Can't update iOS software

I just tried [last night and today] to update my iPad software to 5.1 -- can't do it "the network connection could not be established" - no error codes. I hit more info and read the KB article and followed all steps, all other software is up to date. This has gone on for 2 days now = and last night I tried to update the software on the Apple TV and it would not do that either = no network connection. But we rented and watched a movie just fine, the network here is fine [I'm oneline and have been] -- I can't even do a Restore operation because when I try to do that to download the software to do it I get the same lack of connection = but the iPad shows up in USB listings in System Info.
I think there must be something server side...ideas?

I finally did get my iPad to update last night = turnned it off, turned it back on after a bit. Then tried to update by WiFi [no connected] and lst time no go but hit Retry and it worked.
A friend said there were lots of people updating the same software and maybe it was the crush. The ATV still hasn't updated but isn't mission critical and I'm sure I'll get it working soon. It works, just needs updating.

Can't update iOS software - 2nd hand MacBook still wants previous owner's Apple ID

Hi everyone,
I recently got a 2nd hand MacBook Pro. However I can't update the core Apple software (iOS etc) since it keeps asking me for the previous owner's Apple ID. The previous owner has deauthorised the MacBook via their Apple account, but software updates still ask for his ID, not mine.
I have registered the MacBook under my name, i.e. I am registered as the owner, but I can't update it.
Any ideas/suggestions would be gratefully received! Many thanks.

- How do I uninstall/delete things like iPhoto, iMovie to be able to reinstall them again? I'm sorry, I'm new to Macs, so I'm not yet familiar with the details.
- If I erase the internal drive and install a fresh OS, is there any way to save my files/data/configuration to save me having to set everything up again?

How to update the iPad iOS version? I have an iPad (first generation) iOS 5.1.1. I can't update the software via WiFi nether via iTunes

I have an iPad (probably first generation - Model A1337 ). This tablet has iOS version 5.1.1.
I would like to update for the latest version as possible.
There is no option by iPad wifi.
I also tried by iTunes and in option Checking for UpDate, only let me know the current version, but doesn't open the possiblity to update for a newer.
How can I update the software version ?

Hi,
The first generation iPad is limited to iOS 5.1.1. This is due to the original iPad not having enough power or memory to get to iOS 6, 7 or any further in the future.
All other iPads and iPad Minis can get to the current version - iOS 7.0.4 and at least until the end versions of iOS 7 or iOS 8.

What model iPad and what iOS are you running? The max iOS for the iPad 1 is 5.1.1.

If you are currently running an iOS lower than 5.0, connect to your computer & click on the "Update your device using iTunes".
Tip - You may need to disable your firewall and anitvirus software temporarily. Then download and install the iOS update. After you update to iOS 5.x, the next update can be installed via wifi (i.e., not connected to your computer).

That procedure eventually leads you to the need to restore it.
Make sure you are following the instructions in this procedure to the letter. Here they are, with emphasis on some easily overlooked requirements:
Disconnect the USB cable from the iPad, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.If you cannot turn off the device using the slider, press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When the device turns off, release only the Sleep/Wake button.
Continue pressing and holding the Home button while you reconnect the USB cable to the device. The device should turn on.Note: If you see the "low battery" screen, let the device charge for at least ten minutes to ensure that the battery has some charge, and then start with step 2 again.
Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears (iTunes icon and USB connector) release the Home button.
If necessary, open iTunes. You should see the "recovery mode" alert ("iTunes has detected a phone in recovery mode").
Use iTunes to restore the device.
If you do not see the "Connect to iTunes" screen, try these steps again. Be patient since it sometimes takes several of these attempts before you are successful.
If you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen but the device does not appear in iTunes, see this article and its related links.
Select the iPad in iTunes and choose "restore from backup". This assumes you have a backup. If you do not, you will have to download all your purchased iTunes content again. You do not have to pay for anything you already purchased.
If you still can't get it to work, you have done all you can and only Apple will be able to help.

Storage space on iCloud is not a substitute for storage space on the iPad. You need sufficient storage space on your iPad to accomodate the download. How much Available space do you have? Go to Settings>General>Usage
How much space is used by your Other? You may be able to reduce.

That only appears when you have iOS 5+ installed, you will need to do the update via your computer's iTunes.
Connect the iPad to your computer and copy any purchases off the iPad to your computer via File > Transfer Purchases (you may also want to copy photos off the iPad as well) and then force a backup of the iPad by right-clicking the iPad 'Device' on the left-hand side of iTunes and selecting 'Backup'. You may also want to copy off the iPad any important documents, notes, files etc e.g. via the file sharing section at the bottom of the device's apps tab when connected to iTunes, via wifi, email, dropbox etc - they should be included in the backup, but it's best to have a copy of them outside of the backup just in case.
You can then start the update by selecting the iPad on the left-hand side of iTunes, and on the Summary tab on the right-hand side clicking the Check For Updates button.

You cannot update iPhone 4 to IOS 8.1.2, the highest you can update is IOS 7.1.2.
Unless you've iPhone 4S (looks similar to iPhone 4)

I was advised by AT&T back in January that it would be necessary to setup separate iTunes accts for the second and third iPhones in order to receive system updates. The problem would be how to keep all the apps, etc from being deleted off the second and third phones that were originally loaded from the one iTunes acct. Since this AT&T advice was prior to iCloud coming out, would iCloud be a better solution or at least part of the solution? I really don't yet understand how iCloud works. Safari won't start and i can't update my software

Can someone pls help me. My safari 3.1.1 haven't log on to the internet in three months. I am working with mac ox 10.3.9 and i can't update my software. When i try safari it just bounce and bounce then stop then nothing. When i try to update the software the blue circle icon show up then it disappear. I am trying to set up my Ipod-touch and it is saying I need mac os x 10.4.10 or larger. HELP ME pls.

You must use the DVD installer to re-install the older version of Safari found on it.
You can update your operating system buy purchasing Tiger (10.4) and get a more modern version of Safari.
