Can't use ACR negative clarity

After reinstalling photoshop CS3 and downloading and installing ACR 4.3.1 I can no longer use the clarity slider for negative clarity in Camera Raw.  In other words, zero is on the far left rather than in the middle as it used to be.  Also, when I open previously processed (that is, before reinstalling Photoshop)  Raw files the settings I used have not been preserved, ACR shows only the defaults.  Does anybody know how to fix this?  I'm running Windows 7, camera is Olympus E-510. I'm not sure what version of ACR I was using previously.  Thanks for your help,

If I remember correctly the last ACR for CS3 was 4.6.  Try updating to last version for CS3..

  • Can I use ACR tools in an image already opened in PS5?

If I have opened a RAW image in PS5.5 and it has several layers already modifying the file, can I convert the bottom layer to a smart object and then use ACR tools like de-fringing, etc.? I notice flaws in the image that would be corrected that way, and I don't want to start from scratch. I am able to make the layer a smart object. I don't know how to invoke the ACR tools.
This image arrived from Lightroom with "no Lightroom effects" chosen at transfer, if that makes any difference.
    Thanks in advance, folks.

If you open a RAW file through lightroom there may be a way have Photoshop open it as a smart Object I do no know I do not use Lightroom.  If you open the Raw file through the Bridge or Photoshop in ACR which is a Photoshop plug-in ACR can open it as a Smart Object layer in Photoshop where the embedded object is a copy of the RAW file and Adobe RAW conversion engine settings.   Embedded object can be reopened. If the embeded is a RAW File it will open in ACR.  If the embedded object is a Tiff or Jpeg file it can be openned in ACR or Phptoshop. If the embedded object is a raster layer or a grout pf layers that have been converted into a smart object these smart object can be opened in Photoshop.  When a Smart Obkect is reopen in ACR or Photoshop it opens as a temporay work document the when changes are made and committen by ACR or Photoshop  the original reopened smart object will be upstare with the changes made to the work document .
If you open the RAW file through Lightroom or ACR into Phoroshop as a RGB image a background layer its a raster layer converted to a smart opject it would not open in ACR. However there is a Photoshop Script you can Download from Russell Brows web site that you could  run with the Background Layer the active Photoshop target. The Script would save the Active layer as a Tiff file and then Place the tiff file into the current document as a smart object layer where the active layer is.  This Placed Smart Object layer contains a copy of a tiff file that was saved using the active layer after the place operation the Tiff file and the old active(ie background image) layer are deleted.  If your ACR preferences are set to open Tiff files doubling click on the smart object icon in that layer in the layers palette will open the Tiff in ACR.

  • What is the most advanced version of ACR that can be used with Photoshop CS5?

What is the most advanced version of ACR that can be used with Photoshop CS5?
Will it open RAW files from a Canon 5D Mark III ?

CS5 can use up to ACR 6.7.1.  CS6 started with ACR 7.0.
The 5D Mark III was first supported with ACR 6.7.
ACR 6.7.1 can be downloaded from the Camera Raw Mac and Win links on the Adobe Download page:

  • Where can I find lens correction profiles for EF 17-35 f/2.8L lens using ACR 6.2?

Using Photoshop CS5 Extended on iMac 10.6.4.
I'm  working with wedding photos shot by a friend but I cannot find lens  correction profiles for Canon EOS 20D or the EF 17-35 f/2.8L lens. When I  search online it simply says "No online profiles found". Is there a  download for older lens profiles? I checked & I'm using ACR 6.2. I don't have the camera so there's no  way to take test photos to create my own profile. But, shouldn't there  be a profile available; the camera isn't that old?

Go to DXO Pro and download the 30 day trial. It works very well for lens/body correction, and unlike Adobe, DXO maintains data on the older cameras and lenses. Updates will always have those available. Adobe is a latecomer to this part of the correction process, so as Ian said, no call, no supplier? Out of luck.
    http://www.dxo.com/intl/photo
It's fair to note that DXO does not necessarily have a complete line of everything, like my Tamron 28 to 75 isn't available as a module. They do pay attention to demands, or lack therof,  that are not mainstream as well. But their offerings are excellent, and the tests, professional.

I’m pretty sure Adobe NEVER intended for someone to copy an XMP file from one photo to another outside of LR as a way to replicate settings.   You can make a preset from a photo, as discussed, or if you don’t want to do that, copy-paste the settings from a representative photo that you initially select to one or more new photos.  You could have a special LR folder that holds standard photos to copy/paste from.  Of course creating a Develop preset from the representative photo is the “normal” way to handle such situations, but maybe you have hundreds of different situations to copy settings from and don’t want to create presets for each one, but I’d argue that you could create a complex folder hierarchy for your presets and still have them findable without that much problem.
As far as the mystery about why some photos show Reset and some show From Metadata, is the Process Version (down in Camera Calibration) of the photo before reading the settings the same between the two situations?  And in general, are these virgin photos newly imported into LR or have some been modified in LR, already?  Does an XMP file already exist for any of these, where that XMP is being overwritten by your external-to-LR copying?  Or do you have auto-write-XMP enabled and your hand-copied XMP is getting overwritten by LR, automatically, before you have a chance to read in anything?

You were probably using the Release Candidate version of camera raw 8.7, which one gets from Adobe Labs.

    Hi,
Just switched from CS6 to PS CC. I am very comfortable using ACR in previous versions. I liked to use the preview checkbox located in the upper right-hand corner to see before and afters. That checkbox is no longer in my version of PS CC. I see that they have side-by-side, top and bottom and right and left before and after options in the lower right-hand corner in this version. Is there anyway to get that legacy preview checkbox back so that I can use it?

  • I HAVE MANY OLD SLIDES FROM MY FAMILY,WHAT IS A GOOD 35MM SLIDE  SCANNER  THAT CAN BE USE WITH MY MACBOOK PRO?

    Hi,
Can anyone recommend a scanner or other device for old family slides that must converted in a digital format  and saved in a DVD and external hard drive?
    Thanks
    Wandafromqc

Don't even think about scanning thousands of slides yourself. If you have 5000 family slides, it's overwhelmingly likely that just 500 of them will give a highly effective representation of the whole collection, and will include not only all of the best ones but many of the second-best ones too. Scanning them all, or even half of them, will consume your entire summer and would probably give you and your sibs a lot more pictures than any of you really wants to keep.
It used to be true that scanning slides halfway decently required an expensive dedicated film scanner -- consumer flatbed scanners just weren't up to the task. That's no longer true. I have an under-$200 Epson Perfection V500 Photo flatbed scanner that outperforms the $2000+ Nikon film scanner I've had for 9 years in slide and negative scanning, and the software that came with it enables me to scan several (6 if I remember right) slides at once and automatically saves them as separate image files. That makes it much faster to use than the film scanner, and of course I can also use it for scanning flat reflective material, such as the more than 1000 old photographic prints and post cards I've digitized for my local historical society. The film scanner couldn't have done any of that.

      password-lock-retry-count 5
    I also entered the followings:
    conf t
      password-policy
      no password-locked-enabled
      no no-previous-password
my initial "admin" account has the password of "Checkpoint1234".  It locked me out after 5 attempts from the webUI.  Fine, I CLI into the box and reset
the password, when I tried to reset the password for "admin" to "Checkpoint1234", it tells me that I can NOT use a previous password.
How do I disable this option altogether?  In other words, I want to use previous password.
By the way, in the webUI password-policy, you have to set the "Password History" between 1 and 10.  WTF!!!
    Thanks in advance.

Admin account for the web UI seems to be locked out. So it needs to be reset from CLI.
An incorrect password for your administrator user ID entered enough times to disable the administrator password. The minimum and default number is five. The Cisco ISE user interface “locks you out” of the system and suspends the credentials for that administrator ID until you have an opportunity to reset the password that is associated with that administrator ID. It does not affect the CLI password for the specified administrator ID
Step 1    Access the direct-console CLI and enter the following command:
    admin# application reset-passwd ise
Step 2    Specify a new password that is different from the previous two passwords that were used for this administrator ID:
    Enter new password:
    Confirm new password:
    Password reset successfully
If you only want to use the previous password, you should change the password policy first. After you have successfully reset the administrator password, the credentials become immediately active in the Cisco ISE and you can log in with the new password without having to reboot your system.
Review the section "Password Negated Due to Administrator Lockout" at the folowing location:

  • When to use ACR vs. PS?

I really like some of the tools in ACR for changing image color. I'm confused as to when I should use tools in ACR vs. Photoshop for non raw format files. It seems that it is really easy to change temperature and make other adjustments to non raw files in ACR.
    1. Is there a reason to not change Tiff, Jpeg, or PSD images in ACR and just do it in PS?
    2. Just curious what your thoughts are on using ACR and PS to correct images? Do you just use ACR if you are starting with a raw format file OR do you always use ACR to make some changes and then move on to PS for other changes?
    Thanks.

That was true as of Photoshop 11.x (CS4) and earlier versions, but apparently you can open and process a PSD file in ACR hosted by Photoshop 12.x (CS5).  You just cannot open the PSD in ACR directly from Bridge or the Finder.

  • Can't Use Video with other Mac users who use AIM

I know that ichat is compatible for video chats with other pc users who use aim, but does it work with other mac users who use aim?
Everytime I try to chat with my friend, I get an error message when trying to start of a video chat.
BTW, I use a iMac G5 with an isight camera.

    Hi Staci,
    For a Bit of Clarity.
AOL have their Instant Message App. referred to as AIM.
Apple decided and did a deal with AOL that iChat could join their service Buddy Lists.
On these Discussions we tend to refer iChat as Logging into AIM, as they are the servers that the Buddy Lists are held on.
As iChat can also use Bonjour and Jabber, both of which have their own Buddy list window on your Mac. The Jabber side needs you to have a Jabber screen name - so again people differentiate between this and the AIM side.
I would guess you friend is trying to make it clear that she is using the AIM side of iChat as opposed to the Jabber side.
As has been said already, the Application side of things also tend to get referred to generically as "AIM" as well.
The Mac version has stopped and 4.7 and will only Text chat.
The PC side needs 5.9 to clearly Video or Audio chat with a Mac using iChat. (AIM 6.0 is not stable enough to A/V chat to iChat).

How can i use Nikon D 7100 and Panasonic Lumix DMC-LF1 with Photoshop CS 5 Camera Raw?

The one needs 7.4 (or better), the other 8.1, so Photoshop CS5 with ACR6 is not up to the task.
The free DNG Converter could be used to convert the RAW images to DNG which your version of ACR should be able to process.

  • Can't open ACR with PSE8/windows

I just downloaded the "full" trial version of PSE8 to my netbook. When I follow the "help" instructions to open an .nef file it opens in the regular editing window (and if I try to do something with it it freaks out) and does not open ACR.
    Two questions:
I read in another thread that maybe ACR won't open in short screens but also that the issue had been resolved (?).
I'm not very windows savvy (I'm very happy with PSE8 on my mac) but I think that ACR might not have downloaded with PSE8 as I can't seem to find it in programs or trailing down under my computer>program files?adobe. All that's there are Elements Organizer (a folder but not with ACR) and PSE.
If the first is true I'm going to be really unhappy but wonder if the same holds true if I change the netbook to a mac?
If the second is really the issue can I download ACR on its own?
    Thanks very much.

That's what I figured, Barbara. But, I've been spending all day trying to figure it out and, although I won't have the ACR tools (which I love), it does allow the full use of PSE8 on the raw file and the ability to save it in another format. So, I think it'll probably work. I won't be editing all of my photographs (I'm getting all of this stuff for a trip and need to bring home good files for a book we're doing) - only a few that I might want to post while I'm away. I even "practiced" by putting the images on a flash drive and transfering them to my mac. The image that I edited and saved back as raw (one of the options) didn't work at all. The good news is that, no matter what format it's saved in, the original is truly untouched (an advantage over the ACR way, I think).
    Thanks for responding.
