Can't uninstall add-ons.

I know this question has been asked numerous times before, but nothing I've found has been able to help me. It also doesn't help that the search results are a bit pathetic in my opinion when you're trying to solve things on your own.
Having said that, I have two issues which I think are related. First, my add-ons won't uninstall. They all install correctly, but they won't uninstall. All of the ones I want to unnistall simply state "This addon will be uninstalled when Firefox is restarted." But, that message never goes away despite me restarting when I originally try to uninstall them. I still have the restart message on the addons dialog box, but when I press it Firefox restarts but the addons are still there with the above message.
The second issue is that Firefox takes FOREVER to open up (a couple minutes at least) and then proceeds to grow enormously on my RAM. I could definitely use some more memory, I'm not going to argue about that, but since the last big update (with plugin container I think, which I disabled) the browser has become a memory behemoth. Much more so than before. I don't even have that many addons, but wonder if the ones still there are affecting performance.
I tried a couple of techniques found in the help section, like deleting the addons manually (their files and folders) through the screen where you get a warning or something about changing Firefox. I'm not too tech-savvy so I don't remember all the exact names of stuff, but that didn't fix the problem.
I don't know if this is pertinent or not, but when I first got Firefox, several versions ago, I downloaded the addon FoxyTunes. I never ended up using it and thought I had uninstalled it but I don't think it ever fully left. It was still listed in my Add/Remove Program list (I had to go the registry to remove it) and occasionally I'll still see it pop up for a faction of a second in the lower right hand corner of the screen if the computer is hanging.
If it's possible I'd rather not have to do a complete uninstall/re-install of Firefox just because of the inconvenience of going through and re-downloading updates, addons, bookmarks, losing the most visited sites from my address bar, etc. When I first started using Firefox, it was extremely fast and reliable and that's what I'm trying to get it back to. At this point, my IE runs better which isn't saying much.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
P.S. I have version 3.6.11, even though it says it's best guess is that I have 3.0.3

  • I am getting this error message, " The URL is not valid and cannot be loaded" when I try to go to Firefox home. I have uninstalled add-ons, uninstaleed and reinstalled a fresh new firefox which did not help

I am getting the following error message, " The URL is not valid and cannot be loaded" when I try to go to firefox home. I uninstalled add-ons , uninstalled Firefox and then installed a fresh version. Still have the problem.
    Thanks for the help

That issue can be caused by a corrupted or incomplete Visual C++ installation (multiple versions can be installed side-by-side; SxS) that is missing some runtime components (Redistributable Packages) that Firefox depends on (problem with an embedded manifest file that specifies a specific runtime version).
You need to install the missing components (e.g. VisualC++ 2005 Redistrbutable).

  • Firefox Sync won't let me uninstall add-ons

Apparently I don't understand how to uninstall add-ons across Firefox sync. I'm on Firefox version 29.0.1 and did not have a Sync account until version 29 came out. I use Sync across 5 computers, 3 at work and 2 at home. I'm trying to uninstall some add-ons on one computer at work (I want them uninstalled across all five computers), but as soon as I restart Firefox and it syncs up, the add-ons re-install. The other four computers are all powered on, but Firefox is not running on any of them at this time. All the information I have read from Mozilla support says Sync will allow me to install, enable, disable, and remove add-ons across all synced browsers, but so far that is not happening. Do I have to disconnect all five browsers, uninstall the add-ons, then re-sync them in order to get rid of them? Or do I have to go into 'options' and de-select 'add-ons' and uninstall the add-ons manually at every computer?

Re-sync is first and best method to get out from add-ons from a particullar device else for 2nd option you can do Manually but its a time taking procedure .

  • Can you buy add ons with an itunes gift card

Can you buy add ons to a game on iphone5s with an itunes gift card ? Thank you

If you mean in-app purchases, yes, in most cases a gift balance will work. Some apps do not accept gift balances, but I've not heard of a game where that is the case.
    Regards.

  • Pages not loading properly and can't install add ons

After installing the Firefox 29 on Windows 7, the mozilla's site and add-ons page do not load properly. Some problem as shown in https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/992362 and tried all the steps but still doesn't work.

I've got exactly the same problem on both v 29 and 30. The thing is, my desktop computer is fine, my BRAND NEW laptop, stripped of ALL it's HP crapware and just using MSE, can display ANY webpage ok EXCEPT anything to do with Mozilla Firefox add-ons, AND the browser can't install any add-ons. I've tried all the usual banal "fixes", including switching off hardware acceleration, but all I get is plain-text for the pages as per sample, and no install of add-ons themselves. Again, note that this is ONLY a problem on the laptop, not on my desktop. They are both plugged into the same router (both through LAN / ethernet), and so therefore they should both work properly. I don't want to hear any stupid suggestions about formatting and re-loading. Just damn-well fix it, please! I've already wasted more than an hour of my very valuable time on this ridiculous problem. And yes, I've even uninstalled Flash 14 just in case (even though Flash 14 is on my desktop and not causing any problems - yet).

  • None of the uninstalling add-ons methods worked, have 7 disabled extensions with no uninstall button

Firefox updated to FF6.0 basically all of my installed add-ons were disabled because they are not compatible with FF6.0. All of the disabled add-ons do not have uninstall buttons. There were no folders in the install/extension folder. Globally, there were no identifiable extension folders, i.e. the names of the folders looked like many of the entries in the windows registry, a mixture of letters, numbers and other symbols. Inside the folders there is no way to identify what program installed the "extension".

Wow.........finally got it figured out.........all I had to do was delete a few corrupt files, and all is well again. Ugh........those video download extensions were *bad news*. Almost 3 am here on the West Coast........I can finally wipe the tear stains off my glasses and go to bed.

  • I'm using the new 4.0.1 and see no way to uninstall add ons. Did something fail to insall on my update? No tools showing anywhere enen to check for updates as in the old 3.5 version. Thanks

No way to uninstall only to restart with add ons disabled. Did something not update from 3.5 ?

Did you see a Firefox icon in the top left corner? If so, click on it and the Menu Bar will appear. If you want to have the Menu Bar shown instead of the icon, you can CHECK the Menu Bar and it'll stay on.
To find the Add-ons list: Tools > Add-ons and the lists of your add-ons and plug-ins are there.

  • How can I delete add-ons - your help advice does not work.

Your advice says click on 'Tools' then 'Add-ons' and it then takes me directly to the add-ons page. There is no option 'Extension or appearance or plug-ins' which I can choose.

In order to uninstall a possibly unwanted extension, please do the following:
#From the Firefox window click the Firefox button at the top left and select ''Add-ons'', or, if the Firefox button is not shown, click the ''Tools'' menu and click ''Add-ons''.
#Once the Add-on Manager has opened in a new tab, click the ''Extensions'' button on the left side of the window.
#You should now see a list of your installed extensions on the right side together with buttons on the right side of each extension.
#To remove an extension from Firefox, simply click the ''Remove'' button. You should see a message that informs you about the successful removal of the add-on.
#Note that some add-ons require a Firefox restart to be removed completely. To perform a Firefox restart after the add-on removal, click the ''Restart now'' link in the message.
You can find further information about uninstalling extensions in the following articles:

  • I want to disable plugins, which i can do through add-ons manager, but every time i restart firefox they are enabled again

When i disable plugins firefox runs faster. I could uninstall the plugins, but i periodically want to use them. I have tried using click to play but i want some plugins to run automatically.
I want to disable selective plugins and have some enabled. When i do this via add-ons manager, all plugins are enable on restarting firefox.

i don't use any cleanup tools & MSE is my security software, which is rather unobtrusive and shouldn't interfere here...
i currently have one blocklisted plugin (see screenshot), but if i remember it correctly the problem was already present in my case before i had the outdated acrobat plugin installed.
sometimes when you enable/disable a plugin in the addons manager & press f5 afterwards, it immediately switches back to its old state/sometimes it will stay on the new state until a restart of the browser & in some cases it will remember the state even across sessions - it's just not working reliably in any way.
as far as i can observe the pluginreg.dat file in my profile folder the change of a plugin's state isn't written to the file as soon as it's toggled in the UI during a session, but only when the browser is getting closed - so the information has to be in the memory somewhere before and might be getting corrupted. i suspect it might be a general bug but i cannot reproduce it reliably .

  • How can I integrate add-ons into a PDF (Use Adobe Acrobat (in Firefox), such as Babylon English Dictionary?

How can I integrate the Fox add-ons into a PDF (Use Adobe Acrobat (in Firefox), such as Babylon English Dictionary? Many PDF do support my add-ons. BTW, the PDF in question is one that I have uploaded to my web site.

Babylon would need to support Adobe Acrobat for that to happen.

  • I can't install add-ons in Firefox 5.0.1 on Mac OS 10.6.7

In Firefox 5.0.1 on Mac OS 10.6.7, I cannot install any add-ons.
My old add-ons that worked in Forefox 4 stopped working and
seem to have disappeared. When tryinf to install an add-on, I get the following message: "There was an error downloading X, try again" (X is the name of the add-on). When adding an add-on from the Mozilla site, I get the message: "Firefox cannot modify the needed file".

My current version of Chrome is having problems, too! It's so annoying. Anyone have any suggestions now? I basically can't view or download any PDFs because of this.
Does anyone else think this is a problem not only with Adobe? I would think Apple would have something to do with this? Wouldn't they get some idea from the developer versions that no browser can open PDFs while running Lion!? Pretty bad customer service on the part of a company that prides itself on being VERY customer-friendly. Wouldn't you say?
