Can't update Apps. Wants me to verify old Apple ID that no longer exists.

This is really annoying. . . I go to update my apps in my iPad & iPhone but when I go "Update All" it asks me to sign in with my old Apple ID (that email address no longer exists).  Even if I put in the old password associated with that old ID it tells me I need to verify that Apple ID and that an email has been sent to that old email address (that no longer exists!).  It's crazy as I have not used that address for years and two years ago I associated that old ID with my new email address, but I couldn't change my Apple ID to reflect my new email address so it just kept the old address but my receipts were being sent to the new email address. .. confusing, but it worked.  Now I have a @me.com address and an Apple ID that utilises my @me.com account, but even when I sign out of iTunes/App Store and sign back in with my new Apple ID, I cannot update apps. . . I can purchase news apps, but I can't update anything.
I'd really like some help here.  I have gone to the Apple ID webpage and tried to log in to the old address in order to delete it or whatever but when I do it says it is trying to verify that email address (which it can't as it no longer exists), so when I option to put in another email address for it to send the verification to (my @me.com account) it says "You cannot create an Apple ID using a MobileMe account. If this is your email address, it is also your Apple ID.". . . . . yes, I know that is my Apple ID. . . that;s the one I want to use.  If anyone can tell me how to get rid of the old Apple ID/email address I'd be very grateful.

I appreciate exactly where you're coming from.  I've been fighting a similar battle for some six months now and I've finally given up.  The problem is that, contrary to the semantics on the Apple ID management page, your up-to-date email address is not the primary address.  The ID name is the primary address and what's alleged to be primary is actually secondary.  I learned this the hard way when I was trying to fix an issue with a very old ID that did NOT have an email address as a name.  I changed to to reflect the (old) address and I made matters worse and I can't go back!
In my case, I have a whole slew of free apps on the old ID and maybe US$40 or US$50 worth of paid apps.  Little by little I'm deleting the free apps and obtaining them again with the current ID.  When I finish that, I'll probably bite the bullet and pay again for the other apps.

  • OSX updates, but one of the updates (iPhoto 9.4.3) asks for Apple ID that no longer exist?

    Like topic.
OSX announced that there was available software updates, I started App Store and selected "Update all". OSX carried out the OSX update aswell as a few other updates, but left the iPhoto update.
When I manually try to update iPhoto, App Store give me the message "There is updates available for other accounts. Log in with [email protected] if you wish to update the program" (translated from swedish, so it might not be a 100% accurate to the english text).
The Apple ID that's on display is a Apple ID that used to belong to one of my former employees. The Apple ID is no more, it's deleted and the mailadress (not a me.com adress) that is the actual Apple ID is also deleted and not existing.
Furthermore, the update has greyed out the Apple ID, it's not possible for me to choose another for this particular update which seems very weird, any ideas?
    Oh, if it's to any assistance I'm on a 2012 MB Pro, 2,6 GHz Intel Core i7, 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3, OSX 10.8.3

  • My iphone 5 wont let me update apps keeps popping up with old apple id how do i fix this

my iphone 5 wont let me update apps keeps popping up with old apple id how do i fix this??

All apps downloaded/purchased are tied to the apple ID used to download/purchase them.
If you change your Apple ID and do not wish to use the old apple ID and password to update them, you have to delete them and redownload or buy them under the new apple ID.

  • HT204053 I cannot access the app store because it wants to access an @me Apple ID that no longer works. How do I eliminate this ID so I can access apps?aid

I cannot access the app store because the iPad is requesting a password to an Apple ID that does not exist. The app store seems to be using an @me iCloud address as the Apple ID. This is not my ID or email addresses. How can this be changed to my Apple ID?

Easy, just sign out then back in again.

I recently purchased a new Iphone 5c and gave my 4s to my husband to use.  However an old email address of mine keeps popping up that no longer exists and I don't know what the password was

The problem is covered in the above links. Unless you know the Apple ID and password used to set up the Find My Phone lock originally, then the phone is useless. If you have proof of ownership and that you are the original purchaser, then you can ask Apple to release it from the activation lock.

  • Can't update apps.  I have reset my Apple ID to my new e mail address but when I try to download or update apps. my old, no longer functioning one, automatically comes up asking me for a password, which I don't know and can't have sent to that ID!

I used to have my old work e mail address as my Apple ID but have now changed it to my new one, had all of the verification e mails and everything.  However, when I try to download or update my apps, my original ID comes up and I can't log in.  Can't remember my original passowrd and can't have a reminder sent to the original e mail as it no longer exists.....  help!

Any content is tied to the account that you used to buy/download it - so if you created a new account as opposed to updating the existing one, then you will need to use the old account to download updates to its apps. Can you not update your old account so as to have a new email address on it (e.g. via this page) ?

  • MacBook Pro:  I have changed my old apple id address but cannot now update apps as it sees my old apple id name as the primary holder.  I decided to edit back to the old apple id but it won't allow me to do so. What else can I do?

MacBook Pro:  I have changed my old apple ID address but cannot update apps now as it still reverts to my old ID address as the primary holder (it is the apple ID that I have purchased the apps, etc).  I have tried to edit back to the old address but it will not let me type in the address and there is no blue edit sign on the rhs.  What can I do to rectify this problem?.  Is there a waiting period after editing an apple ID address? I have spent the good part of yesterday searching the net and know that there is a major problem with this but wondering if anyone has found a solution.  Thank you.

    Hello Jamcef,
Thank you for the question.  Use these steps to change the Apple ID signed into the iTunes Store:
Sign in with a different Apple ID
Tap Settings > iTunes & App Stores.
    Tap your Apple ID.
If you see the option to Sign In, you can change your Apple ID now.
    Tap Sign Out.
Enter your Apple ID and Password and tap Sign In.
Or if you don't have another Apple ID, tap Create New Apple ID.

I'm not sure where you are seeing the prompt for your older Apple ID, but there are several articles about changing the ID.

  • Unable to use updated AppleID so can't update apps

Hi there, I am having trouble updating apps in my app store.
    1) I had an old email address that no longer exists as an Apple ID. About 3 months ago, I went into the same account and simply changed the AppleID AND email address to my new email address. The change of name and seems to be accepted everywhere on my Mac. Everything I had access to before, I still have access to. So same accounts just different names. I have done numerous updates using the updated AppleID that is tied to the same old account.
    2) Today I see another round of updates in the App Store, and I am unable to change the Apple ID's when it asks for confirmation. Even when I signout then sign-in again with the new/updated ID, when I click on updates, a screen pops up asking for confirmation of my username and password. The problem is it displays my old username and I cannot change it to my new one. It is simply grayed out.
Again, I have signed in with the updated name, have done updates before with this, and look to be currently signed in with the new username, I just simply don't know how to change the AppleID in the the confirmation
My end goal is simply updating these apps now and in the future should this ever happen again.

    Hi KrtrKpr,
If you are having an issue with applications on your iPhone being stuck in the middle of an update, I would suggest that your restart the iPhone. See this article -
Turn your iOS device off and on (restart) and reset

    Hi Jamjoint,
Welcome to the Apple Support Community!
It sounds like your Apple ID is used for both the iTunes & App Stores and iCloud. If you edited that Apple ID before signing out of the iCloud on your devices, it may be necessary to edit the Apple ID back to the original email account so that you can sign out of iCloud. Once signed out, you can edit the Apple ID back to the new email account and sign back in. Please use the attached article for further information.
If you're asked for the password to your previous Apple ID when signing out of iCloud
    Change your Apple ID temporarily
If signing out and back in to iMessage or FaceTime didn't help, try these steps:
Change your Apple ID to the Apple ID you used previously. You shouldn't need to verify the email address.
Tap Settings > iCloud. Complete these steps only if the Find My [Device] setting is turned on:
Scroll down and tap Sign Out, then tap Sign Out to confirm. If you're using iOS 7 or earlier, tap Delete Account, then tap Delete to confirm.
Tap Keep on My [Device] or Delete from My [Device]. In either case, your data remains in iCloud and will be updated on your device when you sign in to iCloud again.
Enter the password for your previous Apple ID.
Change your Apple ID to the new email address that you want to use. You'll need to verify the email address.
Return to Settings > iCloud and sign in with your new Apple ID.
    Cheers,
    Joe

  • TS1702 When I try to update an App I am getting my old email address (which no longer works) and when I put in its password it says password or username is wrong. but it does not give me an option to put in my new user name. How can I correct this.

What you are getting is the AppleID (AppleID can be an email adress) used at the time of the purchase of this app.  It is an identifiant allowing Apple to link your purchase to your account.
If you want to manage associated email, you can go at https://appleid.apple.com but the AppleID could never be modified.
I do not know if in your case, it is just that you no longer use your old email address or that you actually a 2 AppleID.  In any case, you will have to remember the password related to the account used for your purchase.  If you don't, just use the link above to try to retreive your password.

  • I can't update apps on iPhone because of an old Apple ID.

I have a new apple Id and no longer have access
to my old one and I can't update apps on my iPhone because
the old apple ID pops up. I've added the new ID to my
Phone settings but it keeps popping up when I'm in
    the apps store. Any ideas?

First, you are digging up a thread that has been dead for almost a year. So you have no idea what the context of the ASC was at that time and what folks were posting over and over here.
Secondly if you spend just a little time on the ASC you will quickly learn that folks make random Apple ID accounts all of the time.
As far as the exact situation which you mention, you can change the primary email account associated with an Apple ID, without changing the ID, which is why I have an @mac.com Apple ID that uses an @gmail.com email address. And it was for the very reason you mention, I got the @mac.com account (accounts which pre-date @me.com by a number of years) for a free trial, but didn't feel that I wanted to pay $100 a year to use it after the trial period ended, but I had used the account during the trial to acquire a lot of Apple content that I did not wish to loose.

You can log out of the currently logged in account by taping on the id in Settings > Store (Settings > iTunes & App Stores on iOS 6) and you can then log back in.
If you updated your existing account with a new email address then that shoud 'refresh' it on it
If you created a new account then any content that you purchased/downloaded via the old account will remain tied to that old account, and only that old account can redownload its content and download updates to its apps. You should be able to update an account's email address via this page : http://appleid.apple.com

Apps are permanently tied to the Apple ID used to purchase them. You will have to delete the apps from the phone and re-purchase them using your Apple ID.
