Can't uninstall/remove babylon search

I am using Firefox V 15.1
I can't get rid of Babylon Search
I have unistalled it and all its variants using appwix.cpl it no longer appears in my programs.
I have reset Firefox, this works initially but babylon returned the next time i opened firefox.
I have run about:config changed the keyword.url to google and then searched for babylon and reset all the strings. babylon still comes back.
I have searched my computer tirelessly for the folder/file no joy.
I can't regedit.exe because i'm unsure exactly which dll relates to babylon.
It was unbelievably easy to remove from IE. Mozilla need to sort this. Otherwise in 2 days time i'm taking to twitter and FB to vent, there will be a knock on effect and it's reasonable to believe that several hundred thousand people will have heard about this and gone back to IE by the middle of next week.

Have you made sure you've uninstalled all Babylon programs from your control Panel? there are several. B-protection, browser manager, etc. I'd go back and see if there is anything suspicious. Also try to scan for malware.
You can try some of the following programs to scan for malware:
* [http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware]
* [http://support.kaspersky.com/faq/?qid=208283363 TDSSKiller - AntiRootkit Utility]
* [http://windows.microsoft.com/MSE Microsoft Security Essentials] (A good permanent anti-virus if you don't already have one)
Further information can be found in the [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware]] article.

  • How do I remove babylon search from my computer

I had a technician to clean and remove Babylon search from my computer and it still attached itself to whatever I'm doing. I uninstalled Mozilla fox at least five times , then re-installed. However, I cannot get rid of Babylon search. I spent $100 dollars to resolved this problem and it's not working. I handle high confidential files on my computer. I am afraid to open the file due to fear of information being compromised.
    Please Help!!!

please make sure that you don't have any babylon related extensions or other suspicious entries like 3rd-party-toolbars presently installed under firefox > addons > extensions (babylon also might install some unwanted stuff that comes under the names "Browser Manager", "Browser Protector", "Bprotector", "Object Installer", etc.) or in the windows control panel > programs section.
afterwards install the search reset addon - it will revert the most common customziations those adware programs do in firefox back to the default: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/searchreset/

  • I WANT TO REMOVE BABYLON SEARCH WHICH APPEARS WHENEVER I START FIREFOX

In addition to above I wish to inform you that Babylon addon is not available in my computer so that I may remove the same. I suspect some scam as I want Google as my default web browser & I want that whenever I start Firefox I should see startup page of Firefox and not Babylon search page, Babylon was erroneously downloaded by me which I removed but I am not able to remove Babylon search.
''(changed text to lowercase for readability - c)''

I did this but the problem still persists. The Babylon icon is still on the page and it is still using Babylon as a search engine. I went back into the about:config and when I type in keyword the adjustment suggested is fine but there is another Babylon lineafter it. It is as follows:
    extensions.BabylonToolbar.keyWordUrl i user set string http://search.babylon.com/?babsrc=SP_ss&q={searchTerms}&mntrId=a4c2fb5f00000000000000ff9c40d7f0&tlver=1.4.35.10&affID=100489

  • Can´t uninstall / remove app

    Hi forum
I want to uninstall Soundtrack Pro on all student´s Books. On one test machine
I have done a File Search, selected the files to remove, clicked Delete Selected and Delete.
But ARD tells me that it "Failed on all".
    Why is that?
    Thanks,
    itsalltaken

I've been using ARD to do what you describe.... successfully mostly.
Sometimes it doesn't work.... for no obvious reason....
I simply quit ARD, re-open it, rebuild my list of clients, and try again....
Sometimes I need to try a few times before it does the job!
Over time I've notice that ARD 3 can become unstable/crash when
trying to copy files over or when trying to delete files on remote clients...
    on wired networks....
Since you mentioned "MacBooks", I assume you trying this over Wireless....
It might had more instability to the mix....

  • How can I uninstall / remove HP printer drivers and software?

    Hi,
I tried using the HP uninstall program to remove the HP printer drivers and related software, but I still see them in my hard drive. I see HP files in my Library/Preferences and Library/Printers folder. I will remove them by hand. Are there other HP files I should remove?
    Thanks,
    Ken

    Hi Ken!
I have a HP printer as well, and these are the items that are on my HD.
    HD > Applications: Hewlett-Packard Folder
HD > Users > Your Account > Library > Preferences:
    com.apple.print.PrinterProxy.Your HP Printer.plist File
    com.apple.print.PrintCenter.plist File
    com.hp.printerutility.plist File
    hp inkjet utility prefs File
    com.hp.Device.Manager.plist File
    com.hp.Photosmart.Studio.plist File
    com.hp.scanpro.prefs File
    com.hp.scanpro.plist File
    com.hp.photosmart.scandestinations.plist File
    Hewlett-Packard Preferences Folder
    com.hp.printerselector.plist File
    com.apple.print.custompresets.plist File
In the above Preferences folder, look for any other files or folders related to your printer as well.
HD > Library > Printers: hp Folder
But I also have HP camera software installed, so you may not have all of these.

  • How to remove Babylon from the search engine menu?

My OS is Windows 7 Pro 64 bit; using Firefox ver 15.0. I downloaded Babylon tool bar and related apps because they were associated with a tool manual that I wanted to review. I then discovered how invasive these apps are. Successfully removed Babylon downloader and Tool bar via Start | Control Panel | program menu. However I notice that "Search the web (Babylon)" is still listed in the drop down menu of search engine options. I have defaulted my search engine to Google, and I can delete the Babylon option, but it returns every time when I close my browser and then return to my FF Mozilla home page. How can I permanently remove Babylon as a search engine option?

Babylon is the most pernicious, invasive, intrusive, manipulative and misleading software company on the internet. They pretend to be legitimate but their practices, actions and tactics are in the same league as spyware, viruses and malware. If there is a way to block them I want to know how. Legal action is the only way companies like this one can be controlled. I volunteer as lead plaintiff.

  • How to remove dlink search engine

All of a sudden when I get into google on safari I get directed to dlink search and can't to remove that search history eventohough I cleaned the search history

If it was added through extensions, Safari menu -> Preferences -> Extensions.  You can't remove the default search engines.

  • Firefox tells me it can harm my computer and when I accept it it says that maybe I don't have permissions to access it. It all started when I accidentaly installed "Babylon" search engine tool bar, when I removed it, the system started blocking Firefox

I accidentally installed the Babylone search engine tool bar while dowloading a program and when I realized that Firefox had been substituded I tried to get back and even ran a restore for the system. Since then, everytime I try to reisnstall Firefox, there is a message that says that Firefox can harm my system and when I ignore it, it says that maybe I don't have permits or licenses for it. I am frustrates as even the menu bar from my alternative search engine, Google Chrome, has disappeared.
Please write back and tell me what to do

You may also need to create a new profile in case more files were damaged by closing down Firefox that way.

when I open firefox, in the address bar comes search.babylon.com I have tried everything to get rid of it and can't. Please help

Unless you are a new computer user you may consider doing the above in a different order, and even avoiding the Reset Firefox step.

#*see also [[Cannot uninstall an add-on]] <br/>and [[Remove a toolbar that has taken over your Firefox search or home page]]
    #Try ''SearchReset''
#*SearchReset may not have a permanent effect unless rogue software is removed first.
#*Also I am not certain SearchReset deals with [http://kb.mozillazine.org/User.js_file user.js] files if that was created or modified by Babylon etc
    # Consider using FirefoxReset. <br/>Reset is quick and easy, BUT be aware it removes amongst other things all of your Firefox software extensions. You may wish to at least list them and their websites before you use Reset.

  • Babylon search??? has attached to my firefox and I can't get rid of it. There is a back tab with firefox and a front and dominant one with babylon. Help

i have no clue what babylon search is. it has taken a tab in front of firefox. i am terryfied since I use your browser for sensitive info.

Any search toolbar and changes to search engines can take place by downloading and installing software; usually "free" software from the internet. Babylon can be downloaded and installed by itself or as a "ride-along" when installing/updating some software from the internet. Always look for an opportunity during the installation to un-check boxes that will install "ride-along" items that you do not want. Firefox installation does not include such "ride-along" items.
#Remove Babylon Toolbar (if you have it installed). The most complete removal is to remove it from your system using (Windows) Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs): http://kb.mozillazine.org/Uninstalling_toolbars#Uninstalling_via_Windows_Control_Panel<br />

  • How can I stop Firefox from opening a new Tab as Babylon Search?

So I recently downloaded Babylon (for an offer), and Babylon search started to open when I open a new Tab. I've uninstalled the Babylon program and the Search Add-On, but it still keeps on opening. is there any possible way that I can fix this? I want to open my new Tab as a blank page.

    Hello, i'll teach you how:
    # First, at the web address, go to about:config
    # When a warning shows up, just hit "I'll be careful, I promise!"
    # Then at the search bar, just type this - browser.newtab.url
    # Just right click on the result, and hit "Reset"
View the picture I've attached for reference.
    That's it!

  • I can't uninstall Thunderbird from my Windows Programs "uninstall list"; why does it not uninstall and be removed from this list?

Very frustrating...under the Windows "Programs/Uninstall a program" list, Mozilla Thunderbird is still listed AFTER I have removed it completely (I thought) from my computer. I have clicked on "uninstall" several times and nothing happens. I resent the fact that Mozilla has set this up so that it apparently can't be removed from that list.. What's that all about? I have tried to research the problem, even using your website to no avail. All I want to do is get it out of my uninstall/change list. I have not used that program AND won't use it. I don't want that program on my computer/list period. I would appreciate your help.

This is a fault with Windows application management. Mozilla does nothing to interfere with the install/uninstall process.
You could re-install Thunderbird to re-synch the applications list and then un-install it again, or you could use a utility to remove it from the list.
A search for ''thunderbird.exe'' will confirm whether or not it has been truly removed, though you may need to disable all the idiot-proofing that Microsoft implement to stop us seeing the true state of the file system; set it to show hidden files and file extensions for starters.
Thunderbird is pretty much self-contained. You are free to manually remove the folder the application lives in if Windows is unable to uninstall it for you, though that won't fix the incorrect appearance of thunderbird in the list of installed applications.
