Can't update iPod touch from Russia

Hello,
I have bought iPod touch today. I have receipt and guarantee.
But I can't upgrade firmware (2.0) because I can't create account in iTunes Store.
iTunes store registration returns "An Error occurred. The iTunes Store could not process your request, please try again later".
I am receiving this message 2 hours.
Could anyone help my or explain me what happens?
Best regards,
Alexander

I feel fortunate that I'd not bought the Touch yesterday as I'd planned. Even though the Mexican Apple site links to the download for the iPhone and iPod Touch, the link simply opens the USA iTunes store, which then notifies me that purchases through iTunes are unavailable in my country.
So, I guess I'll not buy an iPod Touch. I'm still researching this, though, for one dealer I talked with acted as if the iPod Touch was upgradable. Very disappointing.

I am trying to update ipod touch from ios 4.3.2 to ios 6.1.3.  I have it connected to my computer, and the summary in itunes indicates the update is available.  However, when I click "update", it opens Windows Explorer and waits for a file name to open.

I am not at that computer now, but I did check via windows update & with the check updates menu choice in the itunes program  - neither indicated a newer version of itunes is available. (it is a vista computer).
The itunes software on the computer displays my ipod & the current ios (4.3.2), and indicates a newer ios is available (6.1.3). When I choose "update", I am taken to Windows Exploer and prompted to choose a file to open. it is as if the "update" button has the incorrect code attached to it.
The ipod is working, but there are several app I would like to install, but I can't with the current ooperating system.

  • Can't update Ipod touch 2.0 to 2.1

Hello, this is really bugging me. I cant seem to update my ipod touch from 2.0 to 2.1. I really want to download some cool apps from the app store, but i cant because it says i have to update my ipod. I downloaded the free update to 2.0 "illegally". I am wondering if this is prt of my problem.
    Any suggestions will be helpful
    Thank you

oOkay i found out how to do it. First make sure you have iTunes 8. Then, Power off your iPod by holding the sleep/wake button and sliding the red slider to the right. Open iTunes and hold the home button on your iPod while plugging it into the USB cord. This will make it go into recovery mode where you will be able to restore it. When it is done restoring, SET IT UP AS A NEW IPOD. Sync all your music and videos and you are good.

  • Can't update iPod touch 3. No iTunes app showing & no software update available in updates...HELP

I can't get iPod touch updated. Can't get it connected to cloud. There are no iTunes app, software updates or cloud options in menus. I don't know what to do.

    To update
Connect the iPod to your computer and update via iTunes

A 1G iPod can go to iOS 3.1.3
A 2G to 4.2.1. Requires iTunes version 10.X. That requires a Mac with OSX 10.5.8 or later. With 1OSX 10.4.11 you can only go to iTunes 9.X which gets you as high as iOS 4.1
A 3G to 5.1.1  Requires iTunes version 10.5 or later
A 4G to 6  Requires iTunes version 10.7 or later. That requires a Mac with OSX 10.6.8 or later

  • Help. I can't update iPod Touch 1st gen from ios 2.1.2 to 3.1.1; already paid for it.

    Hi all,
I got an iPod Touch 1st gen for my youngest son for Christmas as a starter. It has the 2.1.2 ios on it, but after I paid for the upgrade to 3.1.1, I keep getting an error message (8288) saying there was a problem with the network connection. I have called customer service, and they suggested I try on a different computer, and if that didn't work, try connecting to a different network, and then trying the update. None of this has worked. It seems that tech support is clueless with this issue.
I have installed and unistalled iTunes 10.5, 10.3, 10.4, and now I am back with 10.5. I have tried looking up the issue from several search engines but no one  seems to have a universal solution and I have tried several.
I really want to have this thing updated for himw hwne he opens it, but I am starting to worry that my purchase was a bust. I know this is the oldest version, but I don't want to buy a newer, more expensive iPod and him still not be mature enough to really take care of it. As I said, this one is a starter.
      Can anyone help? Please?!
    Thank you!!!
P.S. We have a PC, with Windows XP Home.

Yes, I have contacted them. They are who told me to try a few of the "fixes". They actually said they had never heard of this error, or any problems relating to his download. Also, when I was talking to them, they came here to this forum to find the answer...:/ This is why I am asking here. I was hoping someone had an idea I hadn't tried already.
    Thanks.

  • Can't update iPod Touch SW from 1.1.3 (with software upgrade) - 1602 error

I get errors trying to sync since the 1.1.4 upgrade became available, plus I do connect and sync, I can't update to 1.1.4: "The iPod could not be updated. An Unknown error occurred (1602)." Has anyone else encountered this? Any solution ideas? Any way to contact Apple tech support on this?

I think that this is the error you get when the sync fails due to lack of sufficent US power (or hyperthreading - see other discussions).
I solved it in the short term by unplugging as many USB devices as I could, restarting everything including powering off the IPOD then recovering the IPOD. The longer term solution was to buy an external USB hub. I have an Intel motherboard. I'm not sure if other motherboards have simular issues.

  • Can't Update iPod Touch

For some reason I cannot update my iPod touch. I skipped my 3.0 update b/c I didn't have the funds and might've made it stop checking for updates. But now I'm stuck on 2.2.1 and want to update but can't. When I click the "Check for Updates" button, it tells me that I'm up to date. Thoughts?

I'm in exactly the same boat! I want to upgrade from 2.x to 3.x, and I can't. What's up with that? Before 4.x came out, I had the option to upgrade to 3.x. I have an updated version of an app that requires 3.x, so how do I upgrade???

I suspect you have a 2G iPod. Those can only go to iOS 4.2.1.
    Identifying iPod models
    iPod touch (3rd generation)
iPod touch (3rd generation) features a 3.5-inch (diagonal) widescreen multi-touch display and 32 GB or 64 GB flash drive. You can browse the web with Safari and watch YouTube videos with Wi-Fi. You can also search, preview, and buy songs from the iTunes Wi-Fi Music Store on iPod touch.
The iPod touch (3rd generation) can be distinguished from iPod touch (2nd generation) by looking at the back of the device. In the text below the engraving, look for the model number. iPod touch (2nd generation) is model A1288, and iPod touch (3rd generation) is model A1318.

"There was a problem downloading iOS 3.1.1 Software Update for iPod touch. An unknown error occurred (8288)."

Hello, I hope by now you have resolved the upgrade issue, but if not, here is what I ended up having to do:
“SUCCESS!!! I took my iPod to a friend who is a computer programmer/genius. He turned off his wireless, hooked the ethernet cable directly into his computer, and the download went through without a hitch. YAY!”
Here is my original post explaining what I had already tried:

Now, there seem to be a lot of different ways to solve the 8288 error, none of which are universal. Best of luck getting yours upgraded!

P.S. The post by Sparkhi is a link to his blog going into a long story about how he wanted Apple to pay him for “solving” the issue….the one that apparently has been solved by multiple solutions. I’m not trying to bash, it just bothers me that he put up this whole story and finally, at the very end of his blog post, posts his solution.

  • Can't Update iPod Touch 1G

Hello I am currently using an iPod Touch 1G, version: 2.2.1.
The problem I am having is that I can't update it. I've gone back to it after not using in a while and it won't allow me to use the free apps that I used to enjoy such as iMob until I update to version 3.0.
However my iTunes is telling me that this is the latest version and doesn't give me the option to update. I have tried restoring the iPod, as well as updating and reinstalling iTunes.
I'm not sure where the problem is, whether it is my iTunes, iPod or if the 1G can't be updated any further(which I really wouldn't be happy about).
This iPod has never been hacked or jailbroken or whatever other terms that describe it being used against Apples policies.
I hope someone can help me or point me in the right direction.
    Many thanks in advance.

p.s. Forgot to add that I use 64 bit version of iTunes (not sure if it matters).

OK sorry but found the answer on another topic.
Bit ridiculous that 1G users have to pay to update to an inferior version whereas everyone else gets the latest one free though.
