Can't upgrade applications or Apple Security
I installed leopard in november and ever since have seen many problems with my access and privileges. It used to be simple on previous versions, or at least I didn't run into problems like I do now. On 10.4 I only remember setting privileges for myself and for others, but you could add more if you wanted. Now I have to set privileges for me, staff, and everyone- which i figured out that everyone includes me so that's basically a worthless option. And sometimes there are two (2) everyone's, which confuses me. Also, sometimes I can write in some folders and sometimes I can't, which also doesn't make sense to me. Another problem I am having is upgrading anything. I swear that these privileges seem to randomly change so when I try to upgrade something, even directly from Apple, it says that I don't have sufficient access to some files or folders. I can't fix that, either. This whole ACL privilege system is confusing me because no matter what I do, it doesn't seem to work!!! PLEASE HELP!!!
I'm pretty sure that some upgrade along the way has fixed this. I have not run into this problem for quite some time now, but thank you for your help

How can I easily change my apple security questions
About July of last year, I decided to purchase a $15.00 iTunes card. Since then, I've yet to be able to use it because I've yet to be able to find a way to change my security questions. I would be fine and happy if it weren't for the fact that, no natter what I do when I try to figure out how to change the questions, I get redirected to other pages that have no useful information or links that I can click to actually change my security questions. Mind you, I've been battling with this for nearly a year, and I've been tempted many times to just create a new iTunes account, but I feel that losing my money would be absolutely useless. I also feel that Apple Co. should be obligated to easily help their costumers in matters that aren't that uncommon, but that's a different story for a different time. Anyways, I've basically tried everything.
So, in turn, does anyone have any way in the world that I can easily change my security questions without having to be redirected to so many different pages that my browser can't support/show them all? All kinds of help are greatly appreciated.I see what you mean. I don't think it's so much as the fact that it's "redirecting" me to all of these different pages, but more so the fact that it tells me to click these links, which normally turns out to be a link that I've more than likely clicked prior, and it takes me to a page that Ive already been on. The cycle restarts itself and I eventually get frustrated.

HELP! Can't boot after latest Apple Security Update (Released yesterday?)
The latest security update, which came out yesterday (I think it's this update: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305530 ) has ravaged my Mac.
I have a PowerMac G4 Dual 1.25 MDD.
I installed the update, and rebooted like it said.
Once the computer came up, it got past the grey screen with the spinning wheel, the screen turned blue, right before it should present the login window... and then the grey (translucent) curtain slid down from the top, and a box in the center told me to hold down my power button and restart my computer.
Now this happens EVERY TIME I TURN MY COMPUTER ON.
I HAD a PERFECTLY RUNNING MAC BEFORE I INSTALLED THIS UPDATE. NOW IT'S COMPLETELY UN-USABLE.
HELP! HELP! HELP!
WHAT CAN I DO TO FIX THIS?
I'm searching for bootable discs to try to get the Mac to come up so I can look at it. I haven't tried going in through single-user-mode (command prompt) yet. I came here first, because I need support FAST!!!
By the way, before this update, I was completely up-to-date with my Apple patches/updates. I was running 10.4.9 (I don't remember the Build #, but I was CURRENT).
Thanks in advance for any support (Apple?!?!)Ladies and Gentlemen:
Sorry for the alarming post. I'm replying to my own post to let everyone know that I don't think the problem is the Security Update alone. For lack of anything better to do, I decided to try troubleshooting this problem by myself... and here's what I did:
I booted the Mac in to Single-User mode, by holding down Command-S. Once in, I forced fsck to pass verification of the drive (fsck -fy). Then I mounted the root partition in Read/Write (mount -uw /). Once I had write access to the drive in the command prompt, I quickly decided to check out what applications and services were starting when my computer boots (/Library/StartupItems ; /Library/LaunchDaemons). From there I removed all third party applications and services. (I maintain a "StartupItems-Disabled" folder, and a "LaunchDaemons-Disabled" in the spirit of pre-OS X machines that had something similar in the System folder for extensions and control panels (if my memory serves me)... so that's where I put all the applications and services that I didn't want to boot (I moved them from the respective folders in to the "-Disabled" folders I had created).
Anyway... after removing all the third-party software and services from Startup, I rebooted, and my Mac came up just fine. I'm going to sift through the logs to see if anything was written about what happened at boot all those times. With any luck I'll figure out which application or service wasn't playing nicely with the OS and/or Security Update.
Good luck with your own endeavors. It's always scary when your Mac doesn't boot, so I hope this doesn't happen to anyone else (especially someone less technically inclined). I'll check the forums later to make sure no one else had similar problems... because I'm sure I could help them get to the bottom of their troubles.
Cheers! -
How can we move the 'application data\apple computers' folder to another location
We use roaming profiles and the Application Data folder is stored on a network drive with restricted space (500MB). This has not been a problem in the past but since we've been rolling out iPad's & iPhones, this restriction is becoming a problem as iTunes download's ios updates and stores device backups in 'application data\apple computers' folder (and not in the media library).
Does anyone know how we can move this 'application data\apple computers' folder to another location or force iTunes to store the downloads/updates in the media library (which can be moved)?
Thanks very much in advance for any help.Move the iTunes Library elsewhere, launch iTunes with the Shift key held down, and point it there.

Can't download an application from the net because of an apple security block
MacBook Pro C0*******3UG 1TB Os 10.9.5
I can't install an application from the net because of some Apple security block. How do I remove or get around the block? The instructions in help say to double click the application and all that happenes is that I get the same window saying I can't install.
<Edited By Host>It's usually not necessary to change any security settings, and as a rule you shouldn't.
To make a one-time exception to the security policy, follow these instructions. They apply to Installer packages and other installable items as well as applications.
Some defective software installers may fail when Gatekeeper is enabled. Think carefully about whether you really want to run such an installer. If you do, temporarily change the setting to
Allow applications downloaded from: Anywhere
When the installation is done, revert the setting.
Some applications that don't have a developer signature have been reported not to launch the first time unless Gatekeeper is disabled. The warning message from Gatekeeper is that the application "is damaged and can’t be opened." Again, think carefully about whether you want to trust the application. If you do, disable Gatekeeper as above, launch the application, and then re-enable Gatekeeper. If you still get the warning, delete the application. -
I recently upgraded my device and can't make purchases because I forgot the answers to the apple security questions. How can I reset these?
Thank youIf you have a rescue email address (which is not the same thing as an alternate email address) set up on your account then you can try going to https://appleid.apple.com/ and click 'Manage your Apple ID' on the right-hand side of that page and log into your account. Then click on 'Password and Security' on the left-hand side of that page and on the right-hand side you might see an option to send security question reset info to your rescue email address.
If you don't have a rescue email address then see if the instructions on this user tip helps : https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-4551 -

I have restarted machine several times.
I have run the disk utility to repair permssions and this makes no difference.

i buy a macbook air with my friend and i changed the apple id also.at first i can update the application but now its impossible to update the application.when i clock to update it shows the id of my fren andsomebody do you have idea to solve this problem.
The first thing to do with a second-hand computer is to erase the internal drive and install a clean copy of OS X. You — not the previous owner — must do that. How you do it depends on the model, and on whether you already own another Mac. If you're not sure of the model, enter the serial number on this page. Then find the model on this page to see what OS version was originally installed.
1. You don't own another Mac.
If the machine shipped with OS X 10.4 or 10.5, you need a boxed and shrink-wrapped retail Snow Leopard (OS X 10.6) installation disc from the Apple Store or a reputable reseller — not from eBay or anything of the kind. If the machine has less than 1 GB of memory, you'll need to add more in order to install 10.6. Preferably, install as much memory as it can take, according to the technical specifications.
If the machine shipped with OS X 10.6, you need the installation media that came with it: gray installation discs, or a USB flash drive for some MacBook Air models. For early MBA models, you may need a USB optical drive or Remote Disc. You should have received the media from the previous owner, but if you didn't, order replacements from Apple. A retail disc, or the gray discs from another model, will not work.
To boot from an optical disc or a flash drive, insert it, then reboot and hold down the C key at the startup chime. Release the key when you see the gray Apple logo on the screen.
If the machine shipped with OS X 10.7 or later, you don't need media. It should boot into Internet Recovery mode when you hold down the key combination option-command-R at the startup chime. Release the keys when you see a spinning globe.
2. You do own another Mac.
If you already own another Mac that was upgraded in the App Store to the version of OS X that you want to install, and if the new Mac is compatible with it, then you can install it. Use Recovery Disk Assistant to create a bootable USB device and boot the new Mac from it by holding down the C key at the startup chime. Alternatively, if you have a Time Machine backup of OS X 10.7.3 or later on an external hard drive (not a Time Capsule or other network device), you can boot from that by holding down the option key and selecting it from the row of icons that appears. Note that if your other Mac was never upgraded in the App Store, you can't use this method.
Once booted in Recovery, launch Disk Utility and select the icon of the internal drive — not any of the volume icons nested beneath it. In the Partition tab, select the default options: a GUID partition table with one data volume in Mac OS Extended (Journaled) format. This operation will permanently remove all existing data on the drive.
After partitioning, quit Disk Utility and run the OS X Installer. You will need the Apple ID and password that you used to upgrade. When the installation is done, the system will automatically reboot into the Setup Assistant, which will prompt you to transfer the data from another Mac, its backups, or from a Windows computer. If you have any data to transfer, this is usually the best time to do it.
Then run Software Update and install all available system updates from Apple. To upgrade to a major version of OS X newer than 10.6, get it from the Mac App Store. Note that you can't keep an upgraded version that was installed by the previous owner. He or she can't legally transfer it to you, and without the Apple ID you won't be able to update it in Software Update or reinstall, if that becomes necessary. The same goes for any App Store products that the previous owner installed — you have to repurchase them.
If the previous owner "accepted" the bundled iLife applications (iPhoto, iMovie, and Garage Band) in the App Store so that he or she could update them, then they're linked to that Apple ID and you won't be able to download them without buying them. Reportedly, Apple customer service has sometimes issued redemption codes for these apps to second owners who asked.
If the previous owner didn't deauthorize the computer in the iTunes Store under his Apple ID, you wont be able to authorize it immediately under your ID. In that case, you'll either have to wait up to 90 days or contact iTunes Support. -
I bought my iMac from someone. Everything was changed over to my name however when I try to update programs it only shows the old users apple ID and I can't update. How do I change this so I can update the applications and have everything fully under me?

3. Other issues
If you see a lock screen when trying to boot from installation media or in Recovery mode, then a firmware password was set by the previous owner, or the machine was remotely locked via iCloud. You'll either have to contact the owner or take the machine to an Apple Store or another authorized service provider to be unlocked. You may be asked for proof of ownership.
If the previous owner "accepted" the bundled iLife applications (iPhoto, iMovie, and Garage Band) in the App Store so that he or she could update them, then they're linked to that Apple ID and you won't be able to download them without buying them. When trying to create a new iCloud account, you might get a failure message: "Account limit reached." Apple imposes a limit of three iCloud account setups per device. Erasing the device does not reset the limit. You can still use an account that was created on another device, but you won't be able to create a new one. Contact iCloud Support for more information. -
I have an older I Mac operating system 10.6.8 and want to upgrade. I've been told that the only upgrade available for my machine is 10.7.5. On what website can I find this upgrade or how do I find this upgrade on the Apple website?
Choose About this Mac from the Apple menu, check if the computer has at least a Xeon or Core 2 Duo(not Core Duo) CPU and 2GB of RAM, and if it does, click here and order a download code for Lion 10.7.
Back up your data and check your applications for compatibility before upgrading. In particular, Mac OS X 10.7 and newer don't support PowerPC programs such as versions of Microsoft Office prior to 2008.

Can I use parted magic to secure erase Apple SSD?
Recently, I have bought Apple SSD128GB (Toshiba HG3 serie) to upgrade my MBP 15" early 2011. It's a second hand drive of my friend so I want to do secure erase by using Parted Magic for improving the performance as factory reset. I have heard about Parted Magic that it will do secure erase by sending ATA command to drive's controller (If I'm not wrong) but some people mentioned OS X Lion has Trim support that needs not to do secure erase. Now I don't know which ones is correct answer and can I use Parted Magic to secure erase this drive. Please give me your ideas.
I don't know, but I doubt it can be done using Disk Utility. I suggest you consult the user manual for it or see if there is a Reset option in the onscreen menues. If you don't have a manual, then you will find one at http://support.apple.com/manuals.

I have an HP Printer/scanner, and since upgrading to Mountain Lion I can no longer scan on my HP. HP tells me that I can get an upgrade app from 'Apple Software Upgrade' . Does anyone know how to do this?
HP couldn't find its own apps with both hands and a flashlight.
As of Lion all scanning functions are incorporated natively in OS X. You can scan three ways:
Use Preview: File > Import from scanner
Use Image Capture
(Preview and Image Capture are both in your Applications folder.)
System Preferences > Print & Scan. Select your HP and use the Scan tab.
If you have HP's "Image Zone" software installed, you no longer need it and it no longer works anyway. -

I would like to get some upgrades to my iMac. Running slow although I added some memory (3G memory). Besides it takes a long time to download videos (little circle running for a while). This is the info:

Total Number Of Cores: 2

<Edited by Host>If you stick with Tiger you can't upgrade Safari, but your Mac can run Snow Leopard OS 10.6, and you don't need to have Leopard 10.5 first.
The OS 10.6 Snow Leopard install DVD is available for $19.99 from the Apple Store:
http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
and in the UK:
http://store.apple.com/uk/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
but nobody knows for how long it will be available.
When you have installed it, run Software Update to download and install the latest updates for Snow Leopard, up to 10.6.8.
Be aware howver that some of your existing applications may not work with Snow leopard, so check that first.
