Can't Update/Restore

When trying to update my iPhone 6 Plus through iTunes, the download would take hours, half a day usually. At the end of every download, this would always fail stating "the file was corrupted during download". Since updating/restoring my iPhone 6 Plus would take so long and always inevitably fail, I decided to download the 8.12 IPSW for my 6 Plus. Why trying to shift-click update/restore, another error has come up. "This firmware file is not compatible". How can I fix this? Am I just not supposed to update at all now? Where is Apple's mind?

My iPod works again. Yay.

  • My ipod says it's up to date, but it's not and I can't update/restore

Itunes updated to 7.0.2 and I can load up my own CDs onto my ipod nano. I can buy new tunes on the internet and they load into my itunes library but the purchased tunes don't load onto my ipod - I keep getting a error message that my ipod software is out of date. I've tried uninstalling itunes but keep having the same problem. My ipod preferences page tells me I have software version 5.1 on the ipod. I can see the buttons for update/restore, but this whole section is grayed out and the buttons don't work. What can I do?

When you come back, try this.
Click on control panel/admin tools/computer management/disk management/right click on the iPod to re-assign the drive letter.
Choose something lower down the alphabet, say 'M' or something similar.
The iPod can be confused by any other storage devices assigned a similar drive letter even though they may not connected at the same time.
If the device manager is empty, see this: iPod not appearing in Windows device manager.
It's a long shot but worth a try.

  • Version Shows 4.2.1:Can't Update, Restore, or trnsfr photos or prchsd music

I have an ipod photo 20GB and after upgrading to itunes 7.0.1(7) the summary tab shows:
    - 4.2.1 shows as software version (instead of 1.2.1)
    - older ipod icon is pictured
    - the version states"ipod is up to date" and the 'update' button is grayed out
....the 'restore' button is grayed out as well so I can't even restore from my
    machine
    - I'm missing the 'photos' tab
I can transfer all my non-itunes store purchased songs fine, but when I try to transfer the purchased ones, it says the software on my ipod is too old and that I need to go to use the 'update' button in the summary tab...which tells me I have the latest version! I'm caught in a loop and am beyond frustrated! I tried using my ipod on my husband's powerbook and it's fine on HIS computer! Correct version 1.2.1 comes up and itunes store music transfers...I restored the pod from his itunes, but even after doing that I still get the same result on mine. What is going on??? Help!

  • Can't Update/Restore/Use my iPod!!

My iPod worked, with all my music, it updated and everything. Then I put iPod Linux on it, and it worked just fine, but then I tried to update it, and it gave me the error message: An error occurred while trying to update/restore iPod. So I uninstalled iPod Linux, and tried again. Same error. So I tried to restore it. Same error. So I reformatted it in Disk Utility as a Mac OS Extended (Journaled). It still didn't let me update or restore it. I unplugged it and it gave me the folder/go to Apple/Support/iPod thing. I plugged it back in and iTunes opened and treated me like a person who just bought the iPod. It downloaded all my music onto the iPod. I unplugged it, and it still gave me the go to Apple iPod Support. So now my iPod has all my music on it, is formatted as Journaled Mac OS Extended, and doesn't work.
    Help!!

    My iPod works again. Yay.

  • Can't update, restore, alter, change, add.....

I am having the same problem as numerous others in an earlier post. Out of the blue, my ipod stopped connecting to itunes. My Computer recognizes my ipod, but will not let me peruse of my files or open the removable disk. I tried resetting numerous times, did not work. I tried updating and then restoring, and it says "ipod service error" when I run the updater.
This is becoming a huge irritant. I can still play all of the songs that are on my ipod currently, and I can still charge it efficiently, but now I want new music, and I want to get it connecting to Itunes.
    Anyone help?
(The changing the drive letter and error check didn't work.)

  • Can't update/restore after intalling itunes 7.0  or see ipod in source list

I have a complicated issue. I just installed itunes 7.0 and my ipod won't show up in the source list (which had been a problem before with 6.0). Thinking this had to do with my Toshiba laptop, I disabled my high-speed usb port. But one of the later steps (to fix the toshiba problem) is to open the ipod updater and then restore the ipod. I can't do either of these because for some reason my updater is the 6.0 version still and gives me an error saying it's no longer supported and i have to use itunes to update (which I can't). I don't know what to do! I need help!

    Hey there
I had issues trying to update my ipod (60g) after upgrading to itunes 7. Finally figured it out!!! I had to disable my Norton internet security - firewall and everything worked fine!!! It took maybe 10-15 mins to update the ipod to version 1.2 - then another 30 minutes to upload all my podcasts. I have no idea why it uploaded each one. Almost like during the update to version 1.2 - my podcasts (only the podcasts) were deleted and then reloaded again. Weird!!!
SO... hopefully you have a firewall that you can disable for about maybe 30 mins - just enough time to let the ipod update then you should be good. took me 4 friggin days to figure this one out!!!!
    Hope this helps!!

  • Iphone 6+ Stuck in Recovery/Apple Logo, Can't Update/Restore

Hello! I got an iPhone 6+ a week ago, and have had it working perfectly until two days ago. I tried to update it through iTunes to iOs 8.12.
After successfully downloading the OS (12 hour download), iTunes began to update it. During the update the screen went black, and the phone restarted in recovery mode. I tried to restore the phone, and iTunes told me the phone would be restored and updated. The restoration did not work. I tried to restore the phone/update the phone for a third, but it would take hours to download and try again. I can restart the phone, but it takes me to the Apple Logo and stops. I can get into DFU mode. After getting to the Apple Logo and turning the phone off, it won't come back on until I plug the phone in. Even after hours of charging, the phone still states the battery has "died". Does anyone have a fix for this? I tried several programs including Tiny Umbrella and the program from FonePaw. Any help is needed. Thanks.

No. My network gets 10gb/s. The OS takes hours to download through iTunes. I also downloaded the 8.12 ISPW for iPhone 6 Plus so I could shift-click and manually update. Still no dice. The complete restore. It just keeps going back to trying to download the OS.

  • Error 1413 "An unknown error has occurred"....Can't update/restore my nano!

When I try to update or restore my nano, i get the error message "An unknown error has occurred" followed by error number 1413. I've tried all 3 solutions to fix it, and none have worked. Anyone have any insight into this? Thanks.

    I haven't seen a 1413 for a while.
Doublechecking something. Do you have an older version of SpyCatcher (or a copy of GhostSurf Platinum 2006, which contained the problematic version of SpyCatcher in this context) installed on that PC?

  • HT1212 I am unable to get our of a continuous cycle when trying to update or restore my iPad 2. Plug in to iTunes 12.0.1 (latest version). Click update, told can't update, have to restore. Restore fails with error 9. Any help appreciated.

When I tried to update my iPad I got an error 9. Now, I am unable to access my iPad. It is in a continuous cycle when I try to update or restore the iPad 2. Plug in to iTunes 12.0.1 (latest version). Click update, told can't update, have to restore. Restore fails with error 9. Any help appreciated.
    Here's the cycle:
I plug in my iPad when “cable to iTunes shows on iPad screen. It says "Your iPad can't be updated, you must restore it to factory settings." That bad enough news, but it gets worse.
    Click Restore
    Extracting software…
    Preparing iPad for restore
    Waiting for iPad…
    Verifying iPad restore with Apple…
(empty bar under the Apple logo…does not show any activity)
“The iPad “iPad” could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (9).”
Notes: I just upgraded to OS X Yosemite 10.10.1 on my iMac (27-inch, Mid 2011) in the last week. It’s the first time I’m tried to backup/update my iPad since the iMac update.
I swapped out the USB cable to a new cable and get the same results.
I also unplugged all other USB devices from the iMac and security on my iPad and still get the same results.
I find it strange that it shows no Serial number for my my iPad 2 when plugged in. It shows “Serial Number: n/a on the screen when it displays: “iPad Recovery Mode To update your iPad without erasing its contents, click Update. To restore your iPad to its factory settings, click Restore iPad.
I prefer to update my iPad, but it displays “Your iPad can’t be updated, you must restore it to factory settings. If you previously backed up the iPad, click Restore Backup after the restore process completes.”
It’s a continuous loop. I get the display on my iPad to plug in the iPad to iTunes, plug it in which ends after going through the above procedure saying an error occurred (9).
So now I cannot use my iPad. When I turn it on I get the display showing me to plug it into iTunes with the cable. Since this is the only option I have I plug it in and the loop begins.
    Any advice would be appreciated.
    Thanks!

Thanks for the question. After reviewing your post, it sounds like you are not able to restore the iOS device since you get an error 9. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help the issue.

  • Can't update from 10.8 to 10.8.2 on Macbook Pro Retina 15" (restored from old Macbook Pro 13")

So I bought the new Macbook Pro Retina 15" and restored from my Macbook Pro 13".  Everything is good except that when I go to AppStore to update other Apps it says I need the latest 10.8.2 update but that doesnt' even show up.  Is there some new update coming out soon that will resolve my problem?

If the 10.8.3 comes out and I can't update it from the AppStore, then I'll try your original method you wrote "
Boot to the Recovery HD partition, Command+r at startup, and select Reinstall Mac OS"
But with that method, do I keep everything or will I lose everything?  If it keeps it, I can do that right now then.
    Thanks!!!

The only way to solve this error is to edit the host file in your system. All you need to do is to add the following line at the end of the host file:
