Can't uninstall Quicktime !! Can't use my IPOD!!! HELP!

Hi, I have an iPod Nano and can't even start using it because I can't install itunes. The problem is I have an 'old' version of Quicktime (v7.0.4) and for some reason it won't uninstall. I've never had any problems with Quicktime before and the program runs great on my system (Windows XP SP2). If I try installing Itunes--can't uninstall, if I try installing the new QT--can't uninstall AND says it can't find Quick Time.msi and want's me to point it to where it is. I searched my hard drive and Windows was unable to find this .msi file. How can I install itunes?????
HELP!!!

Try using Microsoft's Windows Installer Cleanup Utility to remove the old version of Quicktime and iTunes.

  • I can't use my ipod help i have not a clue

i got my kids a ipod nano for x-mas. and we can't figure out how to download or listen to the music. i need to know step by step i have windows xp on my comp. if you have any info please contact me thanks and remember step by step. ( we need ipod for dummies )

If you both still need help email me please at <Message was edited by: Host - for your protection do not post your email in your text> so I can try to help:) I'll post what I can here...
-Turn your iPod on, and you can scroll through the main menu (this is right after you select your language) and find "settings". That's where you can adjust the volume limit, the clicker noises, etc.
-You recieved a connector cable with your iPod in it's case. The wider end connects into the bottom of the iPod (right next to where the earphones plug in). The other connects into the computer tower. (There's a symbol on the end of the cable that should match up to one on your computer. Mine's right under my mouse plug in...)
-Come back to this website, click on iPod + iTunes. You'll have to go through the process of downloading iTunes (it's step-by-step there, too). It may take a while (mine took around an hour and a half).
-iTunes should pop up on your desktop, and click into it. it should have, from top to bottom: Library: music, movies, tv shows, podcasts, radios. Store: (you may not have this on there yet unless you've already signed into the store part of it); ___'s Ipod, and it show a list of playlists after that, like On-the-go1 or Most played. [[You can delete these by right clicking or selecting them and going up to edit.)
-Now you can put songs onto your iPod:
Download them from the iTunes store or by CD.It should pop up in your general MUSIC area first (under Library), or under RECENTLY ADDED (under Playlists).
-Make a playlist by clicking on file and scrolling down. You can name it whatever you want. To add songs to a playlist click and drag them. To put a playlist to your iPod, click and drag.
-Update your iPod by going and clicking on __'s ipod. It will have a button on the summary page saying "Update." Click it, and it should transfer all the songs and playlists you've made onto your iPod. [[The bar across the bottom shows you how much space you have used up, and how much you have left, as well as how many songs you have on there, etc.)
I think thats it:) Oh! And if you put songs over from a CD sometimes it doesn't recognize the cd, meaning it won't have the song title or artist. If that's the case it's usually a good idea to put the cd in a playlist by itself, and name the playlist the band's name, or something;)

  • Can i use one ipod on two computers?

    Can anyone help me please?
My son has ipod shuffle and has a separate itunes account, but before he got an ipad for his birthday, we set up itunes on my home computer, using my itunes account.
His account has lots of credit whereas mine now doesn't as we have to use my account to purchase his music!
We need to know if it's possible for him to purchase music from his itunes account either directly from his ipad or from my computer using his itunes a/c and ipod. A friend told him that he can't use his ipod on another account as it would wipe out his songs. Is this correct?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for any help.

I think you need to manually update on at least the computer that has the smaller music selection.
it may be best to turn off automatic updates on both machines and manually add and delete songs.
or you could network both computers to share one music library

  • How can I use my iPod as source for reinstalled iTunes?

    Hello @ all.
Unfortunately I had to completely reinstall my system (WinXP Pro PC) and lost my media library!
How can I use my iPod as a source to copy all my songs and settings (incl. covers, aso) to iTunes?
    iPod: 30GBs Video iPod
    iTunes Version: 7.0.2.16
can u guys help me with that?
    Thanks very much!

The transfer of purchased content to authorised computers has been introduced with iTunes 7. A paragraph on it has been added to this article: Transfer iTunes Store purchases using iPod
The transfer of non iTMS content is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there is a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows posted in this thread: MacMuse - iPod to iTunes
If you prefer something more automated then there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod, this is just a selection. Have a look at the web pages and documentation for these, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes

    iGadget Windows Only

iPod Access Mac and Windows Versions

If your iPod is set to update automatically take care when connecting back to your computer and an empty iTunes. You will get a message that your iPod is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Don't uncheck Sync Music it will be unchecked by default when you choose the manual setting: Managing content manually on iPod
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync again. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up in case you have problems again. External drives are comparatively inexpensive these days and you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

Macs will read Windows-formatted iPods, no problem.
However, Windows PCs won't ready Mac-formatted iPods without extra software, such as xPlay (www.mediafour.com/products/xplay/). So if you want to continue to use the Mac as your iPod's 'home base' you'll need this extra software to use the iPod on both platforms.

How can I use my iPod nano on more than one computer?

    Hi, China6450.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
I would recommend setting up Manually manage music.  This will only allow music to be synced from the computer to the iPod nano.  Here are some helpful articles that will walk you through the process.

  • Can I use 1 iPod on 2 computers if 1 is a Mac and the other is a PC?

I am a Mac user primarily and I use my iPod with iTunes on my Mac most of the time. Every so often I want to connect my iPod to my PC but after installing the software that came with the iPod and then connecting it to the PC it tells me that I need to format the iPod for Windows.
So the bottom line question is....how can I use the iPod on both and be able to go back and forth without complications?

Here's a link that will give you some of the information you need. The most important thing when switching between OS is that the iPod will have to be formatted for Windows. A Mac can handle a Windows formatted iPod, a PC can't handle a Mac formatted iPod. Hope this helps.

  • Can I use my iPod on the pc at work?

    Hi,
I've just received my 5G black 30gb iPod and one of the things I was keen to do was to use it in disk mode. I have an iMac at home and a pc at work and I've read that I can't use the iPod on the windows machine, however I'm sure there must be a workaround. I only want to use it for it's storage facility. I don't want to integrate with itunes, play music, download music or any of that. I just want to use it as a portable hard disk for transferring documents from work to home.
How can I do this? Is it possible?
    Thanks in advance
    Lee

    Hello Lee.
An iPod is configured for either Mac or PC which can be changed from one to the other but using the iPod for Mac on a PC, or using the iPod for Windows on a Mac, is not supported by Apple. FAT32 is the format used by Windows, and while some FAT32 iPod models may work with your Mac, Apple only supports using the iPod shuffle in FAT32 format on Mac.
So to use it with iTunes on your Mac and for disk mode only on your PC to save/transfer files will not work.

  • HT1206 Can I use one iPod Touch with 2 accounts and download from both accounts?

Can I use one iPod Touch with 2 accounts? Can I download onto the one iPod from each account?

I havent seen anything confirming this but I suspect not. that would require you keep logging in and out of the two accounts since you can only sign in to one at once. In iTunes on your computer if you log into another iTunes account you can't log into another one for 90 days. As I say I've seen nothing confirming this on a mobile device, but I suspect it will be the same.

  • Can I use 2 ipods on 2 computers??

I want to buy my girl a Nano, I have a Mac G4 and an iPod already. Can I use 2 ipods with 1 computer, and are they separate accounts ie different choices of music??

Each user account has a separate music library, and you can set each iPod to only sync selected playlists or sync manually if you want a single library. The iPod shuffle doesn't have a manual sync option.
