Can't update imovie movie after it's shared

I shared my imovie to itunes - it's all good, it shows up in Home Movies. Then I made a change to the imovie and shared again.
I get a popup message that the share to itunes has been successful, but it's still the old version, even though I said ok to replace.
I tried to change the name of the movie, and it changed a title IN the movie as well..... of course that shows up in itunes. (that's buggy)
Next I carefully changed the name of the file, without updating the title on the first screen ... then shared, and only then would it show up in itunes.
If i didn't change the name of the file, even if it asked me to replace the original file, it didn't. Very buggy.
This new version seems to be a big step backwards in terms of functionality... I can't find the clip trimmer, can figure out how to fade a clip... the layout is a pain with the huge long string of clips that doesn't wrap.
One positive is letting the Ken Burns effect go beyond he edges of the photo .... but that's the only positive.
And what the heck is theatre? Why do I have to spend $27 on the Missing Manual to figure this out?
iMac 27 inch mid-2011, 3.4 GHz Intel Core i 24Gb Mem
OS X 10.10.2
iMovie 10.06
itunes 12.1

Thank you, there was some good information here.
However - this new version of iMovie does not act like the old version when I update something that's already published.
It says it's replacing the previous version, but it doesn't (I used iTunes publish).
I had to change the name of the movie and publish to itunes, then manually delete the old version.
What about the trimmer for music? I used to be able to select the music, then trim ... I used to do a lot of splicing of music tracks, to time to the photos, remove objectionable verses, etc. I did something similar in this version, but it was unwieldy.
I tried wrapping the timeline, and going back to the previous view ... but then functions are missing, for instance it's not as easy to change the length of a clip. In the previous version there was a drop down. In the new version, it pops up when you move the edge. But if you revert, none of that is there.
I used to be able to make imovie really fly - .5 second clips timed to the music ... not sure I could do that anymore with this new version. It's more consumer oriented, but not as powerful. What a shame.

You can undo a lot of changes, either via changing settings or prefs on the about:config page or via extensions.

- If you have a 1G ipod you can't update past 3.1.3. To identify yourd see:
Identifying iPod models
- Be aware that if you can/do update the iOS to the latest (4.2.1 for a 2G and 4.3.4 for a 3G) you may not be able to sync to the old computer since that computer will need the latest iTunes to see/sync with the update iPod. Yo need an Max with at least OSX 10.5.8.
You can transfer iTunes purchases from the iPod to the computer by:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to a computer
You can use on of the third-party programs dicussed here to transfer other stuff:
new PC: Apple Support Communities
Unless you can move/copy the iPod backup file to the new computer you will loose all app data and restore from that backup. That file is located:
Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/
Windows XP: \Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
Windows Vista and Windows 7: \Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\

• I can't update my apps after upgrade to iOS 6...?

I can't update my apps after upgrade to iOS 6

Are you sure you have a proper Internet connection? Make sure your iPod is connected to your computer, and you have an Internet connection.
Don't even get me started on the iPod Touch 5G, I actually own an iPod Touch 4G, and I've considered a lot about if I should get the new one. At first look, you might be sold by the features Apple has on their iPod Touch page. It has a taller screen that's a 4-inch Retina Display, has a much better camera with a flash, and comes with iOS 6 preinstalled with Siri. But the real breakthrough comes with the new connector. It's called Lighting, and it's much smaller. But if you have a dock connector that comes with some cars, and maybe a set of speakers or docking stations as alarm clocks, I encourage you not to get the new one. The usage of your old connectors requires a $30 adapter, which is a ridiculous price. And who knows how secure the adapters will be with your docking stations? I personally think Apple has crossed the line. If they are to put a new connector with their new products, they should ship with an adapter in the box, at least at first. This is why I strongly encourage you NOT to get the new 5th generation iPod Touch.
Sorry if I went a little off-topic there, but I wanted to get my point across. For your updating to iOS 6, I reccommend you check out other discussions in the support comunity, and see what other contributors have to say. Or go on Google and search your error messages, possibly someone might've already went through the same problem as you did. I really hope this helped!

You are confusing two different versions of the iMovie app. You have downloaded an update to the boxed version that Apple sold in the past. Yoi cannot update the version that Apple now sells in the Mac App Store with that update.

Can I update imovie without changing my projects in imovie that haven't been published?

Jimmyalford,
I am having the same exact problem that you describe. Can't figure it out. I've got a really high speed signal, too. No luck.
GeeD, I do not have macKeeper installed. And I am running iMovie 10.0.2.
I hope someone can shed some light on this.
Thanks all....

• Running Mavericks but can't update iMovie 9.0x-9.09

I went from 10.6.8 -> Mavericks and was running iMovie 9.04- I think the imovie 9.09 update was for Lion so it was never offered as an update.
The less said about the new version of iMovie the better, but it won't let me run on two screens... big fail.
I am using 9.04, and it finds the 9.09 update, but directs to the app store, but the App store doesn't offer it as an update. I manually downloaded the update but it won't run as it tells me I have a newer version, sigh...
I can't find anything obvious in the receipts folder to try and rmove to trick it.
Any ideas how I can successfully update imovie 9.04-9.09 please?

I just ran into the same problem. I've tried to like the new iMovie, but keep going back to 9.04 -- and would like to update to 9.09 (as all the prompts from Apple keep suggesting), but have run into exactly the same issue. Anyone out there with a resolution?

• Can't update iMovie or iPhoto, says that I need to use a different apple ID

I got my iMac quite a few months ago, and ever since then my iMovie and iPhoto has refused to update, now it even won't let me download my "iBooks Author" app. My iMac was bought used, but an employee at the apple store gave it a new "brain" after that and also made the iMac have the same features as the iMac one bigger in size. The specific alert that comes up when I try to update iMovie and iPhoto is: "This update is not available for this Apple ID either because it was bought by a different user or the item was refunded or cancelled". I have talked to the friend/employee about this problem and the only way he could think of was to get a hold of apple and allow them to access my computer remotely to try and fix it. BUT- I really don't want strangers going onto my computer to be honest. So I was wondering, is there another way I could fix this myself? I have tried to use 2 of my apple IDs to update it but neither work. And it would be really good if I could update soon because ever since I got the new mavericks update it isn't letting me use iPhoto 'till I update it again, because apparently this version doesn't support the old iPhoto. I really need to update so I can download photos onto my computer again!!! Hopefully all my photos are not gone, I have never got to back them up yet! PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!

You can not login into iTunes or the App Store using VPP credentials. You must purchase all apps/book/etc. from the VPP website. Then you can redeem the codes thru itunes/app store or import the codes thru apple configurator. Here is the url for the VPP website: https://volume.itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZFinance.woa/wa/login?cc=us
(It will not affect any of the apps you already have but the id can only be used for VPP.)
Cheers,

• Can't update iMovie on Mid-2007 with Mavericks

Even though Apple says that Mavericks support Mid 2007 iMacs, mine has a ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro 256 graphics card and consequently, I can't upgrade iMovie '11 and it has been temporarily rendered inoperable. Apparenty the new upgraded iMovie can't support this card.
I find it hard to believe that I can run Final Cut X and Adobe Premiere on Mavericks, but not iMovie.
WHY doesnt' Apple let you know that? Or did I miss something somewhere?
I've had to reinstall my old version of iLife '11 to get iMovie to work again. Now, I'm back to the '11 versions of iLife and if I do the upgrade then it will render iMovie '11 useless. So now I'm thinking this is a Mavericks issue.
Am I doing something wrong?

I called this problem into Apple and they solved it for me. The problem is in the downloader associated with iTunes. Skip that step and go to Apple.com and download the new iTunes softwere update (Version 11.1) directly. I did this and installed it successfully. After restarting the computer iTunes recognized my phone and all was well. Then I updated and installed the ios7 update without any problems. No charge. Full cudo's to Apple!

• Can't update iTunes movie info when sharing media server

I use a mac mini as a media server and have a 2T hard drive connected to it with all my movies and TV shows.
It is connected to my network but not to a monitor. I connect to it thur sharing when I want to make a change
on it. I have always been able to update my movie info (artwork and such) that way, now all of a sudden I can't.
The "Get info" window is locked and I can't make any changes. Any ideas, much appreciated.
10.6 0n the mini, 10.9 on my mac.

You have the maximum version of iTunes for Mac OS X 10.4. iTunes 10 requires Mac OS X 10.5 or newer. The maximum OS for an iBook G4 is Mac OS X 10.5.8.

• Can't update my website after last iweb update

Okay, since I installed the last iWeb update, I have not been able to udate my website. It was working prior to the update. Now when I make changes to my pages in iWeb and publish it, the website pages are not updated when I visit. Anyone experiencing this? I've looked everywhere to figure out the problem and I am stumped.

I have the same problem since updating to iWeb 2.04. I can't publish to a folder on my computer either. I've tried all kinds of troubleshooting steps: reinstalling iWeb, trashing caches and preferences, System Archive and Install, permissions repair, you name it. This has really shaken my confidence in Mobile Me as a reliable place host a website. Because iWeb won't let me publish to a folder as well as Mobile Me I can't even update the existing site files on my hard drive and use an FTP application to move them to another host site.
Does anyone know what the folder configuration in MobileMe is supposed to look like? I mine, there is a folder for "sites" with nothing in it. There is an iWeb folder with a sites folder in it too. There are files in there but I can't update them. Another strange thing is though I have two sites only some of the files from the second site show in Mobile Me.
I'm sure Apple is trying to fix these problems but I don't think they even know what the problem is yet. Meanwhile, we have to spend valuable time on this thing, and we're stuck because we use iWeb instead of a more main stream web page creation package.
I suppose there is a lesson in there for anyone who relies on their web site for their career and income.

• I can't update imovie since i changed my apple account

Few months back I changed my apple account in my macbook pro (mid 2012). Since then I haven't been able to update imovie. When I updated last, the one with the yellow icon was not replaced by the one with a blue icon and I had both of them at the same time. I tried deleting the one with the blue icon but the problem was still not solved.
Please inform me if deleting the other one will solve my problem or if there is any other solution to my problem. I would prefer if I don't have to format my mac or delete anything else.
Please help.
Thank you in advance.

You can certainly delete any app you don't want on your computer. No reason to keep two copies Unless you want to (read on...).
All purchases from Apple are forever tied to the Apple ID used to buy or download them. To update apps purchased with the previous Apple ID, you first need to log in to to the Mac App Store with that Apple ID.
you should, however, be aware that the older version of iMovie (versions, 7, 9, etc) were left in your App folder on purpose for backwards compatibility. These versions are not being updated, but rather supplanted, by iMovie 10.
