Can't Uninstall/Install Quicktime error number: 0x80040707

I am also having probelms with quicktime. I went to uninstall/reinstall it and have had no luck. When I run the uninstall shield, it starts and then before it goes farther than half way loaded it disappears.
I tried everything listed in the post below mine with no luck but I noticed that I have a different error code.
Also, I tried to install the standalone 7.0.4, it installs and then before it completes, when I click finish is comes up with this error:
Error Number: 0x80040707
DLL Function Call Crashed: QT Install code.Quicktimepostinstallproc
Setup will now terminate
I can't do anything with quicktime: run updates or use the plugins: nothing comes up or it restarts my firefox. What do I do? Really appreciate any help, I'm useless technologically. Thanks

  • Can't Uninstall/Install Quicktime...

Basically, I want to uninstall my old version of quicktime. I basically corrupted it (I believe) because it won't open. When I remove the app from my mac, it's no longer there. However, whenever I'm trying to re-install using the official Quicktime 7.6.4 on apple.com - it won't let me. It gives me an error message saying:
"Quicktime can't be installed on this disc. This version of Quicktime 7 can't be installed on the disc because Quicktime X is already present. Please us Software update to install the appropriate version of QuickTime for your mac".
The problem is, when I go to my software update..it doesn't detect that it needs to be updated. So..how am I supposed to fix it? And when I try to open movie files, Quick time isn't even detected as an option (even if I browse). As far as my knowledge..Quicktime is NO LONGER on my mac..yet it insists that it is. I just want to start fresh, I want to be able to re-install it. But it won't let me.
Anyone have any advice for this maddening problem? And just a little more info - (the way i corrupted the file in the first place) - I was trying to install Quicktime Pro 7 and it kept claiming my mac had the newest version. So I removed quicktime completely, and it kept telling me that quicktime (newer version was on my mac, even tho I removed it, even from the Library section) - then I used the Leopard boot up, and used the optional install..and now the file showed back up, but it doesn't have the quicktime logo, (has the application logo) - and it's non responsive. So I deleted that too...but as I said, when I try to install it again from Apple.com..it's a no go.

  • Error Number: 0x80040707 while uninstalling quicktime

I'm trying to uninstall quicktime so that i can do something about my itunes which isn't working properly (love how everything is connected huh?) Newayz i get that error and says that
"DLL function call crashed: QTInstallCode.Quicktime...."(it goes off the edge of the screen)
    little help please. Thanks

+I have iTunes loaded on my administrator account. I want to load iTunes on my sons account so he can use his new iPod. I made his account an administrator account so we could load iTunes and have his iPod recognized on this computer. Installation stops with "Error number:0x80040707 while loading iTunes" displayed. When I click OK the next window says "Access Denied" and we're done.+
Gosh, but it's been a long time since I've seen that error message code in this context ... (You've presumably got an iTunes version 6.0.5.20 or lower installed in your User account?) But it was certainly possible to get one flavor of the 0x80040707 (there were a bunch of different varieties, distinguished by the details of the error message text) if you had an older version of iTunes installed in one user account, and then tried to install a higher version in a different user account.
Porcupine is correct here. You don't have to install iTunes in a different user account to use it there, so long as it is already installed in a different one. There's details here:
How to use multiple iPods with one computer
If you have to upgrade iTunes to use the new ipod, I'd first try doing the upgrade from inside your account rather than his. Does that get you past the 0x80040707?

  • Internal Failure - Error Number 0x80040707

    Hi
I recntly was playing on my computer and when i tried to move songs to my ipod i got an error saying that the ipod could not be updated. i backed up all of my music and ininstalled itunes. i tried to reistall itunes and when the installation bar comes up i get an error message Internal Failure
    Error Number:0x80040707
    Description:
Can someone help. i can't use itunes now and my ipod is empty.

Hi there! Thats a common error message. Try this and see if it works:
    1. Run the setup program and PAY ATTENTION to the folder where you are installing the software. Keep clicking on the "Next" button and here it is, the progress bar.
    2. When the progress bar reaches 100% and you get the 0x80040707 error message, DO NOT click "Accept" or "Ok" or whatever says the button in the error window. Instead proceed as I describe:
    3. Go to the the folder where the program is supposed to be installed. Yes, it's there!. Copy this folder to another location (for example, to the desktop).
    4. Now click "Accept" or "Ok" in the 0x80040707 error window. This will erase almost every file in the folder where the program was originally installed. Who cares? You have a copy of it.
    5. Now overwrite this almost-empty original installation folder with the one you backuped.
    6. If you want you can even create manually a shortcut of the EXE file that launches the software wherever you like. Double click it. Does it work?

  • I can't uninstall/install FireFox due to a pop-up that says: Your computer must be restarted to complete a previous upgrade of Firefox..."

This problem arose when I attempted to upgrade my existing FireFox browser to the new FireFox 7. I clicked through the auto-update, but didn't think that anything changed, as the browser didn't look like the image in the feature explanation image I was viewing. I then tried to download Firefox 7, and when I tried to instal it, this process began.
I can't uninstall/install FireFox due to a pop-up that says: Your computer must be restarted to complete a previous upgrade of Firefox..." When restarted and attempted again, the same pop up appears and I am stuck in an infinite loop.
I cannot locate the Mozilla file within my program files to try and delete cantankerous upgrade components, which seems to resolve this issue for many people. See: https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/796566
I also tried completely deleting Firefox, which didn't work either-- I ended up doing a system restore, only to be met with the same infinite loop.
Now, when I click on the Mozilla icon, nothing happens. No window opens, no error message, nothing.
Why can't I find the Mozilla folder in my Programs File but can see it in Control Panel "Add or Remove Programs" (though I can't uninstal due to infinite loop)?

It is probably because you are not properly closing Firefox. Restarting your system would make sure that Firefox had terminated, but you do not have to do that.
To properly close Firefox on Windows systems, use
:File > Exit or "Firefox:" button > Exit
When you get the message "Firefox is already running" it is too late, and you must force termination of Firefox through the Windows Task Manager before restarting Firefox. Windows 7 has a keyboard shortcut to save you a step "Ctrl+Shift+Esc" then on "Processes" tab, select "firefox.exe" and use the "End Process" button. More thorough would be to right-click on the "firefox.exec" and choose "End Process Tree".
You would find firefox.exe in a Mozilla folder in your program files, but y0u would not want to delete it there, you would need to use the Control Panel which you have already identified and do it from there -- but generally you would not need to do that, and there is nothing in what you have posted to indicate that you should. But if you did do that, then don't let the install start Firefox for you as you would want to use you existing desktop icon or method of starting Firefox, and should decline having Firefox install start Firefox for you. When the install starts then invoke Firefox in your normal manner. This should eliminate problems of creating a new profile rather than using your old profile.

  • I can't install itunes 11.0.4.4 and so I can't sync with IOS7 can't uninstall old Itunes error message saying some files are missing.  What to do?

I am trying to install the latest version of Itunes so I can Sync with IOS7 but I keep getting an error message saying it can't dis-install the old version Missing itunes64 files.
I tried to just un-install the old version but my computer tell me it can't because some files are missing.  I don't know how to find them or how to fixx my problem.  Can anyone help?
    Thanks

I keep getting an error message saying it can't dis-install the old version Missing itunes64 files.
    (1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
    (2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
    (3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
    (4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
    (5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

Are you certain about that? There are many alternatives to Office today. Consider
    LibreOffice (donation-supported)
NeoOffice ($10 but older version is free)
    OpenOffice (completely free)
In addition to the above I also recommend Apple's Pages ($19.99). All of these options allow you to open, edit, and save Word-formatted documents and spreadsheets. I use OpenOffice and Pages and have been completely Microsoft - free for over a year now. Life is better without Microsoft.

  • Can't Un/Install QuickTime due to "QuickTime.msi" being "unavailable"

I'm trying to install iTunes version 9, but at the end of the installation it returns an error saying that it can't install quicktime because it cannot uninstall the older version.
I have traced this error back to the fact that the unintsall wizard cannot find the QuickTime.msi file, saying that it is an "unavailable network resource".
I have also found the file itself in Windows Explorer, and after clicking that it still says it is unavailable.
I can't do Anything with QuickTime at all! Has anyone got any advice?? (v7.64.17.80)

Unfortunately, these sorts of msi-related troubles have gotten more complicated to deal with ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center on June 25. First we need to hunt down a copy of the utility.
Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for *at least version 3.0* of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)
If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any QuickTime entries and click "Remove".
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try installing iTunes 9.2 again. Does the install go through properly this time?
(If you do find a clean download site for the correct version of CleanUp, please don't tell me where it is. Without wishing to sound paranoid (although I grant it does sound paranoid), there is a non-zero chance that posting links to download locations for the utility here at Discussions leads to that download location being shut down.)

  • Can't Open iTunes-Quicktime error

When I last tried updating my iTunes I had to cut the installation short and ever since I haven't been able to start iTunes. It tells me that Quicktime was not found and to reinstall iTunes. I've tried reinstalling iTunes many times but it doesn't work. My computer says I have Quicktime so I don't know what to do. Please Help!!

I experienced this same problem and struggled with it for two weeks. I had uninstalled and reinstalled many times. I had even installed Quicktime and Itunes as standalone products but still could not get past that error message or the "find Quicktime.msi" message. What finally fixed it was uninstalling (again) both Quicktime AND Itunes. I recommend backing up your music files just in case. Info on how can be found on the Apple website. Then go to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301 and read about and install Windows Installer Cleanup. After installing it, run it and select any Quicktime, Apple and Itunes products only. You should include the MobileMe and Safari programs, as well as anything that is related to Itunes. If you are unsure, verify them first before selecting them. Once you know, select the programs from the ones Windows Installer Cleanup lists one at a time or hold down the Ctrl button and select multiple programs. Just be sure you are not selecting a program not related to Apple, Quicktime or Itunes. Once that is done, restart your computer and download Quicktime as a stand alone product (not with Itunes). Then download Itunes as a stand-alone product (not with Quicktime). I did not select Itunes as the default player, but I don't think it will make a difference. It FINALLY solved my problem. Apparently I had bits of the programs still on my computer after removing them, and it was messing up the new installations. Good Luck!

  • Can't uninstall Itunes / QuickTime

    Hi there,
I upgraded QickTime to v7 and used Mozilla Firefox to find the latest update. It pointed me to a combined QuickTime / Itunes and as I couldn't find a standalone Quicktime Product (have now found), I downloaded and installed. QT didn't run the media as intended so I decided to uninstall and reinstall the standalone product. I can't uninstall either product from the "change / remove programs" as they are not listed. I tried Windows Install Clean Up but no luck there either. The QuickTime uninstaller does not work and Itunes does not show an uninstaller. How do I complete a clean uninstall of Itunes and QuickTime without using "change / remove programs".
    Thanks
    Howard

Since the uninstall of IT, I am unable to run QT and all Icons have gone from the desktop and the Start menu (menu just has generic Win icons). Uninstall still doesn't work but no nanosecond error? message.
    good
    b gracious,
Howard ... so the icons from the desktop have
    b completely
gone? they haven't just been replaced by generic icons?
there's something going on here that i'm missing ... if anyone else here has experienced anything similar, please feel free to make some contributions.
okay, if the QT isn't showing up in Add/Remove, and Windows Cleanup isn't showing it, and it isn't launching, let's try proceeding with the manual uninstall. (if it does show up in Windows Cleanup now, let's run Cleanup first.)
if it doesn't let you delete anything, let's try to see if there's a rogue QT process still running somewhere and shut that down too. try adapting Katrina's technique to your situation:
    Katrina S., "itunes won't open on windows" #21, 01:15pm Sep 3, 2005 CDT
with the QT 7 standalone reinstall:
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/standalone.html
... it's best to download and save to the hard drive rather than running the installation on line. given that really odd things have been happening whenever we try to do something, it would be a good idea to shut down all applications running in the background first. there's information on that given here:
    http://consumer.installshield.com/kb.asp?id=Q108377
    keep us posted.

  • Can't uninstall to fix error..

Ok, so earlier today I closed Itunes and went out. I come back and I get a runtime error, I've got it before and just reinstalled Itunes. Only this time I get an error while uninstalling, or even trying to reinstall.
    The error says:

Click OK to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package 'Itunes.msi' in the box below.
Now, I go to browse and look for this everywhere, desktop where I downloaded the install file to, my itunes folder in My Programs and yet, nothing.
Could somebody please please help me with this, I've just ordered a new Ipod, I would hate for it to not even work. Any help will be appreciated.

  • Can't new iTunes/Quicktime - Error Message

    Hi,
I've done this in a separate post b/c I didn't see anyone else with this error message. ITunes starts to download normally, but then I get this message:
"Errors encountered while performing the operation. Look at the information window for more details."
Where is the information window? There is nothing on my screen that tells me what the error is, like an error number that other people seem to have... I've tried downloading on a few separate occasions and I keep getting this message.
Thanks in advance if you can help or have suggestions.

    hi AndreaB!
"Errors encountered while performing the operation. Look at the information window for more details."
... i can't recall having seen this particular error message before, either ... but my memory is fallible ...
just checking to see if i'm clear on your situation ... you're getting this on an itunes installation? if so, are you running the install online, or are you downloading and saving the file to your hard-drive, and then running the installation from there?
if the latter, is the error showing up during the download or the install?
    love, b
