Can't Uncompress Downloaded Files

How do you uncompress the files to start the installation process?? I downloaded the 9 files for the Linux 8i EE edition, but the instructions to uncompress the files is not working. HELP!!!!

If you want to put a folder in the Dock, open a Finder window and drag the folder to the right part of the Dock. In this case, you want to put the Downloads folder in the Dock again, so open a Finder window and drag Downloads from the Finder sidebar to the right part of the Dock

Can't open downloaded files

Help! I can't open downloads from the internet or e-mail in preview. It seems to be happening with both pdfs and jpegs. It just started yesterday, and I'm not sure why. It gives me a message stating that the file may be corrupted or the wrong file type. The file type is not wrong, and it says this for files from any source even trusted ones. Any help is much appreciated!!

Assuming you are using Safari... try maintenance.
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari/Reset Safari. Select the top 5 buttons then cick Reset.
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari/Empty Cache.
Quit Safari.
Go to Home/Library/Caches/Safari and delete all the sub-folders within that one.
Go to Home/Library/Safari and delete any of these files you have there:
• Downloads.plist
• History.plist
• LastSession.plist
Restart Safari.

Can't locate downloaded files

I cannot find some files that I have downloaded, some audio and video files (from emusic.com & megaupload.com). I have them set to go straight to my Downloads folder but they are not showing up, even after I see them successfully download in the download list bar. I've searched for the files by name as well. Any ideas?

HI,
I understand you have Safari / Preferences set to go to the Downloads folder. The Downloads folder can be accessed in several different locations. One from the Safari menu bar, Window/Downloads and two, from a Finder window.
Check both places just in case.
Since eMusic is compatible with iTunes, check your iTunes library. And if you are using the free trial, could that have expired?
One other idea. From the Safari menu bar select Window / Downloads or press OptionCommandL. Control or right click the the downloaded file and choose Show In Finder.

Can not open downloaded files

when I download a file that is not a pdf file and try to open it firefox states that the file is not pdf file and tells me that it can not process it. you treat every downloaded file as if it were a pdf file regardless of what type it is.

To Reset Firefox do the following:
#Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
#Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
#Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
#Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.

HT1338 I can't find download files in my Mac. Why?

I use 13 inch MacBook Pro, but I'm not faimliar with Mac OS. Last two days ago, I removed the download folder from the Dock accenditally. After that, I cannot find my downloading files from my mail ever. I'd like to know how can I fix it? Software for my Mac is OS X 10.8.5.

Click the Finder icon -the leftmost- in the Dock at the bottom.
When the Finder window opens, click the Downloads folder to open it.
All downloads should be listed there.
You can rightclick the "Downloads" folder in the sidebar and select "Add to Dock"
to place the folder in the Dock again.

Google Chrome can't open downloaded files

Hello.
I'm having a little problem with Google Chrome. Made package from AUR.
Everything is working fine, but I can't get chrome to open any files it downloads, I have to manually go to the downloaded file and open it.
I'm sure the answer is trivial, I just can't figure it out.
Anyone know?

Hmm... To be on the safe side make sure you have installed perl-file-mimeinfo and xorg-xprop. Also, while logged out of your account, switch to a console screen, log in and delete these two files "~/.local/share/mimeapps.list" and "~/.local/share/applications/mimeapps.list". After this I'd recommend that you delete your browser's configuration "~/.config/google-chrome" (make sure you have a cloud backup to recover all your data later, or at least backup your bookmarks and ssl certificates before doing this ).

Why can't I download file from any websites?

Whenever I try to download files from filesharing sites like mediafire, I click the download button and the page appears to be loading and nothing happens.
After several tries, I found out that while the page is loading, it is actually downloading the file because the time it takes for the page to load before the "open" or "save file" windows come out depends on the size of the file. And immediately after I click "save file" the download is done, and I can open whatever I downloaded. The time ranges between 5min to 30min depending on the file size.
Usually the "save file" window will display immediately when I click on the download button, the the fire fox download window will show the progress of the download and % of completion. But no, for me nothing appears in the download window, and I don't get to see the progress of my download until it is apparently "completed" after the webpage finished loading.
I have tried every solution that I know, cleaning my browser history and cookies, resetting firefox, clearing up my computer's registry, even did a clean reinstall of firefox, wiping everything including my bookmarks, but none of these solves the problem. I am also pretty sure that my firefox extension are not the ones to blame as I did do a test download after a clean reinstall, which did not work as well.

My problem is fixed after I set the firefox connection settings from "use system proxy setting" to "no proxy". After setting to no proxy, the downloads happens as it should.
but my question now is what is system proxy? and what is the difference between using these 2 different options?

When i downloaded files to default(downloads) i can't find the file.i downloaded file in folder it happened.it mostly happening for zip files.when zip files download as 'open with' winrar and other extractors i found it on 'temp' folder.my data balance are losing to me.plz help me

I saved the downloads as all files.then i opened the disc i saved but i can't find that.was this problem solve when i save downloads as 'binary file'.

Can't copy downloaded files to server

Hi,
I am using the new Mac OS X Lion Server, upgraded from the previous version. Now it seems that I cannot copy files I downloaded onto my AFP-shares ... when I open the downloaded file (e.g. text documents), and save it as a new file or save it directly onto the server, it works.
But this procedure will not work for all types of files, for example for .tar.gz files etc. it does not make sense.
I assume this has something to do with a flag attached to the file that it has been downloaded from the internet?
Has anyone got the same problem?

Yes - same issue here. The whole file permissions change SCREAMS of Windows Vista. *** Apple? How could Steve Jobs flick his pen on something so obviously NON-user friendly. I'm axiously awaiting a series of updates to fix what you guys boned.

After latest update i can no longer download files from websites, all i get are php files

tried to download multiple types of files from different sites. all failed. would only give me pfp files. windows explorer downloaded the files fine when i attempted directly after firefox wouldnt

Your iphone is shown at the top of the page.
You can also simply click View>Show Sidebar and it will look about the same as it did before.

I can't open downloaded files because other USER Profile defaults

I inherited a laptop using Vista, which has Firefox vs.27.0.1.
I set up a new user profile for Firefox, using my name.
When I download a file, it shows up in the download section (the arrow at the top right of the address bar)
When I click on it and open it...another Users information appears c:/USERS/ADAM/DESKTOP/DESKTOP
The file tries to open and then disappears.
How to I change my setup so that I can download AND open files without them being blocked by the original user?

Can't unzip downloaded file

I've downloaded a pdf file, and the site required it to be a zip file. I can't open it! Please assist me.

If you're trying to zip a pdf, control-click it and choose to compress or archive it.
If you're trying to unzip a file and the Archive Utility won't open it, try using The Unarchiver.
