Can't update podcasts...Help

When I listen to podcasts on my ipod, then update the ipod on my computer, the podcast episode doesn't get deleted like I have it set to do. It is still on my play list, just not as a new podcast. I have looked at the preferences and it still says to only keep new podcasts...why are they still there?
My ipod only started doing this a month ago, before that when I would update to the computer the episode I had listened to would be deleted.

Try a reset which is similar to a computer restart and is done by pressing and holding the home button and the sleep/wake or on/off button simultaneously you see the Apple logo and then release.

  • I can't update podcasts after updating to 11.2

Widows 7 64bit. When I click the update button, things start normally for about 2 seconds then stalls. After about 3 minutes, I get a Windows message saying iTunes has stopped responding and closes iTunes. If I have task manager open while I try to update, it's obvious there's a memory leak. Memory usage gradually climbs up to about 3GB and then Windows intervenes. I've tried deleting SyncServices and even tried renaming the "Apple Computer" folder. The folder gets recreated but I still can't update podcasts. Ideas?

  • IPod app: can't update podcast

    1. In the iPod app on my (original) iPad, I select a podcast (e.g. MacBreak Weekly) and see that "Salty Snacks" (episode 244) is the last one I have.
    2. I choose "Get More Episodes…".
    3. The iTunes app takes me to the MacBreak Weekly page in the iTunes Store, where I see that "It Just Looks Thicker" (episode 245) is the most recent one.
    4. I click on the FREE button and then the GET EPISODE button and episode 245 starts downloading. I watch it downloading completely in the Downloads section.
    5. I switch back to the iPod app and see Macbreak Weekly just as it was, i.e. the most recent episode is still 244 "Salty Snacks", and I can't find the episode I just downloaded.
Any ideas why this is happening? Some notes:
    1. I have a similar problem using the Music app on my iPod touch. The difference is that, on the iPod touch, the iTunes app won't let me try to redownload the episode; it appears to remember that I've already downloaded it, even though the episode doesn't show up in the Music app. On my iPad, I can go back to the iTunes Store in the iTunes app and redownload (even though the download never shows up in the iPod app).
2.The same problem occurs with any podcast I try to update; i.e. this isn't just a MacBreak Weekly problem.
    3. I'm using 4.3.3 now but this problem has persisted for quite some time on the iPad. On the iPod touch, updating sometimes worked during the 4.3.2 days.

The first line of this post should have read "I can't update or download any apps"

    can't update apps.  Just spins

Yes, it is official. iPad 1 hasn't been eligible for an update in 2 years.
It will run any applications that are compatible with iOS 5.
The selection is definitely thinning out as developers cater to the newer versions of iOS.
You can check the iTunes store to see if the apps you are interested in support iOS 5 but IMO, it most likely isn't worth buying an iPad 1 unless you have a very limited simplistic use for it.

  • Rhythmbox error: Can't update podcast & use Magnatune Store plugin

Hi, well recently I noticed that Rhythmbox wasn't update my podcasts, hitting the 'Update all feeds' does nothing. Also the Magnatune plugin fails to load the playlist properly.
So I try running Rhythmbox from terminal and this is what I get:
(rhythmbox:5601): Rhythmbox-WARNING **: Unable to start mDNS browsing: MDNS service is not running
(rhythmbox:5601): RhythmDB-WARNING **: trying to sync properties of non-editable file
(rhythmbox:5601): RhythmDB-WARNING **: trying to sync properties of non-editable file
(rhythmbox:5601): RhythmDB-WARNING **: trying to sync properties of non-editable file
    The line:
(rhythmbox:5601): RhythmDB-WARNING **: trying to sync properties of non-editable file
happens evey time Rhythmbox is trying to update feeds.
I checked on the Wiki to make sure that I got every libs installed (gnome-python, gstreamer-gnome-vfs, etc.) but it still doesn't work.
What is the problem? I used to be able to download feeds with Rhythmbox without and problem, until now. Is it because I need to open some ports for Rhythmbox to work? (I had firewall up and running recently.) Thanks for helping.
BTW: Rhythmbox have no problem playing internet radio. Weird.
UPDATE: I delete '~/,gnome2/rhythmbox' folder and podcast now seems to work (I can update and download a podcast). But I still get this error:
(rhythmbox:5601): Rhythmbox-WARNING **: Unable to start mDNS browsing: MDNS service is not running
    When running Rhythmbox from terminal.
What does this error means? And how do I fix it? Thanks in advance for helping.
UPDATE2: Ok, now I think I know what cause this: Magatune Store plugin. It seems that it tries to write change into '/opt' folder (which it can't) and give this error:
    Traceback (most recent call last):
    File "/usr/lib/rhythmbox/plugins/magnatune/MagnatuneSource.py", line 312, in __download_update_cb
    out.write(catalog.read("opt/magnatune/info/song_info.xml"))
File "/usr/lib/python2.5/zipfile.py", line 471, in read
    zinfo = self.getinfo(name)
File "/usr/lib/python2.5/zipfile.py", line 462, in getinfo
    return self.NameToInfo[name]
    KeyError: 'opt/magnatune/info/song_info.xml'
After the plugin tried and failed to write change into '/opt' folder, the problem with update & download podcast return.
    Can anyone confirm this?

Ok for anyone interest, I post the above questions on Rhythmbox IRC channel and got some answers regarding these error messages. It appears that the first error mesage:
(rhythmbox:5601): RhythmDB-WARNING **: trying to sync properties of non-editable file
Is nothing serious and seems to have been fixed in 0.11.x. So all is fine.
Magatune Store plugin error was caused by the location of the file on the server was moved. It was already fixed, so wait for 0.11.x or if you just can't wait, moch post me this link to the fix: http://svn.gnome.org/viewcvs/rhythmbox/ … 92&r2=5279
Huge thanks goes to moch for taking time to answer my questions.

  • Can't update podcasts or sync them to iPhone

Hi all, Hope you can help.
I can no longer update and download new Podcasts to iTunes for Mac.
Error "There was a problem downloading "name of podcast". You do not have enough access privileges for this operation."
    The issue has just started.
I can download directly to my iPhone so can still get them, but this ***** a bit.
Search this forum and find find references to iPhoto issues and authorizing the iMac/iPhone with the account. But I don't think this is an issue here.
iPhone connects and syncs OK with everything else.
    Thanks
    Ali

    Hey Ali,
I found information on a very similar error message in here:
Trouble adding music to iTunes library or importing audio CD
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1387
This is the relevant information that should apply to your situation:
These messages occur if permissions are incorrect on your designated music folder or on a folder inside your designated music folder. Permissions are settings that determine who can read, write to, or execute a file or folder on your computer. Every file and folder on your hard disk has an associated set of permissions.
Example: If permissions are correct on your Music folder, but incorrect on the U2 folder inside your Music folder, you would be able to add other music to your iTunes library, but not that new U2 album.
Look here for help in correcting the permissions on folders:

  • Can't update Podcasts

Thanks to the "Improved" quicktime that was forced on me this morning, I cannot update my podcasts, nor can I even see the Itunes store. This happens every time they update some aspect of the player. Normally, I just have to make adjustments to my firewall, and all is well: but not this time. I even disabled it completely, and no luck. All I get is a "NETWORK CONNECTION COULD NOT BE MADE" error message. I've been using Itunes for a little over 3 years, and never had this happen.
If anyone knows of a fix, I'd be obliged.

finally figured it out myself ---
[sarcasm] thanks for all your "help" [/sarcasm]

  • Dual users = iPad & iTunes confusion, now can't update podcasts

    Hello Apple Community:
I bought a first-gen iPad, and my wife connected it into her Macbook while she was signed in to her iTunes account, in order to give me some her iPhone apps.  As a result, the iTunes on the iPad initially logged in with her user info.
Since then, I have subsequently connected my iPad to her Macbook, but sometimes while I was logged into my iTunes account on the iPad, and sometimes while she was logged into her iTunes account on the the iPad.
For lack of a better phrase, I feel like this has resulted in some Macbook iTunes confusion, and she is now constantly seeing pop-ups asking her to authorize her iTunes account on her Macbook, when she already has, and now she cannot update her podcasts.  (I'm sure there are some other issues we are not seeing as well.)
Is there anyway to remove all traces of my usage from her Macbook iTunes account, so that there is no overlap between users?
    Thanks!

You could try starting totally anew...
Before wiping your iTunes account off, restore your iPad as a new device. That will take everything off your iPad (Should do the same with iTunes)
So no account, no device. Then you can go about re-doing you're own library for your device.
However I've not had a chance to test this myself, so can't comment on it's success. An Apple expert should be able to help if you're in need of better advice than mine

  • I can't updated podcast episode list or download podcasts

I have been having issues with podcasts in iTunes as of yesterday. I cannot download episodes of podcasts I am currently subscribed to, and when I try to unsubscribe and re-subscribe, I can no longer get a list of available episodes. I have tried logging in and out of my Apple id, deleting the iTunes folder and upgrading my version of iTunes and nothing has fixed the issue.
    Please help!

I don't know how podcasting via the iTMS is organized (only listen to them), so don't expect an expert opinion from me.
    This is what I experienced:
Search OK. Only 1 episode found. Clicked on the artwork to go to the podcast. Got the message "Could not complete etc."
Well, there's nothing wrong with my Internet connection either.
    Other podcasts work fine.
So, my layman's opinion is that there is something wrong at the iTMS.
Clicked the 'Subscribe' button. All 29 episodes listed. Downloading them was no problem at all (full speed on my DSL; 665 KB/s).
So there's nothing wrong with your Internet connection either.
These are just my findings and layman's opinion.
Can't suggest anything to solve it though.

  • HT1819 Can I update podcast RSS feed without deleting current location?

I have changed where my podcast are hosted so I am trying to figure what I need to do on iTunes. Can the RSS feed be updated or do I have to start a brand new podcast?

If you don't have access to the old feed to add the redirection tag to it you can't redirect iTunes yourself. Email Support at podcasts 'at' apple.com and ask them to do it for you - give them the Store URL and the URLs of both feeds.

  • IPod internal manager error--can't update--professional help please!?

I want to update my iPod mini. I connect it to the computer. It says I don't have the latest version of the iPod updater (though my computer says I do, and I know I downloaded it a few weeks ago). It says click here to update. I click, and then a message pops up that says "iPod internal manager error" and I can do nothing. Nothing! No update for my iPod.
This "iPod internal manager error" problem is addressed here: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301907 but the suggestions there have not helped me. I have checked repeatedly and know that I have both the current version of iTunes and the current version of iPod updater. I remain perplexed.
Can somebody solve this once and for all? I want to update my iPod!
    Dell Inspiron 9300   Windows XP

Okay, so my iPod has done this twice now, so it must be a pretty common problem. Once plugged into my computer, it goes into a black and white Do Not Disconnect screen and iTunes fails to recognize it while my computer still does. Reading these discussions, I found a POSSIBLE quick fix for others with this prob that has to do with reformating your iPod. It erases everthing on it, but at least it starts to work again. Here goes:
    1. Open your Ctrl Panel thru the start menu.
    2. Switch to "classic view" if it's an option on the left.
    3. Double click the icon "Administration tools"
    4. Double click "Computer mangagement"
    5. Click "Storage" followed by "Disk management"
    6. Find your iPod's listing
    7. Right click it and choose "Format"
    8. Select "FAT 32" instead of "FAT" and start the format.
So pretty much this is only a solution if when you get to step 8. you find out that your iPod is on "FAT" format. Hope this helps anybody with this same prob!!

I have no idea how to solve this problem. Are there any suggestions?

I have an new iPad that I updated over WiFi, but I could not update my iPod Touch over Wifi for reasons unknown. The download kept stalling at the "preparing software" stage so I used iTunes on my Mac to update the iPod Touch.
Either keep trying, or resign yourself to the fact that you just may have to use a computer.
