Can't update iPhone4 4.2.1 to iOS 5.0

Can't update iPhone4 4.2.1 to ios5.0, I've tried everything turned of all firewalls Pc and router, I've even uninstalled my antivirus software, used a laptop with vista and a desktop with XP still getting same message, server timed out, it takes 45 mins to doneload and then keeps giving me the same error message

What's the error message/code you are getting?
Try manually downloading the iOS 5.0.1 file (GSM) (CDMA) and save it to your desktop.
Connect your iPhone to iTunes, then hold down Shift when clicking restore, and select the file downloaded. Your phone will now install iOS 5. You may lose your data, so backup first!
Let me know if you're having any trouble.

I can't update my apps after upgrade to iOS 6

Are you sure you have a proper Internet connection? Make sure your iPod is connected to your computer, and you have an Internet connection.
Don't even get me started on the iPod Touch 5G, I actually own an iPod Touch 4G, and I've considered a lot about if I should get the new one. At first look, you might be sold by the features Apple has on their iPod Touch page. It has a taller screen that's a 4-inch Retina Display, has a much better camera with a flash, and comes with iOS 6 preinstalled with Siri. But the real breakthrough comes with the new connector. It's called Lighting, and it's much smaller. But if you have a dock connector that comes with some cars, and maybe a set of speakers or docking stations as alarm clocks, I encourage you not to get the new one. The usage of your old connectors requires a $30 adapter, which is a ridiculous price. And who knows how secure the adapters will be with your docking stations? I personally think Apple has crossed the line. If they are to put a new connector with their new products, they should ship with an adapter in the box, at least at first. This is why I strongly encourage you NOT to get the new 5th generation iPod Touch.
Sorry if I went a little off-topic there, but I wanted to get my point across. For your updating to iOS 6, I reccommend you check out other discussions in the support comunity, and see what other contributors have to say. Or go on Google and search your error messages, possibly someone might've already went through the same problem as you did. I really hope this helped!

  • HT4623 Why I can't update my iPad 2 to the iOS 7

Why I can't update my iPad 2 to the iOS 7

Are you trying to update OTA (over the air) on the iPad itself? To do so, you need to have iOS 5.x or above installed. The OTA update feature was added with this version. If you are running below iOS 5.x, you need to use your PC to update the iPad to the newest iOS 7.
    Check your iOS version: Settings>General>About
The number displayed under "Version" is your current iOS version.

Update it from iTunes on a computer as described at the bottom of this article; there isn't a Software Update option in General on iOS versions prior to 5.0. It can only be updated directly to the newest iOS release supported by the device’s hardware, which is iOS 6.1.6 for an iPhone 3GS.

  • I can't update icloud on replacement phone because ios is not correct version

I can't update icloud on replacement phone because ios is not correct version. Do I activate the phone as NEW?

Do you mean you can't restore your iCloud backup?  If so, then set the phone up as new. Update iOS, then erase it and restore from your iCloud backup.
If that is not what you mean, then you need to explain further.

help can't update my iphone 4s sprint to ios 6 because it exit automatically on about 75% of the installotion over the air and itunes ...

So what happened to the phone during the process?  It should have gone black and restarted a couple of times and there would have been a white progress bar as the update installed.  Sounds to me like you've downloaded the update file but not actually installed it.  The quickest way to see version of the software is installed is to go to Settings-General-About and check Version.

  • How can I update software on iPhone 3g from ios 3.1.3 to ios 4?

Recently been given an iPhone 3g. I had to restore the phone to sync to my iTunes. Now a lot of apps will not download as I need at least iOS 4 but the phone is iOS 3. iTunes tells me that this is the latest software for this model when I check for updates. Is there anyway to update to iOS 4?

The iPhone in question, iPhone 3g is running software version ios 3.1.3, my current iTunes is running 10.6.3. How can I update the software on said iPhone to iOS 4 from 3.1.3 if iTunes informs me that the current software is up to date.
The iPhone has pretty much been rendered useless as I can not download majority of apps. Therefore it just works as a pretty basic phone.

i can't update my iPhone 5c to the update os 8. I don't have a wi fi connection. Anyone know how I can update my phone to the new 8 and connect to wi fi or use my cellular data to update it plz and thank u

    Hello, Chryslers6.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
I understand that you are wanting to update your iPhone 5c via the over-the-air option.  You will need to be connected to power and a Wi-Fi source to use this option.  You should be able to do this while being connected to any Wi-Fi network.  You also have the option to update via iTunes.  The article below will walk you through the process of updating your iPhone.
Update the iOS software on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch
    Cheers,

  • Can't Update or Remove apps, iPhone 4, iOS 7

iPhone 4, 16 GB, running iOS 7.1.2, not jail broken, iTunes 11.4, Mac OS 10.6.8. I always sync & update via iTunes & USB cable. Lately when I sync iPhone to computer, and update apps, for some reason, available space changes radically- one minute it will say I am more than 1 GB over, then later will say hundreds of MB free. I sync every few days to update apps and back up phone. Most numbers seem normal, but Documents & Data are about 1.5 GB, Other 1.38- not sure if those are reasonable?
Last night, tried to backup/update as usual, but it showed I was over again, so I deselect a music playlist to make space. I also deleted a few apps, which actually showed I had less space after doing that. I then readded playlist. Phone said it had only 60 MB free space available. I decided to free some space - I looked closely at apps on phone- a few said waiting, and were grayed out. When I looked at those apps on iTunes, it showed that they need to be updated (no option to Remove or Install), so I manually clicked upgrade on those apps, and did another sync. They still said Update, so I decided to try to remove them from the phone. But, I can’t from iTunes, as there are only Update buttons, and I can’t on the phone- holding apps for a while allows me to see small x on all other apps (except of course stock Apple ones) but not the “waiting ones.” I am assuming the issue is that they are newer versions of apps that won’t run on my iPhone under iOS 7, so I just want to delete them. I believe they are all free apps, things like WordPress, AccuWeather, BigMagnify free, American Airlines…
I tried several restarts, a few hard restarts, relaunching iTunes, but am trying to avoid resetting all settings. Any other suggestions how to remove the apps from the phone once and for all?

Today, when syncing/backing up, I got pop up in iTunes "The app "BigMagnify" was not installed on the iPhone…because the app could not be found." Which is fine, except the app is sitting on my phone, saying "waiting," taking up space while remaining useless and unremovable. Should I try deleting it from Mobile Applications on the computer?  Also, some of the apps that I can't "update" do still work, while others still say waiting on the phone. And none of them can be removed from the phone.
    Thanks.

At the moment, I have iOS 5.1.1 and it says it is up to date.
    Please Help Me

I am referring to my 3rd generation ipod - can you tell me if something is wrong?
I have my iPod and it charges to 100% and tells me to unplug it.
I do and go on it - no WiFi and the lowest brightness and within 10 minutes it goes down to 20% - 5 minutes later and it loses charge and I have to plug it in again.
Is there something wrong with my iPod

  • I can't update my ipod 4th generation to iOS 6.1.6

    Hey guys,
I have an iPod 4G that currently has an iOS of 5.1.1
I tried a few times to update it to iOS 6.1.6 but whenever I do I get the error message:
"Software Update Failed; An error occured downloading iOS 6.1.6."
When i try on iTunes, I get to about a quarter of the way howver an error message pops up saying:
"There was a problem downloading the software for the iPod the network connections timed out."
Does anyone know why the update is not working?

    Check for hardware issues
Try to restore your iOS device two more times while connected with a cable, computer, and network you know are good. Also, confirm your security software and settings are allowing communication between your device and update servers. If you still see the alert when you update or restore, contact Apple support.
    Common errors: 1, 10-47, 1002, 1011, 1012, 1014, 1000-1020.
    Configure your security software
Check your security software and settings, which can block ports and prevent connection to Apple servers during update and restore.
    Common errors: 2, 4, 6, 9, 1000, 1611, 9006, 9807, 9844. Sometimes as a result of this issue, a device might stop responding during the restore process.
    Try on another computer.
