Can't update to fcp 5.1.4 because system is now 5.0.4

how do I update to 5.1.4 when the download is telling me I must have a 5.1 version in my applications folder....and I am currently running fcp 5.0.4 and there is no current 5.1.0 avaialble?

Apps are always tied to the ID that was used to purchase them. If you bought the apps with old username and password, you have to continue to use them to update the apps.
If you changed the username because you got a new email address, sign out of your old ID in Settings>iTunes and App Store. Tap the old ID and sign out then sign in with the new/changed ID.

iOS 7 requires iTunes version 11.1. If your software updates are not seeing the update for whatever reason, you can download and install it directly from http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Keep in mind the requirements to download iTunes 11.1:

Disable your antivirus and firewall software. Kaspersky is especially bad about interfering with updates.

The iPhone 3G is only compatible with iOS 4.2.1 or early. Connect the iPhone to the computer and iTunes will ask you to update iOS to the latest version

Purchasing more Storage on iCloud will not increase the Storage Capacity of your iDevice.
You need to Delete Content from your iDevice...
Goto... Settings > General > Usage > Storage = Then Delete Content...

Yes, it does. It appears that they're going to have you run Disk Utility and wipe the MacHD. However, how you do that w/o a Recovery HD is beyond my ken. As for backing up, I wouldn't rely on Time Machine, but instead make a bootable backup/clone on an ext FWHD, ensure that it can boot the machine. Then, you can use that to wipe the MacHD.

I have xp sp1; i went to FoxFire b/c i cannot up date to sp2. (comp problem). now i can't update to FireFox 13 b/c it requires sp2. now what?

i cannot update my windows sp1 b/c of unrelated comp issues. its just not compatible with my comp. so i tried FoxFire...a few of my friends recommended it. i have been using it now for awhile and i like it a lot. i don't even use IE anymore. the new update for FoxFire (13) required me to have sp2 in my comp! well....i can't!!!! so now what??????????? will i not be able to get FoxFire in the near future?

Firefox 12 will not delete itself from your computer, at least I don't think it will, so you will have it for a while. Make sure to turn off automatic updating.
Regarding your hard drive, I wonder whether a tool like Partition Master could swap things around successfully? I've never used it for anything drastic, so maybe ask around on some forums for guidance. http://www.partition-tool.com/personal.htm

We have an iMac that is about 6 or seven years old. We are trying to install an app that requires the software/operating system ios7 on our Mac. We have been able to update our phone and iPad but cant update the computer. Any way to get around this would be appreciated. thanks!

iOS 7 goes on your iPhone and iPad. It does not go on your computer.

Install OS X Using Internet Recovery
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
Boot to the Internet Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND-OPTION- R keys until a globe appears on the screen. Wait patiently - 15-20 minutes - until the Recovery main menu appears.
Partition and Format the hard drive:
Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
After DU loads select your newly installed hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Install button. Be sure to select the correct drive to use if you have more than one.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
This should restore the version of OS X originally pre-installed on the computer.
