Can't Upgrade or Uninstall Lightroom 1.0 on WinXP

When I try to upgrade to 1.1 the installation stops about halfway through the progress bar after clicking the "Install" button...
... during "Removing applications" I am prompted with a dialog box asking for the "Use source:"
"The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable.
Click OK to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder container the installation package 'Adobe Photoshop Lightroom.msi' in the box below."
It's trying to find it in my c:\temp folder... which MIGHT have been the location I originally installed the software from since I downloaded it from the web as version 1.0 while waiting for my CD with serial number to arrive.
So I pop in my LR1.0 cd and point it to the Adobe Photoshop Lightroom.msi and it says .. nope.... not valid.
Then it'll tell me it can't be removed and it can't be installed.
So now here I am deciding between gutting Lightroom out of the system manually via the registry -- or asking for some more help... anybody dealt this this? The support forums come up empty on this issue...
Help is appreciated. Thx.

Ryan,
Since I could not find any clues on how to fix this problem, I decided to remove all the lightroom files from the "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop Lightroom" folder and delete that lightroom folder. Then I used regedit to remove all entries that mentioned "lightroom" (make sure to uncheck the "match all string only" box in the search dialog in regedit. Then I ran RegClean to remove any orphan registry entry. I also made sure to save the lightroom database (.lrdb) file to another place.
After that the stupid lightroom 1.1 installer was happy to install it, found my database, updated it and when I started lightroom 1.1 it took me to the last file I was looking at with version 1.0
Hope this helps,
Marc

  • Can neither install nor uninstall Lightroom 5.7 after a crash. Win7-64bit

Yesterday I downloaded and ran the Lightroom 5.7 installer but my machine crashed during the install. After that I could not run the installer again, just got an error saying "Error applying transforms. Verify that the specified transform paths are valid.". I then tried to uninstall it from Control Panel but that also says the same thing. I tried to manually remove it and re-run installer but still the same thing.
Next I logged on to this site and ran the Creative Cloud, the updater there also gets me an error as below:

What should I do to get rid of Lightroom so I can install the 5.7 version?
(I tried using the chat support but as soon as the representative start chatting I get a message saying the chat is closed and I can no longer send anything.)

    Hi Jeff,
    Thank you for your reply.
No, I am not using Windows. I’m using Yosemite 10.10.2 on a MacBook Pro.
I ended up trashing (There was no “Uninstall" option) my old Lightroom (which was 5.7), reinstalling Lightroom 5 and then upgrading it to 5.7. Now seem to be working alright.
I uninstalled Creative Cloud 6 and went back to using CS5, using Lightroom to render the files, since I can’t use the latest Camera Raw versions with CS5, so I could work on them in Photoshop. Not an ideal solution. I wouldn’t mind upgrading to CC6 but not if it messes up everything else.
Quite honestly, I don’t understand why an Adobe user should have to depend on other Adobe customers for answers about Adobe problems. Adobe should have a strong customer support group to handle these problems, particularly when they are caused by Adobe. I have been an Adobe customer for at least 10 years. I like the products but the customer support needs to be improved. Apple does a better job.

Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from the following page (use one of the links under the thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
To install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select anyiTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

  • Can I use the Lightroom 5 Upgrade on a Lightroom 4.4 Student and Teacher edition?

    Hi there,
I currently own a Lightroom 4 Student&Teacher edition. I am pretty happy with it, but thinking about upgrading to the 7D Mark II which is not supported by Lightroom. I am only a student for a very short while longer so I either have to buy a LR 5 Student&Teacher now (which could be a close call due to my student status running out in two weeks) or buy the upgrade version later. (They pretty much cost the same) But I don't know if my version of Lightroom can be upgraded. I do remember there used to be limitations in place not letting you upgrade, but as far as I remember this was a Photoshop limitation. Couldn't find any hard facts about this however, so any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks
    Manu

To be clear, you only need to qualify as a student to purchase your initial version of Lightroom. Once you have that serial number that begins with 1160, you qualify to purchase any and all upgrades in the future at the upgrade price. If Lightroom 4 is still installed on the computer, then the upgrade installer will find the Lightroom 4 serial number and you will only be required to provide the new serial number for the upgrade. If you decide to purchase a new computer, which will probably happen at some point in the future, then Lightroom 4 will not have been installed and you will need both the Lightroom 4 serial number as well as the serial number for the upgrade installation.
We see a lot of people coming to the forums and say that they no longer have their serial number and want to install Lightroom on a new computer. Serial numbers are critical, and should be recorded in multiple places. One of the best ways to make sure that you can always access your serial numbers is to register your software after it has been installed. Then you can always access your Adobe account and retrieve required serial numbers. But as a safeguard, it would be a good idea to store serial number files on multiple hard drives and even in a physical card file. Without the serial numbers, it's like having a new car and no key to start it.

If you use the organizer, you need to buy the boxed version of PSE 12. You can usually find it at big box stores and online retailers for less than adobe's upgrade price, if you shop around. You need the boxed version because you get a serial  number that works on both platforms, and you will need to install PSE 12 in windows first, upgrade your catalog, then make a full backup to a removable drive and restore from that to the mac, after installing PSE 12 there.
If you don't use organizer, it doesn't matter.

  • How can I upgrade lightroom 2.7 to 3.7 or 4 ?

    how can I upgrade lightroom 2.7 to 3.7 or 4 ?

Which operating system are you running?
Given the (old) age of the version numbers you're quoting, it's possible that your operating system may be too old to run Lightroom 5 or 6.
    System requirements | Lightroom
So you may need a new computer before you upgrade your software.

  • Can I upgrade to CS6 from Lightroom 4.2 or Adobe Premier Elements?

Can I upgrade to CS6 from Lightroom 4.2 or Adobe Premier Elements . . . or both?

I know it's a bit late to respond, but wanted to tell you what I think of Adobe's support.
I have bought numerous Adobe products over the years and would have expected a bit more accommodation when wanting to upgrade.  It was not that I'm unwilling to pay the princely sums you ask for your programs, but you could at least give loyal customers some consideration, say a 10% or 15% discount to "upgrade."  Well, since you don't, won't, and will not even consider it, I will never purchase another Adobe product!
I know I'm only a very small drop in the bucket, but I do plan to tell my friends, and they'll probably tell their friends, and so it goes.  You'll probably never even notice it, but I hope that you remember that you have got to treat your customers right and honorably, no matter how little they spend!

    Hi,
I work for a company that has offices worldwide, but do not have the budget to upgrade all licences which is why I need to keep InDesign/Illustrator CS3.
I wish to switch from Final Cut Express to Adobe Premier Pro/After Effects (I don't like the new Final Cut Pro X - for many reasons)
Can I upgrade to Master Collection CS5.5 without uninstalling Design Premium CS3?
