Can't update after installing Lion

Greetings,
After experiencing problems with safari (not loading sites) I checked for updates. I started Software Update and:
Took steps through network diagnostics:
I tried it a couple of times.
My iPad works ok, firefox as browser too.
Any solution to this problem?
* (late 2008 MBP)
Thanks!

Still I'm puzzled.
In Safari the blue loading address bar stays put at appr. 10%. I have this page up now for about 8 hrs. When i click the "reload current page" button, the address disapears, bar gets blank.
I get this message when starting-up system:
Been searching Java runtime on the web to download manually, but found the only way to install is by "Software Update". My system is up to date. ISP: Optus Mobile Broadband (AU)
Firefox as browser works.
Accessing iTunes isn't possible too, keeps loading.

Install or Reinstall Yosemite, Mavericks, Mountain Lion, or Lion from Scratch
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
How to Clean Install OS X Yosemite
OS X Mavericks- Erase and reinstall OS X
OS X Mountain Lion- Erase and reinstall OS X
OS X Lion- Erase and reinstall Mac OS X
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible

  • I can't restart after installing Lion!

I have just installed Lion onto my iMac (Intel 2.4). My computer now starts up, but as soon as I log into any user accounts, the screen greys out and a message appears saying that my computer has encountered a problem. It then goes on to say that I need to hold down the power button to shut my computer down and then to restart. I have tried this multiple times and it just does the same every time. I have zapped the PRAM (several times) and this makes no difference. Has anybody else encounteres such a problem, and if so, have they managed to resolve it.
I have loaded the Snow Leopard disc into the drive to reinstall it and it now tells me I can't boot from my hard drive. Please help. All suggestions gratefully received.
I have installed Lion onto a MacBook Pro with the same processor as my iMac and it works fine.

Same for me. I can't even find the guest user.
So I called the Apple Hotline.
They recommanded a restart while pressing CMD+R, then going to Utilities/Terminal and gave a line of command.
The first hotliner, asked me to type resetpassword. Then it gave me access to at least, the root account. But as you can imagine, no way to find the previous accounts.
Second call to the hotline, same procedure, but an other line of command: /user/sbin/resetpassword.
    Still didn't work.
Right now, I'm back to Snow, and I'll attempt another call as soon as I gain some extra stamina.

  • My system preference, powner off, restart disappeared after installing lion twice! Anybody can help?

After installing Lion on my Imac, the System Preference option in the apple menu (Apple sign on top left side of desktop) has disappeared. In addition, the power off, restart options are gone too. I have reinstalled the Lion twice but the problem hasn't been resolved yet. This is happening when I am logged into adm. user. In other users account, the menu seems to be ok. Any suggestions or recommendation to help me fix this issue?

Let me clarify the issue again:
A number of items have gone missing from my apple menu: Software Update, System Preference, Dock, Recent, Restart, and Shut Down are gone.
All that's left are About, Location, Force Quit, Sleep, and Log Out. Can anybody help?

  • How to update PowerPC apps after installing Lion OS X?

I need to update my PowerPC apps after installing Lion OS X, and if not find a way to run them on Lion using a patch, emulator, converter or otherwise? All help appreciated, thanks for reading. Please note, I do not curretny have a hard-copy of Lion or Snow Leopard.
I feel Apple has really let its users down by creating all these compatiblity problems. Myself along ith many other Mac users have to spend valuable time and money, which we won't get back just trying tto find solutions to these problems. It really does lower my opinion of Apple.

Use your System Discs you got with your computer and return your system to it's previous state with your last Time Machine Backup. If you were on Snow Leopard and have lost your discs then ring Apple and you can probably get a replacement set for a nominal fee.
    Good Luck

My Mac won't mount my external HDD after installing Lion - What can I do?
HDD: Verbatim 3.5'' External HDD  eSATA & USB 2.0 #48802
I can not find it in Disc Utilities - so I can not repair it.
I also haven't found any Driver for the HDD to do an update.
My Mac is running on the most recent updates of OS Lion.
The HDD worked before. It contains my former Time-Mashine Backups. I would like to use this drive again. It isn't very old yet.
It would be much appreciated if anyone could help.
    Cheers,
    Yves

OK, try restarting in Safe Mode and if that doesn't work try resetting the SMC and PRAM.
    SMC RESET
    Shut down the computer.
Unplug the computer's power cord and ALL peripherals.
    Wait 15 seconds.
    Attach the computers power cable.
Wait another 5 seconds and press the power button to turn on the computer.
    PRAM RESET
    Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.

Are your refering to the printer driver software? You'll need to go to HP's site and see if they have updated drives for Lion for your printer model. There site might also have oter useful information regardsing using this printer with Lion.

Is there a way to darken the dates (numbers) on the ICal calender. I can barely read mine after installing Lion.

I should note that the time stays on the left of the event name when I re-enter the text (which I had to do all the time before I found the "show event times" button) so I feel like there's a way.

  • Although I am new to mac, I am not new to computers and purchasing online.  I can't sign into the App store after installing Lion.  I have had to change my password 4 times in 2 days .  I am so sick of this.  I am trying to buy a tutorial for Lion.

I recently downloaded Lion and since have had nothing but problems with my new i-Mac.  My problem with the App store is only one issue.  Has anyone out there had any trouble with their components after installing Lion 10.7???????   After several hours on the phone with a tech my situation isn't any better.  I think the tech is sick of talking with me.  He was supposed to call me today and the phone never rang.   He told me he was working on something to repair my problems and needed to talk with engineers.  How long could that take????   If it wouldn't hurt the person who gifted me this i-Mac, I would give it back.

  • After installing Lion I can't I boot from the Techtools CD.

After installing Lion I can't I boot from the Techtools CD. I have purchased the upgrade for Photoshop CS5 because CS2 does not launch in Lion 10.7.3. However I need to get the serial number for CS2 for the upgrade. I have waited over 30 minutes for the boot but never get more than the Apple logo. Any ideas anyone?

Boot disks can't change when the firmware changes, lock you out.
Techtools obviously uses Linux as a boot OS, so you need a Lion version.

  • How can I return back to OSx after installing Lion?

I'm disappointed. After installing Lion, everything is slower. The best thing I had last year was my new MacBook Pro, because everything was fast.. (sleep, opening programs, multitasking...etc) Now, everything takes forever. How can I return back to OSx?

    Downgrade Lion to Snow Leopard
    1.  Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button.  When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Quit DU and return to the installer. Install Snow Leopard.
This will erase the whole drive so be sure to backup your files if you don't have a backup already. If you have performed a TM backup using Lion be aware that you cannot restore from that backup in Snow Leopard. I suggest you make a separate backup using Carbon Copy Cloner 3.4.1.

  • After installing Lion, can't open Quark files?

Can't open Quark files after installing Lion.
It says "You can't open the application QuarkXpress because Power PC applications are no longer supported."
    What does that mean???
    Thanks!

    Hi Lisa,
you must be using an older version of QuarkXPress.
QuarkXPress 7.01 (and higher) and 8.x are Universal Binary, so can run natively on both PowerPC-based Macs as well as Intel-based Macs. QuarkXPress 9 (9.1 is current) is an Intel-only application. So theoretically you need to use at least 7.01.
However since version 9.1 QuarkXPress is officially supported on Lion, so Version 9 is probably your best option on OS X 10.7.x.
    Thanks
    Matthias
