Can't update iPhoto after mavericks update

Hi,
I recently updated my iMac with the mavericks OSX update - but now I cannot update iphoto. the app store shows that is knows an update is available, but whenever I try and update - the app store asks me for a password for my apple ID - but  nothing ever happens. the spinner by the username just keeps going around and around. I have reset the password as well via the apple support pages (iforgot) but it makes no difference. I have another apple ID which I've used since for purchases (and on another mac) which doesn't have any problems at all however the app store update doesn't allow me to change the apple ID.. Any suggestions on how to get this done?
not sure if this is actually an iphoto issue or an app store issue? thanks

Contact App Store support. There's a link on the right hand side of the App Store Window. They're the only ones who can sort out account issues.

  • Can't open iPhoto after maverick update

    Hi
Updated to Maverick and now can't open i photo and can't get it to update. Hepl!

What update? With the amount of information you've provided it's impossible to offer a potential solution.  We can't see your computer so we need to know the details of your problem and setup, i.e.:
    what update did you apply?
what version of iPhoto are you currently using?
what system version are you running?
what do you see when you try to open iPhoto?
    what fixes have you tried?
    where is your library located?
are you running a "managed" or "referenced" library?
    what type of Mac?
how much free space on your boot drive?
    Happy Holidays

Trying got update iPhoto after OS update - This update is not available for this Apple ID either because it was bought by a different user or the item was refunded or cancelled.

With Yosemite you need to update to iPhoto 9.6.
The error message means, that iPhoto has not been associated with your AppleID. You do not say, which iPhoto version you are trying to update from.
Associating iPhoto with your AppleID should have happened, when you bought the computer with iPhoto preinstalled with MacOS X Lion or later or with the Mavericks upgrade, if your Mac came with SnowLeopard. Try, if you can "accept" iPhoto now:
Sign into the AppStore with your AppleID
Open the "Purchased" tab. Do you see iPhoto with an "Accept" button?
Accepting associates your Apple ID with the preinstalled iPhoto. It should move iPhoto from the "Accept" portion of the App Store to the "Purchased" tab. After that, you should be able to update iPhoto from the Updates tab of the AppStore. If you do you not see the update there, try to buy iPhoto. iPhoto may show for free, so you do not have to pay again.
Backup your iPhoto library, if you do not have a current backup.
Uninstall iPhoto by deleting it from the Applications folder, otherwise you cannot buy it again. But do not empty the Trash, so you can put iPhoto back, if need be.
Launch the App Store, click the "Store" menu, and sign in with your current AppleID.
Open the main page "Featured" of the App Store and search for iPhoto.
If iPhoto is listed as "Free", click the "Free" button to buy it with your current AppleID.
If it is not showing as free, there is no help but contacting the App Store Support to sort out the AppleID. Use this link: http://www.apple.com/support/mac/app-store/contact/
After you update iPhoto, your iPhoto Library will need upgrading. Make a backup of your iPhoto Library, before you open iPhoto the first time after updating.

  • I need help updating iphoto after Mavericks

So I downloaded Mavericks, and lost iphoto ... nothing in this world comes easy, right?  I've called and emailed support at Apple, and got nothing but a stock response "Sign into your account, go to the app store, and update your apps!"  Yeah, NO KIDDING.  That was the first thing I did...and when I do, I get the following error message:
"This update is not available for this Apple ID either because it was bought by a different user or the item was refunded or cancelled."
I've tried this while signed in with the only two apple IDs I know of, and got the same message.  As per my iTunes Store/Mac App Store Advisor Julie Ann's request, I replied to her email telling her it didn't work, and now I am awaiting further instruction...it's been 5 days.
The only info I've been able to get out of customer service at Apple is that I will likely have to buy the updated iphoto ... At this point, I am over the injustice that I have to pay for this app again, I just want access to my files.  I will buy the stupid thing if they really make me.  In fact, I've already tried, but I can't figure out how!  When I go to the app store, the only option presented is to "update."  I've thought about uninstalling iphoto and buying it again, but I don't want to risk losing the existing files on my comp.  I know my pictures are still there because the files is rather large.
Anyway, can anyone offer a real solution to this problem?  I guess I can trek to the nearest Apple store, but that requires me to take a ride into the city and wait in line ... ain't nobody got time for that!  PLEASE HELP I NEED MY FILES.

I don't remember exactly what it had on it (snow leopard?) when I got it 5 years ago.  Last year I had the hardrive serviced and installed the lastest (at the time) OSX...I believe it was Mountain Lion.  After that I guess I must have accepted the iLife apps, since I've been using them with no problem.  The only app I have trouble with after the Mavericks upgrade is iphoto.
Why would I do this without backup?  I don't know, I like to live on the edge?  That's not really the point now, is it?  Truth is, everything I need is backed up, except this one file that I happen to need, that I put in iphoto the day before the upgrade.  The only reason I was interested in this stupid upgrade is because I was trying to buy Numbers, and it wouldn't let me without the latest OS.  Honestly, I find it to be completely useless and wish I never did it.
Point is, why am I having this issue with iphoto exclusively?  Can you offer any advice?

  • IPhone won't sync with iPhoto after Mavericks update

I updated to Mavericks this week and also the latest version of iPhoto. I'm having problems getting iPhoto to sync with the phone. It recognizes the phone but won't load up the images on it. And it won't sync photos from my iPhoto library to the phone.
But then, sometimes it works, it recognizes the iPhoto library and updates everything correctly to the phone. Weird! I'm not sure what it is I do that gets the phone and iPhoto to work together. I've tried restarting the phone. That doesn't seem to be it.
    Music and podcasts sync fine.
I have to say, I do have a lot of photos in iPhoto, close to 50,000. Could that be the problem?
    Thanks for your help!

Here's something I discovered, while struggling with the same syncing issue:
iPhoto was not recognizing that my iPhone was plugged in.
Deleting photos not taken with the iPhone would solve the problem, as others have reported.
    Then, this happened:
I plugged in the iPhone to import pictures, and it would not appear in iPhoto, due to the presence of "other" photos on the camera roll (pictures not taken with the phone, but saved there from messages and email received on the iPhone).
With the iPhone still plugged into my computer, and iTunes and iPhoto running, I opened GraphicConverter 5.9 to just check whether or not it recognized the iPhone. GraphicConverter asked if I wanted to import all or some of the pictures from my connected iPhone, and I said no. Now things get interesting: I then happened to look again at iPhoto, and THERE WAS MY IPHONE.
I then proceeded to import ALL of the photos from the iPhone with no problems!!
This has worked twice for me. I can't explain it, but I wanted to post this in the hope that someone else could benefit from it.

  • Can't use iPhoto after newest update on brand new computer!?

I just bought my macbook white yesterday. Installed all of the newest updates (14) and everything works except iPhoto. The first time I clicked on iPhoto, this is what I saw:
    _1st error_:
*The photo library needs to be upgraded to work with this version of iPhoto.*
Your photo library will not be readable by previous versions of iPhoto after the upgrade. The upgrade process may take several minutes depending on the number of photos in the library.
+However, _nothing happens_ when I click on upgrade! It pops to this:+
    _2nd error_:
    *The application iPhoto quit unexpectedly.*
Mac OS X and other applications are not affected.
Click Relaunch to launch the application again. Click Report to see more details or send a report to Apple.
    Please help!

    Hi TD -
Thanks for the pointers. I'm totally new to macs, so still learning!
I did 1 & 2, and then created a new account. iPhoto works in the new account, so I guess it is a problem in the main account...but I don't know what to do from here.
Any more help would be greatly appreciated to try to solve this issue. Thanks!
edit: *actually, I think I just solved it.*
    Based on this disscussion:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2029584&tstart=0
    Steps taken:
    1. hold down the ALT (option) key
    2. click icon to open iPhoto
    3. choose the default library (note: it was the only library listed, and I didn't have anything in my library b/c I'd never launched iPhoto before). +*Didn't have to rebuild anything.*+
Result? It immediately loaded and seems to work fine now!
    Thanks!

  • Why won't iPhoto or iMovie updates work after Mavericks update?

Following updating to Mavericks the App Store lists two necessray updates - IPhoto and iMovie. However when I try and update I get an error message saying that they cant be updated from this apple ID. I originally installed them back in the days when I was running Leopard from a CD - No problems since then, but now apparently no go...
Both still work in their current form.
    iPhoto 11 ver 9.4.3
    iMovie 11 ver 9.0.9
    Any ideas?

The updates/replacements for the iLife and iWork apps are free from the App Store. However, you may have to completely delete the apps to get the free download. NOTE the free iWork (Pages, Keynote, and Numbers) have a reduced feature set similar to the iOS and iCloud versions.

  • Can't reopen iPhoto after installing update on MacBook Pro.

I installed an update for iPhoto yesterday and now find I cannot reopen it. When trying to install, it gets to 50% of step 2 and then quits. Is there any way I can save my photographs, which aren't backed up anywhere other than iPhoto?

The iPhoto application and iPhoto Library are separate items.
All your photos are inside the iPhoto Library package, and that is what you should backup asap!
Your iPhoto Library is by default in your Pictures folder and called iPhoto Library.photolibrary.
Drag this package to an external drive to make a backup copy.
Do you have any Fire wall enabled or Anti Virus software running? If yes, turn it off, while you are running the installer.
If that does not help, boot into SafeMode, while installing, see: Mac OS X: What is Safe Boot, Safe Mode?
Or, if this still does not help, sign into a different administrator account and run the installer from there. You are not by any chance running out of disk space?
See                  How to Access Files in iPhoto
to get access to your photos without iPhoto.

  • No audio on iphoto after mavericks update, any help?

I've upgraded my macbook pro 15" late 2011 to mavericks and after that I have no audio on slide shows and can'y reproduce albums with music. Any help?

Are you using iTunes music in your slideshows?
Try going to iTunes and doing File > Library > Organize Library...
When that's done, try playing the slideshow again to see if you have audio.

  • Java SE 6 runtime not updating properly after Mavericks update

Since updating my 27-inch Late 2009 iMac to Mavericks I have an update that will not process. I keep getting a Software Update notification that says, "To open "java" you need a Java SE 6 runtime. Would you like to install one now?" When I click "install", it begins the process and indicates that it gets about 40% into it and then responds that the network cannot be contacted at this time and that I should try again later. This has been going on for days now and pops up multiple times a day.

Same problem for me. I called Apple and they told me this is an old version of Java and that I should go to the Java web site and download the most current which I belive they told me was version 7. I did that, it seems to install properly but it did noting for stoppig this annoying popup window from appearing on a regualr baiss throughout the day. Additionally, I'm haing some programs telling me they can not run wothout the proper Java update which I can't seem to figure out which one is the proper update. I may add to this on Monday after I call Apple again and see if I can't get someone who kows what is going on. I had no warnings of this nature before Mavricks.

  • Cannot update iPhoto after Yosemite update

Every time I try to update I get this message: This update is not available for this Apple ID either because it was bought by a different user or the item was refunded or cancelled.
It doesn't give me the option to "buy" it, and I know it hasn't been cancelled. I'm the only user on my Mac so I don't know what's going on... : ( How do I get my photos back?

Did someone else set up your Mac for your did you buy it second hand?
If you used a different Apple ID when you set up your Mac, sign into the AppStore with that Apple ID and try again to update.
Does iPhoto show on the Purchased tab of the AppStore?  If yes, delete if from the Applications folder (don't empty the Trash), sign into the AppStore and try to reinstall from the AppStore.
If this does not work, contact Apple Support from the "Quick Links" on the "Featured " page of the AppStore.

  • I can't update iPhoto after installing OSX 10.9.2, it has the name otto@**** in the apple ID box and will not let me change it. Any thoughts?

    Hello people,
I can't update iPhoto after installing OSX 10.9.2, it has the name otto@**** in the apple ID box and will not let me change it. Any thoughts?
    Thanks
    <Email Edited By Host>

You installed a hacked app, originally from the Mac App Store. It contains the receipt for a different app, downloaded using an account that you don't control. You need to identify and remove the hacked app.
Important: The app you need to remove is not necessarily the one named in the App Store alert. For example, the App Store may prompt you to update "Angry Birds" or "Twitter," but the hacked app may be something else entirely. Don't make any assumptions about which app you're looking for. To find it, you must carry out a systematic search with Spotlight.
    1. Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:
    kMDItemAppStoreHasReceipt=1
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    2. In the Finder, press command-F to open a search window, or select
    File ▹ Find
from the menu bar. In the search window, select
    Search: This Mac
from the row of tokens below the toolbar. Below that is a popup menu of search criteria, initially showing Kind. From that menu, select
    Other...
A sheet will drop down. In that sheet, select
    Raw Query
as the criterion, then click OK or press return.
Now there will be a text box to the right of the menu of search criteria. That's where you enter the raw search query. Click in that box and paste the text you copied earlier by pressing command-V.
    4. The search window will now show all the App Store products that are installed. Compare those search results with the list of your purchases from the App Store. To see the complete list, you may need to unhide hidden purchases. If any apps were download from the App Store using other Apple ID accounts that you control, sign in to the store under each of those ID's and check the purchases.
At least one of the apps in the Spotlight search results is not among your purchases in the App Store. Move each such item to the Trash, after quitting it if it's running. You may be prompted for your administrator password. Empty the Trash.
Quit and relaunch the App Store. Test.
If you find these instructions confusing, ask for an alternative method.
