  • How to uninstall Apple Application Support v. 1.2.1 on a PC or force a new installation of QuickTime

After running Apple QuickTime for three or more years on my PC running Windows XP, apparently some part of its code became corrupted.  Trying to install an updated version of QuickTime, all went well until the new installation was not able uninstall the old version of Apple Application Support, v. 1.2.1.
How can I uninstall the old version of Apple Application Support v. 1.2.1, or, how can I force a new installation of QuickTime without first uninstalling Apple Application Support?
    Thanks for your help.
    Jim

Jim, C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Apple\Installer Cache is where Apple Application Support is located should you want to delete it, the version you mention is old.
You may be able to first force a new update by going to. C:\ Program Files\Apple Software Update and double clicking on SoftwareUpdate exe
If that doesn't work for you than you would have to remove the old QuickTime msi file. Which is a microsoft installer file. Located in C:\WINDOWS\Installer
If you have any difficulty locating and removing the msi file this link to Windows Installer CleanUp Utillty should help. If not post back.

  • Can't install iTunes 10.5, can't uninstall Apple App Support

I have Windows7 64bit. I have read different threads about how to possibly remove iTunes completely. I have also tried to Install, Repair, & Uninstall all Apple related programs. Everything will uninstall except for the Apple Application Support. Everytime I try to install iTunes I get this error,
    Could not open key:
    UNKNOWN\Components\DA42BC89BF25F5BD0AF18C3B9B1A1EE8\00D5753BFE722C949B0E413B9D45 9E39.
Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel.
    What should I do?

I was helped by an awesome IT friend of mine, here is what he had me do for my problem. I hope this helps someone.
First I toally uninstalled iTunes, Quicktime, Apple Software updater, ____-anything with Apple in the name.
I opened regedit using "run as administrator".
I then went to the registry key:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\UserData\ S-1-5-18\Components\DA42BC89BF25F5BD0AF18C3B9B1A1EE8\108B43C0CEA676640B35306AE7D 24051
    ...and selected the folder DA42BC89BF25F5BD0AF18C3B9B1A1EE8
    Right click & choose permissions
click advanced, and then the owner tab
type "administrators" in current owners field and check th box to replace the owner on subcontainer and volumes
(Note: I did this because I had another key with permission issues after I fixed the original onelisted above)
Apply settings and then click permissions tab. Once again, add "administrators" to the list of permission entries, then click edit and check all permission boxes. Also click the 2 bottom boxes concerning the inheritable permissions.
    Click OK
Now back on the main permissions tab, choose administrators in the group or user name window and then check full control and read checkboxes. Click OK.
Back in the main regedit window, you should now see keys in the right pane for each subfolder in:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\UserData\ S-1-5-18\Components\DA42BC89BF25F5BD0AF18C3B9B1A1EE8
On the menu bar click file > exit

  • I can't get ITunes to install. I get the message: Error 2 Windows. Not able to find Apple Application Support. Uninstall iTunes and reinstall.  I did that and still get the same message.  Thanks for your assistance.  I'm using a Dell Computer, Windows 8

Can't get iTunes to install. When I download it, and go through installation, I get the message, Error 2, windows 2; can't find Apple Application Support, uninstall and reinstall iTunes.  When I do that I get the same message again. Thank you for your assistance.

Let's try a standalone Apple Application Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of the issue.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
    http://www.rarlab.com/
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleApplicationSupport.msi to do a standalone AAS install.
Does it install properly for you?
If instead you get an error message during the install, let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)

  • ITunes wont load Apple Application Support was not found

I have been having a lot of trouble downloading itunes. I had it on my laptop and then the laptop crashed. I tried to re-install,and it goes smooth then at the end. I get a window message that has a red and white X that says:
Apple Application Support was not found
Apple Application Support is required to run iTunesHelper. please unistall iTunes, then install iTunes again.
    Error 2
    ok
    Can anyone help me PLEASE?
    Thanks

With that one, let's try uninstalling both iTunes and Apple Application Suppport. When we reinstall iTunes, that should reinstall Apple Application Support as well. We'll take a few additional explicit precautions along the way too. Best to print these instructions out, because at one stage of proceedings you won't be able to use a web browser.
    Preliminaries
Download and save a fresh iTunes installer to your hard drive. (Don't run the install on line and don't start the iTunes install just yet.)
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Now, quit QuickTime (if you have that open) and Safari 4.0.4 (if you have that installed and open). Both applications use Apple Application Support, and they will interfere with the uninstall if you have them open.
    *Uninstall phase*
Head into your "Add or Remove Programs" control panel. Uninstall iTunes. Uninstall Apple Application Support (if it is listed in there).
(From this point on until we reinstall Apple Application Support, neither QuickTime nor Safari 4.0.4 will be able to run.)
Next we'll remove any leftover program files and folders.
    (1) Open "Local Disk (C:)" or whichever drive your program files are stored on.
    (2) Open the "Program Files" folder.
    (3) Right-click on the iTunes folder (if it still exists) and select "Delete".
    (4) Open the "Common files" folder.
    (5) Open the "Apple" folder.
    (6) Right-click on the Apple Application Support folder (if it still exists) and select "Delete".
Now empty your Recycle Bin and restart the PC.
    *Reinstall Phase*
After the PC restarts, do not open any other applications. Disconnect from your network and/or the internet. Switch off all your security software (firewall, antivirus and antispyware).
Now start the install by doubleclicking the iTunesSetup.exe file you downloaded earlier.
Reenable all security software prior to reconnecting to your network and/or the internet.
Did the install seem to go through okay? If so, does iTunes start launching properly again?

  • Updating Apple Application Support?

I installed iTunes 10 today - I had to uninstall my previous version as the installer program wouldn't download the new version properly, then reinstall using the download from the Apple website.
But now when I try to launch iTunes, I am faced with an error message saying:
"Apple Application Support version 1.2.1 is installed; iTunes requires Apple Application Support version 1.3.2 or later. Please uninstall iTunes, then install iTunes again."
I have uninstalled and reinstalled, but this still does not make the message go away. How can I update Applcation Support or download the newer version of it?

Attempting to uninstall the existing version of Apple Application Support (1.2.1 in your case) can sometimes give us a heads up on the nature of the problem with the new version installing.
Head into your Uninstall a program control panel and attempt to uninstall Apple Application Support. Do you get an error message? If so, what does it say? (Precise text, please)

I have instlled and uninstalled iTunes on multiple occasions but iTunes fails to start with message "Apple Application support is required to run iTunes .......... Error 2 (Windows error 2)".  Most most frustrating.  Can anyone help, pleeeeeeease!!

iTunes "Apple Application Support is required... Error 2" and possible fix.
    Hi Redgilly (and others).
I just resolved this on Win Vista (should apply equally for Win7 too). Please uninstall iTunes before proceeding though. I'll walk you through the process I followed, if you like you can jump straight to the Solution section.
    Problems:
The initial error during the installation of iTunes was:
An error occurred during the installation of assembly 'Microsoft.VC80.CRT,version="8.0.50727.4053",type="win32",publicKeyToken='1fc8b 3b9a1e18e3b",processorarchitecture="x86". Please refer to Help and Support for more information. HRESULT:0x8007054F
The error (after installing iTunes) when trying to run iTunes was:
Apple Application Support is required to run iTunes. Please uninstall iTunes, then install iTunes again. Error 2 (Windows error 2).
After trying various fixes around the forums I came across this MSKB article, which relates to the first installation error:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2688946
This lead me to trying to install MS Visual C++ but I received the following error trying to install that:
    Error 1935.An error occurred during the installation of assembly ‘Microsoft.VC80.ATL,type=”win32”,version=”8.0.50727.762”,publicKeyToken=”1fc8b3 b9a1e18e3b”,processorArchitecture=”amd64”’. Please refer to Help and Support for more information. HRESULT: 0x80070BC9. Assembly interface: IassemblyCacheItem, function: Commit, component: {837BF1EB-D770-94EB-A01F-C8B3B9A1E18E}
Note: The installation of VC++ rolls back when it fails.
    Solution:
Through this error I found this MSKB article:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/946414
The Automated MS "Fix It" msi package didn’t work.
Note: Please backup your registry first (see the above MSKB article for instructions).
I opened the registry and (as instructed in the MSKB article) deleted the following keys:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\COMPONENTS\
    PendingXmlIdentifier
    NextQueueEntryIndex
    AdvancedInstallersNeedResolving
    Reboot and reinstall iTunes.
    I hope this helps.
