Can't upgrade Macbook Pro to OSX Yosemite

Hi - I've been trying to update my MacBook Pro Mid 2009 to OSX Yosemite.  After dowloading and running the installer, it goes through the process of preparing the installation, closing all programs and preparing to restart. Then I get this error.
I've tried:
-Running the application again
-Redownloading the Yosemite software multiple times
-Checking for updates
-Running the Yosemite installer with wifi off
-Repairing disk permissions to the hard drive
-Verifying the hard drive disk
-Installing a new version of Mavericks
Any ideas?

Perhaps the HDD does not have sufficient room.  It needs a minimum of 5 GB for Snow Leopard.
In all other respects your MBP should be able to install 10.6.
Disk MC223Z/A is the appropriate retail disk.
Ciao.

There is no upgrade to iPhoto with OS X 10.10.3 - here was an update to version 9.6.1 a few months ago and Photo 1.0 was added with 10.10.3 - what software and which version are you having trouble with - iPhoto or Photos?

  • How do I remove Spyware - conduit and trovi from my MacBook Pro?  OSX Yosemite is my operating system.

I using a MacBook Pro - OSX Yosemite, Version 10.10.  I appear to have web browser issues.  I am experiencing constant Ad Pop Ups when I surf the web.  In addition, when I open new tabs, my default page changes to "bing".  I checke the url and it has a "trovi" address.  An Apple tech referenced an Article "HT6435".  I can not find it in my searches.  My searches take me to pages that I am not looking for.  It appears that I need to eliminate the unwanted files.  Can anyone help.

It is a pain.  The Apple Tech referenced Article "HT6435".  He said that it may be available in this forum.  I used Google Search to no avail.

  • Can I upgrade MacBook Pro hard disk drive next year?

Hi there!  I'm new to the Apple Support Communities!
I am going to buy a new 13" MacBook Pro, 2.5GHz.  I am going to buy the base model, with a 500GB 5400 RPM hard disk drive.  Right now, I can't afford a 256GB solid-state drive, but I'll have enough for one by later next year.  So, I will have done some stuff on my Mac by the time I can upgrade it. I know how to install the drive itself, but how do I transfer my information?
    Here are the issues:
    1) I don't know how I would make it so I could boot from an external USB.
    2) And I don't know how to get all my personal information from one drive to the other.
For "2", I think I could back up my Mac to a hard drive with Time Machine, and then restore from a backup.  But Time Machine couldn't back up the whole OS, right?  And what would the procedure be anyway?  Just turn it on when I'm done the upgrade?
If someone who has done this before could provide step-by-step instructions, I would really appreciate it!
    Thanks,
    Solid-State Me 

Yes you can replace the hard drive at any time.  Purchase a replacement drive from any store you like - newegg or mcetech are good stores (among many others) - and when you purchase the new drive, also purchase a drive enclosure.  Then download a program called "super duper" and follow the instructions to use that software.  When your drive arrives, put the new drive in the enclosure, plug it in to your computer and run "super duper" with the option to "make the drive bootable" and let it finish.  What it's doing is copying your drive onto the new drive.  Once the copy is finished, you can shut down your computer, remove the drive, install the new one, and put the original drive into the enclosure.  Now you have an external hard drive that is repurposed instead of throwing it away.  Keep that drive intact for a few weeks without erasing or adding data to be sure you are happy with the new drive and how it performs.  After that, use the drive to store files, backup the internal, transfer stuff, whatever.

  • Can't boot macbook pro after installing yosemite

I installed Yosemite last night. Installation went smoothly, but when the mac reset and try to boot the loading bar on the black screen with the apple symbol, didn't move for hours.
I have been keeping up to date with the other post on here and have tried
    - Reseting the PRAM
    - Booting in recovery mode and turning off the wifi
    - Reinstalling Yosemite from recovery mode
    - Booting  in safe mode and removing all of my login items
Currently every time I reset, the loading bar on the black apple logo screen stops in one of three spaces.
Does anyone have any other ideas? I have my files backed up so if it comes to it I can reset the mac, but I hope it won't come to that.

You might try to reboot and hold the option key down to see if the screen illuminates.  If it does then you can choose from an external disk or your main drive.

    About Lion Recovery
    Recovery System
OS X Lion or OS X Mountain Lion includes a built in set of utilities in the Recovery System. Restart your Mac and hold down the Command key and the R key (Command-R), and keep holding them until the Apple icon appears, indicating that your Mac is starting up. After the Recovery System is finished starting up, you should see a desktop with a OS X menu bar and a "Mac OS X Utilities" application window. Note: If you see a login window or your own desktop and icons, it is possible that you didn't hold Command-R early enough. Restart and try again.
In order to reinstall OS X Lion or OS X Mountain Lion, you will need to be connected to an Ethernet or Wi-Fi network. The Wi-Fi menu item is in the upper-right corner of the screen. Click the icon to display all available Wi-Fi networks. Click your preferred network name and, if needed, enter a username and/or password.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
What do you mean by having no access to those apps? Can you start up your Mac and work with it, and only some OS X apps do not work?
Anyway, what you can try is to reinstall OS X. To do this, hold Command and R keys while your Mac is starting up and reinstall OS X. You will not lose any file.

  • I can't get Macbook Pro DVD drive to read my Windows 7 upgrade disk.

I have a 15" Macbook Pro running OSX 10.6.8.  I have been trying to upgrade the OS in my VMWare Virtual Machine from XP to Windows 7.  However, when I insert the upgrade disk, it just spins for a few minutes and then tells me the disk is a blank disk.  I  tried it with the drive tied to the VM XP OS, but that did not work and got the same result.  I then tried the disk in a PC I have and it seems to work fine there.  Also, I have tried other disks in my Mac drive (e.g. DVD movies) and they seem to work as well.  I am not quite sure where the problem is.  Any ideas?
