Can't upgrade to 10.8.5. Stuck during downloading.

Hi all,
I am using 10.7.5.
Recently I purchased 10.8.5. During download something went wrong and download (3-4 hrs) couldn't finish.
I tried resume, but again something went wrong.
[I suspect my new WD passport backup drive with sleep timer 30 min (default) was making full system misbehave. I was trying TM backup in parallel.
Now I have set the sleep time from 30 mins to Never. iMac seems normal again.]
Frustating part of story is that Appstore -> Purchases shows OS X Mountain Lion and button against it. There is no text over this button.
Now I am not able to continue the download. If I attempt to purchase it fresh, it says "update is free because you own a previous version of this item. To get this update now, click OK."
On pressing OK, nothing happens.
Check for unfinished downloads, doesn't show this item.
Now I am stuck. Any help.

To update on the situation:
I maintain few different logins on iMac to keep admin separate from normal users. (hangover of Windows exp, where admin login can spoil OS very fast).
I was initially trying as a normal user and admin priviledge whereever required.
After facing above endless problems, I gave a try using admin login. During login to iTunes, it shown me a setup/info page. I spotted a unhide purchase options. THERE IT WAS !!!
My OS X Mountain Lion was marked as hidden. iTunes has marked my purchase as hidden. So that explains "no text" on button. I changed the option to unhide and the text on button appreared.
I could start a fresh download.
Surprisingly Apple Support didn't mention it in their answers.

You need Snow Leopard before you can go to Lion...
Check that your Mac meets the System Requirements...

  • Can't upgrade to Safari 4 release - stuck at Configuring Installation

OK, so i've read all topics I could find on this subject (both on and off this forum), and have tried them all, but to no luck.
    my 2 problems:
    - Automatic (software update) Safari 4 release update gets stuck on configuring installation (and yes, I've deleted all "updates")
    - Manual download of safari 4 update gets stuck on configuring installation as well
I used to have safari 4 beta on my computer.
I've tried to delete anything I could find related to safari of my computer in hopes it would pass the configuring stage.
    All other updates/programs install fine.
anybody with the same problem who's found a solution ?

    Hi
seems that the safari installed ALSO checked the receipts on the drive "G5". Since this was an old PowerMac G5 drive, it might have gotten the wrong idea.
You need to "repair permissions" via Disk Utility in your Applications>Utilities folder.
tried to re-install 10.5.7 combo update, but this stalled at "configuration installation" as well
The problem with Safari may be symptomatic of other problems on the Mac. A reinstall of the OS using Archive & Install may be the next logical step to resolve the issues cropping up here.
    Hi starman
See step 1: I've done a repair permissions on all drives already.
I understand that re-installing OS will solve all this most likely, but since that's a 2-3 day process (with re-installing approx 100 apps, authorizations etc.) I rather find other means to fix this first.

  • I can't update Firefox. It seems stuck on downloading 3.6.4. I have an IMac G5 with OS 10.5.6

I get a message that Firefox can't install an update so will download the entire file. A screen appears with an installation progress bar which never goes away.

If there are problems with updating or with the permissions then easiest is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.
Download a new copy of the Firefox program and save the disk image (dmg) file to the desktop.<br />
You can find the latest Firefox release here:
    *Firefox 3.6.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
*Trash the current Firefox application to do a clean (re-)install
*Install the new version that you have downloaded
Your profile data is stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder, so you won't lose your bookmarks and other personal data if you uninstall and (re)install Firefox.

  • Apple Software Update gets stuck during download.

My daughter was updating iTunes with ASU and we lost power. Now the download gets to about 11MB, gets stuck, and never finishes. It will sit at 11MB forever. I've tried deleting the files in the installer caches, I've tried repairing ASU.
    Anybody have any ideas?

Hello, I IPAD3 to upgrade 6.0 system, rear camera can not open up, open the camera stuck in the rotating screen

Try a Reset [Hold the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons down together for 10 seconds or so (until the Apple logo appears) and then release. The screen will go blank. Be patient, the device will power ON again in the normal way. It is app and data safe!]

  • CAN'T UPGRADE BECAUSE CAN'T AFFORD FC STUDIO, SO OTHER PROBS ARISE!

This is a problem which is building one step at a time, and it begins with OSX upgrades. I had to stop at 10.4.8 because - as a long-time user (professionally) of Final Cut Pro, upgrading beyond that renders many aspects of my version (4.5 HD) useless along with DVD Studio Pro, Compressor, etc. (those bundled with it). I found out the hard way, and had to downgrade back to 10.4.8.
However, now items such as my Address Book, iCal and Mail - which I use because of the compatability issues we all used to love about Macs, are not sync-able on .mac. The systems says I must have the 'latest version' - which is part of the new operating system (which I can not upgrade to!)
Therefore my .mac account, my ability to access the info I need when at a remote location, all are stuck in the water because Mac will not 'support' Final Cut Pro 4.5HD... I appreciate how good Final Cut Studio is: I have purchased it for school's I work with and used it myself at work locations, but personally, the $699.00 upgrade to FC Studio is not feasible for me at this time. The $199.00 upgrade was offered only until March of this year - and it was not brought to my attention until it was too late and unaffordable.
Does anybody have any ideas? I am looking for solutions.. and appreciate your input.

Thanks for the input; you are all correct - especially Gig - in that FCS is a significant upward change. I have used it, purchased it for some schools and kick myself every day i didn't get the 199 update info in time. i know they offered it for a while, but I was changing residences and missed out. I begged Apple to make an exception, but they refused. It's business. Truthfully, i need to just suck it up and get the FCS and yes - more gigs, Gig!
For now, live with my woes...most of work currently is done through a day job in the business, so my side businesses are not the priority any way. As you said G, I am sure I could make it back fairly quickly...
    So quit whining, BH Weber!
    Thanks as always guys...

  • Can't upgrade ipod touch to ios 5 beta 2?

Hi everyone! I recently tried to upgrade my firmware from ios 5 beta 1 to ios 5 beta 2 (I have a developer account, paid the $99 and everything).
The upgrade to beta 1 from 4.3.3 was pretty much flawless. When I tried to upgrade to ios 5 beta 2, it seemed to work until the last step, at which point the ipod touch was off and could not be turned on. When connected to a computer, it said it was stuck in recovery mode. I couldn't switch my firmware in Organizer any more, not even back to beta 1.
I restored down to 4.3.3 again cause I figured it would wipe the whole thing and let me upgrade back to beta 1 at least. That much worked, I have an ipod with 4.3.3 on it.
Now when I try to upgrade back UP to beta 2 or even beta 1 again, I get this error: "Could not allocate buffer (file exists)" and the ipod goes back into recovery mode, and I must again restore down to 4.3.3.
What file is this, how can I delete it, and how can I upgrade again to beta 2? This ought to be the last time I need to upgrade with a wired connection, since all updates from Beta 2 onwards are OTA as far as I know.
I was quite fearful of "bricking", but a friend who is far more familiar with the inner workings of the ipod touch than I am has assured me that since the computer detected it in recovery mode, it wasn't a lost cause.
I was originally attempting the install from a slightly older version of Xcode, which is probably the root cause of this problem and I am now kicking myself.
    Thanks for the help!

  • Can I upgrade from Adobe Acrobat 6.0 Standard (on an older PC) to 6 or newer on a new HP Pavilion23?

Can I upgrade from Adobe Acrobat 6.0 Standard (on an older PC) to 6 or newer on a new HP Pavilion 23?

You may be able to do some work arounds with AA6 on 32-bit systems. You are probably out of luck with AA6 on 64-bit systems. (I got AA5 working with some workarounds on Win7, 32-bit) As for the upgrade, you can check at the Adobe store for the upgrade compatibilities. I think it is now at AA9, maybe AA8 for an upgrade. So, you are kind of stuck with buying a new version (no upgrade).

  • Can i upgrade my dual 1.8 G5 processors?

was wondering if i can upgrade my dual 1.8 G5 processors to dual 2.5.
is it something i can do or am i stuck with my current set up? if so what can i do to speed it up? i have 2GB ram. new 500GB HD with the current 80GB hard drive.

Out of curiosity, what is the limitation for the upgrades? Does each logic board get "calibrated" for a specific processor type?
The bus speed on the motherboard is fixed, and the G5 processor runs at double the bus speed. Therefore, each motherboard can only be used with one specific CPU speed. So, you can only "upgrade" the processors by replacing the motherboard as well.

  • Can we upgrade the graphic card on macbook pro 13 inch mid 2012

I just bought my macbook pro 13 inch mid 2012. I am wondering can i upgrade the graphic card to NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M discrete processor with up to 1GB of video memory?

Nope - you're stuck with the Intel 4000. If you wanted a higher-performance GPU, you should have bought a 15".
    Sorry,

  • Can I upgrade Memory of MacBookPro w/Retina Display?

I have a mid 2012 MacBook Pro with Retina display.  It currently has two 4GB memory (8GB).  Can I upgrade it to two 8GB (16GB)? Can I do it myself or do I need to take it to Apple store for the upgrade?

With a Retina model, you're almost always stuck with what you ordered. As stedman1 write, the RAM cannot be upgraded - it's soldered onto the logic board. You can, however, replace the flash storage in your model -> up to 960GB (as far as I'm aware). So if you need more storage, it's available for your model.
