Can't update iPhoto and other apps after upgrading to Yosmite. Bought the computer at a Mac Store complete with iPhoto, iMovie, Numbers, Pages etc so the App store sayes we can't upgrade because these were not purchased through the App store.

Until this gets resolved we can't access iPhoto or my iPhoto library. Unfortunately didn't back up my photos before we "upgraded" to Yosmite. Any ideas?

You need to update the information regarding what Mac this is and what version of OS X you're running.
You show a PB G4, which won't run the Mac App Store.

How can I install Mountain Lion in a VMware fusion, if it came with my macbook pro, and not purchased through the app store?

I have Mountain Lion on my Macbook Pro with Retina but I want to install Mountain Lion in a VM for application testing. I try to install it from the recovery partition but it states that when I put in my apple ID, it states that it was not purchased through the App Store. My OS came with my Macbook. Is there anything that I can do to get it to install in a VM?

Not really. The license that comes with pre-installed OS is only for that Mac.

I have lost all my music on my itunes library. These were not purchased items from itunes, just CDs i had imported, so I could reimport them, but would rather not do that.

I have recently lost all my itunes library. All the CD's were imported, but I would rather not go through the laborious technique of downloading them on to my computer again. I have tried all sorts of methods to restore my library, and have now given up. I have deleted itunes completely from my computer, and reinstalled the program.
I have now bought itunes match.
Unfortunately, I now realise that I will lose all the music on my phone if I use itunes match. So, is there any way of transferring the music on my iphone back to itunes?
Can anybody help?

First, I would try the following suggested steps for when you don't see content in iTunes after updating:
Quit iTunes.
Download and install the latest version of iTunes.
Use the Finder (Mac) or Windows Explorer (Windows) to go to the iTunes folder that contains the iTunes library files:
Mac OS X
/Users/username/Music/iTunes/
Microsoft Windows Windows XP and Windows 2000
\Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\My Music\iTunes\
Microsoft Windows Windows Vista and Windows 7
\Users\username\Music\iTunes\
Drag the iTunes Library file from the above location to the Desktop.
Open the Previous iTunes Libraries folder in the iTunes folder.
Locate the file named iTunes Library YYYY-MM-DD where YYYY-MM-DD is the date you upgraded iTunes (Year-Month-Day).
Drag this file to the iTunes folder (the enclosing folder).
Rename this file to iTunes Library.
Open iTunes.
You should now see your missing content in iTunes.

Try this - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)

When I "deathorize all" computers and re-authorize my current pc so that I can use it for iTunes, will I lose any of my music, especially those that were not purchased through iTunes directly? I am afraid to that I will lose non-purchased songs.

No. Deauthorizing only removes the computer from the list of computers that you can use to view or purchase new music under your iTunes sign-on.

Computer will not allow me to install software, like Adobe updates, because they were not downloaded from the Apple App store

Two times now, I've tried to download and install something (Adobe flash-player up-date AND DIRECTV so I can watch TV channels on my computer) and each time I get a caution symbol and it says that the software cannot be opened by Safari BECAUSE it was not from the App Store. What do I need to be able to install these apps?

I activated home sharing but after syncing, the cd's Tunes which I had burned on my PC, did not share to my other devices but instead the cloud symbol has an error message next to each song not purchased through iTunes.

I activated iTunes Match but the songs in my iTunes library that were not purchased through iTunes did not share to my other devices. instead there is a cloud with an exclaimation point nnext to eahc one and it says errror when you mouse over the cloud. How do I get these songs to share on iTuens Match?

Well, now I feel like a real dope. I restarted iTunes (can't believe I didn't do that before) and now the TV's see the share, and the iPhone see it too (I assume the iPad sees it but I have not checked yet).

Thanks, Winston C, I've actually tried everything you suggested. I'm thinking now that the Home Sharing problem likely is related to Bonjour--I've seen several people mention this with similar (but not identical) problems. The solution that seems to work for some people is to uninstall and reinstall Bonjour. Frankly, I don't want to go through the trouble given that the iOS 7 release is imminent.
One thing that I haven't tried is resetting the ATV to factory settings. I'll give that whirl.

Contact your "friend." Have him set up the MBP for your with your own account, settings and passwords. You are not running IOS 5.1. That is for iPhone and iPad users. What OS are you running? Did he give you the OS installer disks?

You absolutely can just reinstall OS X Mavericks without having to erase and install. The steps to do that are almost the same as the only thing you do differently is that you do not go to Disk Utility to erase the drive. Just go to the Reinstall OS X option and pick your Hard Drive and follow the on screen instructions to get it going. Check out the article below for the step by step process.
