Can't update my iPod Touch software.

Hello, i'm having trouble updating the software on my iPod Touch. First i tried to update it when i was on version 5.1 i believe, because i wanted to have the IOS 6 features. It didn't work then, so i started to search on Google, trying to fix it. The first suggestion i got was putting my iPod in recovery mode, so i did that. Now i can't actually do anything on my iPod, and i can't recover it because the problem hasn't changed. I get a message telling me that iTunes couldn't connect to the iPod software update server or something like that whenever it tries to update. I have been drilling my brain looking for a way to fix my problem for two hours, and now i don't what i could do other than seek some more direct help. I am currently on iTunes 9.2, because one of the "fixes" suggested that, but it didn't change anything. I am also on Windows 7. I currently have no anti-virus other than the Windows Firewall. iTunes is allowed to go past the Firewall, and i also tried it with the Firewall disabled. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.
Ps. I actually already posted this in another part of the forum, but i was unable to get a response there, so i figured it was the wrong board.

A 4G iPod can go to the current iOS 6.2.1. You need iTunes version 10.7 or later on the computer. The latest is version 11.

If it's a second generation iPod touch, no; they can't be updated past 4.2.1.
If it's a third generation iPod touch, yes.
If it's a fourth generation iPod touch, no; they can only be updated directly to 6.1.3.
