Can't use AirDrop between my iOS devices and my MacBook Pro

Help! I can't get Airdrop to work between my MacBook Pro and my iOS devices. I believe all settings are configured correctly but something's off somewhere.
MBP - late December 2011, now running 10.10. Wifi and bluetooth are enabled. Security privacy settings allow Finder inbound connections.
iPhone 5S and iPad Air - both at 8.1. Wifi and bluetooth enabled, AirDrop settings on both are 'contacts only.'
I'm logged in to all three devices with my common iCloud account.
I go to share a photo from my iPhone and only my iPad appears as a potential recipient. Same from sharing from my iPad - only my iPhone appears. On my Mac's Finder AirDrop, nothing appears within, even when both my iOS devices are on.
I've been looking forward to the idea of Mac-to-iOS sharing, and something somewhere is keeping this from happening.
What should I check for next?

For AirDrop between IOS & OS X, you'll need a MBP from 2012 or later.
Your 2011 Mac can only do AirDrop between Macs that support AirDrop.
In order to transfer files between a Mac and and an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch, your iOS device needs iOS 7 or later installed and your Mac needs to be a 2012 or later model.

  • HT5887 Why can't I Airdrop between my iPad Mini and my MacBook Pro Retina?

I recently bought a 13 inch MacBook Pro Retina. Turned on airdrop to link with my iPad Mini (1st version) running iOS 7.0.4. They do not recognize each other. Why does NOT all Apple devices work seamlessly with one another???!!! I have an iPhone 4 that cannot Airdrop with my iPad Mini, and now I have a MacBook Pro Retina that does not Airdrop with any of my Apple devices! That is SO frustrating! Has anyone else experienced this INCOMPATIBILITY between Apple devices?

i have the same issue with my macbook air and now my ipad 4th gen and my iphone 5. nothing connects to nothing. dont see this problem with android....wondering if im doing something wrong

I've seen the opposite issue.  My wife recieved an email with jpg attachments.  She couldn't see or print them on her iPhone 4S but they showed up fine in iCloud or in the mail app.  I had her forward the email to herself and then they showed up.  I assume there is an issue with how Apple is processing the attachments and resending causes them to get reformatted in a way that makes them easier to handle.
So yeah.  Seems like some bugs.  Hope Apple fixes them soon.

There aren’t any. AirDrop between the platforms requires that the Mac support Bluetooth 4.0, which wasn’t introduced to them until the 2012 models.

  • I purchased a song from iTunes radio through Apple TV.  The song does not show up on my iOS devices or my MacBook Pro?

I tried out the new iTunes Radio last night through my Apple TV.  Even purchased a song.  Can't find the song through any of my iOS devices or my MacBook Pro music library.  What am I missing?  It said that the song would be on my devices.  Help?

    Hi Dreanmachine1,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
When you purchase a song on your Apple TV, it is available on all of your devices. There are a few reasons why you may not see the song on your iOS devices or your MacBook Pro. They may not be set up to download purchases automatically, or you may not have been signed into the iTunes Store.
I'd suggest trying to download the purchases on your other devices using the steps in this article:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519
You may also want to check your automatic download settings, so you can receive future songs automatically. See this article for help:

    All the best,

  • How can i use my phone number for imessage on my macbook pro?

I have been trying to sync my iMessages between my iPhone 4s and my macbook pro but it will only use my email. I have been told to change the setting in the message menu but I can't seem to find that! Help me please!!!
    Thank you!

TRy to check on your imessage setting on your iphone. It should be setting>messages> imessage. If you can see your phone number then your mac will be able to see your message. If not toggle the message on and off. Once activated your mac will ask you if you would like to use your number for imessage, click agree(0r yes) then you will also receive a message on your iphone that your mac started using your phone number for imessage

  • HT5639 Can I use Boot Camp to install Linux on my MacBook Pro?

Can I use Boot Camp to install Linux on my MacBook Pro?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
Boot Camp wasn't designed to install Linux. Apart from that, the Boot Camp version included in OS X Mountain Lion will ask you to insert a Windows 7 or Windows 8 DVD in order to run Boot Camp, as far as I know.
Apple doesn't support Linux on Macs, but it works properly on Macs. There are a lot of how-to's in the Internet about the steps to install Linux and the different possibilities you have. Also, what distribution do you want to install on the computer? You should also consider the option to install Linux on a virtual machine

  • Can I use the "Find My iPad" app in my MacBook Pro when the iPad has a different Apple ID?

Can I use the "Find My iPad" app in my MacBook Pro when the iPan has a different Apple ID & password than the MacBook Pro?

On your Macbook you access Find My iPad via a Web Browser at http://icloud.com
This will require you to sign on using the Apple ID and password used for the iPad iCloud.

  • I want to migrate from using 2 computers (a mac mini and a macbook pro) to only the macbook

I currently use both a MacMini at home and a MacBook Pro while I'm on the road.
My email is sync'd via Google Mail, but I have photo's and documents (for my projects) that are not sync'd between the two computers.
I use Time Machine with difference external drives to backup each computer.
I would like to migrate to using only the MacBook but I need to make sure that both machines are sync'd and my photo's and documents are the same on both.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
The Mac Mini is running OSX 10.7.5 and the Mac Book is runing OSX 10.8.3
    Thanks in advance

You could try using sync/backup software that could do that automatically. You have several from which to choose that might work best:
    Suggested Backup Software
      1. Carbon Copy Cloner
      2. Data Backup
      3. Deja Vu
      4. SuperDuper!
      5. Synk Pro
      6. Tri-Backup
      7. Sync Folders Pro 2.9.3
      8. Folder Sync v1.4.4
      9. SyncTwoFolders 1.8.4
Others may be found at VersionTracker or MacUpdate.

  • How do you sync contacts between an iPhone 5 and a MacBook Pro without iCloud?

How do you sync contacts between an iPhone 5 and a MacBook Pro, using OS X 10.9.2 and iTunes 11.1.5 without using iCloud?

I do NOT trust iCloud because it duplicated by contact book 4 to 5 times and blew up my records.
Lately I realized that my Contact Book contacts are not updated and having lesser records, and did a check. There are a lot of missing contacts, despite Synching.
I sync iPhone 5s (and iPhone 5) to Mac Contacts and I do NOT use CLOUD. Now it seems that it forces me to use CLOUD.
I don't want to use CLOUD because of the BAD experience.
I just realized that I cannot sync my iPhone 5s (&5) Contacts with Mac Contacts anymore, there is no even a button for Contacts on iTunes.
This is RIDICULOUS... Screw around someone, this company is doomed.

  • Why can't you use airdrop between all apple devices?!just got the iPad air, and was hoping to have the ability to airdrop images from the mac to the iPad....and you can't do that?! c'mon apple!!Whats going on?!

Is there any way to use Airdrop between Imac and Ipad air?
I cant quite believe thatthe two are not interlinked!!? or am i missing something? i can pick up iphone on the ipad, ipad on the iphone but pick neither up on the imac or the imac on the ipad or iphone. Can anyone shed any light on this?

AirDop on the Mac is a different tech than AirDrop on the iPhone and iPad.  At this time, there is no interaction between thew different AirDrops.
It is a little confusing that they are called the same, but are in fact different.
Why Apple did this, I can't say.  Maybe in the future it will be possible.

  • Can you use Airdrop between two Macs witch the same Apple ID?

    Hi everyone,
you can see my question above. I have a MacBook Pro and an iMac but airdrop doesn`t seem two work between those two. They both use Mountain Lion. Its an iMac late 2012 and the MacBook Pro Retina mid 2012. This means that from a technical standpoint this would have to work but it doesn`t, so I figuered that maybe it is because of the fact that I use the same Apple ID with both of them. Can anyone confirm this or am I doing something wrong?
    Thank you in advance!!

It is not necessary that the computers connect through a Wi-Fi router or access point.
The following steps are only to exclude a possible third party device interference.
Turn off Wi-Fi router and or Access Point.
Check that iMac and MBP have their Wi-Fi turned on.
Select Finder, Go, AirDrop, wait a few seconds.
Can you see the other computer inside the AirDrop window?
