Can't upgrade to 10.6 from 10.4 ??

Hi,
I have been trying to upgrade from 10.4 Tiger to Snow Leopard on both of my machines (Macbook Black/ MacPro Quad, both circa 2007) and cannot for the life of me. The disk asks 'click to start the installation process' and then after requesting the admin password, restarts back to my normal screen. I have tried burning the disk image from the original Snow Leopard DVD to a commercial DVD just to see and didn't make any difference. Once I received a ' MAC OS cannot be installed on this computer' sign but even that was for once on both machines. Don't get it. They are both Intel and should work like a charm.. I have tried starting up from the DVD by pressing 'D' upon restart but even that didn't help. The only option I have left seems to be trying 10.5 first but don't wish to fork out for nothing if that wouldn't work either.
Any of you guys experienced such a thing? Any thoughts will be appreciated.
Cheers.

You've been had. Only Snow Leopard officially retail from an authorized dealer with the head of the Snow Leopard on the disc as I showed in the image above will work with your machine. If you bought from an official retail shop and they gave you the wrong discs, tell Apple legal that:
http://www.apple.com/legal/
Since those iMac discs are only licensed for use with the machine they came with.
Otherwise, next time, only buy from authorized dealers.
Apple has prebundled discs which are different than the ones sold separately as operating system discs at their retail outlets and third party authorized retail outlets. They are designated for specific Mac models and vintage of the Macs that meet the drivers prebundled, including a hardware test specific to that model, and sometimes extra prebundled games applications.

    Hi,
No, its not a valid path to upgrade from CS3 to Acrobat 11. You need to contact Adobe Chat Support to return the Acrobat 11 you bought.

If you are currently running an iOS lower than 5.0, connect the iPad to the computer, open iTunes. Then select the iPad under the Devices heading on the left, click on the Summary tab and then click on Check for Update.
Tip - If connected to your computer, you may need to disable your firewall and anitvirus software temporarily.  Then download and install the iOS update. Be sure and backup your iPad before the iOS update. After you update an iPad (except iPad 1) to iOS 6.x, the next update can be installed via wifi (i.e., not connected to your computer).
Tip 2 - If you're updating via wifi, place your iPad close to your router to preclude getting a corrupted download.

Upgrade Paths to Snow Leopard, Lion, Mountain Lion, or Mavericks
You can upgrade to Mountain Lion or Mavericks from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99. To access the App Store you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or later installed.
    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard — Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s iCloud services; fees and
               terms apply.
    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mountain Lion, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service — this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
Upgrading to Mountain Lion or Mavericks
To upgrade to Mountain Lion or Mavericks you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion or Mavericks (Free) from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion — System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) — Model Identifier 7,1 or later

                 Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) — Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later

  • How can I upgrade to Lion again from Snow Leopard?

My Macbook Pro (Late 2011), was shipped with OSX Lion but due to some software compatibility issues, I downgraded my OS to Snow Leopard, but now that software is fully compatible with OSX Lion and Mountain Lion, how can I upgrade to Lion again?

    Hi Viaixtapa, well long story...
I phoned the number above and purchased a license.  The process worked fine, the Apple Tech took my particulars, I received an email right away acknowelging my purchase and one from the Tech giving me his details so that I could come back to him if I needed help.  But when I went to download Lion it would not download because I do not have the requirements to load it, mine is an Intel Core Duo instead of an Intel 2 Duo or later.
The clerk in the Apple store in Vancouver checked the details of my machine and told me I could load it if I upgraded the memory.  But apparently that was incorrect.  The Tech I who sold me Lion checked too and said no, my iMac is not capable of supporting Lion.  So a plus and minus answer.  I did get Lion, but was unable to load it, yours is a 2008 model so you should have no trouble.  Why not try the number or the international website above from Steve, nothing ventured, nothing gained.  I will just keep saving my pennies toward a new iMac!!

  • Can I upgrade to Mountain Lion from Leopard for free?

    Hi Apple Support,
I was in the Apple, Covent Garden store the other day and an assistant said that I could upgrade to Mountain Lion from Leopard for free in one CD. He told me to call a number which I did and the assistant over the phone had no idea about this offer.
Can someone dispell the confusion for me?
    Thanks

You can't. The Mountain Lion upgrade is only free for people who purchased a new Mac on or after July 26 without it installed, and all of the computers which fall into that category shipped with Lion, not Leopard.

    Hi jjhron;
As Stedman says you can't go to Snow Leopard with your G4 PowerBook but if your PB meets the specs for Leopard you can upgrade to that instead.
