Can't upgrade from 10.5.8 to 10.6

I currently am running 10.5.8 on my MacBook, and purchased a 10.6 disc, however when I insert the disc it prompts me to restart my computer to begin the installation process. When the computer is done restarting a message comes up saying "Mac OS X Server 10.6 cannot be installed on this machine. Please consult the documentation for the list of supported Macintosh Computers." When I go to look at the list I have all the critera for 10.6 to be installed.
Anyone know what could be the issue?

I don't think you can install 10.6 OSX Server on a MacBook.

  • How can I upgrade from Infinity to 56K dial-up?

I have had Infinity for about a month. At first everything was great, 38Mbps. I am about 25m from the cabinet where the optical fibre is terminated so I expected this to be quite consistent.
Seven days ago the speed dropped to about 5Mbps and over the next 12 hours or so dropped even further. The last time I managed to get a download speed measurement I recorded a speed of 28.2Kbps (yes, that is Kilobits). I have not had a speed as low as that in almost 20 years. Currently the BT speed tester is not working, I suspect my speed is too slow for it. The BBC speed tester reports my speed as being 0Mbps.
I have called the BT help line every day since and have been told today that it has finally been escalated to the BT Openreach Engineering Dept. I am told that an engineer will visit me in 3 days time to fix the problem. Why has it taken a week to do this and why can somebody not do something quicker? Is BT Infinity so bad that all the engineers are running around trying to get it to work. People always go on about Microsoft getting customers to test their products, I think BT are doing the same thing with a product which is obviously not suitable for it's task.
This is absolutely awful customer service. Seven days for a succession of "support engineers" a few thousand miles away reading from a prepared script is not my idea of looking after customers.
I cannot express how this has changed my opinion of BT.
A few years ago I worked for a major supplier of satellite communications equipment. BT were one of our first big customers. We had to jump though so many hoops before we installed the equipment it was unbelievable. The system was tested to death before it entered service. What has happened to this level of quality control?
To reiterate the subject heading - how can I upgrade from BT Infinity to 56K dial-up?

    Hi Satcomman,
Welcome to the forums! I'm sorry to hear of the problems you're having with your speeds. If you could fill out our contact webform (you can find the link in my profile under "about me") and include details of your home network setup, I'll be able to run a few checks and hopefully find out where the problem lies.

  • Can I upgrade from iPhoto '08 version 7.1.5 to iPhoto '11 on my Macbook Pro (10.6.8) without upgrading to Lion? or iPhoto '09...

Can I upgrade from iPhot '08 (ver 7.1.5) to iPhoto '11 on my Macbook Pro (OS 10.6.8) without upgrading to Lion or iPhoto '09?

You should only get that message if you are attempting to install the same version of iPhoto that is already on your computer.
Should you upgrade your current version of '08 (7.1.5) to anything higher, including '11 (9.2.1), it will upgrade your current library with all your photos and not create an additional application or library.

That is a free update (not an upgrade) what happens when you try? How are you trying to update? did your Mac come with restore disks or did you download software form teh App Store? Have you logged onto the App store and checked purchased software for updates?

  • How can i upgrade from iphoto 7.1.5 to 8.1.2 on an older iMac running OSX 10.6.8 ?

How can I upgrade from iphoto 7.1.5 to 8.1.2 on an older iMac running OSX 10.6.8 ?

With the above listed config that I have (iphoto 7.1.5 on an older iMac running OSX 10.6.8), how can I move my iPhoto library from this old iMac (2006) to my NEW iMac (2011) that is running iPhoto 9.5.1 ?
To open an iPhoto 7.1.x version in iPhoto '11 you need to run the iPhoto Library Upgrader. See this Support document:
iPhoto '11: About the Library Upgrade
Download and install the upgrader,  then run it on your iPhoto 7.1.5 library. After that, iPhoto will be able to open your library and upgrade it to version 9.5.1. And you will be able to merge the libraries with if Library Manager.

  • How can I upgrade from OSX 10.7 to 10.9 on my 2012 mac mini? (2.3 GHz, 4 GB, 500 GB SATA disk) I don't want OSX Yosemite.

How can I upgrade from OSX 10.7 to 10.9 on my 2012 mac mini? (2.3 GHz, 4 GB, 500 GB SATA disk) I don't want OSX Yosemite.

If your Mini shipped with OS X 10.7 Lion, then it was considered a 2011 build model, or before.
The Mini 2012 model, is considered a Late 2012, & the last one where RAM could be upgraded.
And it shipped with Mountain Lion 10.8, which is a fairly OK system if one had older software.
(However mine shipped in Dec 2014, with Mavericks 10.9.0, and was built in January 2014.)
There were a few different build versions of Late 2012 Mac Mini, the i5 or i7 processor,
in dual-core or quad-core, and some CTO or built-to-order versions with other specs.
You can buy Mountain Lion from online Apple Store, & use a download code emailed to you to
get the Mt. Lion 10.8 from Apple Servers; this would be about it, since Mavericks isn't available.
So hopefully that is an option you can exercise; in addition the computer may prefer more RAM.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • I can't upgrade from IOS 6.0.1 to IOS 7.1.1. iPad says it has downloaded IOS 7.0.3 but cannot verify the installation. Cannot restore or update in iTunes either. Help please?

I can't upgrade from IOS 6.0.1 to IOS 7.1.1 on my iPad 2. iPad says it has downloaded IOS 7.0.3 but cannot verify the installation if I try and install it. It claims that I have lost internet connection, which I have not. I cannot restore or update the iPad in iTunes either, if I try to, I get an error message which says that I 'do not have permission to access the requested resource'. I am using the latest version of iTunes on Windows 8. I have tried putting the iPad in recovery mode and restoring it with iTunes, the result is the same.
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks!

    @Rudegar
Thanks for the reply, but I've been having this problem for well over a week. If it is a corrupt download, is there some way of deleting it from the iPad and getting a new one?
    Thanks

  • Can I upgrade from Adobe Acrobat 6.0 Standard (on an older PC) to 6 or newer on a new HP Pavilion23?

Can I upgrade from Adobe Acrobat 6.0 Standard (on an older PC) to 6 or newer on a new HP Pavilion 23?

You may be able to do some work arounds with AA6 on 32-bit systems. You are probably out of luck with AA6 on 64-bit systems. (I got AA5 working with some workarounds on Win7, 32-bit) As for the upgrade, you can check at the Adobe store for the upgrade compatibilities. I think it is now at AA9, maybe AA8 for an upgrade. So, you are kind of stuck with buying a new version (no upgrade).

  • I can not upgrade from 10.2 to 10.6 because of missing "itunes.msi" file.  How do I repair it? I can not remove itunes and start over.

I can not upgrade from 10.2 to 10.6 because of missing "itunes.msi" file.  I can not delete ITunes and start over either.

Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from the following page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
To install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

  • How can I upgrade from Lion OS X to Mountain Lion OS X

Hi my question is "How can I upgrade from Lion OS X to Mountain Lion OS X?"
I don't want to lose any data from my current Lion OS X, at the same time I don't have enough external HDD to backup. I tried to do the same was as http://www.apple.com/osx/how-to-upgrade/ says but I didn't get Mountain Lion OS X as an option for update.
    Pleade advice,
    Mustafa

Well, right.  In 99.99% of cases you shouldn't lose any data.
But if something goes wrong, well, if you don't have a backup you're SOL.
You truly don't have ANY drive that you're using for Time Machine?
FYI: It's not a matter of IF, but WHEN, your hard drive will fail.  It will eventually happen, so you should have a backup, unless you don't have any data you care about.

  • Can I upgrade from 4.2.1 to 4.3?

Can I upgrade from 4.2.1 to 4.3 on my iPod touch?

You haven't bothered me at all. I just don't see why you are bothering to post all of this.
Can you name some other small electronics maker who does not have their products eventually not be able to be updated, or run updated software?
As things got smaller and cheaper products were left behind even faster. In the Windows world it worked a bit differently, your computer might run the latest Windows software but you had to check to see if the software you were buying was supported by the hardware you were using. Didn't have a Pentium processor?, sorry you can't use the latest version of __________.
Smartphones, tablets, etc. have just accelerated this process. I have one friend who's first smartphone purchase was a Nexus. And how many OS upgrades did he get to do on this phone? 0. Nada.
It is just a fact of electronics. The Touch version 2 just doesn't have enough RAM and graphics power to run the newer OS and apps. And this will keep happening with every smartphone as it is now the pioneer product and is easy to get caught on the bleeding edge. Welcome to the new world.
I liked it better when you built your own and could upgrade the parts in your computer to maintain some level of compatibility. But laptops came along and it was much harder to upgrade them, then you couldn't do it at all. I could at least increase the RAM in the desktops I built, I was much more limited with the laptops, and the smartphones, tablets, et. al are manufactured to such tight tolerances there is no hardware upgrade. So as software needed more RAM back in the day I just added RAM. But how do you do that in an iPad or a Touch? Or should the programmers be restricted from offering anything new?
Get used to it, it will get worse and there is no competitor you can go to in order to avoid it.

  • Can you upgrade from 1.3.0.20 small ovf to 2.1 without migrating to a new server? It sounds like you can just adjust the server settings now.

Can you upgrade from 1.3.0.20 small ovf to 2.1 without migrating to a new server? It sounds like you can just adjust the server settings now. I am currently running 1.3.0.20 and I have enough to do with also needing to upgrade my wlc to 7.4.121.0 and getting the MSE up to 7.4.121.0 without having to stand up a new server if I don't have to. Please share any information you have in regards to your experience with coming from a version 1.2-1.3 small ovf and going to 2.1.
    Thanks,
    Andrew

You are better off standing up a new server.  It's cleaner and safer..... you can always try to upgrade if you wish, but if things don't work out well, then you just wasted a lot of time.  Snapshot the VM and export the floor plans, just in case.  The ova is built around the DB size, so I don't know how well the DB will perform if you try to expand memory or drive space after an upgrade.
