Can't upgrade to Safari 4 release - stuck at Configuring Installation

OK, so i've read all topics I could find on this subject (both on and off this forum), and have tried them all, but to no luck.
my 2 problems:
- Automatic (software update) Safari 4 release update gets stuck on configuring installation (and yes, I've deleted all "updates")
- Manual download of safari 4 update gets stuck on configuring installation as well
I used to have safari 4 beta on my computer.
I've tried to delete anything I could find related to safari of my computer in hopes it would pass the configuring stage.
All other updates/programs install fine.
anybody with the same problem who's found a solution ?

The problem with Safari may be symptomatic of other problems on the Mac. A reinstall of the OS using Archive & Install may be the next logical step to resolve the issues cropping up here.

See step 1: I've done a repair permissions on all drives already.
I understand that re-installing OS will solve all this most likely, but since that's a 2-3 day process (with re-installing approx 100 apps, authorizations etc.) I rather find other means to fix this first.

10.5.3 Update stuck at "Configuring Installation..."

I downloaded the update and then restarted my iMac only to find the installation progress bar to be stuck at a certain point. After 10 hours of leaving it at that, I forced shut down my iMac. Any ideas as to why the update won't work? Maybe I messed up with the OS files... but I doubt it.
-I recently re-installed Leopard... if that's a problem.

For those of you who may be found in the same predicament, you can resolve this by going into the HD > Library > Updates and move all the files and folders to your desktop. In each of the folders there is a folder called Packages, launch the file with the .pkg suffix. This is the actual installer. Do this until you find the culprit installer that is causing problems (you'll recognize it because it will get stuck at 'Configuring Installation'). After you have successfully applied all the good updates. Throw everything away (including the plist file) and restart. Launch Software Update and it should redownload the package that was damaged and all other updates.

i got the automatic update notice for the latest OS 10.5.? i don't remember
went to download the new software. now its been stuck on "configuring installation" for about the last 15 minutes

Give it at least an hour. BTW, make a bootable backup/clone of your 10.5.3 installation before proceeding? If not, tsk, tsk. See these for details:

If you cancel the installation operation, you have a good chance of mucking the OS up. Subsequent recovery is tenuous. If you're lucky, you might still have a bootable installation. If that's the case, then download and manually install the 10.5.4 COMBO update.

I have a mac book from 2010, can i upgrade to safari 6?

I am having trouble upgrading to safari 6. When I go to app store to upgrade i am confused, because I feel I need to add some other program before I can upgrade. Do I need to download Mountain Lion to get to Safari 6?

You can download 10.7 (Lion) or 10.8 (Mountain Lion) from theApp store. A 2010 Macbook with at least 2gB RAM meets the requirements. Either will cost $20.
With that upgrade you will also automatically get a Safari update.

Actually you need to upgrade to 10.7.2 or better (which involves upgrading to 10.6 first. Which Mac do you have (Post it's specifications please)

All Updates Stuck on Configure Installation

Hi, I am having a problem with my updates on my mac mini. I am running 10.5.2. The problem I seem to be having is that when I try to install my updates, for example the new Safari and security update. It will download and tell me I have to restart my computer. I do that then it just freezes on configure installation. It has done it to me three times and this last time I let it sit for 7 hours while I was at work. I then have to hold my power button down to restart the mac and after that it works fine but without the updates. I really hope someone can help me and thank you in advance for anyone with any suggestions.

Hi and welcome to Discussions,
first thing to try is to insert the OSX Leopard DVD and restart while holding down the 'C'-key.
Then Choose Your Language and you are greeted with the OSX Installation Screen (no worry).
Fom the Top Menu - choose 'Utilities' and then 'Disk Utility'.
Let Disk Utility run its Repair routines (repair permissions; repair volume).
Repeat these repairs until there are no more errors reported.

Can't upgrade to Safari 3.2

I upgraded to OS X from 10.3.9 to 10.5.5 today. After I was finished upgrading, I downloaded Safari 3.2 from the Apple website. However, the installer will not install--it tells me that my target volume (the internal drive on my machine) does not have all of the required security upgrades installed.
Software update does bring up any security patches waiting for installation, and all other upgrades were completed today (Java, Quicktime, etc.)
How can I:
- Get Safari 3.2 installed; or
- Find out if there are indeed any security patches that need to be installed?

There are tons of us helpers here who have no problems.
And people don't usually come to a support group to state emphatically:

97% of the time, problems crop up because of old junk 3rd party internet crapola that
folks loaded on years ago, and have forgotten.

Software updates stuck at "Configuration Installation"...NEED HELP?

I have a new Mac Book and I performed software updates when I first bought it and everything downloaded and installed seemlessly. Just recently when I tried downloading and installing OS 10.5.5, the comp got stuck when it was shutting down and trying to instill the updates. I just downloaded OS 10.5.6 and it has done the same thing. It said that updates have been downloaded, do you want to restart. I click continue, it begins to shut down and start the install of the updates and it stalls and doesn't do anything. I need help!!

Same problem here and we tried the Apple link suggested but it is still not working....
Purchased a new Aluminum Macbook for my son at Xmas and he has not been able to download anything. We have run permissions repair, cleared Library etc multiple time and still get error messages when attempting installation. Poor kid is very frustrated as am I. Any further help would be much appreciated!

Software Update Installer stuck on "Configuring Installation"

Hi, I just received my Mac Pro yesterday and, of course, it needed some updates. After I downloaded some software updates and the large Combined Update for Leopard, I chose to restart the computer to let them install. As of about 45 minutes ago, the progress bar hasn't moved (approximately at a 2% position). It isn't slowly moving; rather, it's not moving at all. The window simply says "Installing 7 items" and "Configuring Installation".
I have a feeling that this is caused by the Combined Update. Is this normal, or do I have a corrupt update?

i have the same problem.
go to and delete everything in my HD/Library/Updates.
then run update again and choose only the leopard update.
best to use a cable than wireless, this is a huge file.

It is very likely you can go to Mavericks but you may as well go straight to Yosemite.   However, unless the matter is urgent I would wait a couple of months until it gets to Yosemite 10.10.2.
You realise of course that your current OS is the last one that can work with Rosetta based programs so if you have bought Office or some Language courses etc you may have to buy new versions.   This table will help you decide which apps you may lose by upgrading.

Safari stuck configuring installation for 3.2

Hi gang,
I am trying to use Software Update on my MacBook Pro to update Safari to 3.2. All of the windows closed with the exception of the install window (as usual), but the progress bar is stuck at "Configuring Installation".
Any ideas?

Try downloading the standalone updater and installing from there. I'd recommend downloading it, then booting into Safe mode (hold the shift key at bootup) and use Disk Utility to run a permissions repair (can take a while). Then install from the downloaded updater and restart the computer after that completes, allowing it to boot normally.

Upgraded to safari 4.0.3 and now can't open application

I ran normal software upgrade and upgraded to Safari 4.0.3.
Now I can't open safari from the Dock or from the Applications folder - I get a "the application Safari Quit unexpectedly" message.
I have tried to 'reopen' but that makes no difference.
I have restarted machine several times.
I have run the disk utility to repair permssions and this makes no difference.

I upgrades my iPAD 3 to iOS6 and now I can't open my Safari RSS bookmarks. Any ideas to help?

I've installed 3 different RSS readers and none of them "grab" the default flag for RSS feeds.
I've also uninstalled the Podcasts.app, then re-installed a couple of the readers and Safari still has no idea what to do with them.
What's most annoying is that Safari declares it doesn't know what to do with a feed and offers to load the iTunes Store so I can pick an RSS Reader to install, and then the iTunes app declares it can't connect to the store (even when I'm already on the store or downloading an application at the time).
And yeah, I've tried the fixes for the cannot connect errors (Date/Time flip, reinstall bought app, setting DNS to Google even though it was already fine, and clearing Safari's cache just in case).
This is absolutely pathetic.

My Snow Leopard 10.6.3 has Safari 4.0.4 but this cannot be used for the new features of iTune. I tried upgrading to Safari 5.1.7 but it needs Snow Leopard 10.6.8. Where can I get a version of Safari 5.1 that is compatible with Snow Leopard 10.6.3?

Then restart your Mac.
