Can't Update or Remove apps, iPhone 4, iOS 7
iPhone 4, 16 GB, running iOS 7.1.2, not jail broken, iTunes 11.4, Mac OS 10.6.8. I always sync & update via iTunes & USB cable. Lately when I sync iPhone to computer, and update apps, for some reason, available space changes radically- one minute it will say I am more than 1 GB over, then later will say hundreds of MB free. I sync every few days to update apps and back up phone. Most numbers seem normal, but Documents & Data are about 1.5 GB, Other 1.38- not sure if those are reasonable?
Last night, tried to backup/update as usual, but it showed I was over again, so I deselect a music playlist to make space. I also deleted a few apps, which actually showed I had less space after doing that. I then readded playlist. Phone said it had only 60 MB free space available. I decided to free some space - I looked closely at apps on phone- a few said waiting, and were grayed out. When I looked at those apps on iTunes, it showed that they need to be updated (no option to Remove or Install), so I manually clicked upgrade on those apps, and did another sync. They still said Update, so I decided to try to remove them from the phone. But, I can’t from iTunes, as there are only Update buttons, and I can’t on the phone- holding apps for a while allows me to see small x on all other apps (except of course stock Apple ones) but not the “waiting ones.” I am assuming the issue is that they are newer versions of apps that won’t run on my iPhone under iOS 7, so I just want to delete them. I believe they are all free apps, things like WordPress, AccuWeather, BigMagnify free, American Airlines…
I tried several restarts, a few hard restarts, relaunching iTunes, but am trying to avoid resetting all settings. Any other suggestions how to remove the apps from the phone once and for all?
Today, when syncing/backing up, I got pop up in iTunes "The app "BigMagnify" was not installed on the iPhone…because the app could not be found." Which is fine, except the app is sitting on my phone, saying "waiting," taking up space while remaining useless and unremovable. Should I try deleting it from Mobile Applications on the computer? Also, some of the apps that I can't "update" do still work, while others still say waiting on the phone. And none of them can be removed from the phone.

I can not update/download an app from app store by using my iphone 4s. I try every method by re-setting date/time and reboot the phone etc.NO Help.

A return of "i am local" ensures there is no remote connection to your machine (through SSH).
In the future, to avoid remote entry, I would recommend not posting your IP address though. -

Update it from iTunes on a computer as described at the bottom of this article; there isn't a Software Update option in General on iOS versions prior to 5.0. It can only be updated directly to the newest iOS release supported by the device’s hardware, which is iOS 6.1.6 for an iPhone 3GS.

I can't update or download apps. When i try, I get the red circle with the red square in the middle- no activity, and when I tap on it it instantly reverts to the cloud/arrow symbol. I also can't download tunes- all of my iTunes match songs appear and I can stream them- but when i try to download to my iPhone- same thing: red circle with square in the middle, no activity, if I tap again, reverts to cloud symbol.
I have turned off and on, reset network, reset device (but haven't restored to factory settings, trying to avoid that), i have signed in and out of iTunes countless times, i have chatted with support and have been on the phone with support (another call scheduled tomorrow) but no luck at all. Very frustrating- i've never experienced this with Apple before. Anyone have any suggestions? On, another thing. I have an iPad mini that i updated to iOS 8 and it works fine. I can download and update apps, and can download tunes from iTunes Match. Awesome, right? Very confused.Connect your device to ITunes on a Pc or Mac and sync that way.

This isn't achely a question it's about iPod not iPhone but can Apple. Make all apps work with iOS 7 even when it's really old
And it's totally impractical for any OS to provide complete backwards compatibility in perpetuity. So no, Apple cannot grant your request. As WJ said, it's the developers' reponsibility to provide updates to their applications to be compatible with newer operating system releases, whatever the platform might be.

I have a very simple web page that uploads pictures (.jpg or .gif) and when I updated my iPAD to IOS8 this morning the web page times out for any upload.

That should work. Go here to determine if there is perhaps a third Apple ID involved! If not, perhaps your memory isn't what is used to be. Change the password.

How to put your iPhone in DFU mode :
Connect your iPhone to your computer.
Turn iPhone off.
Hold power and home together for 10 seconds (exactly).
Release power but keep holding home until the computers beeps (observed on a PC) as a USB device is recognized.
A few seconds later iTunes should detect your iPhone.
If the Restore Logo is present on the screen, you are in Recovery Mode, not DFU.
If DFU doesn't work, your only choice is to take it to Apple for evaluation. -

Please helpDo you mind taking a screenshot and pasting it here? Go to the app store to the page of an application that looks messed up (install button not showing, no description, etc). Hit the lock and home buttons on your phone (the circle one and the one on top) at the same time, just click them down together once. Your screen should flash and you will have a picture of that screen in your photos. Can you post one here? If you need help posting a picture on these forums let me know and I will guide you through.

I have two more suggestions:
1. Reset your iPad - hold down the Home and Power buttons at the same and continue to hold them down until you see the Sliver Apple (ignore the red slider). You will not lose any data. I know this sounds like it might not do anything, but this afternoon I deleted and re-added my iCloud account on my iPad (experimenting so I could answer another question), and it really messed up my Photostream. Did the reset, and everything in the photostream reloaded successfully without any further problems. A reset can do wonders to help "clear your iPad's mind"....
2. Go into iTunes and update the Apps on your computer, then hook up your iPad and sync....

You can download app updates on your computer's iTunes and then sync those updates to your device(s) - that is the computer that you sync the device(s) to ?
When you connect a device to a computer's iTunes, then on its Apps tab you should be able to scroll through the listbox of apps and click the 'Update' button next to the apps that have updates on your computer that you want to sync to the device, and then click the Apply/Sync button bottom right of the screen. -
