Can't update or restore ipod

I am having trouble updating to version 1.2. then i try to restore my ipod and it won't do that either...can someone please tell me how to fix the problem? please?

I had all sorts of trouble trying to update - or even restore - my iPod tonight. I finally put it into disc mode. Then I was able to update it successfully. Go figure. I'm on Windows XP.
To put the 5th gen iPod into disc mode:
* Disconnect it from your computer if it's currently connected.
* Make sure your iPod is charged
* Toggle the hold switch on and then off again
* Hold down on the Menu and on the select (the center button) buttons at the same time until the iPod resets
* When you see the ghostly Apple logo appear, quickly hold down on the Play/Pause and Select buttons. Within a few seconds you should see a screen indicating the iPod is in disc mode (a big checkmark appears in the middle of the screen).
Now connect it to your PC, fire up iTunes (if it doesn't start automatically), and try to update the iPod. If the update is successful, the iPod will reset automatically, and come back up in regular mode after a few minutes (once the iPod is finished processing the update).
Good luck!

I found some information that needs to be published that iTunes makes no gurantees on recommended or required updates at the iTunes store of the compatablity of the products being sold and the updated iTunes software. Case in point; If you purchase games from the iTunes store and have downloaded the latest version of iTunes 7, your iPod will not play these games, for example video poker and Bejeweled. Go the following link and read it for yourself. There are no gurantees either that you will be able to update or restore your iPod. WARNING!!!!

  • Can't Update or Restore iPod Mini

My iPod Mini shows up in Windows, but instantly says 'Do not disconnect' even when fully charged. iTunes doesn't recognise it and the Updater usually hangs. I've tried everything including the 5 R's and have followed the steps in this article http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93716. When I use the Windows 'safely remove hardware' function, I get an error message saying Windows was trying to write data to the device - I can't see any way of stopping this, even after removing iTunes and the Updater from the PC. The last step offered by Apple is to reinstall Windows, but I don't see why I should have to do this as Norton SystemWorks tells me everything is working fine. Since quite a few other people seem to have been having similar problems recently, could this be to do with an automatically-installed Windows update causing a conflict?

I am having all the same trouble with my Nano. It was working beautifully until today, when I noticed that it was not showing up in the Itunes menu. Itunes says it's not connected, but my computer and it have a fine connection with power, etc. I have tried all of the steps, etc., and have had no luck. Now it will not let me restore it. I get a message saying that there are other applications using Ipod... but I have shutdown everything. I am just stumped. Any suggestions anyone?

I have an ipod 4 and I can't update nor restore. I tried DFU mode and rest all setting. Another words, tried everything that I can think of.  Can anyone help please?

The only way to solve this error is to edit the host file in your system. All you need to do is to add the following line at the end of the host file:

iOS 4.3 requires a third generation or newer iPod touch; you don't need to buy a brand new device in any case.

  • Can't update or restore your iPhone 4

can't update or restore my iPhone 4,I have been trying since week by either restoring or updating but the phone isn't coming out of recovery mode,Please help!!!

    Try DFU mode:
How to put your iPhone in DFU mode :
Connect your iPhone to your computer.
    Turn iPhone off.
Hold power and home together for 10 seconds (exactly).
Release power but keep holding home until the computers beeps (observed on a PC) as a USB device is recognized.
A few seconds later iTunes should detect your iPhone.
If the Restore Logo is present on the screen, you are in Recovery Mode, not DFU.
If DFU doesn't work, your only choice is to take it to Apple for evaluation.

You can't merge accounts or copy content to a different account, so anything that you bought or downloaded via the old account is tied to that account - so any updates that those apps get you will only be able to download via that account. You can change which account is logged in on the iPad via Settings > Store

  • I can't update and restore my ipod. Also it has 7.5gb wasted

    Hi,
While I was charging my ipod video (30gb), the cable got disconnected accidentally, after this, the ipod has not anymore songs, contacts, video... anything on it, everything has been deleted, but when I used itunes, in the section of the ipod appeared 7.5 gb used. Then I tried to update and restore with the last update software, but any of those worked and it always showed the same message error (error -60008), I charged the ipod again with all songs, videos, etc and it works perfectly, but there is still a problem in the memory of the ipod. There are 15gb which appear used but there are 7.5gb of those which supposted to be free but apparently contain the same files.
The ipod has 12.6 gb free
    ibook g4   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

I had a similar problem last week, my ipod was showing space used but I couldn't access anything on my ipod. I put out a query here but wasn't lucky enough to get an answer. In the end I reformatted the ipod and rebuilt alll my play lists (a major job) - lesson learnt here was to back up the ipod when its running smoothly. I now use podutil from http://www.kennettnet.co.uk/software/podutil.php
so if it crashes again (or my 3 year old pulls out the usb at a critical moment) all is not lost and it's just a matter of a quick restore.

  • Software update corrupt. Can't update or restore :(

I have an Ipod Touch 5th gen running iOS 6.1, however I am trying to update it to iOS 6.1.2 but no matter what I do it will not update or restore and Itunes keeps giving me an error saying that the software update was corrupted during download after waiting an hour for the update to download each time.
    Things I have tried:
Tried updating over the air by going into settings > general > software update on the Ipod - but the ipod just hangs forever where it says checking for updates with the spinning pinwheel and does not go any further (I let it sit for about an hour at that screen and it still said that it was checking for updates!)
I have tried disconnecting and reconnecting my Ipod many times - didn't work still get the error when updating
I have tried restarting my computer many times (my computer is running Windows 7 Professional x64) - didn't work still get the error when updating
I have tried soft-resetting (I think that is what it is called) the Ipod by holding down the sleep/wake and home button until the apple logo shows up - still didn't update got the same error
Tried reinstalling the Apple mobile device USB driver in the device manager in windows.
Tried connecting the computer and Ipod to my other wireless network.
I have tried putting the Ipod into recovery mode (where it shows the connect to itunes screen) and then tried updating or restoring through itunes - didn't work either still get the same error
Tried putting the Ipod in DFU mode and then tried updating and restoring- still didn't work get the same error
Finally I have tried manually downloading the ipsw file and then holding shift while clicking on update to select the downloaded firmware file like I read in another thread on this site - but that STILL did not work and I got an error that it could not be updated because the firmware file was corrupt.
I have even tried the last option with the Ipod in DFU mode - still no luck.
It seems like I have tried every single option and at this point am really frustrated since I cannot update or even restore my device. Is there anything else I can do or do I need to take it into an apple store to see if they can update it? Will they be able to update it for me in the apple store and will they charge me any money for doing it? (my Ipod is still under warranty as far as I know).
I also thought that maybe it was a temporary glitch with apple but I have tired this for THREE DAYS without any luck. I have NEVER had this issue before and was always update to update over the air or through Itunes
Nothing is wrong with my Ipod other than not being able to update it over the air or through Itunes. The only reason why I am trying to restore or update it to begin with is so I can have the latest iOS.
Has anyone else, or does anyone else have this issue, and if so how did you fix it?

    All I can suggest
    - Is to download the update file on onother computer/network and try to copy to your computer and try again
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple.
