Arthur, use this program:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=290301
to install Quicktime and then try and reinstall, WINDOWS, not apple can be buggy with uninstalls sometimes, but this program should cleanly remove it. It worked for me, some friends of mine, and a person in the Discussions area. Good Luck!

  • Can't uninstall Itunes / QuickTime

    Hi there,
I upgraded QickTime to v7 and used Mozilla Firefox to find the latest update. It pointed me to a combined QuickTime / Itunes and as I couldn't find a standalone Quicktime Product (have now found), I downloaded and installed. QT didn't run the media as intended so I decided to uninstall and reinstall the standalone product. I can't uninstall either product from the "change / remove programs" as they are not listed. I tried Windows Install Clean Up but no luck there either. The QuickTime uninstaller does not work and Itunes does not show an uninstaller. How do I complete a clean uninstall of Itunes and QuickTime without using "change / remove programs".
    Thanks
    Howard

Since the uninstall of IT, I am unable to run QT and all Icons have gone from the desktop and the Start menu (menu just has generic Win icons). Uninstall still doesn't work but no nanosecond error? message.

okay, if the QT isn't showing up in Add/Remove, and Windows Cleanup isn't showing it, and it isn't launching, let's try proceeding with the manual uninstall. (if it does show up in Windows Cleanup now, let's run Cleanup first.)
if it doesn't let you delete anything, let's try to see if there's a rogue QT process still running somewhere and shut that down too. try adapting Katrina's technique to your situation:

with the QT 7 standalone reinstall:
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/standalone.html
... it's best to download and save to the hard drive rather than running the installation on line. given that really odd things have been happening whenever we try to do something, it would be a good idea to shut down all applications running in the background first. there's information on that given here:

  • Can't uninstall existing quicktime

I was downloading the iTunes update and it crashed half way through the install and now I can't delete quicktime as it says it's no longer on my computer. However, I can't install quicktime or iTunes now because it says files are missing and that the older version of quicktime cannot be removed. What can I do? I've tried everything, removing the programs, doing a system restore, reinstalling programs and even separate quicktime reinstalls. nothing is working.

You're not alone!! I (stupidly as it turned out)took up the offer of the Update. Result? - no iTunes, no iPod, etc.
I've tried installing the Standalone Quicktime, but it still says some of the files are missing.
You're right. Nothing works. System Restore doesn't sort it either. Where is Apple in all this? There must be millions of us out here. And why can't we totally uninstall?

  • Can't Uninstall/Install Quicktime...

Basically, I want to uninstall my old version of quicktime. I basically corrupted it (I believe) because it won't open. When I remove the app from my mac, it's no longer there. However, whenever I'm trying to re-install using the official Quicktime 7.6.4 on apple.com - it won't let me. It gives me an error message saying:
"Quicktime can't be installed on this disc. This version of Quicktime 7 can't be installed on the disc because Quicktime X is already present. Please us Software update to install the appropriate version of QuickTime for your mac".
The problem is, when I go to my software update..it doesn't detect that it needs to be updated. So..how am I supposed to fix it? And when I try to open movie files, Quick time isn't even detected as an option (even if I browse). As far as my knowledge..Quicktime is NO LONGER on my mac..yet it insists that it is. I just want to start fresh, I want to be able to re-install it. But it won't let me.
Anyone have any advice for this maddening problem? And just a little more info - (the way i corrupted the file in the first place) - I was trying to install Quicktime Pro 7 and it kept claiming my mac had the newest version. So I removed quicktime completely, and it kept telling me that quicktime (newer version was on my mac, even tho I removed it, even from the Library section) - then I used the Leopard boot up, and used the optional install..and now the file showed back up, but it doesn't have the quicktime logo, (has the application logo) - and it's non responsive. So I deleted that too...but as I said, when I try to install it again from Apple.com..it's a no go.

  • Can't Uninstall/Install Quicktime error number: 0x80040707

I am also having probelms with quicktime. I went to uninstall/reinstall it and have had no luck. When I run the uninstall shield, it starts and then before it goes farther than half way loaded it disappears.
I tried everything listed in the post below mine with no luck but I noticed that I have a different error code.
Also, I tried to install the standalone 7.0.4, it installs and then before it completes, when I click finish is comes up with this error:
    Error Number: 0x80040707
DLL Function Call Crashed: QT Install code.Quicktimepostinstallproc
    Setup will now terminate
I can't do anything with quicktime: run updates or use the plugins: nothing comes up or it restarts my firefox. What do I do? Really appreciate any help, I'm useless technologically. Thanks

  • Can't uninstall older version, can't install newer version

I bought The Wiz off iTunes, and it stopped about nidway through it and told me there was an error. So I contacted a tec dude, and he told me to download a newer version of Quicktime. So I tried, and it told me that a newer version as installed and the installation process could not be finished. So then I tried to uninstall the version of Quicktime I had, and it said the same thing, that I could not get it uninstalled until the newer version of Quicktime was uninstalled. I know my way around my computer very well, and there is only one version of Quicktime installed on it, which is 7.5.5. I tried downloading a newer version, 7.6.2, but it still gave me the same message.
Until this is fixed I can't download anything off iTunes and it's driving me crazy. Any ideas?

  • Can't uninstall / delete quicktime

I've been trying to delete quicktime to re-install it and itunes as itunes stopped working ( I couldn't open it at all). a reinstall didn't work, coming up with error code 2330, and when trying to uninstall quicktime it said could not delete zh_CN.lproj. I've tried both uninstalling and manually deleting, and have deleted all except this folder. when I try to open it, it says C drive requires formating (which I can't do without losing all the content). Help! I'd be really grateful if someone more computer literate than me has any ideas. Katie

This error message usually indiactes a corrupt file, try running chkdsk.
You can do this from My computer.
Right click on your C: drive, select properties>>tools>>Error checking.
It starts after a reboot, and takes a while so do it when you don't need access to your PC.
Once you have done that, try a cleanup and reinstall as follows:
Download a fresh copy of iTunes and the stand alone version of Quicktime
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/win.html
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install Microsoft Installer cleanup utility, there are instructions on the page as well as the download. Note that what you download is the installer not the program – you have to run it to install the program
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301/
Now use the following method to remove iTunes and its components:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93698
If you hit a problem with one of the uninstalls don't worry, carry on with the deleting of files and folders as directed in the method.
    Restart your PC.
Run the Microsoft Installer Cleanup Utility. (Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up)
Remove any references you find to the programs you removed - strictly speaking you only need to worry about those programs where the uninstall failed.
    restart your PC
Install the stand alone Quicktime and check that it works.
    If it does, install iTunes.

  • Can I uninstall older versions of CS?

I have a ton of adobe software taking up disc space. I have upgraded from CS to CS2 to CS3. I would like to uninstall CS & CS2.
I have absolutely no reason to keep the older versions, I haven't used them in years.
is it safe to uninstall? I'm worried because in the add/remove software panel, version 1 is 5,024mb and it says it's used "frequently" (even though I don't use it). for version 3 (the version I use currently), the size is only 144mb. do you think it has a cascading effect-- since each version was an upgrade from the last, maybe all versions must be intact in order to function properly? I can't find a clear enough answer on adobe's forums. is it safe to to remove CS1 and CS2?
    thanks!

    Hi
After 2 hours of browsing through the forum, finally I have the issue I was looking for.
I wish Adobe would categorize entries - an awful lot of users seem to know only one entry title.
I have upgraded from CS3 to CS4 recently - and all my CS3 apps are alive and kicking and taking up space.
BTW I thank seattle333 for being such a careful observer.
On my control panel, CS3 is given with 209MB of disk space and used occasionally.
CS4 has no indication of disk space (?) and is used occasionally. The last use date is today, however, which is correct.
    I find this worrying.
You don't recommend removing the previous version. Does that mean that we are supposed to clutter up disk space with unused full versions, always at risk that there is some interference to bring the whole thing down? Having spent several hours to get the pdf printer to work with Office files (not to mention install problems on Mac - I have a double license), I hope you can appreciate my preoccupations.
I use XP pro 64bits and Office Pro 2003
    Thanks and regards -svhk-

  • Can't uninstall old quicktime!!!!!!!!!

HI can anyone help? as i cant uninstall the old qt! ive tried to do the manual way but it just wont do it..???
    dell inspiron 6000   Windows Vista

Can someone please help me with uninstalling Quick Time. An error message keeps popping up and will not allow me to uninstall. I was following the directions but when I went to Add/Remove Programs, that's where the error warning appeared. It also wouldn't allow me to delete the Quick Time program file on my Local Disk C.
I have other programs like Microsoft Media and a few others, could these be a problem? This all started when I downloaded an update for iTunes. Two days later everything quit. Can't buy, can't play, library gone and Quick Time will not go away!

    Did you remove Quicktime X?
On a normal install Quicktime 7 is installed in the Utilities folder and Quicktime Pro in the main Applications folder.
You will need to reinstall OS X to get Quicktime X back if you have deleted it.
I notice yor profile says 10.5.8. Quicktime X is only available on 10.6 and above.

  • I have two versions of Lightroom installed on my computer, can I uninstall the older version?

While looking at the "Programs and Features" folder on my Windows 7 computer I discovered that I have two versions of Adobe Lightroom installed on my system. One is Lightroom 5.2, installed on 9/19/2013, and the other is Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 5.5 64-bit, installed on 7/5/2014
      - Can I uninstall the older version?
      - Will uninstalling the older version cause any problems with the newer version?
      - If yes to either question, is there anything I need to do before doing the uninstall (i.e. deactivating, etc.)
Any advice on how to correct this problem is gratefully appreciated.
PS; I have the same issue with Muse CC. See: I have two versions of Muse CC installed on my computer, can I uninstall the older version?

    Jim,
I thought it was odd that I had two versions of Lightroom installed as well. I have been able to track the issue back to an apparent "bug" in the Lightroom 5.2 update that installed a second version of Lightroom in addition to updating the existing version on my computers. At the time, I posted about it at Lightroom 5 installed twice on my laptop. While I never got an answer to my question, which was "Is this normal?" I did hear from others in the forum the experienced the same problem and had the same question. As time passed, later releases updated one of the two installations, but did not effect the second. Hence, two different versions of Lightroom 5 installed on the same computer.
Uninstalling the older version solved the problem. Thanks
