Can't update to Yosemite 10.10.2

I can't find the update Yosemite 10.10.2 because App Store show me the alert: "An error has occurred: Can't connect to the Apple Software Update server."
I used the console to debug the error.

  • Can I update to yosemite from 10.6.8

Can I update to yosemite from 10.6.8, or do I need to order Lion or Mountain Lion first?
I thought I could just upgrade but when I select UPGRADE, I get messages like: "Safari can't open the specified address"

Well yes, however you do not give enough information. Technically all you need is 10.6.8, but there is more to the equation.
Easy to figure out if you look at this ref of requirements

  • Can't update to Yosemite due to family sharing conflict?

Ugh.  I wish these things came with instructions...
Went to start updating the computers this morning, and, foolishly, started with my daughter's laptop.  First of all, I have to give permission to upgrade the OS on it (WTH? - it's FREE?).  It starts the laborious download (which we paused so she could get some work done via wifi).  I go to update it on my desktop, and it says another family member already has it, and I have to have family sharing to get it, and that requires the new OS.  Dear me.  What the heck were they thinking on this one?  That only one computer is actually authorized to have it, despite them ALL being eligible for the free download?
Any good suggestions for how to fix this?  Clearly, neither computer actually HAS Yosemite right now, and I can't even get it on mine at this point without PAYING FOR IT. Really, Apple?  This ought to have been MUCH simpler.
The only thought I have is turning OFF family sharing on all the mobile devices, trying again, and hoping it works...

On a whim I thought to try your idea to turn off family sharing. I had to turn it off from my iPhone which is running the new iOS.  As soon as I did that I was able to download the upgrade on my MacBook pro without the message to buy the app. It is downloading now, and seems like it should work.

  • I have an older mac, i purchased Snow Leopard so that i could upgrade to Yosemite but now it says Snow Leopard is too out of date to update to Yosemite!

So i have an older Macbook that ran Leopard and i was told via Apple that in order to upgrade fully to Yosemite i would first have to purchase Snow Leopard, then i'd be able to update to Yosemite for free. I got the Snow Leopard disc (it was scratched which REALLY ****** me off, since i paid $20, but it seemed to work installing the new OS so whatever), and it's now at version 10.6.3 - i tried to run software updates and it says it's successful, but that i need to restart my computer. Every time i try, the screen just freezes with the desktop image and never restarts. And now i can't update to Yosemite because i need to have 10.6.8! I am very frustrated and not sure where to go from here. Can anyone help?

Don't panic. You can download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1. Then you can access the App Store in order to download Yosemite.
Meanwhile you need to reinstall Snow Leopard properly:
    Clean Install of Snow Leopard
         1. Boot the computer using the Snow Leopard Installer Disc or the Disc 1 that came
with your computer.  Insert the disc into the optical drive and restart the computer.
After the chime press and hold down the  "C" key.  Release the key when you see
a small spinning gear appear below the dark gray Apple logo.
         2. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue
button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
After DU loads select the hard drive entry from the left side list (mfgr.'s ID and drive
size.)  Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.  Set the number of
partitions to one (1) from the Partitions drop down menu, click on Options button
and select GUID, click on OK, then set the format type to MacOS Extended
(Journaled, if supported), then click on the Apply button.
         3. When the formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed
with the OS X installation and follow the directions included with the installer.
         4. When the installation has completed your computer will Restart into the Setup
Assistant. After you finish Setup Assistant will complete the installation after which
you will be running a fresh install of OS X.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.

    Hi Thomas,
I can confirm the problem you are hitting. The XML test trace does not get recognized at all, and it defaults to Eclipse's basic Open File behaviour. I am not sure if it's because the format definition is missing, or if it's because something prevents the trace type from being recognized. I will open a bug about it.
    Thanks for identifying this issue!
In the meantime, if you'd like to experiment with XML analyses, you can also take a look at the example at https://github.com/tracecompass/xml-analysis-example .

  • Can't update iPhoto after loading yosemite

Uploaded Yosemite and can't update iPhoto.  message is that the app was bought by another user or cancelled.  Not true.  What should I do?

How can I get a 'redeem code'?  I have the same problem.
In that case you need a redeem code for iPhoto from the App Store to be able to update.
Obviously you contact App store support - link is on the right of the App store window

  • I cannot run iPhoto after update to Yosemite.  I cannot update iPhoto because the application store does not have any iPhoto update available.  Anyone can advice how to overcome this hassle?

After update to Yosemite 10.10.3 the iPhoto program icon is banned and there is an error message that an update is required to run iPhoto, but the application store shows a message that iPhoto does not have any update available at this time.  There is not even any iPhoto program available on the application store.  Any suggestion on how to solve this annoyance?

Unfortunately, Apple has removed both iPhoto and Aperture from the Mac App Store so they cannot be downloaded anymore. This means you are forced to migrate to Photos (included in OS X 10.10.3) or, if this app does not include features you need, look for a different app.
Not true. Apple has removed both Apps from App Store so you cannot buy them anymore. But if you have any of these Apps already purchased in the past, then you can still download them on your Mac.

Open App Store, sign in with your Apple ID and go to Purchases tab. If you see iPhoto app listed there close down the App Store and do this steps as this is what worked for me:
Open Finder and go to Applications folder.
    Locate iPhoto app
Drag iPhoto app from your Applications folder to Trash (NOTE: Do not emptied Trash yet)
Open App Store app and navigate to Purchases tab.
Click on Install button which is next to the iPhoto app (on the right hand side).
Once iPhoto is downloaded again, test it if its working for you. If all is ok, you can remove your Trash.

  • App store update shows I can't update an app since my Apple ID is not associated with my account on Yosemite

App store update shows I can't update an app since my Apple ID is not associated with my account on Yosemite. How can I just force it to allow me to RE-BUY the app again since I don't even have it to update, but I want it?
Currently, I even though I don't have the app, I am not given the option to buy, only to "update", and when I click on that it either hangs or it complains that it can't since my Apple ID is not associated with my account.

And it was your wife's Apple ID that was used to download and install the Yosemite you are using on this computer? If so then I suggest you need to contact Apple to get his straightened out.

  • I have a new IMAC with a Maverick platform (I can update to Yosemite). I did all graphics on a G5 Power PC (very old), in Freehand (very old)... How can I open old Freehand files on this new Mac? Can I still open and work in Freehand on this new Mac?

How can I open old Freehand files on this new Mac?
Can I still open and work in Freehand on this new Mac?

Let me see if I've gotten this right! You want to remove an account from BOTH machines? Do this for your new machine first, then for the other.
Click the Apple logo on the top left of the screen, System Preferences, Users and Groups (under Systems), unlock the lock in the window if its locked (you need to know the password), select the user that you wish to remove, and click the - sign next to the + sign for Login options. A window will pop up with some options. Select Delete this user and securely, and click 'Delete user'.
After this, do an update from the App Store.
Thats all there is to it.
For the other machine repeat the process except for one thing. Before you delete the user in this case YOU, you will have to give Administrator priviledges to your son bu checking the box 'Allow user to administer this computer'.
Do NOT do anything from Finder ... if you dont know how to fix the consequences of the problems caused.
There is no need to unauthorize your iTunes account on your new machine. Do it on the old machine though.

  • Scared to update to Yosemite, If it doesn't work can you get everything back?

I am currently on 10.6.8. I wanted to update to Yosemite but I am scared to because I do not want to lose all of my files. Is there anyway if it doesn't work and freezes that I can get all of my files back and 10.6.8 back? And if you can get them back, How? I am not that good with technology and I don't want to mess the computer up. Thanks for all of the help, Carl.

You will need to do a good backup (I'd suggest getting the trial of carbon copy cloner, and cloning, not copying, your entire system to an external drive.)  If you simply upgrade over the top of your current system, you are likely to find a mass of incompatible apps, which will need upgrading.
I'd suggest the best thing to do is the following
    a) do the backup (do it anyway, you dont want to lose your files for any reason, never mind upgrading the OS)
    b) check that your hardware is compatible with Yosemite (http://osxdaily.com/2014/06/03/os-x-yosemite-system-requirements-compatible-macs -list/ will tell you)
    c) IF its compatible and after you have made a clone or copy of your current system (even Time Machine would be a better option than nothing at all) you should do a CLEAN install of Yosemite.
    d) If the install goes OK and everything looks like its working the way it should, you could migrate your files and info from your clone or time machine.
    And cross your fingers.

hi alan i run a business on ebay selling photos and negs. i recently installed yosemite and it locked my entire library on iphoto. when i try to download the app to free it from ishop it tells me there is a fault with the app and my  iphoto is frozen. i am basically out of work and finding it very hard to find someone who can help me unlock it.. look at the things being said about this yosemite  locking this.....freezing that... be very careful if you need your business for your livelyhood. the actual performance is really good.....better display ...much faster and well presented but is it worth having parts of your compy put out of action i possibly think not. i am new to this community so hopefully someone reading this may be able to advise us both.....paul

How can I update my Safari 5.1.10 without updating my OS 10.6.8 to Yosemite?

It may seem a bit irrelevant but I also have a question, regarding Safari 5.1.10, just a bit different one that I asked some time ago and will try once again: If I'm a Lion user, can I update my Safari 5.1.7 to 5.1.10? 5.1.7 came with Lion 10.7.5 I'm currently on.
    Much appreciated,
