Can't unlock Keychain

My keychain is locked, and none of my known passwords work. I followed the steps to change password, but it wants the old password and keeps telling me what I put in is wrong. I reset the administrative password with the install disk, then tried to reset the keychain to default factory settings. Is there a default password, because after I "reset" it, it asked for a password, and I typed everything I could think of, and nothing works.
I looked on the old postings and tried those steps, but they didn't work for me.

Eme:why did you direct Joanne to make a new post in installation & setup, which makes sense & then to unix ?Actually, Joanne had posted in a topic which had been answered. I suggested she start a new topic. She started a topic in Installation and Setup, but it was getting no response. I thought that there may be some Unix approach using terminal commands to get her into her locked keychain. Maybe I don't know enough about Unix to refer people. Sorry if I misdirected her. Her post in Installation has not been answered either, the last time I looked.

Can I unlock keychains permanently?

Since I'm the only user on my computer, I'd like to unlock all keychains permanently so I don't have to go through the rigmarole every time I open Mail.
This is a new problem because I was trying to learn what keychains were all about and I evidentally did something wrong. As so often is the case with the Mac, a little knowledge can be dangerous.

Thank you all for your answers, but I found the solution to my particular problem in the Help section of Mail. It's called "Mail keeps asking for my keychain password." The advice tells you how to change the keychain lock settings, and so far this answer worked for me.
I should have been more specific that it was Mail that was giving me the most problems.
I do appreciate your taking the time to help out and your solutions will likely help others with general keychain problems.

You need to check with your ISP whether or not the send mail server (SMTP) requires a password. Some do, but many do not. When you know the correct password to send mail, then you need to tell Mail as follows:
Mail menu > Preferences > Accounts > Select the account
Click on the Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) combo box, and select Edit SMTP Server List...
In the Account Information tab put the server name
In the Advanced Tab, set up the authentication information from your ISP.

ADMIN CAN'T UNLOCK SYSTEM PREFS!!! THIS IS A BUG, PEOPLE!

Ever since I upgraded to Maverick, I haven't been able to change my locked system preferences. They just won't unlock, no matter what I do. Everywhere I've gone to get some clarity on this problem, all anybody asks is if I'm the Admin, like I'm some kind of moron who doesn't know that if you click the lock and enter your password, the lock will unlock. Yes, I'm the Admin, mine is the only account on my MacBook Pro, everything worked fine before I upgraded, and now what I get is this:

For those of you who require a visual of the problem to see that it's NOT happening because users just don't know how to work the lock, I beg you…please look at this 7 second YouTube video. Every lock in system preferences behaves just like this. That's the only consistency I've found. I've been researching this for days now and while it seems that tons of people are having the same problem, completely unable to either lock or unlock their preference settings, nobody anywhere seems to have a clue as to how to definitively fix this problem. It's not Maverick because I've read posts from other users who are complaining about the same behavior from Lion and Mountain Lion. I've exhausted what little Unix I know with killall commands and I'm tired of shooting in the dark, trying solutions that work for some people but haven't worked at all for me.
I'm not a new user. I've been using Macs since the first Macs came out, so I know how to click the lock to change my preferences. It's not my keychain as I've already done repairs on that. I've restarted every time I tried something new, but that didn't help. The fixes that I've read people have tried and found success with are not consistent and none of them have worked for me.
I'm just guessing but in my opinion, the most likely reason for this is that something has gone horribly wrong with my permissions. I'm just not sure how to fix that, assuming my permissions are even the problem. And since everything was fine until I upgraded to Maverick, my best guess is that it happened during my last system update. It would explain why sometimes the fixes people are trying work and sometimes they don't. Maybe the update changed different settings for my Mac than the people who've fixed their issue had. I'd love to know if anyone else noticed that the problem started right after a system update, particularly since it's also happening to people who are using older OS versions before Maverick.
But more than that, what I REALLY want to know is how to fix this. I don't want to keep randomly trying stuff. I need a good, clean fix. Since none of the Apple experts here seem to have any idea as to even why this is happening, much less how to solve the problem, I can only conclude that THIS HAS TO BE A BUG and the only fix is yet another system update that patches whatever is making this lock thing happen. Could it be an installer issue that's fouling things up? Could it be a problem with the App Store's delivery of the updates? I sure hope somebody finds a solution real soon, because while I can't unlock my prefs, at least they're locked. I really feel bad for the people who can't lock theirs. I really believe that the two problems are related.
CAN ANYBODY TELL ME WITH ANY CERTAINTY HOW TO FIX THIS AND WHAT TO DO TO KEEP IT FROM HAPPENING AGAIN?!!!

I have the same issue. Just after a restart, everything works but after few minutes, the issue comes back.
Moreover, when I try to switch to another user account, a white screen appears without the possibility to do anything else than using the power button to shut it off.
I hope a fix will come faster.

Unlock Keychain

When I am in Safari I get a popup that says UNLOCK KEYCHAIN and then in the popup window it says Enter Keychain Password. I don't know my keychain password, and sadly, I don't know what a keychain is. I just click cancel and then it pops up again and I click cancel again and then it goes away (and pops up again every 10 minutes or so). How can I make it stop!

It seems that your Keychain settings have been changed. Keychain (Applications > Utilities > Keychain Access) manages the passwords on your Mac. The fact that it keeps asking for a password could mean that your Keychain has been set to lock after a short period of inactivity.
Unfortunately to fix the problem you would need to know your password but, if you didn't set a system password it could just be that your can leave the field blank and press enter.
You should be careful when using this utility as you could do more harm than good. If you feel you are in over your head best if you can get some help from an experienced user.

Annoying "unlock keychain" message

Whenever I use safari it periodically interrupts asking me to unlock keychain by entering a password. I have turned off all keychains as far as I can tell, and all I need to do is hit "cancel" and it goes away, but then if I am surfing pages it will come back. Is this some kind of annoying Safari virus? It obviously does not require a keychain password because it goes away when I hit cancel, and I had turned off all keychains anyway. It does not stop me from doing what I want to do but it is annoying. Any ideas to get rid of it?

Sounds as if iKeychain Access, wants to use a password for a site you
might have autofill turned on for. Do you have Autofill enabled if yes
deselect it and see if that helps. Or unlock keychain access so that it
maybe accessed by the site. Check in autofill "edit" button and see if there
any site you might want delete from using User names & passwords
or Other forms

If you lock a row in the course of a transaction, you cannot unlock the row until the end of transaction (either rollback or commit). DBMS doesn't allow this.
Alternatively, you can try to delay locking of the row. E.g., you can try using optimistic locking. Please see the Java Doc for oracle.jbo.Transaction if you're interested in optimistic locking.

No, because the AT&T model doesn't have the CDMA radios for the voice network that Verizon Wireless uses. The data probably won't work either because AT&T and Verizon Wireless uses different frequencies for their data networks.

Is there a lock symbol at the top of the screen next to the battery indicator ? If there is, then depending on what you've got Settings > General > Use Side Switch To set to (rotation lock or mute notifications), then you can lock/unlock the rotation by the switch on the right hand side of the iPad, or via the taskbar : double-click the home button; slide from the left; and it's the icon far left; press home again to exit the taskbar. ‘iPad is disabled’ fix without resetting using iTunes
Today I met my match with an iPad that had a passcode entered too many times, resulting in it displaying the message ‘iPad is disabled – Connect to iTunes’. This was a student iPad and since they use Notability for most of their work there was a chance that her files were not all backed up to the cloud. I really wanted to just re-activate the iPad instead of totally resetting it back to our default image.
I reached out to my PLN on Twitter and had some help from a few people through retweets and a couple of clarification tweets. I love that so many are willing to help out so quickly. Through this I also learned that I look like Lt. Riker from Star Trek (thanks @FillineMachine).
Through some trial and error (and a little sheer luck), I was able to reactivate the iPad without loosing any data. Note, this will only work on the computer it last synced with. Here’s how:
1. Configurator is useless in reactivating a locked iPad. You will only be able to completely reformat the iPad using Configurator. If that’s ok with you, go for it – otherwise don’t waste your time trying to figure it out.
2. Open iTunes with the iPad disconnected.
3. Connect the iPad to the computer and wait for it to show up in the devices section in iTunes.
4. Click on the iPad name when it appears and you will be given the option to restore a backup or setup as a new iPad (since it is locked).
5. Click ‘Setup as new iPad’ and then click restore.
6. The iPad will start backing up before it does the full restore and sync. CANCEL THE BACKUP IMMEDIATELY. You do this by clicking the small x in the status window in iTunes.
7. When the backup cancels, it immediately starts syncing – cancel this as well using the same small x in the iTunes status window.
8. The first stage in the restore process unlocks the iPad, you are basically just canceling out the restore process as soon as it reactivates the iPad.
If done correctly, you will experience no data loss and the result will be a reactivated iPad. I have now tried this with about 5 iPads that were locked identically by students and each time it worked like a charm.

You do not have to restore as new. You can restore fom backup since the screen-lock passcode isnot in the backup. ALso, if iTunes asks for the passcode andyu can't enter the passcode place the iPod in recovery mode and then restore. For recovery mode:

Try a Reset of the Phone... You will Not Lose Any Data...
Turn the Phone Off...
Press and Hold the Sleep/Wake Button and the Home Button at the Same Time...
The Apple logo will Appear and then Disappear...
Usually takes about 10 - 15 Seconds...
Turn the Phone On...
