Can't update ipod. can't do anything.

Everytime I plug my Ipod in my computer, it starts to charge and says "do not disconnect". Then, I open iTunes and it won't show up! So I can't transfer any songs on it. I've tried uninstalling iTunes and reinstalling it like 5 times, but it still won't work. I even tried hooking up my mom's Ipod to my computer, and iTunes didn't recognize her's either. I also tried hooking my Ipod up to her computer and it worked!! It might be my computer's USB port. I have 6, and my ipod doesn't work on any of them. I tried updating my ipod, but it said I needed to plug it in and it was plugged in. So, I went to my mom's computer and updated it there. Went back back and plugged it into my computer and it still didn't work. I installed the new version of iTunes, still didn't work. Can someone please help me?! This is so frustrating! It was working perfectly, untill now. I haven't even had it a year!
  Windows XP

I'm not sure if this is relevant but I'm having similar problems myself. I have my pc ( running XP with no ipod software ) hooked up to a cable modem and my daughters PC ( also running XP, yet her Ipod mini and its software is used here ) connected via wireless. She's had the mini for 4 months and has had no problems.Last night went to use a prepaid music store card and was told needed to update with Ipod for Windows 2006-01-10. Once we did this we lost our wireless connectity. I restored my daughters pc to a previous point and the network was fine again but now the mini still needed the update. A bit frustrated here......tried again and once agin had issues so restored the pc......now itunes won't open....says "missing files". I'm also scared to "re-install" all the Ipod software, scared of losing all her music......

  • Can't do anything with my ipod thanks to the new update HELP!

So the new 10.5 update tried to download.and just like everyone else it wouldnt complete downloading because of error message blah blah whatever. THAN i plug in my ipod and it says it wont work due to the apple mobile software whatever. SO after going through a jillion threads and uninstalling using the uninstall menu in program and features AND using REVO Uninstall, AND going through progam files & program files (x64) ive got read of anything to do with itunes as everyone suggested. now no matter what version of itunes/quicktime i download nothing will work. i downloaded itunes 8.2 and it said my library was too new ituneslibrary.itl or whatever wouldn't allow itunes to open at all. so of course it wanted to automatically update to itunes 10.5 which comes full circle back to the begining.. IT WONT INSTALL BECAUSE OF THE BLAH BLAH WHATEVER ERROR BOX.
i now have no music on my ipod. cant use my ipod. i cant do anything. is there a way to RESET or something. im not concerned about getting my original library back,or getting back anything off my ipod. is there a way to fresh start? with new itunes? i have all my musicbacked up or i have the actual cds so like i said im not concerned at all with getting my original library back. all i want to do is get itunes back so i can listen to music and use my ipod again PLEASE :[
someone help. i have windows 7. and this is just a nightmare for me. i need my ipod to function,****.

    Restore...
From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.
There's more to try but let's go a bit at a time.

  • I updated my ipod touch 4g to ios 6 and my screen died. I can't do anything because it's all white. Please help me!!

    I need help.
Yesterday, I updated my ipod touch 4g to ios6 and the update stopped and freezed.
When I tried to restart my ipod, the screen went white, and now I can't do anything. I just keep restarting and restarting but the screen it's still white

    Try the following:
    - A reset. Nothing is lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod.

  • I have an ipad with the ios7 update, but I forgot my restrictions passcode. And i can't restore because my "find my ipod" is on. But i also can't do anything because i don't have an icloud for this device. What can i do?!!

I have an ipad with the ios7 update, but I forgot my restrictions passcode. And when I go and click restore I can't restore because the "findmyiphone" is on and I can't do anything about it since i can't get in my ipad. I can't do anything on icloud.com either because I did not put my device on there. What can I do??

Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

    For how to restore:
    iTunes: Restoring iOS software
    To restore from backup see:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:

  • My iOS is 4, but I can't download anything in itunes or appstore unless I update to 5.0 but my ipod says that my device is updated. What to do?

My iOS is 4, but I can't download anything in itunes or appstore unless I update to 5.0 but my ipod says that my device is updated. Hoiw do I fix this?

I suspect you have a 2G iPod. Those can only go to iOS 4.2.1.
    iPod touch (3rd generation)
iPod touch (3rd generation) features a 3.5-inch (diagonal) widescreen multi-touch display and 32 GB or 64 GB flash drive. You can browse the web with Safari and watch YouTube videos with Wi-Fi. You can also search, preview, and buy songs from the iTunes Wi-Fi Music Store on iPod touch.
The iPod touch (3rd generation) can be distinguished from iPod touch (2nd generation) by looking at the back of the device. In the text below the engraving, look for the model number. iPod touch (2nd generation) is model A1288, and iPod touch (3rd generation) is model A1318
To more eassly find compatible apps:
iOSSearch - search the iTunes store for compatible apps.
    Vintapps 3.1.3 - paid app.
Apple Club - filter apps by iOS version.
If you want an app the requires iOS 4.3 or higher you will need to get a newer model iPod

Can i not have Icloud if i have ipod touch 2nd gen? Can i do anything to update generation?

Nope, you're done.  To get  iCloud you need at least a 3rd generation Touch.  And, you CANNOT upgrade your 2nd Gen to make it a 3rd Gen..

  • Can't update ipod nano: errors 1417 and 1428

I bought my 4gb iPOD nano a month or so ago and initially it worked perfectly. For the last week when I plug it in to my PC iTunes detects it and lists what's on it but won't update it or write to it in any way: it variously gives me error numbers 1417 and 1428. Bizzarely I can copy files onto it absolutely fine through Windows. I can't even restore it to factory settings since I can't write anything to it! Help!
    Thanks very much

  • Can i use anything else to sync my ipod?

i keep having the message that my ipod cannot be updated as there is a missing file. I've followed the guide on here and have reinstalled it etc and followed advice on here, but it still doesn't work.
I'm sick of i-tunes, can I use anything else to put songs on my ipod? I know that media player doesn't recognise ipods, but is there something else I can download to put songs on.
This is really frustrating me, and I'm thinking of taking my ipod back, have only had it 3 days, but if I can't put anything on it there's no point in me having one.

You could have a look at Anapod, XPlay or EphPod:
    Anapod Explorer
    XPlay 2
    EphPod
These programs will all let you manage an iPod however there are a couple of things that they won't do:
    a) You won't be able to update the firmware on your iPod if a new version comes along. The iPod software updater is integrated into iTunes 7
    b) If purchasing iTunes Music is something you wanted to do you won't be able to buy from the iTunes Music store.

  • My iPod Touch won't connect to iTunes or my computer, and the "on this iPod" tab is gone out of the blue. I can't put any more music onto my iPod, and I can't erase anything off of it either! What can I do?

My iPod Touch is a 6.1.6
I got it as a gift a couple years ago, so I'm not sure exactly what generation it is. My iPod Touch will not connect to iTunes or my computer, and the "on this iPod" tab is also gone. I can't put anything new onto it and I can't take anything old off of it! This just happened recently as well, as it was working fine up until a couple months or so ago. What can I do?

Never move songs around by hand, iTunes will lose track of the files that you move.
Your iTunes library is normally stored in C:\Users\<User>\Music\iTunes.
The iTunes application stored in C:\Program Files\iTunes is meant to hold a selection of dll files that are needed by the program. Leavel them alone unless you are actively Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.

    Hello Lex,
If you are stuck at the Apple logo, the you will need to put your iPad into recovery mode. One you do that, plug it into iTunes and use iTunes to restore your iPad. If you have a back up in iTunes or iCloud then you can put that back on once the restore is complete.
If you can't update or restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

  • I can't do anything with my iPod Nano, help urgently!!!

    Hi!
The other day I was trying to update my iPod nano with the latest iPod software but the program went frozen so I can't do anything. I disconnected the iPod -even when in the iPod window appears the "Do not disconnect"- and I saw that all the songs I had were gone, I tried to connect it again but since that day appears the same "Do not disconnect" but in My PC only appears a new disk unity and in my iTunes doesn't appear anything. I tried to enter to the disk unity but I can't and when I disconnect the iPod, it appears a message of "nothing could be written in the unity G" or something.
Please, if somebody could help me I would thanks forever!
    - Mizuno.

Try resetting the iPod: plug it into the wall charger, switch the hold button On and Off, and hold the center button and Menu for about 8 seconds. If that doesn't work, try the other 4 R's: http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/
As a sidenote: when you want to disconnect, you have to either do it through iTunes (click on the grey arrow next to the iPod icon on the left hand side of the iTunes screen), or through Windows Hardware Manager (in the taskbar on the bottom of the screen, double click the icon of a grey box with a green arrow in it-select the iPod & click Stop>OK).

  • Can't update iPod, please help!!!

Normally when you click on "file" in iTunes, one option is "update iPod" but it is pale (can't select it). I can't update it so please reply if you can help!!
Also, yesterday it wouldn't let me disconnect/eject the iPod, and also every now and again a message saying something about a "corrupt file" comes up.
If you can help me with any of these things. PARTICULARLY the updating one then please reply ASAP!!
    thanks!

    http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/iPodUser_Guide(color_display).pdf
Try this link put. It has some good basic information on how to update your ipod. Try to manually update your ipod, the instructions for it are in there. When you are talking about the smart list i think you are refering to the smart playlist. What you can do is set a playlist that has different options that will automatically update the playlist. Say for instance everything that you rate as five stars you can make a playlist that will take all of the songs that have five stars and put it on that playlist without you having to do anything.
Now about the issue of the do not disconnect. I had the same issue with mine when I had first got my ipod. If you look in itunes at the very top in the little dropdown menus there will be one called preferences. Now with your ipod connected click on the ipod tab. There should be an option in there that will let you listen to music etc while it is charging on the computer. The default setting for when it is hooked up to a computer is to not play music or anything until it is unplugged.
I hope that will take care of your questions, if not let me know and i'll see what i can find for you and if it did work if you don't mind let me know.
