Can't Upgrade my G4 from 10.2.8. to 10.4....

I have a G4 Dual 533 (digital audio) PowerPC with an external USB LG DVD rewriter attached to it. It is running 10.2.8 and I want to upgrade it to 10.4. I have the full Tiger install and when the OS X install disk and open folder appear on the desktop I do as I normally would and double click the installer icon. It then prompts me that I need to restart the computer to start the install process. I click restart , enter my "administrator" information, the computer reboots and goes right back to the same desktop and asks to do the exact same thing over. It never starts the install. I have installed it on my eMac G4 with no problems. It was the same upgrade, from 10.2.8 to 10.4 Tiger. It says in the manual the requirements are a G3 or G4, running at least 10.2 and enough hard disk space is all that is necessary and I have all that. Any ideas as to what the problem is and how I can up grade this computer to Tiger???? Help and Happy New Year!

I've always been under the impression OS X doesn't officially support booting from USB drives, only FireWire ones, although I think some people have noted it can work. I expect that may be the main problem, it can't boot from the external USB DVD drive.
Alternatively Apple offered an exchange program for $10 where you could swap your Tiger DVD for some CDs. I guess you could also install one of the latest internal dual layer DVD/CD burners such as the Pioneer DVR-111D for around $40. Finally if you've got another Mac with a DVD drive you may be able to use FireWire target disk mode to mount the hard drive that's in your Digital Audio onto the other Mac, effectively as an external FireWire hard drive, and perform the install from the other Mac that's got the DVD drive:

I am new to the Apple Support community but am hopeful that you can help me!! I have just bought a MacBook Air, migrated my stuff and found that my Quicken for Mac 2005 is no longer supported. (I still have my Quicken 2005 working on my Mac OS X - Version 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard?) I saw a thread of communications back in 2012/13 where you helped a lot of people find ways to get their 2005 data into new versions - something about a $15 purchase. However, I can't find those discussions again. AND I don't know if they are 'relevant' because I'm now using the latest Yosemite, which someone just told me to upgrade for free....But this same person told me to switch to iBank, which others who have used Quicken for years didn't like. I'd just as soon stay with Quicken but it seems like they have less support for Mac users. Do you think I can move my data successfully still? I live and work overseas and leave the USA on Monday and am trying to leave my older MacBook Air (the one with my 2005 Quicken on it) here....

I have bought numerous Adobe products over the years and would have expected a bit more accommodation when wanting to upgrade. It was not that I'm unwilling to pay the princely sums you ask for your programs, but you could at least give loyal customers some consideration, say a 10% or 15% discount to "upgrade." Well, since you don't, won't, and will not even consider it, I will never purchase another Adobe product!
I know I'm only a very small drop in the bucket, but I do plan to tell my friends, and they'll probably tell their friends, and so it goes. You'll probably never even notice it, but I hope that you remember that you have got to treat your customers right and honorably, no matter how little they spend!

There are only two versions of Snow Leopard, the ordinary one and the server edition. Most people have no need of the server edition. Any Snow Leopard retail disc, no matter how old, even 10.6.0, can be updated to 10.6.8, so the version is pretty much irrelevant. You need to make sure your hardware is up to scratch for Lion though - you have to have an Intel processor, Core 2 Duo or better - NOT Core Duo.

Officially NO. You can't upgrade to main Photoshop CS6 software unless you have already bought the previous versions of Photoshop (CS4, CS5, CS5.5). Not sure what made you ask this question. If you want to buy Photoshop CS6 then you could try Educational version but this only applies if you are in some form of education at a recognized School, College or University or you have children attending the education system.
Also, if you are going to do lots of work in Photoshop then it is a good idea to buy the full product now so that future versions can be upgraded on a regular basis.
