Can't unlock itunes files

I just bought a new Etec mp3 player. I tried dragging an itunes file onto it but all of them are locked and will not play. Does Itunes work only with Apple products, or is there a way to unlock the music files so they will work with other mp3 players.

If you will look in the "quick links" box on the right side of the main store window, you will see a link for iT Plus. When doing just general browsing in the store, the iT Plus files, will have a "+" sign in front of the individual song price. The complete CD will be clearly marked as an iT Plus CD, right above the "buy" button.
A lot of folks have made an assumption that the store sells files in mp3 format which they never have. Files have always been in AAC format & until approximately the past year, when iT Plus came on board, all files were protected. The protection has always been required by the major record companies & other copyright holders not Apple.

  • How to unlock itunes files or you don't have write permission for windows 7

I'm using windows 7 and I can't get into itunes. This is what pops up, unlock itunes files or you do not have write permission. Can someone help please?

You need give the exact error message.
If you get a locked disk message when you try to open iTunes, there are a number of possible causes.
Here are some things to try:
Check the permissions on you iTunes folder in music, your account and SYSTEM should have full control.

    If permissions are OK:
Hold down the shift key and start iTunes, keep holding the shift key until you are prompted to choose a library. Navigate to your iTunes folder and choose iTunes Library.itl.
If this doesn't work, try recreating your library:

  • Can't see iTunes files after using usb drive for time machine

I have a usb 1TB drive with my iTunes files on it from my old MacBook, I now have a MacBook Pro OSx 10.9.4 and I set it to be used for TimeMachine. I no longer can see my folders/files. Why and how do I get access to them again? I know they are there just can't get to them.

Never mind found out that files were never there.

  • How can I unlock numerous files at the same time (i.e. photos) so I can make changes (rotate etc)?

Im using Lion on a MacBook Pro 15in (just under two years old) and I would like to know if I can lock numerous photo files at the same time so I can make changes to them. At the moment when I select an entire folder to go through and make changes, ie rotate in Preview, I am told with each photo that I have to unlock it. I am going through photos I took of archival material and have nearly 5000 photos to adjust and make changes to. This small step is taking up a lot of time.
I realise there will probably be a common 'sense' answer to this but it alludes me at the moment so any help would be appreciated.

  • Can't play iTune file I received by email in iTunes?

I received an iTune audio file by email but I can't play the file nor import the file into the library. If I click on the file it opens iTunes but nothing else happens. Any suggestions?

Did you bounce at 44.1kHz, 16 bit? AIFF or AAC or MP3 should be fine for iTunes, but sample rate and bit depth is important.

  • I backed up everything, per genius bar advice, can't find itunes file there

I backed up all my computer's data. Now, I want to retrieve an itunes file from that backup disc, but when I click on itunes, I don't see all my files, only an application. How do I access single files from my backup disc?  It should also be on icloud.

I forgot to add that even though the files show in my iPod after being deleted while connected to Windows, they are not playable in the iPod. If I click play the iPod starts freaking out and not responding properly (the scroll wheel gets all jerky).
I did multiple soft resets and that did not fix the issue. Thanks all!

  • Can I use iTunes files on a non-Apple device?

    Hi all
I have a bit of a random question I was hoping someone could answer. I have a 120GB iPod, and I´ve got an iTunes account with a bit of cash in it, ready to spend on a few movies.
HOWEVER, the catch is that I´m actually travelling around South America right now for 6 months. I do not have my PC/laptop with me, and therefore can not sync anything to my iPod, so using the device for movies is out of the question.
I DO have an Epson P-6000 with me, which plays MP4 files. So my question is this:
If I log into my iTunes account whilst overseas, can I download a movie and transfer it to my Epson to play, instead of using my iPod? The Epson just uses Windows Explorer to transfer files to picture/music/video folders, so physically moving the file won´t be a problem. I´m just curious if the file will prohibit me using it outside of iTunes or my iPod.
    Thanks in advance.

I am not sure you will be even able to download files outside of the UK to your account. The newest terms state
+10. Territory. The Service is currently available only in the United Kingdom and is not available in any other location. You agree not to use or attempt to use the Service from outside of the available territory, and that iTunes may use technologies to verify your compliance+.

  • Can I export iTunes files in an MP3 format to a thumb drive so that I can play them on my car stereo?

Is this even possible?  I know dragging and dropping the items from iTunes onto the drive doesn't work.  Anybody know if/how it can be done?
    Thanks.

Some corrections needed (but I use an older iTunes and no longer bother to try to keep up with newer versions or Apple doings):
Unless Apple has changed things back to the way they were 5 years ago, your music purchases are DRM free and you can now convert AAC to MP3 within iTunes (unless your files are from DRM days).
Again unless Apple has changed things, creating mp3s from AAC files in iTunes will not replace the AAC.  It will create new files (make sure iTunes preferences are set to create mp3).  In iTunes you have to display the "kind" column to distinguish because your AAC original and mp3 copy will appear as duplicates since they will have similar tags.
You say dragging doesn't work.  Please clarify. No files copy?  The files copy but won't play?  Dragging from an iTunes playlist to a drive will normally copy files (it does with iTunes 7.5) unless the drive is locked.  Files will not play if your car doesn't support the file format you try (dragging AAC files will put AAC on the drive which is still not universally supported), or if you format your drive to an unsupported format.  That should be specified by your car's player but likely will not support Mac formatted drives and you should probably leave the FAT32 format that many drives comes as.  If you formatted to Mac then you should reformat the flash drive back to DOS.

  • Can't consolidate iTunes files to move to external hard drive. No room on HD!

    Hi,
Trying to move my iTunes library to External HD, but when I get to the consolidate files part, I get a pop-up saying there is no room to do so...Is there a way around this step? Can I move everything some other way? My HD is soooooo full!
    Thanks!
    Scott

You can do what Niel recommends but from what you have told us about this issue I think it possibly won't be something solved by a plain "do this" statement.  You may not even need to consolidate.
If you are consolidating to your HD and it is requiring so much space to do so then it sounds to me like somehow in the past all your media has become scattered around or at least is not in the iTunes preferred structure. It is possible Niels suggestion of moving the iTunes folder first may not apply because the material that is the very reason you are consolidating may not be in your iTunes folder to start with and will get left behind in the dragging prior to consolidating.  Unfortunately consolidating copies files, does not delete them and when you say iTunes is telling you there's too little room then that suggests to me your folder structure is very disorganized (at least iTunes thinks so) because it is copying a lot of files.  In order to resolve this you may need to do some hand consolidating but it would be better to hear from you exactly the state of your library before doing this.  Have you been manually managing media?  If so, where's the majority of your media in your folder structure?
Here' general background on moving libraries:
iTunes: How to move [or copy] your music [library] to a new computer [or another drive] - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527 - a somewhat bewildering and not always easily understandable set of options.
For the record there's this reference for iTunes 11 but it really doesn't strike me as having the specifics you need. iTunes 11 for Mac: Move your library to another computer - http://support.apple.com/kb/PH12168
2011 ilounge article: Transferring your iTunes library - http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/articles/comments/moving-your-itunes-library-to -a-new-hard-drive/  - An article with good background information (similar to the links above), particularly if you are not sure your media files are all grouped for quick answer above. Unfortunately under the single term "transferring library" it describes two very different moves; relocating just your media (not  really transferring your library and not recommended unless you really need this configuration), and relocating media+database (really your whole "library").  Make sure you understand the difference before electing to move only media.
Do not confuse moving your whole folder and library with moving just media files as in
iTunes for Mac: Moving your iTunes Media folder - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1449

  • Can I export itunes files to windows media player?

itunes lets me import music tracks from my windows media player, but I can't seem to get itunes tracks to go the othe way, into my windows media player. I'd like to be able to do both, as sometimes I buy tracks online at MSN, and sometimes at itunes, and I like to keep em on both players if possible. Can anyone advise? Thanks.

OK, if you buy songs at MSN you have to burn them to audio MP3s and re-rip them as MP3s to your PC into iTunes. Then they will go on your iPod.
If you buy songs at Apple you have to burn them to audio MP3s and re-rip them as MP3s to your PC intop whatever MSN uses. Then they will go on your MP3 player.
These different digital rights management schemes don't make it easy on us honest folks.
To quote Otto, "inconvenient" and that's the mildest comment I can use.
I myself have it easy because I like indie label music and I use emusic, which is mp3 to start with.

  • Unlocking windows files doesn't work

Hi, I went to print some projects yesterday and my usb drive got a virus or two. Usually I would just unlock the files in Leopard and trash them, but I can't unlock the files with Snow Leopard.
    Any help?
    Thanks,
    Jaco

Firstly, this is a bit long (sorry), but will fix your problem.
I solved this problem using the terminal. In the mac os, you need to move something to the trash before deleting it. In unix, on which the mac os is based, you can delete anything in place using the command "rm", shorthand for remove.
To delete locked files that you can't unlock and delete using the mac os, you will need:
    Administrator privileges, including administrator password
    A locked file
    Extreme care
in addition to the "rm" command, you'll also be using the "sudo" command, which is short for "Super user do". Be very careful with this, as you will not be asked "are you sure?" when using "rm" or "sudo". any changes you make *are irreversible*. Consider yourself warned.
These steps assume that the files you want to delete are on an external drive, as mine were.
    1-
    open terminal
    Macintosh HD>Applications>Utilities>Terminal
    you should see something like:
Last login: Wed Oct 14 23:43:36 on ttys000
    USERNAMEs-iMac:~ USER$
    2-
type "cd /" and hit enter
Last login: Wed Oct 14 23:43:36 on ttys000
    USERNAMEs-iMac:~ USER$ cd /
    USERNAMEs-iMac:/ USER$
    3-
type "cd Volumes" and hit enter. unix is case sensitive, and you'll need to give "Volumes" the capital "V".
Last login: Wed Oct 14 23:43:36 on ttys000
    USERNAMEs-iMac:~ USER$ cd /
    USERNAMEs-iMac:/ USER$ cd Volumes
    USERNAMEs-iMac:/ USER$
    4-
type "ls" and hit enter. This will list the contents of "Volumes". In case you haven't worked it out, the "cd" command is short for "change directory" and is used as the command line equivalent of opening a folder in the mac os.
Last login: Wed Oct 14 23:43:36 on ttys000
    USERNAMEs-iMac:~ USER$ cd /
    USERNAMEs-iMac:/ USER$ cd Volumes
    USERNAMEs-iMac:Volumes USER$ ls
    USB-DRIVE Macintosh HD
    USERNAMEs-iMac:Volumes USER$
Before we move on, we need to take a look at what we have.
    this line:
    USERNAMEs-iMac:Volumes USER$
not only shows us where we are in the computer, but also shows that the computer is waiting for a command.
    USERNAMEs-iMac:Volumes
means that we're in the folder "Volumes" on "USERNAMEs" computer. I assume that your username is not, in fact, USERNAME.
the $ symbol means that the computer is waiting for a command.
    this line:
    USB-DRIVE Macintosh HD
appeared after we typed "ls", short for "list structure"
in my case, there are 2 further folders inside "Volumes": "USB-DRIVE" and "Macintosh HD"
you may also have a few more, depending on what else is plugged in to your computer.
    5-
in order to delete the files, you'll need to navigate to them. my locked files were on my USB drive, which is where i'm assuming yours are too. If not, navigate to them now using "cd".
if you need to go to your user account's home folder, type "cd ~ ". " ~ " is the button immediately below the escape button on your keyboard, and you'll need to hold shift to type it.
if you need to go to the top level of your computer (the same as double clicking "Macintosh HD" in the finder), type "cd /"
if you accidentally open a folder and just need to go up one level, type "cd .."
if you need to see what folders and files are at your current location, use "ls" again
if you can't open a folder, because there is a space character in the name, type "cd 'folder name' ", including the single quote marks, where folder name is the directory you're trying to open.
remember that unix is case sensitive, so match the case exactly for any files that you try to open.

if you attempt this on a locked file, however, it will ask you to confirm. (i forget the exact message, as I have deleted all the locked files already...) even if you type "yes" to confirm, the file will not be deleted.
this is where "sudo" comes in. "sudo" should only every be used as a last resort, if you are really 100% completely sure that you want to do whatever it is that you're doing with it. used improperly, "sudo" can destroy your computer. it won't here, with what we're doing, but i'm just trying to get across that it isn't a command to be played around with. (it's all fun and games until someone loses an eye...)
type "sudo rm 'locked file 1'" if the file has a space in its name, or
"sudo rm locked2" if it doesn't. obviously, "locked file 1" or "locked 2" will be different for you. if the file has a file extension, type that too, for example, "sudo rm program2.exe"

    USERNAMEs-iMac:USB-DRIVE USER$ sudo rm locked2
    Password:
The password that is now being asked of you is the Administrator password. If you are not logged in as administrator, you will need to log out and log in as one to do this.
Type your password and hit enter.
You will be asked at this point to confirm deletion of the locked file. Type "yes" and hit enter
if you type "ls" again, you should see that the stubborn file is gone. If you open the folder where it was located using the finder, you should see that it's gone, too.
    8-
Repeat the "sudo" command for any other locked files that you need to delete. You will not be asked for your password again, unless you quit Terminal and relaunch it, but you will need to confirm each time.
once you have finished deleting files, you can just quit Terminal; you don't need to type a specific command to do so.

  • Transfer itune files to a new itunes account?

can I transfer itune files to a new itunes account?

mskatyjane, have you recevied any other info on this problem?  I have the same question, i.e.
I have an iPod Touch and so does my son.  Until now, I have "shared" my iTunes account with him, syncing both iPods to my iTunes account, and only putting on his iPod the music/games he liked.  He is now old enough to have his own iTunes account on his own computer.  Is there a way to create an AppleID for him and transfer his info from my iTunes account into his new one?  I believe that if I create an Apple ID for him, and try to sync his iPod, it will say that his iPod is already synced with another iTunes/Apple ID account.
Hope we get a response!  I have posted my question separately as well.

  • Can't install itunes 10.3.1.55, installer won't run

I have been able to download the installer program, but when I run the installer nothing happens except for a brief appearance of a loading bar on the screen, which soon vanishes. No error messages, it just won't run.
I have tried right click and run as administrator - same problem. I have tried uninstalling itunes and quicktime, made no difference. I have restarted, I have removed all temp files and old versions of the installer. Tried redownloading the installer. Still nothing.
So now I have no itunes, but a new ipad enroute that I won't be able to sync argh!
Running windows vista 64bit (yes I am using the 64 bit installer program) on an HP laptop.
    Any help greatly appreciated!

Well as I mentioned earlier I had alreayd tried the uninstalling (as per the apple support website).
I went through trying to change the permissions - which seemed a little confusing as although I am the only use of the computer there were about 5 options - but I picked the one that was the same as my user name. Changed most of the permissions for program files and program files (x86) (some of them it wouldn't allow me to change "access denied"), restarted and tried to install again. Same thing happened as before - nothing.
I have never received the error message that was mentioned in that thread.
edit: I don't have anyone I can get the itunes files off at the moment, so I haven't tried transferring them from another computer.
