Can't upgrade my macbook pro to the recent Mac OS...

I have problem with my macbook pro 15 inch, that i bought in mid 2009.
Before the problem, i can upgrade my laptop to Mac OS 10.6 without buying the OS upgrade. But after it has problem and i reinstall it with a DVD which comes with it. i can update it only till Mac OS 10.5.8. and when i launch the update manually, it mention it was the latest os for my mac.
Do anyone know how to deal with this problem? please tell me what i can do to upgrade my laptop. all your ideas is appreciate... thanks in advance!!!

That will not update you from 10.5.8 to 10.6.x, as you seem to believe it should. 10.6 is only legally obtained by buying it (or buying a machine with it installed). So what I'm saying is that if you downloaded something that upgraded you from 10.5 to 10.6, it was illegal. But I suspect that your memory on this point is faulty, and that you either installed 10.6 from a disk that you no longer have and don't remember having or you didn't actually have 10.6. Or, one other possibility - if you had your machine in for service at some point, it's not unheard of for techs needing to reinstall the system to install whatever system is close at hand without consideration for what system you actually own, and people have ended up with 10.6 after a repair when they had 10.5 before.

10.6.8 is Snow Leopard.
Depending what model your MBP is, it might not be a wise choice to bloat it with 10.7 or 10.8, especally since it won't run any PPC based software or hardware drivers your using.
Apple Menu > About this Mac > more information should show a model number like "MacBook Pro 4,1"
then download and install MacTracker, punch that in to find your machine and the latest OS X version you can run.
If your machine originally came with 10.5, I serious suggest you stick with 10.6.8

so I stay on amazon when it comes to new components for my MacBook Pro, just to see the products that could potincally help me operate the system batter or anything along those lines. So today I went on just to browse and stumbled upon the "intel core i7", now I had originally thought that whatever module you had gotten would be it unless you wanted to shell out another few grand for the i7..
Upon findind this product it occured to me that maybe I could perchase the i7 processor and then simply install it however need be to upgrade to the i7 without the purchase of another MacBook Pro. If you want to change the CPU, it is not only the cpu you will have to change, the bus, the controller, ending up in the main board completely, the firmware module, etcetera. Very interesting but twice as expensive as the whole computer.

I plan to upgrade the hard drive in my MacBook Pro (MBP) to a solid state drive (SSD). I also plan to remove the SuperDrive in the optical bay.
I have to install a new firmware on the SSD. Installing the firmware requires the SuperDrive.
I intend to remove the SuperDrive after installing the firmware. I'm using a Early 2008 MBP (Pre-Unibody). This MBP is a difficult to dismantle and assemble.
Can I run the MBP (to install the firmware in FreeDOS) without reattaching the top panel (which houses the keyboard). Or can I just lay the top panel on the MBP without screwing it down. Will either of these actions damage my MBP? Once I've installed the firmware on the MBP, I'll reattach the keyboard.
I don't want to dismantle the MBP (to insert the SSD), assemble the MBP (to install the firmware with the CD in the SuperDrive) then disassemble the MBP again (to remove the SuperDrive).
I'd rather dismantle and assemble the MBP once.

I am unaware if the power button is dedicated. Seems like you're on the right track with iFixIt. I figure as long as USB is available, it should be okay.

I can't upgrade my Macbook Pro to Mountain Lion and then Maverics

It all started with trying to get the latest version of Aperture. I'm running ver 3.4.5 and want to upgrade to ver 3.5. Well it now seems that to upgrade to ver 3.5 I need to upgrade to Maverics, but since Im running Lion ver 10.7.5 I need to upgrade to Mountain Lion first.
No matter what I clik on or check I'm getting messages saying my Macbook Pro - a 17" 2007 model intel 2.33GHz Core Duo won't upgrade to Maverics and I can't find a link to download to Mountain Lion any longer.
This is very annoying as there is nothing wrong with the Mac and I only really use it for Aperture.
Does anyone know if there is a way to upgrade to Mountain Lion and then Meverics? I really don't want to have to buy a new Mac.

I am a Graphic Designer and use some very heavy bound software for rendering and running multiple memory munching applications everyday.
Lately my macbook pro has been increadibly slow. I have seen allot video on youtube of people upgrading their rams to 16GB. I was wondering of my mac can operate that too.

I have a Macbook pro 2011 15" and since I am into composing music I use Logic Pro and Native Instruments which require quite some RAM accessing & loading complex samples and effects. I was wondering if I can upgrade the ram to 16gb or even more eventhough Apple indicates 8gb as max RAM upgrade. I read some contadictory information. some say that Macbook pro will support 16gb. What if I upgrade will it damage my system?

I'm trying to format my macbook pro using OS X 10.5.8. I've tried all the instructions that I could find, but still no luck.
Instructions examples:
1) Go into disk utility and erase the hard drive.
Problem: when I do that, it doesn't let me because the erase button is in the "greyed", so I can't click on that.
2) Restart the computer and hold down "c" and follow the instrctions...
Problem: I did that, but it just restart normally, it doesn't take me to some special screen.
3) Restart with the Mac OS CD installer and hold down "c" as it reboots.
Problem: same as number 2.
4) Restart and hold down "option" - disk utility - erase HD
Problem: I did that, and the hard drive icon with the arrow pointing up pops up; however, when I click on it, it just boot up as usual, and when I go into disk utility, I had the same problem as number 1.
This is really frustrating!! Please help!!

That only works for other drives/partitions, you can't format or erase the boot drive/volume/partition obviously.

No disk inserted, you need a bootable disk to use the c key at boot.
3) Restart with the Mac OS CD installer and hold down "c" as it reboots.

Perhaps you held it too late.

The option key held at boot gives you Startup Manager, which gives you a choice of bootable options provided the boot cd is inserted obviously.
If you didn't wait for the cd boot option to appear and clicked the hard drive and arrow right away, it's possible you missed the cd boot option as it takes a bit longer to appear on the screen.
If you went all over the above and can't boot from the 10.5 cd, then what likely occured is your operating system was upgraded to a later OS X version like 10.6 or later and the firmware has been updated to ignore booting or recognizing that 10.5 boot disk as that operating system is now obsolete.
Another option is your using the wrong 10.5 disk, like it's from another model of Mac with different hardware drivers, thus can't be used on your machine.
Sometimes the disk is a retail copy, but is only for compatible Mac's that came PRIOR to the release of the retail disk, obviously not for Mac's that came afterwards because of new hardware drivers not on the burned disk.
If your machine is on 10.4, it might not have enough RAM for 10.5.
If your machine is on 10.5 now, then you should be able to boot from the disk that came with the machine, unless it's defective, scratched or dirty.
If your Mac is a Intel processor Mac, then you should be using 10.6 at least now, it's still getting updates to 10.6.8 (not for Safari or Java 6, but you can disable both and use Firefox)
Usually a 10.5 issued Mac is too old for the later OS X versions of 10.7 and later, perhaps the MacPro tower being the rare exceptions.
OS X 10.4/10.5 need to upgrade, 10.6.8 ok still
Also usually a 10.5 era issued Mac is beyond it's end of life stage, likely to die soon and not worth spending great sums of money to upgrade RAM and all software for 10.7 and beyond, your better off buying a new machine for 10.7+ or use it on 10.6.8 max until it drops dead or sell it online.
You didn't state your Mac's model identifier, it can be gleamed from System Profiler or Apple menu > About this Mac > More information.
With the model identifier, current operating system version running and the RAM amount installed, we can look up the machine on our database and recommend a course of action or if you cannot install 10.5 on that machine.

I have a Macbook Pro bought June 2007 (I thought late June so should be the mid-2007 model) but am not sure it can be upgraded to Mountain Lion. I checked the tech specs and my processor looks like the late 2006 model, i.e. 2.33 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo. Does anyone know what makes the 2006 model incompatible for Mountain Lion?

10.6.8 is the best for operating system performance on that machine anyway.
If you want 10.8, buy a new machine is the better choice.

It all depends on which MacBook Pro model you have - I have a late 2011 and have upgraded to 16GB of RAM and a SSD, shortly after I received my 'new' MBP in April. You'll notice great speed differences in memory-hungry apps if you upgrade your RAM but you'll really be amazed at the shear speed of an SSD.
You should consider what's really slowing you down before making any upgrade - I can't imagine running on 4 GB of RAM these days, but then I can't imagine running without my SSD either. If I were you, I would first make the least expensive upgrade - RAM - taking your MBP to it's maximum, and then look at SSD options.
