Can't update Xcode – "You have updates available for other accounts" and other errors.

I have 2 Macs, a 2008 Mac Pro running 10.8.5 and a 2009 MacBook Pro running 10.9.0, soon to be downgraded to 10.8.5. I can't install the Xcode update on either Mac, and I can't update MacTracker on my Mac Pro, which suggests that no updates work at all.
When I try to update, it says "You have updates available for other accounts" and "Sign in to ________ to update applications for that account." I'm already signed into that account. I tried logging out, closing the App Store, and logging back in. Then I tried logging out of both the App Store and iTunes as per a fix I found online, and it gave me "Unknown error" once I tried to update.
Is there a fix for this or at least a regular .pkg I can just install? Honestly, it's easier to update stuff in Debian Linux than on OS X 10.8 and up now.

Please try each of the following steps you haven't already taken, until the issue is resolved. After each step, relaunch the App Store and try again.
1. Follow the instructions in this Apple Support article.
2. If any App Store purchases were made under a different Apple ID, or if the bundled iLife applications were accepted under a different ID, sign in to the App Store with that ID to update.
3. Alternatively, delete the probem applications and re-download them with the ID you're using now. If you haven't already purchased them with that ID, you'll have to do that first, because purchases can't be transferred from one account to another.
4. Select the Purchased tab in the App Store window. If you see an item in the list marked "You have 3 apps to accept," click Accept.
5. Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
/Library/Caches/com.apple.appstore/adoption.plist
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu. A Finder window may open with a file selected. If it does, delete the selected file. You may be prompted for your login password.
Then repeat step 4.
6. Select
Store ▹ View My Account
from the App Store menu bar, then select View hidden purchases. If you're trying to update any hidden purchases, unhide them.
7. Launch iTunes and select
Store ▹ Authorize This Computer
from the menu bar.
8. If you've moved any App Store apps out of the Applications folder, or into a subfolder, put them back. Never move or copy those applications. If you have backup copies of the apps on another volume, unmount it and try to update again.

Boot into Internet Recovery and erase the hard drive, then reinstall the OS.
That will install the original OS that the Mac shipped with. You can then register it under your AppleID and upgrade to Mavericks.

it's also likely that you used two different apple IDs to purchase apps. if that's the case then you simply have to log out of your app store, and log into the other account to update the apps.
from experience it's not possible to syncronise purchased content from two different accounts. but you can always give Apple a call.

You log into the App store using the same Apple ID you used to set the computer up, verify that none of your apps are hidden and that they have all be accepted and then download and install the update

Thanks for you reply.  I'm 99% positive that I'm using the user id and password that I used to set up my computer.  That's why I'm stumped.  I read the solution someone else suggested (type your user name without @gmail and create a new password.  When I tried it, I was asked for my birthday.  It didn't recognize it.  I know I got my birthday correct. Oh well...

  • Problem with update: update available for another account (former owner of thé computer)

I just bought à Mac book from à friend when I want to update : i've got a message that says There is no update available for this account but for theprevious owner of the Mac .
    Thank for help

    1. Create your own account with Admin privileges. If you cant do this, you'll have to call your friend for the password for his account (just so that you can create your own). Once this is done, 2. If you have an iCloud account, then this would automatically update.  Once you are sure that everything is working, delete the old account.

Can you have multiple users for one account? if so how do you set it up.
We are using it for our department and it would be great to see who created what form instead of it being all one name.

Each person should have their own account. You can easily share the forms with other people in your department. You will be able to see who the author of the form is.

  • Do you have hindi fonts for InDesign CS4 and if so how much are they?

Do you have hindi fonts for InDesign CS4 and if so how much are they?

Adobe does offer a few Unicode fonts that support Hindi  I'd expect that you'd be asking for Devanagari fonts, though. Have you ever done any Hindi typesetting? I mean, when we typeset English we don't do it in "English fonts" but in "Latin-script fonts."
There are two main classes of Devanagari fonts - the more common, older fonts where someone took a Latin-script font, erased the characters, and replaced them with Devanagari glyphs, versus contemporary Unicode fonts. The first class are wonky, hard to use, and quite common. If you're in-country you will find lots of ways to buy those kinds of fonts. You also can use them in InDesign without needing any scripts or plugins to turn on the World-Ready Composer. I find Unicode fonts to be much easier to use, to automatically compose according to proper rules regarding behavior of glyphs - but to use them in CS4, you'd need something like World Tools or IndicPlus. I'm a World Tools user myself but if you're going to be doing only Hindi work in CS4, I'd suggest that you look at IndicPlus first.
In short - it's deeper than it looks. If you want to tell us more about what you're trying to do, we might be able to give you better advice.

  • Help! Can't update iwork and imovie because "You have updates available for other accounts".

I recently purchased Macbook Pro with iMovie, iwork keynotes, pages and numbers preloaded in the machine. Now the App Store icon indicates that I have updates available.  So when I open up app store and click update, I got an warning stating " You have updates avaialbe for other accounts - to update this application, sing in to the account you used to purchase it".
I called tech support.  I was told that I must have had another account.  But clearly I don't have another account.  I'm not alzheimer.  If I had another account, I would have remembered it.  I used the same account for ipod, iphone, itune for many many years.  So I went on the support communities for help.  I read some post saying I should add my hard drive to spotlight privacy, then remove it.  I tried it, it didn't work.  Some said I need to enable something by entering a script to the terminal.  I followed the steps, it didn't work. Then some other post said that I should delete the apps, then reinstall it.  So stupidly enough, I deleted keynotes to "TEST" if it works.  Guess what? I completed removed keynotes from my macbook.  I can't even recover it?! At least before I deleted it, I had the old version of keynotes although obsolete, still functional.  Now I removed it, I don't even know how to reinstall it.
So, I'm so update and dying for help.  Can someone please teach me how to make my Macbook understand that I only have one account and let me update iMovie and iwork? Also, how to restore the accidentally deleted Keynotes?
    Thank you!!!

You're just going to have to get back to the support folks with your Apple ID problem - http://www.apple.com/support/appleid/.
They should be able to rectify the problem.

  • You have updates available for other accounts.

    Hello, everyone.
When I first got my Macbook Air, I stupidly registered under my friend's Apple ID in the App Store. I just realized how big of a fool I was when I wanted to update iPhoto and iMovie and it asked me to update it under my friend's Apple ID. I can always ask my friend for his password, but I just want the iPhoto and iMovie to be updated under my Apple ID instead. Is there any way to make that happen?
P.S. I already try the Spotlight indexing thing, but unfortunately, it didn't work. I might give it a try again.
P.S. I really don't want to delete the iPhoto and iMovie and reinstall them because it would cost me when it came in for free in the first place.
Thank you so much in advance.

By using the friend's Apple ID, you have registered the Mac, its OS and the iLife apps to his account. The friend needs to call Apple Care and request that Apple release this Mac and its bundled software from the friend's Apple ID.
    Then you need to delete the adoption plist located @;
    Library/Application Support/App Store/adoption.plst
Restart and after that has occurred you need to open the Mac App Store, sign in with your account's Apple ID, go to the Purchases pane and accept those apps into your account.
