Can't uninstall iTunes or get iTunes download to install

For some reason iTunes became inaccessible on my PC (been using it 2.5 yrs), so I tried to download again and install. Message displayed about iTunes.msi file missing. Tried to uninstall, but couldn't. Read this board about others having this problem. As suggested, went to MS support and got the Windows Install Cleanup Utility. Ran it to remove two Apple programs on its list, iTunes and mobile. Rebooted and ran iTunes install again. No luck. Get message "The feature you are trying to use is on a network source that is not available." This dialog box also displays two choices under "Use Source:", neither of which I have under Documents and Settings. When I exit out of this, message displays,"Older version of iTunes cannot be removed." I'm at a brick wall. Please help.

Yes, I got the MS Windows Clean Up Utility, and everytime I run it to remove Apple apps and Quicktime app then quit, reboot, and open Clean Up again, the apps I removed at back again. I've removed them three times. Is there any other way to get out of that utility after removing items rather than QUIT?
Someone on this board replied that I should unpack the downloaded install file and extract the .msi file, putting it in several places where the installation procedure looks for it. So I unpacked it with Winzip, and sure 'nuff there was the itunes.msi. I extracted it to the Documents and Setting folder where it said it didn't find it. Rebooted, then downloaded new install and ran it. SAME THING happens! It appears this message is not instigated by my PC but by a faulty install procedure.
I'm getting lots of odd suggestions on this board, and where practical I'm trying every one.

    many thanks.
I'd start with the following document, with one modification. At step 12 after typing GEARAspiWDM press the Enter/Return key once prior to clicking OK. (Pressing Return adds a carriage return in the field and is important.)

    (1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
    (2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
    (3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
    (4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any Apple Mobile Device Support entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
    (5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

I try to download the newest version of iTunes, but get the following message: "Install iTunes.pkg". This package type requires Mac OS X 10.5." What do I do now?
I have Mac OS X 10.4.11, and don't know how to upgrade to 10.5.

Here are ways to update to Lion (Mac OS X 10.7):
    http://www.apple.com/macosx/how-to-buy/
It requires you to have Snow Leopard (Mac OS X 10.6) installed, which can be obtained from the Apple Store.
You being on Mac OS X 10.4 makes it an old system, 10.6 and 10.7 require an Intel processor at least with Lion demanding an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor.
    What system do you have?

Please help...need to get newest update so I can activate my new IPhone4. Thanks

That suggests that the installer is getting damaged during the download.
I'd first try downloading an installer from the Apple website using a different web browser:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
If you use Firefox instead of IE for the download (or vice versa), do you get a working installer?

If in the message window it says that "...MSVCR80.dll was not found", go to this guys webpage: http://pcsupport.about.com/od/findbyerrormessage/a/msvcr80-dll-not-found-missing -error.htm.  I followed his instructions exactly and problem solved.

    Hi Medulla.90,
Please right click on setup file and run the program as administrator. If still the same error try to enable hidden admin and install from there: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/enable-the-hidden-adminis trator-account-on-windows-vista/ .

  • Can't uninstall old verison of Itunes to get newest verison

I can not seem to get the newest verison of Itunes, it is saying that I am missing something but I can't find whats missing and I really need itunes. Can anybody help with this??

What operating system do you have? What antivirus/filtering programs do you have?
    1. You need to uninstall all apple products.
    2. You need to disable firewall/antivirus until after install.
    3. You need to uninstall any filtering programs you have.
    4. You need to download and install itunes from apple.
Depending on your operating system, there may be a few other tweaks you have to make, but the above 4 steps is 95% likely to fix the problem.
