Can't update apps in iPad

Hey gang. I've got an iPad 3 running iOS 7.0.3. All of a sudden, when I click "Update" on any app in the app store in the Updates section, it opens the app (just the "Open" button for apps that have already been updated. I've relaunched the App Store app, I've rebooted my iPad, I recently completely reset my iPad and it was working fine up until a day or so ago. PLEASE help, this is absurd. And the answer can't be update to iOS8 because I've gathered that's a gamble on an iPad 3.
All help appreciated, thanks, Dan P.

1. Check iTunes and see if you have a pending/stalled download e.g. Podcast, Books, Music, Movies or iTune U. Finish off the download and you should be able to update.
If the above doesn't work:
2. Connect to iTune; and Check for available download (under Store). When download is completed, sync to iPad.

  • Can't update apps on IPad 2

Ever since I updated my IPad 2 to the new IOS 6, I can't update about 9 of my apps! Some apps update, while others say "cannot connect to the ITunes Store". I have tried everything short of restoring it! Help!

    Saw this on another post.
Applecare Senior Advisor Txx Bxxx (I have his contact info in an email he just sent) just confirmed with me that the problem people are having with the App Store not loading is an apple issue with there servers, ITS NOT YOUR IPAD so don't go restoring it!   It's not happening to everyone however but they are looking into it, its really hit or miss.

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
This works for some users. Not sure why.
Go to Settings>General>Date and Time> Set Automatically>Off. Set the date ahead by about a year. Then see if you can connect to the store.

  • Can't update apps anymore iPad 2 iOS 7.0.4

Hello, I discovered today that I am no longer able to update apps on my iPad 2 running iOS 7.0.4.  I have 10 updates listed in the app store, but if I touch the "Update" icon, it launches the app instead of updating it.  Quite frustrating.  I tried powering down and rebooting but it didn't help.  I saw there is a similar issue relating to iOS 8 and the WSJ app but I am running iOS 7 and I do not have the WSJ app.

I'm posting to keep this conversation going, with hopes of Apple picking up on this issue.
Apple doesn't track issues on this website, as this is SOLELY a forum for "users helping other users". You won't find any Apple Support here or Apple Support interaction with you or the tracking of support issues. It's a big mistake to think this is the place to do that. Here is where you do that ...
    Apple Support
    http://www.apple.com/support/
Apple Retail Store - Genius Bar
    http://www.apple.com/retail/geniusbar/
    Product Feedback
    https://www.apple.com/feedback/
The last link is just for "feedback" (where you say something like ... "include this new feature in there, I would like it"). You will not get any return reply from this. The other links ARE Apple Support and when you open a ticket there, Apple DOES track issues and works on them from these trouble tickets. Do that if you want Apple to "hear you" about an issue you're having.
FYI - posting work-arounds for this issue, while your help IS appreciated, it is nevertheless besides the point. We shell out extra dough for Apple products and, personally, I expect them to work! If I wanted to bothered with a bunch of work-arounds, there are plenty of smartphones on the market that would save me a lot money. I want to hit the "Update All" button, put my iPhone down and finish what I was doing!
When there is an issue that "is" a "bug" in the iOS, then Apple will be issuing "fixes" on it. BUT ... keep in mind ... just because you have some kind of trouble ... that trouble doesn't mean it's a bug with the iOS 8. Many problems have been fixed because there is "trash" in the system files and people have cleared them out, and there is no problem after that. A corrupted file on your machine is not a "bug" that Apple fixes. Having said that ... "IF" it is a bug, then you can be assured that Apple has the engineers working on it for the next bug fix release. SO ... that means you should report the problem (so Apple can track it for their engineers) and then you should take advantage of a "work-around" in the meantime, until that bug fix comes out. But, once again not every problem is a "bug" ... keep that in mind.

  • Can't update apps.  Ipad asking for password to old email address

I I'd updated my email address several months ago.  The App Store app worked fine.  Now all of a sudden it's asking me to log in using the old email address and wants the old password.  In settings for both the App Store and iTunes are correct.  I can sign out and sign in from the settings menu but cannot update my apps through the App Store app itself.  This just started today.  How do I fix this?

IIf you got the app with your old email you can not change it, you need to update it with your old one. If you get any app with one email you can only use one email. Even if you log into your new email from itunes( scroll under and click on the email and sign out and log in with new email) it still won't let you do it with your other email. Sorry. You can not use different emails for some things.      You can go to settings-iTunes and AppStore- update apps( it means it will automatically update apps) it does work, but uses a lot of battery usage. I hve had it on for a long time but I don't mind.   hope this helped.

  • Can't update apps on iPad 3

A week ago I tried to update the three applications at the same time, but they are still stuck in ’waiting’. I can't neither open them, nor delete them, nor update them.
I tried a lot of suggested on forums tricks, including rebooting the iPad, logout from App Store and even resetting all the settings, but nothing helped. I also don't have any stuck downloads in iTunes as you may suggest (actually I don't use it at all because I don't have Mac or PC).
Now I have 10 other apps to update, but I don't try to update them because I don't want to lose access to them as well.

The stuck downloads that are often referred to in iTunes are stuck downloads in iTunes on the iPad. Having a computer has nothing to do with that issue at all - other than if you had a computer running iTunes - you could finish the downloads on the computer and sync to the iPad.
So .... Check iTunes on your iPad and look for a stalled download, a song, TV Show ... Whatever. Look in iBooks as well for anything that might have stalled when downloading.

  • Can't update apps on iPad

Starting sometime last week, my iPad Mini shows updates available badge on the App Store App icon, but when I launch the App Store app, the updates page just shows blank. I have the same problem on an iPad2, but not on my iPhone. Anybody else having this problem?

The update server is down; try this temporary workaround
    App Store>Purchased>Select "All"
Note: Look out for apps that have the word "Update"

  • HT204266 changed email but doesn't show up to login on ipad so I can't update apps

changed email but doesn't show up to login on ipad so I can't update apps. Any solution?

As long as you didn't create a new ID and merely changed the email address that you use for your Apple ID - go to Settings>iTunes and App Store. Tap your old ID and sign out. Then sign in with the changed ID.
If you created a new ID, you need to continue to use the old ID in order to update apps since purchases are always tied to the ID used to make the purchase.

Can I update/upgrade my ipad model # MB292C? I find that many of the apps, such as games I have downloaded require a higher ios and won't update on my ipad.

From what I could find, that is an iPad 1. You can only update to iOS 5.1.1. You can do that on your computer. It may be time to look for a newer iPad as the apps now are set to use iOS 7.0.4.

  • Ipad ll - Can't update apps or view videos

Can't update apps or view videos after downloading several podcasts. When I look at podcasts downloaded in ITunes it shows all the items that I selected and says that it is  "processing" the first item and seems to be hung up or locked up - the same thing happens when I attempt to update an App - it shows waiting but never completes. I have expanded my screen timeout, but to no avail. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Can not Update App Because Never "Owned Major Version"  I never owned any version.  It just appeared and now I cannot get rid of it.

I cannot delete it with the X because it was never on my phone in the first place.  It doesn't show up when I hook it up to Itunes.  And it doesn't show up on my ipad.  The app is MotionXGPS.  Is it a virus?  Thanks.

Same here. Just becoming a nightmare. Updated iTunes and now can't update apps it itself is showing as available updates. Count me in on the latest "You can not update this software since you have not owned the major version of this software." bug.
Next I have to post about a new problem in iPhoto on a new thread.... it lost the "link" between some but not all photos I have in the library and what it itself posted to FaceBook a few hours ago...
    Incredibly frustrating.

  • Can you update apps when connected to itunes on laptop?

can you update apps when connected to itunes on laptop?

Yes. You can download the updates to the apps in iTunes and then sync them to the iPad while the iPad is connected to your computer. I did that last night because I had so many large app updates to do - apps that were 250MB up to 650MB in size - and it just made more sense to me to do it that way.

  • Multiple issue: Newly created passwords don't work/ can't update apps.

My issue is more with my apple i.d. than with my devices, which are an ipad 3 and an iphone 4 (will be upgrading soon).  A few weeks ago, an icloud message popped up asking for my password.  When I entered my password, it didn't work.  I tried my password in several other places and it wasn't working, so I went into iForgot and changed it.  It still wasn't working, so I tried changing it again, still no luck.  This cycle continued for some time, recreating my apple id password over and over.  I am using the same apple i.d. that I was before, but I had to change my gamecenter id, losing access to some games.  My biggest concern is that I can get into the app store to see my account, but I can't update apps on either device.  It doesn't say that I have the incorrect password, try again.  It just does nothing.  When I look at my account settings, I see that there is a password already in place (a previous password, can't see the digits, only the number of characters), but it is not the new one I created.  When I try to put mine in it just reverts back to the old password, still leaving me unable to update my apps.  About a week after this started, my wife and I noticed a dollar charge to our itunes account that we didn't do, we investigated and found out that my itunes account had been hacked.  Apparently, the scam works when a small charge goes through and then once it does, much more is spent on itunes.  I took my card off file and am waiting to get my apps updated, before I enter a new one.  There are numerous issues happening and I'm not really sure where to begin.  Any suggestions would be helpful.
