Can't update firmware 1.6 on my mid 2011 Macbook Air

After I install this firmware, Macbook Air shows spinning icon forever and never reboot.  Only way to recover from there is to power off and reboot by aborting update.  Is there any clue on this?

Intel Core i7

DRAM 4 GB
Boot ROM version      MBA41.0077.B0F
SMC Version     1.73f63
OS X 10.8 (12A269)

Is this going to be an issue
As per Apple, no,  it will work.   however you should get the correct 45W charger.

  • Why can't my mid-2011 macbook air detect thunderbolt 1.2.1 update

    I'm using a 13 inches mid-2011 macbook air with OS X 10.7.4
on 12 June, I found the update of Thunderbolt 1.2 in the system update center and I patched it.
Luckliy, this patch didn't kill my kernel as it did to many other machines. But I'm still a bit worried when I learned that this updates messed up a lot of users' machines.
Now applle announces the newer version of thunderbolt 1.2.1 to correct what was wrong. But no matter how hard I try to check system updates, I don't have it.
I know I could try to download it on the website, but is there any valid reason that I don't get this patch? Will install in creating new problems?

Yes this should be the case but still I'm troubled.
It is the patch that I'm using (Thunderbolt 1.2) that actually causes the problem of kernel.
It doesn't happen on my machine but it did influence a lot of others.
I feel this version could be problematic, becuase the release note of Thunderbolt 1.2.1 says clearly (if I remember correctly) even if you have already installed 1.2 but haven't experienced any problem, you should still upgrade to the version 1.2.1.
But this version is not in the updating center and according to other users' reports, it is not compatible with the new Retina macbook pro... That brings even more doubt...
All in all, I just don't want my machine to stop working suddenly...

  • My mid-2011 MacBook Air bricks itself after 10.7.2 update

I have a new MacBook Air (11") that was working just great, until today.  Today, I used Software Update to install the updates, which included 10.7.2 as well as the recue partition update.
I did everything you're supposed to do, and when it rebooted, the gray screen comes up, and it shows the spinny doohickey on the bottom showing that it's working.  Then, suddenly, up pops a big "no" icon (the circle with the slash through it) after about 60 seconds.
It simply doesn't do anything after that.
Hard-power-off, wait, power-on, repeat, same thing.
So I reboot with cmd-R to get the rescue partition. It works fine; I ask it to re-install Mac OS X, which then takes about 45 minutes (argh).  Finally, Mac OS X is back, the machine is nicely booted up, all my files are there, everything is good.. But of course, the reinstall took me back to 10.7.1.
All I want to do is upgrade my fricking iPhone to IOS 5.0, but I can't do that without knowing I can sync which requires iCloud which of course requires 10.7.2.  So I *have* to re-do the upgrade.
Back to Software Update, back to installing 10.7.2. And .. 20 minutes later .. back to bricked MacBook Air.
What a waste of my time. What a failure, Apple. I'm very very very very very unhappy that I've wasted so much time just to update my damned iPhone to IOS 5. I'm still without an update. Now I'm trying to figure out how to move my iTunes to another machine -- not nearly as obvious as it should be.  ARGH. I'm going to throw this MacBook Air off the balcony in about 10 minutes. :-(
    Thanks for listening.

Wow, you're right -- I can't believe it. I just really can't believe they would screw up so badly, yet when I search for "10.7.2 filevault" I don't find more than a couple of articles about it on the web (including this thread). Why on earth wouldn't Apple have put up some kind of warning about this? I can't believe it, really. It's insane.
On my newly-functional 10.7.2 MBA, I wanted to test your theory and so I turned on filevault 2 and encrypted the main disk again.  It of course wanted me to reboot. So I rebooted. And *blammy* -- same error / boot failure.  Wow.  Also, interestingly, even on a working 10.7.2 system, you can't mount a USB drive that was encrypted using Filevault 2 encryption (in Disk Utility, e.g., as a "Mac OS X, journalled, encrypted" volume that was encrypted with DiskUtility on Lion 10.7.1).  I still have a 10.7.1 machine that I will not upgrade until I can at least decrypt the disk -- but right now, Disk Utility tells me it fails decrypting the external USB disk so I'm hosed!!! ARGH.
Now, going back to the booting problem after upgrade -- for anyone's reference who's still keeping score -- you can easily recover from the booting problem with upgrading a Filevault 2 root drive: Power-cycle the machine and then hold down cmd-r to bring up the Lion Recovery application.  Within Lion Recovery, choose "Disk Utility", and then click on the (as yet unmounted, still encrypted) root hard drive to select it. Then go to the File menu, and choose "Turn off encryption" for this disk.  It then prompts you for the password, and if you enter it, *blammy* you're back up and running again.
In my case, the disk had only just begun encrypting so the action was instant, and then once it confirmed the disk was now decrypted, I simply chose "Restart" from the Apple menu, and I was back in business (no hairy re-installs to deal with).  If this is an already-encrypted volume, presumably it'll take you a bit longer (the normal 45-minutes to 2 hours) to decrypt it.  But at least no more installing software -- it'll "just work".
Maybe I'll go post a simpler version of these instructinos on the other threads, but this is the simplest fix -- just turn off filevault 2 from within Lion Recovery, basically, and that fixes the boot problems.
Apple, if you're listening, you really really really need to say something to your users so they know. Many many many MBA users are likely to have still not upgraded. You can prevent them from hating you and your products by making sure they don't screw the pooch here.  Short version: Mid-2011 MacBook Airs running Filevault 2 WILL NOT BOOT after 10.7.2 update; so users should turn off Filevault2 before upgrading.

  • Can mid 2011 macbook air use early 2011 macbook pro's RAM?

I just upgraded my macbook pro's ram from 4gb to 8gb.
Can I put my stock early 2011 mbp's ram into a mid 2011 macbook air?

No. The MacBook Air's RAM isn't upgradable, except when configuring a model in the online Apple Store.

  • Mid 2011 macbook air. command key has popped off and is now missing the 2nd metal bar. can this be replaced?

The command key popped off my mid 2011 macbook air. It is meant to have two metal bars but can't find the 2nd one. I have clicked it back into place but if I press the button at the bottom the top pops up and I'm worried that if I don't fix the problem I may end up losing the key altogether!
Can you buy replacement metal bars? should I just remove the other bar completely?
    Thanks in advance.

Sorry, must have been the crackpipe I smoked last night! LOL
You won't see anything in the Application Support --> Bootcamp folder unless you have previously downloaded the Windows Support Software. Good find.
    ADDENDUM STEP:
This step should be placed between 9-10.
Open Bootcamp Assistant. Uncheck everything BUT, "DOWNLOAD THE LATEST WINDOWS SUPPORT SOFTWARE FROM APPLE". You will be prompted to burn the image to a CD/DVD or save to a USB Key. Save the image to a USB key. This will format your USB key properly in preparation for the files. The download commences and if you're lucky, the files will simply be saved to your USB key without having to manually copy them over to the key using the steps above.
IMPORTANT - Even if the support software hangs when its being saved to the USB key, you should now be able to navigate to the directory and see the image. Follow the steps above.
    Apologies for missing this.
    Best,
    WBN

  • Can you upgrade your mid 2011 macbook air ram?

Yes you can upgrade the ram of the mid 2011 macbook air, today I just asked an apple genius and they said they can but they cant do it in stores, they said it will cost approximately $200 but if you do it, it will be cheaper.

The guy also said that he upgraded his. He also asked other workers about upgrading the RAM and they said yes you can, but maybe he thought I was talking about a macbook pro. I think what he meant was to change the logic board.

  • Thunderbolt update for mid-2011 MacBook Air causes slowdowns and flickering?

So I've experienced not one problem since getting my mid-2011 MacBook Air.  After installing the Thunderbolt update that was pushed through Software Update the other day, I've noticed that when I go into Mission Control or App Expose it's more sluggish than it used to be.
Additionally, I saw my screen flicker several times - I have never seen this before.
Has anyone experienced similar problems since installing this update the other day when it came out?  I'm most concerned about the sluggishness of the screens.
    Thanks,
    BJC

I never installed it, it's popped up each time I've checked -- but today it wasn't offered in Software Update.  Odd.

  • Can my mid 2011 macbook air be upgraded to wifi 802.11ac?

Can my mid 2011 macbook air be upgraded to wifi 802.11ac? I am considering replacing my 802.11n router with the 802.11ac time capsule. Will this effect my download speed on my 802.11n macbook air (mid 2011)? can it be upgraded?

No, you cannot change the Wi-Fi hardware in your Mac. The Time Capsule is still worth it due to its ability to make backups of your Mac via Time Machine.

  • I have a mid 2011 macbook air and a new Apple TV but I can't mirror. What's the problem? I have checked display settings and I don't have the "allow mirroring" option there.

    What is the problem?

    About AirPlay and Airplay Mirroring
AirPlay Mirroring requires a second-generation Apple TV or later, and is supported on the following Mac models: iMac (Mid 2011 or newer), Mac mini (Mid 2011 or newer), MacBook Air (Mid 2011 or newer), and MacBook Pro (Early 2011 or newer). For non-qualifying Macs you can try using Air Parrot.

  • How do I return my mid 2011 MacBook Air to Factory Specifications? Can I use the built in Lion recovery and wipe my data from the hard disk by reformatting it?

I want to trade in my old mid 2011 MacBook Air for a new MacBook Pro. After I have transferred my data to the new MacBook Pro, how do I reformat the hard disk to wipe all my data and return it to Factory specifications? Will the built in Lion recovery allow me to do this? I am currently running OS X Yosemite. Has the upgrade to Yosemite damaged or removed the original Lion recovery partition?

  • I have mid 2011 macbook air with 10.7.5 and i can't upgrade to 10.9.1.

When i click download the purchased section always flashes and refreshes itself and it's not downloading the software. But in launchpad there is a mavericks icon which is says downloading but it's not counting the download rate.

İt's the file with 5.3 gb data and it's not even downloading any single data and after a while it says 'there is a problem with your internet connection' And that's so annoying.
By the way there is no direct download link in the internet so i'm stuck with this mac app store.
One more little issue: İn Turkey mac app store, iWork applications seems to be free in the top free section but they are 18$ actually.
Just like Interclik i was thinking that maybe it will be better when im not upgrade the software. But i need some applications that requires latest os x.

Can't update firmware on Officejet Pro 8610, Hp update site shows available firmware update needed, disabled firewall, shut off wireless, run program, window for update appears, but checkbox greyed out. • Zen Micro firmware CIRCLE -Can't update firmware w/out driver, can't update driver w/out firmwa

    Hi,
I know lots of peopl are having the same problem. I have a Zen Micro 5Gb. I have previously updated the firmware to the plays for sure (about 2 years ago) and it's been fine.
The device had had the hard dri've replaced after it failed, and I need to reload the firmware. I have all the files, I've read all the FAQ and support I used last time (I keep everything) and my notes from 2 years ago say it was easy.
However. Not now. I figure WMP caused a lot of problems. Right - got that out the way. Fresh installs of XP SP2 is the way to go.
I have also followed the instructions here:
    http://http://forums.creative.com/showthread.php?t=3478
But, I keep going round in circles. Can't update firmware without driver, can't update driver without firmware.
Any driver install I try asks me to connect the device to complete the installation, but, it won't recognise the device because there is no firmware. I try to upload the firmware, and it says there is no device (because there is no driver).
I have tried multiple machines, with SP2 installed and only WMP9 (never had WMP0).
I have tried USB , 2, hubs, front ports back ports, again on multiple machines.
I've even used an XP install on VMware on a MAC (This was the closest to success).
On the Mac, The player was recognised even in its flash problem state and I could actually start the firmware update. However, it failed to complete successfully.
Has anyone actually managed to do a firmware update on n old Zen using a 2008 PC? Please help!

If your player had PlaysForSure firmware, you'll need to download a PlaysForSure firmware version. That should resolve your issues since PlaysForSure does not use a Creative driver but rather a nati've Windows driver. But you will need to have WMP0 installed, WMP9 does not support PlaysForSure.

  • Can you install Adobe Creative Suite CS3 on a 2012 Macbook Air running Lion?

Can you install Adobe Creative Suite CS3 on a 2012 Macbook Air running Lion?

Are you talking about adobe creative cloud?
If you are, the Adobe Creative Cloud give you most of Adobe's tools (and all that most would need) to do anything.  I will warn you about this though, is that it is a subscription, and you are basically renting it.  that means you really do not own it.
About the hard disk space, all Adobe apps seem to take up at least a GB (and this does not matter if you get the master collection or the Creative Cloud).  so ether way, it will take some space.
Also, if you want to try-before-you-buy, you can go to creative.adobe.com, and get a free account and try out all of he adobe apps available for creative cloud.  The best part of it, your apps will be updated to CS7 (if or when it comes out) instead of buying the apps again in your subscriptions.  if you need even more information, you can go to adobe's site to find out more (www.adobe.com)
