Can't upgrade anything in my system.

Started off this problem with a normal system update. Was notified pacman should be updated first, went to update it:

So, I went to search if it was just a mirror conflict or something. Turns out package query is an AUR package. No problem right, just remove it and reinstall later right?
yaourt -R package-query

Alright, lets install both at once:

I'm kind of stuck now. Do I remove both yaourt and package query? I just don't want to have to spend a whole bunch of time unnecessarily fixing things. I just want to be able to bring my system completely up-to date and at the end of it retain the packages I have.

  • Can't upgrade, becuz original pictures/system gone

I upgraded to iLife 6 without backing up my 4000+ photos. Not smart, but... I got the message that the photos needed upgrading so I acknowledged and then got an error message that told me it couldn't upgrade because it couldn't find a file. and listed the file.
That file WAS on a server that I blew away a long time ago. Anyone have a clue how to remove that reference (and probably more) from whatever database iPhoto uses to store metadata??

I ended up calling Apple. I had to move my iPhoto folders to another machine. Then delete the prefs and restart. After I restarted I was able to import the photos from the other machine. I lost my albums but got the pix back.

    Hi,
    Please try this--
    1. Quit the CC Desktop application by clicking on the 'Tools' icon (top-right) and choosing quit from the drop-down.
    2. Go to C:\Users\<username>\AppData*\Local\Adobe  and rename OOBE folder to OOBE.old.
    Launch CC Desktop application again.
    *AppData is a hidden folder.
    Let me know the outcome.

  • Old version of pacman(in coLinux) can't download anything

I'm trying to use arch in coLinux but I can't upgrade anything because pacman is always trying to get nonexsistant files.
For example, when trying to upgrade glibc, it'll say "No such file 'glibc-2.7-7.pkg.tar.gz'."
So, I went and browsed the repos and found out that all of the files are actually appended with -i686 but for some stupid reason pacman isn't putting this in, so then the file that it should have tried to get would be glibc-2.7-7-i686.pkg.tar.gz.
The version of pacman is 2.9.8.
It's also using wget and I think that's the only tool it can use.
    the Xfer line in pacman.conf is: XferCommand = /usr/bin/wget -T 5 -t 3 --passive-ftp -c -0 %o %u
Is there anything I can do or does someone have to create a new image?

Can't be done.  Someone needs to upload a new image for coLinux, or coLinux has some problems.
While resolving dependancies for pacman 3.1 and right after upgrading glibc to 2.7 (after installing the new kernel and kernel headers), I run into a "FATAL: kernel too old" kernel panic. The only package forced was tzdata.
However, your solution would probably work on a normal install.
I'll just try arch on the partition I was thinking of testing ubuntu hardy on.  Thanks anyways.

  • I got a flashing folder with a question mark. I got a new hard drive and upgraded to 4 gigs and can't open anything or reload the operating system? Help?

I got a flashing folder with a question mark. I got a new hard drive and upgraded to 4 gigs and can't open anything or reload the operating system? Help? FYI: I have been using boot camp with windows 7 and started getting a kernal_data_Page_error and it would reboot windows, i was trying to do a chkdsk on the next reboot, but thats when i started getting this issue. I have put in a new hard drive and went from 2 gigs to 4. I can not get the computer to do anything, even the monitor does not show anything now????

    Prep your new drive:
    Drive Preparation
    1. Boot from your OS X Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button.  When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID (for Intel Macs) or APM (for PPC Macs,) then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Security button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
After formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer. Install OS X.

Can't load App Store on my macBook Pro.  Error is; You cannont open the application "App Store" because it is not supported on this system.  How can I upgrade App Store or download new version?

Problem now resolved as I upgraded to Snow Leopard 10.6.  Seems App Store doesn't like anything previous to 10.6.

  • Can I upgrade the processor on my laptop? If so, what processors are compatible for my system?

I have an HP Pavillion dv6-2150us, which runs an Intel Core i3 @ 2.13 GHz, 8 GB RAM and Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit.  Can I upgrade this processor and if so, what processors are compatible to this system?

First think about memory and an SSD drive. Laptop processor upgrades are a big hassle and not cheap.

You need iTunes 10.7 or later.

I recently changed my email address and want to change my Apple ID account to match. I can't make any changes on iCloud on our phones because it directs me to the old account, which I can't sign into. I also can't sign me in on my computer to make any changes. Help!!! Is there a way to get these back?

Well, that's kind of embarrassing. And I honestly thought I paid attention to that... It works perfectly now, thank you so much!
As expected, cdm-git also works fine since DMs only work in the root mode as of now.
Just for the record, both type commands output "/usr/bin/startx" and pacman -Q gives "systemd 215-4".

  • I recently upgraded to iTunes 11. Big Mistake. Now I can't play anything. I'm on a Windows PC. Any help or suggestions?

I recently upgraded to iTunes 11. Big Mistake. Now I can't play anything from iTunes. When I click on it, it appears to be playing, but no sound at all.
Also, I keep getting asked to "authorize" this computer (which I've been using for more than 2 years). When the dialog box comes up, it includes an e-mail address what I used over 6 years ago. When I attempt to change the e-mail address, it tells me I'm already authorized.
PLEASE HELP! Or, just tell me how to get iTunes 10 back - that works well!

A computer requires authorisation to play content. If you have bought content using 2 Apple IDs over the years you need to authorise the machine for both Apple ID accounts.

My Mac has a OS X operating system. (10.6.8) How can I upgrade its system to Mountain Lion so I can then add the ICloud? Also, does the ICloud include virus protection for files already on my Mac?

You can purchase and download Mountain Lion in the App Store (in your 'Applications' folder), then just run the installer: however you should first check that Mountain Lion can indeed run on your Mac. Please see this page:
    http://www.apple.com/osx/specs/
You might also want to look at this page to see whether any vital applications will be adversely affected:
    http://roaringapps.com/apps:table
In particular note that PPC applications such as AppleWorks will not run on Mountain Lion since Rosetta is not included and can't be added.
