Can't upgrade past v7.6.2.9-

I'm posting this here in anticipation that I won't actually hear from Apple. I sent them the same thing below. Let me know if you have any thoughts!
I can not get my shows purchased from iTunes Store to show up under my ‘TV Shows’ on iTunes. Let me give you a background:
I've been on iTunes 7.2.6.9 version, then got the notice to upgrade to 8.2 and really put it off for about a month. So I ended up downloading the 8.2 software. The install started but then I got this message shortly after the installation started, "There is a problem with this window installer package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package vendor."
So, I back out of the installation. Following the six bold steps found on the following troubleshooting page (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1926) I am still unable to upgrade to 8.2. I even went as far as booting into Safe Mode and removed iTunes and other said files in the troubleshooting steps, but no luck. I've even used the MS Uninstaller to remove iTunes then tried installing 8.2, no luck, again. I even searched out new versions than my 7x but less than 8.2 and tried to install 7.7, 7.7.1, 8.0 and also 8.1 and I get the same error message as I mentioned above for all four! But as soon as I re-installed 7.6.2.9, no problem with installation!
So, I decided to reinstall Ver. 7.2.6.9. After figuring out how to move the iTunes Library.itl file from the previous version (which couldn't be read because it said it was from a newer version) I had to take an older version and repopulate ALL covers to my library! Matter of fact, the "Get Album Artwork" doesn't even work now! That’s how I’ve populated all my albums before. Even with the most popular or old albums iTunes tells me that no artwork can be found (which is a joke because out of 160 albums without covers, it couldn't find not one!). So, if you know why that's not working, I'd like to hear about it and how to fix it. Because, I then had to go out to Google Images and search for ALL 160 albums, take screen shots and update the album info by importing the image. That was ridiculously time consuming. But I digress...
Ok, now that I've re-established all album covers (on my own) I'm finding that none of my TV Shows that I purchased via iTunes Store have been populated. So, my first attempt was to "Add Folder To Library" thinking that if I just point to the ITUNES/TV SHOWS folder it would populate all that’s in there. Well, it pops up with the 'Processing' window and I see it reading each of the TV Shows, but then the window just goes away and nothing more. No shows appeared in the TV Show folder of iTunes Library. So, I try, "Import...", no luck there either. Next, I try, "Add File To Library," thinking I'll have to go the long way around and import one at a time (another ridiculously time consuming step). But, I couldn't even get that far. After selecting the file, nothing happens!
Then I thought I could move the TV Shows from the iPod back to iTunes by way of, "Transfer Purchases from 'name of iPod.'" Well, it read the iPod but didn't notice anything different on iTunes if it actually transferred anything. If it did transfer those files purchased, where does it put them?
So, now I'm at a loss. My first issue is I can't even upgrade to 8.2 (let alone to 7.7), which I suspect would solve all these problems. But I can't even get the install to fully work. I have taken a WMV of the steps of the installation in the event anyone wants to view it to see what I've described above. If you know of the error mentioned above and knowing that I've done all the troubleshooting steps the site recommended what would you recommend? In the past, the only thing I've had to do when upgrading is simply remove iTunes. But this time around, not even uninstalling the current version works with installing the new version.
Now, I have TV Shows on my hard drive but iTunes won't process them correctly to show them in the Library. Why? I can't figure it out. So, given I have tried all option under the FILE drop down in iTunes, I am at a loss. I only come to those of you who use iTunes and are more familiar than I am. But again, maybe one of you can provide support on the grand problem of upgrading to 8.2 which may or may not solve the problem of the TV Shows.
Thanks

This message often relates to a problem with Apple software update.
Go to Add remove programs and find Apple Software update. Try repairing it.
Select Change>>repair.
If that works, try installing iTunes.
Otherwise try uninstalling any instance you find of Apple Software update. That probably will not work if repair didn't.
Next try an installer cleanup.
Download and install Microsoft Installer cleanup utility, there are instructions on the page as well as the download. Note that what you download is the installer not the program – you have to run it to install the program.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301/
To run the program – All Programs>>Windows Install Cleanup
Remove any instance you find of Apple software update with the cleanup utility.
Download a fresh copy of the iTunes installer and save it on your desktop.

Restart your computer and try installing iTunes

I am contemplating purchasing an iPad, and then possibly a Macbook pro.  Currently, I have an iMac G5, and a Powerbook G4.  Neither which can be upgraded past Leopard.  My question is do I need to have Snow Leopard in order to be able to update an iPad? Do I need to reverse my thought on which to buy first?
I plan on keeping the iMac and PB until they cease to work ( have replaced HD's on both already).  I mostly use the PB-- lots of writing, surfing, email, etc.
    Your thoughts?

The minimum Mac specs (from http://www.apple.com/ipad/specs/) are :
Mac computer with USB 2.0 port
Mac OS X v10.5.8 or later
iTunes 10.2 or later recommended (free download from www.itunes.com/download)
    iTunes Store account
    Internet access
So you only need Leopard, not Snow Leopard

  • Can't upgrade past 10.6.8 - how do I get the best out of my mac?

    Hi everyone,
This is my first ever time posting in this community since purchasing my Mac in 2008, it's been that good!
My problem is that I currently live in Peru (from Australia). Macs are ridiculously over-priced here in this country and because I live on savings, upgrading at this time is not going to happen. I'm building a website for my business and because Safari 5 is so out of date, it's not showing the site properly when I make changes (using wordpress). In addition, my computer is very slow and I have regular meetings with the spinning ball of death.
I've tried to clear out as much junk from the computer as I can to speed it up and I am now looking at installing Firefox because of the Safari issues, which is going to just add more bloat to an already sluggish system.
I ran an EtreCheck on my system and I'm hoping one of the good people in the Mac community may be able to tell me if there are any glaring issues/viruses etc that stand out which could be causing me any problems? I've done as much as I can within my limited knowledge of soft and hardware Heregoes...Thank you in advance!

    Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase a redemption code at the Online Apple Store: OS X Mountain Lion. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. Use the code to redeem a download of Mountain Lion from the App Store. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion - System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 7,1 or later.
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) - Model
                 Identifier 5,1 or later.
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later.
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 2,1 or later.
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later.
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later.
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later.
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.

    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mavericks, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion at the Online Apple Store. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor

I have been using iCloud since it came out to coordinate my schedules from my phone, ipad and Mac laptop.  Last week they stopped synching...I can't upgrade past OS 5.1.1. b/c of memory (1st generation iPad and iPhone 4s). Could this cause the problem after the release of the new OS?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
First check that all your settings are correct, that calendar syncing is checked on all devices (system preferences > iCloud on a mac and settings > iCloud on a iPhone, iPad or iPod).
Make sure the calendars you are using are in your 'iCloud' account and not an 'On My Mac', 'On My Phone' or other non iCloud account (you can do this by clicking/tapping the calendar button in the top left corner of the application ), non iCloud calendars will not sync.
If you are sure that everything is set up correctly and your calendars are in the iCloud account, you might try unchecking calendar syncing in the iCloud settings, restarting your device and then re-enabling calendar syncing settings.

Works if I do it over iTunes on my desktop.

  • How do I skip upgrading itunes? I used to have an option, now I can't get past the upgrade for free screen!

I have been trying to access the itunes store for a week now but can not get past the screen to upgrade for free.  I do not want to upgrade, I tried but can not install the free upgrade because I am using 10.2.2.  I do not want to upgrade I just want to get to the itunes store... how do I get past this screen?  There used to be an option to skip the upgrade.

I have an iMac G5 with a pre-Intel processor.  My current OS is 10.4.1.  When I open my iTunes store function, I get an upgrade to iTunes 10.5 page that does not allow me the opportunity to refuse the recommended upgrade and I don't want it because my processor is not the Intel processor.  I can't get past this page to access the iTunes store.  I can't find iTunes 9.2.1 online to download, if that is the only solution.  I can't believe Apple is forcing me to purchase a new iMac in order to continue using iTunes on my current iMac.  I'd like a good answer and solution to this problem.

  • Why can't my 2006 MACPRO OS be upgraded past 10.6.8?

Im trying to install Adobe LR 5 that I already purchased a product key for. (non refundable) LR5 needs 10.7.0 or higher. Apple is saying that I can't upgrade my OS past my current 10.6.8! WHY NOT! I know its "older" but it still works better than 98% of the windows based computers out there!
Does anyone know a work around to this problem or did I just blow $120.00 ... unless I buy a new computer.
Anyone interested in LR 5 product key... let me know... I'll sell it cheap.

Your computer CAN go to 10.7, but no further, according to this document:
System requirements for OS X Lion and Mac OS X v10.6
    OS X Lion system requirements
To use Lion, make sure your computer has the following:
An Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
Mac OS X v10.6.6 or later to install via the Mac App Store (v10.6.8 recommended); you can install without Mac OS X v10.6 by using an OS X Lion USB Thumb Drive [no longer available]
7 GB of available disk space
    2 GB of RAM
If your Mac does not meet these requirements, you will need to upgrade your Mac before installing Lion.
To obtain 10.7 Lion, you will need to CALL the Apple Online store and purchase a download code they will email you in a day or two.

  • My sons ipad is older and will not upgrade past ios 5.  can someone help me with this?

my sons ipad is older and will not upgrade past iOS 5, therefore he is unable to download certian games.  does anyone have any suggestions or help that they can provide to me regarding this software issue?

The original iPad cannot be upgraded beyond iOS 5.1.1. It simply doesn't have the hardware. There are still lots of apps in the App Store that will run on iOS 5.1.1.
You can also try downloading the apps he's interested in to iTunes on your computer. Then, go back and try to download them on the iPad. If the developer makes an older version of the software available, you'll be given the option to download that. Note that not all developers continue to offer older versions.
