Can't update from Itunes 8.2.1.6.

Hi, I've been allowing iTunes to update itself whenever one was available. The past couple of months I have noticed it won't update to iTunes 9.
I select iTunes and Quicktime from the update window, it fully downloads or appears to, and then after a short while it says an error occured and if it persists I should download the updates manaully and try again.
Well I've tried loads, and done it manually and it always does the same thing with no explaination of the error except to tell me I should try doing the update manaully.
I have fully updated windows vista and the only thing I use my iTunes for is my music libary and Iphone (OS3.whatever is latest).
Quite frustrating as I have no idea what to search for when theres no error codes or anything??
Incidently, if the response is going to be uninstall iTunes and start again, how do I back up all the libary information and Iphone stuff??
Thanks!

First have you downloaded iTunes from here from the Apple site, not using any update feature?
http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
When you do this you need to select save not run and save the file on your PC. Then onece it has been save, run it from your PC.
If that doesn't work describe what happens and at which point in the process if fails. Give any error message in full.
On backing up, uninstalling iTunes should not affect your library, it uninstalls the program, not your music files. nevertheless it is a good idea to make copies of iTunes Library.itl and iTunes Library.xml which are in your iTunes folder.
Leaving aside the uninstall issue, it is important to back up your valuable music. Anything downloaded from the iTunes store can only be downloaded once, and reloading a lot of CDs is a pain. External drives are not that expensive these days.

  • How can I update from itunes 3.1.2 to latest version? It cuts out every time I try to update.

I currently have software version 3.1.2 every time I log on with my iphone 3gs,  I am unable to update to latest version. It takes and age  , sometimes 2 hrs and then cuts out saying ' time has run out' or something to that effect. I use windows XP. I do have quite an old computer. Someone has suggested I remove Itunes and then reload. I am rather nervous about that, in fear of losing everything!
    Any suggestions? Thanks

Hi there, thanks for your response,
Yes it is IOS I am referring to.
I am running version 10 of Itunes.
The model of Iphone i have is 3G - MC131B - 16gb (the old Iphone) which is running on 3.1.2
When I connect the iphone to itunes, under Version, it says there is a newer version of Iphone software (version 5.1). Click Update. I do this and then the message that comes up every time I try to upload and update is:
'There was a problem downloading the software for the iphone 'xxx' . The network connection timed out' this is often after a few hours or sometimes less than an hour.
Should I remove Itunes and reinstall?
I am trying to change networks and they ask that you make sure you have the latest software.
    Thanks

  • Update from itunes 9.1 to 9.2 fail, can't start bonjour service, window 7.

    I am on windows 7
I try to update from itune 9.1 to 9.2 with the update tool.
When the install starts, after few steps, it trys to start the bonjour service and it fails.
How do I solve this problem?

Same problems here. Got an older itunes installed to activate my new iphone 3gs. Activated and updated the iphone's OS. After the update the iphone requires itunes 9.2 however.
Tried installing 9.2. Bonjour service cannot start, install rolls back.
(whenever i refer to bonjour "dying", i mean it cannot be started due to priviledges missing - i'm the admin lol - or service specific error 6 (0x6) in event viewer)
Uninstalled and reinstalled itunes/quicktime/bonjour several times. Got bonjour working again a few times. During 9.2 installation however, it always dies.
Tried the reloading thing (about 20 times), no go.
Tried installing Airport 5.5.1 for windows which supposedly has a better bonjour installation. Seemed to work for bonjour. However, upon installation of itunes 9.2 bonjour still dies and the install rolls back.
Tried registry changes to grant bonjour full permissions.
Tried giving the bonjour service itself administrator rights to see if i could manually start the service, no go (could not log on).
During all this i have also pilfered with windows firewall (setting exceptions or shutting it off completely), windows defender turned off, uninstalled AV and similar completely, used msconfig to make startups without anything but the itunes/quicktime/bonjour specifics, and still no go.
I'm at my wits end and tired of searching for a solution. Heeeelp!

  • My phone is stuck in recovery mode, and iTunes will only let me restore to factory settings.  My question: Can I restore from iTunes backup after restoring to factory settings?

I attempted to update to iOS 8 and now my phone is stuck in recovery mode, and iTunes will only let me restore to factory settings.  My question: Can I restore from iTunes backup after restoring to factory settings?

    Hi, kformagg
I would say yes. I once had the same problem (iPhone 5, IOS 7) and first restored to factory settings and after that from iCloud backup.
    It worked very well.

    (1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
    (2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
    (3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
    (4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
    (5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

  • Can't update my iTunes

I can't update my iTunes to the 10.6.3 version. I am currently using the 10.6.1 version on Lion. Everytime I try to, it'll start but by the end, it will show me a prompt that says that it can't complete the update. Why is this happening?

I'd try updating using a .dmg installer downloaded from the Apple Website:

If you update from another computer you may lose some of your content.
If your computer does not have the latest itunes then it will not worl with the iphone at all once you update it.
Why do you want to update from another computer?

You are doing all that you cn do right now other than to update the apps in iTunes on your computer and sync them to the iPad.
There has been a problem with the App Store updates tab for a few days now and we are all waiting for Apple to fix it.
Look at all of the discussions on the iPad forum that are talking about this right now.

  • How can I downgrade from iTunes 10.5 to 10.4

How can I downgrade from iTunes 10.5 to 10.4?

Thanks for your support, but I changed the TimeZone (both PC and Iphone 3GS on Istanbul GMT+2) and the problem is still there. I updated also Itunes 10.5.1, same problem. I can't syncronize or update the IOS on the phone. I'm afraid I'll have to try the complete reset to factory of the Iphone (I'm afraid sync data on the iphone has been corrupted and Itunes can't sync).
Any advice on how to save all my data, since backup function does not work because it needs the sync feature?
    thanks
