Can't update/search/install packages via pacman or yaourt

Everything was fine until I manually installed package-query and yaourt and now I am unable to update/search/install packages via pacman or yaourt.
Earlier I was having trouble installing the package-query and yaourt packges using pacman so had to install them manually and now it wont connect to the repos.
My eth0 is up, the proxies are set, all browsers work so no problem from the network side.

Once you're done, disable the repository though because everything except for yaourt is out-of-date by at least a month.
Don't ever suggest that. The repo is 100% useless since it is trivial to install yaourt from aur. Also yaourt/package-query in that repo is often broken/outdated.
Also it is not relevant to op's problem anyway. There were some routing issue to leseweb the other day, I also noticed it. Just switching mirror works fine.

  • Installing packages via burned CD

    Hello everyone.
    I have an x86 machine that I've just installed Arch onto. For reasons I won't get into, it's not going to be networked at all (no internet or intranet, therefore no pacman mirrors). I'm wanting to install packages via the CD drive: Ruby, Python, X, BSD games, Tex, etc. The idea is I will download these packages and burn them to CD, then access them via the Arch machine.
    I guess my question is, what is generally the best way to go about this? I think I'd have to get pacman to point to my CD drive to search for new repositories, but I am unaware how this would be accomplished. Google searches do not yield helpful results. I suppose I could just compile them from source, but is there an easier way?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks
    Dan

    tomk wrote:perbh - his CD is just a bunch of packages, not a repo. The second link in my post above fills the gap.
    ooops *lol* - I checked your first link but not the 2nd - guess my fingers were faster (at a multitude) than my brain.
    I use a portable usb-drive for my repo - and it has 'core', 'extra' and 'community' as the top directories - in which case what I wrote above would work. If your  repo is just a collection of packages, obviously it wont ... sorry for not reading properly :-(

  • IOS 6 on a 4s, I can't update or install any apps.

    Since installing IOS 6 on a 4s, I can't update or install any apps. Touching the buttons to install causes nothing to happen. I now have 8 pending app updates that I can't do anything with. What's the solution?

    Hi, I'm having a similar issue updating apps. My phone is currently stating there are 4 updates available, but when I open the App Store and go to the updates tab, nothing appears. Just a blank screen.
    I have tried updating on different wifi networks, restoring the phone from a backup, signing out & in to the App Store again, but it still won't download updates. As it stands the only way I can update is via pc (I haven't tried this yet but sure it will work.....).
    I have seen various posts on the forums with the same or similar problems, but ALL suggestions on these have failed as well.
    Any ideas would've appreciated.

  • Reinstalling all installed packages using pacman

    I feel my installation is corrupted .volcontrol muted on every boot,nautilus crashing,etc and more.
    So,I though of reinstalling whole Gnome-2.22
    I got below script somewhere in this forum or wiki maybe:but the script is erring out :?
    please help !
    pacman -S $(pacman -Qq | grep -v "$(pacman -Qmq)")
    and got the below error message
    error: no targets specified (use -h for help)

    Run the command pacman -Qq and pacman -Qmq separately and try to find out why it breaks.
    pacman -Q displays all packages, pacman -Qm displays the packages that are not in any repos, that is the packages you installed manually == foreign packages. You can't reinstall these foreign packages with pacman -S by definition.
    So you have to filter them out of pacman -Q output.
    pacman -S $(pacman -Qq) fails here, because I have 3 foreign packages, but  pacman -S $(pacman -Qq | grep -v "$(pacman -Qmq)") works.

    Can i update ios 8.0 via cellular data network?

    No, it uses too much cellular data. Also if your phone is running fine on IOS 7.1.2 I'd hold off upgrading until a few more  of the bugs have been worked out of IOS 8.

  • Can't update after install Yosemite

    can't update after install Yosemite

    Install or Reinstall Yosemite, Mavericks, Mountain Lion, or Lion from Scratch
    Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
    How to Clean Install OS X Yosemite
    OS X Mavericks- Erase and reinstall OS X
    OS X Mountain Lion- Erase and reinstall OS X
    OS X Lion- Erase and reinstall Mac OS X
    Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
                because it is three times faster than wireless.

    Did you try re-installing OS x Lion? That was the solution for me. Just make a back up with time machine and then restart your mac and during restart press ALT. Then you'll acces the support screen and there you can reinstall OS X lion on your macintosh HD.
    This was the solution the people from Apple support gave me and afterwards I could download the update perfectly.

    You are doing all that you cn do right now other than to update the apps in iTunes on your computer and sync them to the iPad.
    There has been a problem with the App Store updates tab for a few days now and we are all waiting for Apple to fix it.
    Look at all of the discussions on the iPad forum that are talking about this right now.

    I Can't update or install new application on my iPad 2 with retina displa running on iOS 8.1.2.

    Hello, DGVLIMITED.
    Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
    I would need clarification on what exact issue you are experiencing and any errors when attempting to update applications to provide a better answer.  However, try updating applications individually.  This could be a capacity limitation when updating all at once.  Also, try restarting the device.  If these steps do not resolve the issue, try the remaining steps in the article below.
    Troubleshoot issues on an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
    If you haven't been able to connect to the iTunes Store:
    Make sure your date, time, and time zone are correct in Settings > General > Date & Time.
    Note: Time Zone may list another city in your time zone.
    Make sure that your iOS software is up to date by tapping Settings > General > Software Update(iOS 5 or later) or connecting your iOS device to iTunes and clickingCheck for Update on your device's Summary page.
    Check and verify that you're in range of a Wi-Fi router or base station. If you're on a device with cellular service, make sure that cellular data is turned on from Settings > General > Cellular.
    Note: If connected to cellular data, larger items may not download. You may need to connect to Wi-Fi to download apps, videos, and podcasts.
    Make sure that you have an active Internet connection. You can check the user guide for your device for help with connecting to the Internet.
    Make sure that other devices (portable computers, for example) are able to connect to the Wi-Fi network and access the Internet.
    Try resetting (turning off and then on again) your Wi-Fi router.
    If the issue persists, try troubleshooting your Wi-Fi networks and connections.

    Important you follow the directions here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4972
    The update to iOS 5.0 or higher is an erase/restore deal, so its important that all of your data be on your computer before you attempt to update.
    iOS 6.1.3 will be installed on your phone.

  • [Feature] view already installed package when pacman -Ss

    Maybe I've miss something but when I pacman -Ss sth
    I have a list of package related to this sth but it would be nice to know if it's already installed
    Also yaourt include this feature already

    Here's a script that you can use to search the repos and see which of the results you already have installed:
    #!/usr/bin/python
    import sys
    import os
    import re
    # colors
    CURRENT_VERSION="\x1B[0;32m" # used if installed version is the current version
    OLDER_VERSION="\x1B[0;36m" # used if installed version is an older version
    RESET="\x1B[0;39m" # the default color
    def get_args():
    if len(sys.argv) > 1:
    return ' '+' '.join(sys.argv[1:])
    else:
    return ''
    local_pkgs = {}
    local_regex = re.compile('(\S+)\s+(\S+)\s*(?:\n|$)')
    local_list = os.popen('pacman -Q').read().rstrip()
    for match in local_regex.findall(local_list):
    (pkg,ver) = match
    local_pkgs[pkg] = ver
    search_regex = re.compile('((\S*?/)(\S+)\s+(\S+)(.*?)\n(\s+.*?)(?:\n|$))')
    search_list = os.popen('pacman -Ss'+get_args()).read().rstrip()
    for match in search_regex.findall(search_list):
    (full,repo,pkg,ver,group,desc) = match
    if local_pkgs.has_key(pkg):
    if ver == local_pkgs[pkg]:
    print "%s%s%s %s%s\n%s" % (CURRENT_VERSION,repo,pkg,ver,RESET,desc)
    else:
    print "%s%s%s %s%s\n%s" % (OLDER_VERSION,repo,pkg,ver,RESET,desc)
    else:
    print full.rstrip()
    Just pass it the search term that you would pass pacman. I've added 4 comments at the top to make it clear how to change the output colors if you want.

  • Can't update or install

    Posted this under hardware, should probably be here instead since it's more of a software install/update question.
    I have a 2.4ghz intel core 2 duo imac with 1gb of 800mhz ddr ram
    Currently I have osx 10.5.5
    Over the past few months I've been unable to update my software - I click on 'Install' and it thinks about it, then the 'Install' button unshades itself and nothing happens.
    I've been trying to use the mac version of openoffice, but have been having real difficulties with lots of crashing etc. I decided to give the iWork trial a go, but it requires me to update osx - but as I described above, I can't update it without running a software update.
    I have now downloaded the latest update direct from the apple website and I loaded the dmg successfully and it ran. When I get to the point in the installation where I select the folder and click install I get nada - nothing.
    Scratching my head here - I've got no idea what else to try!
    Note: I do have little snitch installed, though I've checked the updates have free access and have even disabled it in the hope it was just unable to access the net or something.
    I have tried a full shutdown, unplug and wait ten mins as well as a verify disk & repair permissions.
    Nothing seems to work!

    What happens when you select the update package file in the folder in the mounted disk image & right (or control) click on it in the Finder? Do you get an "Open with... " option in the contextual popup menu, & if so, what app does it list as the default? If it does not say "Installer" then this app may somehow be missing, damaged, or relocated; or have incorrect permissions.
    The app should be at path /System/Library/CoreServices/Installer.app. If it is there, try double-clicking on it directly to see if it will launch. (It should just present a standard Open window. You can cancel that & quit the app since for this test we just want to see if it can launch.)
    Its permissions (from the 'Get Info' window) should include system as owner with read & write permissions. If not, run Disk Utility's Repair Permissions routine. (You may want to run this routine anyway just to be on the safe side, but it will take several minutes to complete.)

  • Search for packages with pacman

    Normally I searched for packages with packman -Ss ...
    But is there a posiblity that it shows only that packages wich i havent installed?

    pacman -Ss <packagename>
    shows packages in the repositories you have specified in /etc/pacman.conf, whether they are installed or not
    pacman -Q
    will list the packages installed on your system

  • Weird Message After Updating or Installing Packages. [SOLVED]

    Whever I install or update a package, or packages, on my system, I always get the following message when everything is done being installed:
    /sbin/ldconfig: file /usr/lib64/libamdcaldd.so is truncated
    Why would this be and how can I fix it?  It just recently started (maybe 5 days ago).  I'm sorry I can't tell you what packages I upgraded or how I changed my system when it started happening.
