Can't unlock screensaver

I use a locking screen saver to conform to corporate security policy. Once in a while when I open my PowerBook, I find myself faced with a different Authenticate window than normal. The full text of the window is:
    You must authenticate to unlock the screen. Type
    an administrator's name and password to make
    changes to Mac OS X.
    Name: [       ]
    Password: [       ]
There is also a Details button that reveals the following when pressed:
    Requested right: system.login.screensaver
    Application: loginwindow
Unfortunately, nothing I can do will let me past that window other than forcibly rebooting the system with the power switch. My regular login is also administrator (shame on me, a security professional), yet neither my short name nor my long name works, nor does "root" with the root password.
I have not been able to find any reference to this problem by googling the text of the message nor by searching in any of these forum topics.
Please offer suggestions. I hate hard rebooting my machine.

I own a vintage "LC II" (a.k.a. "Macintosh Performa 400") with System 7.x installed years ago. Unfortunately I am not able to login to this baby anymore, because after the initial boot screensaver will fireup and lock the screen with a password.

You can get through 7.5.3 at no charge and the updaters to 7.5.5 are also there. I beleive you must get the files to a Mac with a floppy drive that recognizes low-density disks to make the startup floppies. I bet Grant remembers better than I do.

If you lock a row in the course of a transaction, you cannot unlock the row until the end of transaction (either rollback or commit). DBMS doesn't allow this.
Alternatively, you can try to delay locking of the row. E.g., you can try using optimistic locking. Please see the Java Doc for oracle.jbo.Transaction if you're interested in optimistic locking.

No, because the AT&T model doesn't have the CDMA radios for the voice network that Verizon Wireless uses. The data probably won't work either because AT&T and Verizon Wireless uses different frequencies for their data networks.

Is there a lock symbol at the top of the screen next to the battery indicator ? If there is, then depending on what you've got Settings > General > Use Side Switch To set to (rotation lock or mute notifications), then you can lock/unlock the rotation by the switch on the right hand side of the iPad, or via the taskbar : double-click the home button; slide from the left; and it's the icon far left; press home again to exit the taskbar. ‘iPad is disabled’ fix without resetting using iTunes
Today I met my match with an iPad that had a passcode entered too many times, resulting in it displaying the message ‘iPad is disabled – Connect to iTunes’. This was a student iPad and since they use Notability for most of their work there was a chance that her files were not all backed up to the cloud. I really wanted to just re-activate the iPad instead of totally resetting it back to our default image.
I reached out to my PLN on Twitter and had some help from a few people through retweets and a couple of clarification tweets. I love that so many are willing to help out so quickly. Through this I also learned that I look like Lt. Riker from Star Trek (thanks @FillineMachine).
Through some trial and error (and a little sheer luck), I was able to reactivate the iPad without loosing any data. Note, this will only work on the computer it last synced with. Here’s how:
1. Configurator is useless in reactivating a locked iPad. You will only be able to completely reformat the iPad using Configurator. If that’s ok with you, go for it – otherwise don’t waste your time trying to figure it out.
2. Open iTunes with the iPad disconnected.
3. Connect the iPad to the computer and wait for it to show up in the devices section in iTunes.
4. Click on the iPad name when it appears and you will be given the option to restore a backup or setup as a new iPad (since it is locked).
5. Click ‘Setup as new iPad’ and then click restore.
6. The iPad will start backing up before it does the full restore and sync. CANCEL THE BACKUP IMMEDIATELY. You do this by clicking the small x in the status window in iTunes.
7. When the backup cancels, it immediately starts syncing – cancel this as well using the same small x in the iTunes status window.
8. The first stage in the restore process unlocks the iPad, you are basically just canceling out the restore process as soon as it reactivates the iPad.
If done correctly, you will experience no data loss and the result will be a reactivated iPad. I have now tried this with about 5 iPads that were locked identically by students and each time it worked like a charm.

You do not have to restore as new. You can restore fom backup since the screen-lock passcode isnot in the backup. ALso, if iTunes asks for the passcode andyu can't enter the passcode place the iPod in recovery mode and then restore. For recovery mode:

Try a Reset of the Phone... You will Not Lose Any Data...
Turn the Phone Off...
Press and Hold the Sleep/Wake Button and the Home Button at the Same Time...
The Apple logo will Appear and then Disappear...
Usually takes about 10 - 15 Seconds...
Turn the Phone On...

No, you can't unlock it from the computer. If you previously synced it to a different computer, and you still have that, it won't ask for a passcode on that one.

Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.
