Can't uninstall Quicktime (Error 2330)

I would be eternally grateful to anyone who can help me uninstall Quicktime, so that I can install iTunes. I've googled the error, but not yet found a solution that works. Every time I try to uninstall it, I get error 2330. I've tried add/remove programs, CCleaner, etc.
Please, please help me if you can!
KatMac

I had same problem today. I still haven't been able to uninstall quicktime but was able to get around it by renaming quicktime. After renaming quicktime I downloaded the new version of itunes (8) without a problem and my new ipod nano now works fine.

    Can anyone help??

    hiya!
okay, in this context the 0x80040707 (citing the QuickTimeUnInstallProc) usually indicates that the installation configuration information for the QT on your PC has been corrupted.
download and install the Windows Installer Cleanup utility, and use it to clear away any existing QuickTime installation configuration information:

... and then use the QuickTime component of the complete uninstall instructions on the following document as a guide for manual removal of left-over QT program files and folders:

once we've got the old QT scraped out of there, we'll try another standalone QT 7.0.4 install, taking a few additional explicit precautions.
download and save a copy of the standalone QT installer to your hard drive. (we'll run the install from there rather than online.) switch off all antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the install.

does that install go through okay?
if it does go through okay, does your itunes launch again?

help!!! i can't uninstall quicktime 7.0.2 (tried from control panel), which was included in my pc when i bought it, in order to install the newest version of itunes/quicktime. i would try lorraine's fix but can't even manually uninstall qt. got an error message "cannot delet file: cannot read from source file or disk". old version of itunes is gone, couldn't reinstall qt 7.0.2 (to try & repair), and remove apple itunes from NIS. i'd be grateful for any help.

HELP!!! this is driving me crazy...does anybody know how to fix this problem. how do i uninstall old version of QT in order to upgrade to the stand alone QuickTime and newest version of iTunes? I've already tried to manually delete the QT files and folders but got an error message. This totally *****! Both Apple & Windows support are pointing to each other for fixes.

How can I eliminate quicktime error code 36

    Hello,
Error -36 stands for an I/O Error.
File is not readable. You would need to generate a clean, error-free copy of the damaged file. Since some segments of the file are not readable, the best that can be done is to skip them.

  • How can I uninstall Quicktime Pro 7.4.5 and then install on a new system?

    Hi,
How can I uninstall Quicktime Pro 7.4.5 and then install on a new system?
I've got a new computer and I want to uninstall Quicktime Pro 7.4.5 and then install on the new system. Maybe I'm overlooking something, but a bunch of other applications have easy 'uninstall' functions right in the application toolbar. Why doesn't Quicktime?????
    Thanks.

I've read that Q/T is not just a simple application but in reality, a major component of the OS. This is where it varies from other similar acting apps like WMV, AVI, FLV etc. To butress this statement, in a vague way, I remember seeing a graphic of the Mac OS when Apple was first pushing "X". QuickTime was in the same general area of depth in programming as UNIX.
So, you might not want to delete all of QuickTime just the Reg Key which should/could/might put you back to the non Q/T Pro functionality and thence legal to install on another machine.
Just be certain that the version on the new machine is the same as on the old machine or expect to buy a new $30 key.
    Cheers-

  • Quicktime Error Message/Can`t uninstall Quicktime

After the last update all **** has broken loose nothing is working have looked all over at the forms for soultions have seen were i should uninstall both iTunes and Quicktime I`ve uninstalled my iTunes and now trying to uninstall the Quicktime so I can start all over and keep getting this error message when ask if I want to repair some files
Error writing to file:C\Program Files\QTSystem\QuickTime.qts. Verify that you have access to that directory
How do I verify that I have access...??? So I can finish uninstalling this mess and get thing running again...

Did you mistype the the path? It should be c:\Program Files\Quicktime\QTsytem\Quicktime.qts.
If you typed it correctly, that's odd.
Assuming you mistyped it, try running a disk check to make sure there isn't a filing system error.
Open My computer and right click on your c: drive, select Properties>>tools>>error checking. Check both the boxes.
The check starts on the next reboot and can take a while.
Download the version of QUicktime that does NOT include iTunes from here:
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/win.html
    Close all other programs.
Then try manually uninstalling Quicktime using the method here:
    XP
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925
    Vista
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
If that goes though OK, Restart your PC and install the stand alone Quicktime.

  • Error 2738-can't uninstall Quicktime

I am getting this error when I try to uninstall Quicktime. I tried to update to latest version and received this error as well.
Until Quicktime is properly installed, I cannot install Itunes.
I tried installing Itunes with Quicktime and get the same error with the Quicktime install.
Message was edited by: Richard Lara

I had the 2738 error for both Quicktime and Itunes. The solution of running the command; regsvr32 vbscript.dll in the system32 folder did not work for me.
I'm running Vista 64 Bit Home Edition. After much trail and error this is what worked.
open Command Prompt using a right click "Run as Administrator".
    cd to C:\windows\syswow64
type- regsvr32 vbscript.dll, then hit enter.
This is not an official solution but it worked for my 64 bit system.

  • Quicktime Error 2330 during Itunes and Quicktime Installation

Whenever I try to install Itunes or Quicktime the Erro 2330
    pops up and says ProgramFiles/QTSystem/QuicktimeMPEG4Authoring.Resources/no.lproj
I tried to uninstall Quicktime with the same error along with another number Error 1603.
I downloaded the Windows Clean Up and deleted Quicktime but when I manually go into Program Files and click Delete, it does not delete and says something about QuicktimeMPEG4Authoring.Resources thing.
    PLEASE PLEASE Help!

Whenever I try to install Itunes or Quicktime the Erro 2330
    pops up and says ProgramFiles/QTSystem/QuicktimeMPEG4Authoring.Resources/no.lproj
2330s, especially ones that cite language resource files and folders (you seem to having a problem with Norwegian resources), can often be caused by disk damage near the files in question.
so perhaps try running a chkdsk over the drive that your 2330 is citing. see:
How to perform disk error checking in Windows XP
does the chkdsk find/repair any damage? if so, does the itunes/QuickTime install go through properly afterwards?

  • Can't get iTunes to open, Can't uninstall QuickTime. Why?

When I try to open QuickTime I get "Error -2095, make sure QuickTime is properly installed." Vers 6.5.0.48
When I try to open iTunes "encountered a problem and needs to close." Vers 7.0.2.16
I read forum and advice was to uninstall iTunes, which I was able to do successfully.
Then I tried to uninstall QuickTime and got: C:\windows\system32\QUICKT~1\UNINS~1.log
    Exception C:\windows\system32\shell32.dll\control_rundll
I went to windows explorer and found system32\QuickTime and the uninstall file is there but system does not think it is there.
I am in a quandry. I love my ipod nano, 2gb, which I bought a few days ago, but I sure wish I had read these forum postings before buying. I am discouraged, disheartened, disappointed.
I have 363 songs on my ipod now and would love to move new songs to ipod, but can't get anything to work.
Any help out there? Is there anyone from Apple who can help? hello? Is there a phone number for Apple tech support?

    Check out this Apple help:

It sounds as though you need the bit towards the bottom of that page called:
Clean up iTunes installer files on the computer
You can get the Windows Installer Cleanup utility here:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301/
BTW iTunes cannot work if Quicktime doesn't work.

  • ITunes will not launch - can't uninstall Quicktime

I'm really, really annoyed with iTunes.
Rebuilt computer and installed iTunes 7 on a fresh config after antivirus software and firewall were installed. Had sound problems but managed to fix them.
Rebooted and tried to open up iTunes - only to get an error, rebooted again, same thing. Tried opening Quicktime - same. Tried Quicktime settings from control panel - a Fatal error has occured.
Uninstalled iTunes, with an eye to trying to install it again. That worked, but when I tried to uninstall Quicktime it got half way, then "A fatal error has occured". Tried downloading and installing Quicktime without iTunes - that wouldn't even run.
Tried iTunes install anyway, but got the same problems as before. Tried v.6.5 - but that claimed the freshly downloaded file from Apple was corrupt.
I now cannot uninstall or use Quicktime, cannot use iTunes or update my iPods and am really fed up with Apple over this shoddy update.
I've searched through the support pages, but cannot find a fix for this problem.
I'd be happy to try any fixes that might be around, especially if it means I can get v.6.5 on my machine (which worked fine!)
For now, I'm going to be searching out another player for my audio and video.
    Most dissapointed.

Tried opening Quicktime - same. Tried Quicktime settings from control panel - a Fatal error has occured.
that corresponds to a "standalone 1603" error message on earlier versions of the itunes and quicktime installers.
    let's try this first.
    here's what we'll try first.
Download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. then use it to clear any existing QuickTime installation configuration information from your PC:
Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
Next, we’ll manually remove leftover program files and folders.
    1. On the Start menu, click My Computer (or double-click My Computer on the Desktop).
    2. In My Computer, open Local Disk.
    3. Open Program Files.
    4. Right-click on the QuickTime folder and click Delete from the shortcut menu.
    5. Navigate to C:\Windows\system32\.
    6. Remove the files QuickTime.qts and QuicktimeVR.qtx.
    7. Restart your computer.
once we've got all the existing QuickTime scraped away, let's try a careful standalone QT 7.1.3 reinstall.
download and save a copy of the QT 7.1.3 standalone installer to your hard drive. (we'll run the install from there rather than online.) switch off antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the install.
Quicktime 7.1.3 Installers … get the one that doesn’t mention itunes
if that install goes through okay, reboot the PC and try another itunes install. does that go through okay this time?
(if you get an error message on the QT standalone reinstall, let us know what it says. include error message numbers if you're getting any.)

  • Can't upgrade iTunes... can't uninstall QuickTime

    Help!!
I've missed a couple of upgrades to iTunes, waiting to investigate the problem - error 1322, a portion of the path exceeds the maximum length allowed by the system.
Now I think I've isolated it. If I try and uninstall Quicktime (version 7.1) I get the same problem.
So I think uninstalling and reinstalling Quicktime will help. But how do I do that - I can't get past the error.
Any experienced insights will be welcomed!
    Thank you

I just solved a similar problem by using "Windows Install Clean Up" to completely remove my old version of Quicktime. Be very careful using this program, since it removes programs from the Window's registry. You can download it from Microsoft's web site.
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301
Be sure to carefully read all the instructions on the webpage before using the program.
Run the "Windows Install Clean Up" program.
Select Quicktime and remove it. Don't select anything else!
After this, try updating iTunes. I hope it works for you.

  • QuickTime error 2330

just recently, I have tried to install iTunes. It gets about 85% complete, then throws a QuickTime error. The code is 2330 and after reading for a while the solution seems to be removing QuckTime from your system. Every time I try to do this, I get the same 2330 error saying the installer has encountered an unexpected error installing this package.
      Windows XP Pro
      Windows XP

I can't believe Apple have not been able solve this problem yet. I've been dealing with it for a couple weeks and no actual solution is still available.
So here is just a clue for some tech wiz (I'm not one)to start up from.
    if you Review the iTUNES Setup log file (may be named MSIf93a5.LOG or similar) that the installer leaves on your TEMP file of your local settings directory;
This log file includes a message similar to this:
"The installer found an unspected error while installing this package. This can indicate a problem with this package. The code error is 2330. the arguments are: 23, c:\program files\iPod\bin\iPodService.Resources\no.lproj,"
What isinteresting here is that if you try to go to that directory (c:program files\iPod\bin\iPodService.Resources)and try to find out what's in it, you'll get a windows error messsage saying that that the C: disk is not formated, and asks you if you would like to format it.
No need to say That I click on NO, since I dont want my whole disk to be Formated.
Unless there is a way to unformat a sector to write binary code directly onto the physical disk so that no windows format may be necesary to run a program from it, this whole error seem to be exclusively related to the package code it self.
The question is: If this is so, then why others seem not to have this difficulties with the iTunes upgrade package? I'm reluctant to believe that just a few have have tryed the upgrade. so other resons may be related to memory, disk space, conflictig software or even lack of windows updated libraries or components. In either case, the package should be able to catch the insconsistency and install whatever it needs to work properly, not just leaving the users without the posibility to use his iPod.
Temporary solution may be to go back to previous version.
Anyway, if anyone finds out how to overcome this , just let me know.

  • Uninstalling Quicktime Errors.

When I try to uninstall quicktime it starts but then before it can finsh it says "fatal error during installation". I don't know if there's something wrong with the file or if there's a virus in it or what. But I need to get rid of Quicktime to reinstall iTunes. Help please. =ll

When I try to uninstall quicktime it starts but
then before it can finsh it says "fatal error during
    installation".
when folks get the "fatal error" under those
circumstances, it's usually best to scrape out both
the existing itunes and quicktime and then do a
careful staged reinstall of QuickTime and then
    itunes.
for the procedure, see the following post:
    http://discussions.apple.com/click.jspa?searchID=-1&me

I understand the staged re installation part. But How do you"scrape" out both itunes and quicktime. I deleted itunes just fine, but I get the "Fatal error during install" when I am uninstalling quicktime and it wont delete the darn program.

  • Can't open Quicktime: "Error: Unable to create control"

Okay, my problem is that I want to put movies on my new Ipod Touch, and to do that I need to use Itunes to Convert my files to MP4. I have found out that some of my .MPG files can be used, but some of the others can't and thats the same with my .AVI files. I have found a program to convert these .MPG and .AVI files into MP4 files for Ipod. But I found out that it needs Quicktime Player to do that, and unfortunately my Quicktime doesn't work, I don't know why I just can't even get a screen of the program up. When I try to open the program, after a little amount of time an Error window opens and says "Unable to create control" I have tried to delete both Quicktime and Itunes at same time and also just one at a time, I have tried to take an older version of Quicktime and install it, but no matter what I do it just won't work.
    Can somebody please help me?

Thank you for trying to help. But I have tried to download the Program MPEG Streamclip as you said but unfortunately it need Quicktime too, the Readme said that there were another program I could use too called Quicktime Alternative. So I tried to uninstall the real Quicktime and install the alternative instead. But either the program MPEG Streamclip can't see that I have removed Quicktime or that I have removed the old one.
Every time I put an .avi file into the program it can only convert about 1:30min of the movie and that is only with the sound no movie, and if I put one of the .MPG (that Itunes can't convert) in an error box pops up and says:
*The Apple QuickTime 6 MPEG-2 Playback Component is not installed...*
Please uninstall QuickTime completely. Then install QuickTime Alternative (1.61 or later), making sure the "Extra QuickTime plugins checkbox is enable.
Alternatively, if you have Apple QuicktTime and you don't want to uninstall it, you can buy MPEG-2 Playback Component from Apple Computer.
I think this is a bit sad cause I just bought the new Ipod Touch and I can't put the movies I like the most.
    Hope someone can help me...
But thanks for the time you used to try to help me QuickTimeKirk
