Can't update firmware from 7.4.1 to 7.4.2

I have an AirPort Express with 802.11n, working fine. Every once in a while, AirPort Utility pops up and tells me that it found that AirPort Express and "This AirPort Express should be updated to a newer firmware version. Current Version: 7.4.1 Available Version: 7.4.2"
So, I click on Update Firmware... and it seems to do it - meaning that it takes a few minutes, reports success, and restarts the Airport Express.
BUT - when it comes back up, it is still showing that it is running 7.4.1.
What can I do to get 7.4.2 on this AirPort Express? What's wrong?
Thanks!

I write in this thread because I think my situation is related, even if a bit different.
I had many problems with the update of my Airport Express. It started noticing I had to update the firmware to the 7.4.2 and but I've never been able doing it. As it worked fine even with the permament notification I didn't thought it was a great problem.
Then I update my OS from the 10.4.10 to the 10.6 all in one and started having more problems with my Airport Express which was constantly asking to update to the 7.4.2 but it wasn't possible in any way.
I checked this page in the Apple support
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3486
and I updated the Utility Airport app to the 5.5.1 but it didn't help.
The worst level of problem is that I tried to link another two people (one with a mac 10.5 and one with a pc) to the wireless net and there was not access possibility.
After a reset of the airport the utility app was almost totally blocked and closed the access even from my mac notifing that my WAP password was incorrect.
At this time there are no ways to change this situation.
I'm trying to understand what's the real problem and - if someone has suggestions - how to solve it.

  • Zen Micro firmware CIRCLE -Can't update firmware w/out driver, can't update driver w/out firmwa

    Hi,
I know lots of peopl are having the same problem. I have a Zen Micro 5Gb. I have previously updated the firmware to the plays for sure (about 2 years ago) and it's been fine.
The device had had the hard dri've replaced after it failed, and I need to reload the firmware. I have all the files, I've read all the FAQ and support I used last time (I keep everything) and my notes from 2 years ago say it was easy.
However. Not now. I figure WMP caused a lot of problems. Right - got that out the way. Fresh installs of XP SP2 is the way to go.
I have also followed the instructions here:
    http://http://forums.creative.com/showthread.php?t=3478
But, I keep going round in circles. Can't update firmware without driver, can't update driver without firmware.
Any driver install I try asks me to connect the device to complete the installation, but, it won't recognise the device because there is no firmware. I try to upload the firmware, and it says there is no device (because there is no driver).
I have tried multiple machines, with SP2 installed and only WMP9 (never had WMP0).
I have tried USB , 2, hubs, front ports back ports, again on multiple machines.
I've even used an XP install on VMware on a MAC (This was the closest to success).
On the Mac, The player was recognised even in its flash problem state and I could actually start the firmware update. However, it failed to complete successfully.
Has anyone actually managed to do a firmware update on n old Zen using a 2008 PC? Please help!

If your player had PlaysForSure firmware, you'll need to download a PlaysForSure firmware version. That should resolve your issues since PlaysForSure does not use a Creative driver but rather a nati've Windows driver. But you will need to have WMP0 installed, WMP9 does not support PlaysForSure.

  • HT1237 I have a iMac8,1.  Am needing to update firmware from 10.5.8 to 10.6 or later.

I have an iMac 8,1.  Am needing to update firmware from 10.5.8 to at least 10.6 for new printer.  Help.

I'm afraid what you've asked about is not firmware. Rather it's OS X - the operating system.
    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mavericks if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s iCloud services; fees and
               terms apply.
Upgrading from Snow Leopard to Lion or Mavericks
To upgrade to Mavericks you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8, Lion, or Mountain Lion installed. Purchase and download Mavericks (Free) from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. The file is quite large, over 5 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
         OS X Mavericks- System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mavericks
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) — Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) —
                 Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) — Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.
    Are my applications compatible?
See App Compatibility Table — RoaringApps.
    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mavericks, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion at the Online Apple Store. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.

Can I update iPhoto from version 8.1.2 to 9 or higher versionfor free?

Is your profile signature "Mac OS X (10.6.8)" still current? With that MacOS X version you can upgrade to iPhoto 9.2.x. Only, the iPhoto version 9.5.1 currently sold at the AppStore requires MacOS X 10.9.x. If you you are not running Mavericks, you could try to buy a boxed retail version of iLife '11. That will have a compatible early iPhoto 9.x version.

  • Zen MicroPhoto or Micro stuck in Recovery Mode? Can't update firmware? Try this

I got these instructions from here:
    http://blog.opsan.com/archi've/2005/09/3/472.aspx
This is the only thing that worked for me to get my broken Zen MicroPhoto up and running again. It was stuck in Recovery Mode and my XP SP2/WMP laptop wouldn't recognize when trying to load firmware or in Creative Media Explorer or WMP.
To Fix any problems with broken firmware form attempted "playsforsure"
firmware updates etc where your pc finds it as a 20mb dri've and it sits
in recovery mode and does bugger all:
    1. Uninstall all creative software & drivers
    2. Uninstall Media Player and Media Player runtime (will require a
reboot for each thing). This is done by going to add/remove programs and
uninstalling (this will put your pc back to wmp0).
    3. Re-install the Zen Driver from the creative website and reboot (I just reloaded Media Explorer using my ZMP install CD).
    4, Plug Zen in.
5, Make sure you have the firmware update ready, run it but don't click
the language bit yet), leave the mouse hovering over your language
selection. (for ZMP, just start firmware exe file, there is no language selection. You can get the firmware update from Creative's site, go to SUPPORT and then DOWNLOADS).
    6. On the Zen- select "reload OS" (on ZMP I believe it is Erase or Reload Firmware, something like that, don't have it in front of me).
    7. As soon as it flashes up "reload new firmware now via USB" click the
    language button
    8. Now the pc should find it and allow you to re-load the
firmware. (it may take a few attempts)
    9. Once complete, click close and restart the pc. Everything should now
    be fine.
    0. Once all is working, you can re-install WMP and it will work fine.
    I hope this helps somebody.

  • Can't update firmware on WRT54G

I downloaded new firmware for my WRT54G. It currently has Firmaware version 1.00.60. The router was purchased at Best Buy for use with Vonage but I no longer use the phone part of the router.
I downloaded the latest firmware from the Linksys site (4.30.5), both the zip file and the EXE. Whenever I try to use the EXE file, it tells me it can't get a response from the server. I've tried resetting the login information to leave the username blank (I had set my own username) but the router says this filed cannot be left blank.
I tried to use the bin file but the instructions say to go to Administration and select the upgrade firmware option. There is no such option in my router. Is there any other way to force a firmware update?
Thanks for any ideas you might have.

Thanks for the pointers so far.
I just realized I gave the wrong product name before. I have a WRTP54G router set up for Vonage. I downloaded the firmware update for it, but the instructions say to use the GUI to load wrtp54g_fw_3.1.17_us.img. The router does not have an option to update the firmware in the Administration section. Do you know if the *.img file can also be loaded using ftp, just like the *.bin files for the WRT54G router?
If so, will I be "unlocking" the router from Vonage? I don't even have their service anymore - they weren't able to transfer my phone nuimber in over 60 days that I tried them. I'm not sure what I will be losing if I use a generic firmware with a unit that seems to be set up for a particular vendor.

  • Updating Firmware from a Guest Computer

Can I update my iPhone 3G to 2.2.1 from a friends laptop? I am away on vacation and do not have my MacBook Pro with me to update the iPhone, but my friend just updated his via his Windows Laptop.
Was wondering if I could use his Windows PC to update my iPhone 3G's firmware. I do not want to sync my iPhone to his iTunes library but only update the firmware to version 2.2.1. On a side note, I have a MacBook Pro that my iPhone is synced with and my friends laptop is a Dell machine. Not sure if this makes a difference in case my iPhone is mac formatted vs pc formatted.
Any feedback or past experience from others would be helpful.

When do you plan on returning?
An iPhone is not Mac or Windows formatted. Contact info, calendar events, and Safari bookmarks can be synced with the supported applications on multiple computers - even between a Mac and PC without any special re-formatting required.
Although installing a firmware update on a guest or different computer shouldn't be a problem, what if there is a problem with the firmware installation? You could lose all iTunes content and photos transferred from your MacBook to your iPhone. If you can live with this if a problem arises that requires restoring your iPhone with iTunes on this Windows PC which is not the computer that you normally sync your iPhone with, go for it.

  • Can't update firmware for Ipod Touch on my PC

I have a 1st gen Ipod touch & windows xp. I have the latest itunes.
It will not let me update the firmare, but I can sync fine.
To update the firmware, I give it to my husband and he can do it from his computer. Then I can sync with no problems. It's just the updating firmware that causes the ipod to crash (1602 error, but occassionally other numbers).
We thought it might have been that I didn't have USB 2 ports, so I bought a USB 2, 4 port card, and my husband helped me install it. Unfortunately this did not solve the problem and it still wont let me update. I thought perhaps because the usb 2 card came with driver disks, it might need a driver. But I checked the driver disk and it contained drivers for strange things I didn't have. Then I checked the internet and it said that with xp the drivers should be automatic with windows update, and mine is all updated, I checked.
I've checked my devices manager list, and the list only contains one "enhanced" usb port, even though the card I have has 4 ports, but maybe I am not understanding how the devices list works.
Just to clarify, have had the same problem with 2 ipod touches. My orignal one got a cracked screen (one crack so covered by warranty) and I received the replacement ipod touch yesterday, and I still could not update the firmware on my PC. My husband had to do it on his PC (vista).
Thanks in advance for any suggestions. I really would like to be able to update the firmware on my own PC, it's geting extremely annoying.

Because I cannot sync my music to my iPhone without updating on my PC which has all my iTunes. Where should I have posted my question to get the help I need?

  • Updating firmware from 1.1 to 1.2

I just went through the process of trying to update our UCS from 1.1 to 1.2 via these 2 documents:
    http://www.ciscosystems.sc/en/US/products/ps10281/products_configuration_example09186a0080af310f.shtml
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/unified_computing/ucs/sw/upgrading/from1.1.1/to1.2.1/UpgradingCiscoUCSFrom1.1.1To1.2.1_chapter4.html
I managed to the the fabric interconnects, UCSM and IOMs updated but when I look at the installed firmware tab, I can see that all the "Server" components are still at 1.1.
I'm unsure as to whether I'm missing something here from the 2nd link listed above when it lists the following steps:
    Step 1
In the Navigation pane, click the Servers tab.
    Step 2
On the Servers tab, expand Servers > Policies.
    Step 3
Expand the node for the organization that includes the policy you want to update. If the system does not include multi-tenancy, expand the root node.
    Step 4
Expand Host Firmware Packages and select the policy you want to update.
    Step 5
In the table on the right, do the following to delete the existing entry for the firmware you want to update:
Select the line in the table for the firmware version that you want to change.
    Right-click and select Delete.
Click Yes to confirm that you want to delete that entry.
When I navigate to the "host firmware packages", I have no packages listed in there.  How do I proceed in updating the servers?  I've attached a screenshot of what I see in the installed firmware tab.  Thanks.

    Hi Terence,
We usually do it "manually", one blade at a time.
You have to go to Equipment->Server to work one server at a time. When in Server view, go down to "Installed Firmware" and open "Update Firmware": select 1.2 as the "Backup Version" (I see you already did it).
When GUI says "ready" under "update Status" column, you can go on to click on "Activate Firmware": at THAT time the blade will reboot, placing previous 1.2 "Backup Version" to the new "Running Version".
Is it the answer you were looking for, or you wanted a method to do it automatically ?
    Bye
    Daniele
