Can't update itunes/quicktime on new HD

I just installed a new western digital drive and used it's tools utility to make the new drive the boot drive. Utility moved everything over to the new drive and seems to boot and run fine. But when I tried to update itunes I get an error when it validates the quicktime install and says it can't remove the older version because it can't find a valid Quick Time.msi file. I ran a search and found the file name it wants, but when I tell the installation to look at that file, it says it's invalid. I assume if QT can be fixed, itunes will have the same prob so any suggestions?

okay, let's try this technique for removing the previous version of QuickTime.
Download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. then use it to clear any existing QuickTime installation configuration information from your PC:
Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
Next, we’ll manually remove leftover program files and folders.
1. On the Start menu, click My Computer (or double-click My Computer on the Desktop).
2. In My Computer, open Local Disk.
3. Open Program Files.
4. Right-click on the QuickTime folder and click Delete from the shortcut menu.
5. Navigate to C:\Windows\system32\.
6. Remove the files QuickTime.qts and QuicktimeVR.qtx.
7. Restart your computer.
does an itunes install go through after that? or do you get a .msi message for itunes, this time?

  • Can't update iTunes & Quicktime to 8.0.2.

Hi, I am having problems updating my itunes to 8.0.2. Apple software update tells me that "iTunes + Quicktime" has an invalid signature. The download has been removed. This happens halfway through downloading.
I have tried the "download only" option and I get the same error message. Is this happening to anyone else and what can I do?

  • Can't update iTunes

Every time I try to install iTunes 10.5 on my macbook pro, it gets almost to the end (blue progress bar moving along then stays at about 90% for a couple of minutes), then my entire computer crashes/shuts down. This has happened three times in a row. What can I do to successfully update iTunes so I can update my iPhone? Thanks!

    1) Nope. I rarely even use QuickTime, unless it's to view a video I took with my digital. So I never really even updated unless the little notice opened up prompting me to do so.
    2) Actually, when I try to uninstall, it's not in the add/remove window, but the uninstall link is in the programs menu. But when I do that, the InstallShield comes up, loads for a few seconds, and then nothing.
Also, when I try to open QuickTime by itself, I get this message:
"Your copy of QuickTime 7.0.2a63, QuickTime Player 7.0.2a63 has expired. Please visit www.apple.com/quicktime/download to download and install a new version."
I can't update iTunes without the latest QuickTime, and I can't download the latest QuickTime without installing iTunes, but it keeps giving me errors. I had circular dilemmas like this. =/

  • I can't update itunes to 11.0.4 on windows 7

    I can't update itunes to 11.0.4.
When I try to update a message pops up saying "the feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable". The same thing happened with the last update. I had to uninstall and download the new version.
Every other update has worked on this laptop until then. I've just updated itunes on the other two laptops without any problems.
    Any ideas?

I've tried again but it's still not working. This time a message appears saying iTunes64.msi file not found. Check the file name and try again.

  • I can't update my apps, download new ones

I can't update my apps, download new ones

Are you losing the connection to iTunes on the iPad or the computer? You are saying that iTunes is updated. Of course iTunes is updated when you update the iOS software. That's a no brainer.
If you mean that iTunes is updated on the computer, that has absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with downloading and updating apps on the iPad itself so changing the date on the iPad, signing in and out of the stores on the iPad .... Doing any of that on the iPad would have nothing to do with iTunes on your computer.
If .... you have not been able to connect to the iTunes or app stores at all on the iPad - try this ...
Settings>Privacy>Location Services>System Services (swipe to the bottom of the page to find this)>Location Based iAds>Off.
If the downloads are stalled or "waiting" - try these suggestions.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
Make sure that you do not have a stalled download in iTunes - a song or podcast .... if you have a download in there that did not finish, complete that one first. Only one thing can download at a time on the iPad so that could be what is causing the problem.
If you can't connect at all - you can also try rebooting your router. Unplug it from power for about 30 seconds and then plug it in again.

    (1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
    (2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
    (3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
    (4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
    (5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

  • Can not update iTunes because I have iMac with 10.5.8 . How I will sync my iphone 6.0 with an older version of iTunes on my iMac???? There is no update for the software of my iMac and no update for the iTunes.... So how can I sync????

Can not update iTunes because I have iMac with 10.5.8 . How I will sync my iphone 6.0 with an older version of iTunes on my iMac???? There is no update for the software of my iMac and no update for the iTunes.... So how can I sync????

    Requirements for iPhone 5:
Syncing with iTunes on a Mac or PC requires:
Mac: OS X v10.6.8 or later
PC: Windows 7; Windows Vista; or Windows XP Home or Professional with Service Pack 3 or later
    iTunes 10.7 or later
The highest version of iTunes you can install is 10.6.3 which will not sync with the iPhone 5.

It's always a good idea to check the requirements before purchasing.
The person I spoke with at 1-800-MY-APPLE gave me totally different info...she said the iPhone 5 would in fact sync with the older version of iTunes and that I could restore from my previous iPhone 4 backup and also bring in my music that way.  Hmmm....
I'm inclined to go by the published specs, but now I have to jump thru a bunch of hoops I wasn't expecting to.
