Can't use cc -D_KERNEL -xarch=v9 -xcode=abs32

Hi,
This is Chi, I'm trying to generate a kernel module for Solaris7 64-bit kernel. However, I'm get the following error messages when I use "cc -D_KERNEL -xarch=v9 -xcode=abs32":
command line: fatal: cannot open /opt-y-xcode=abs32: No such file or directory
Please give me some advices. Thanks.
Chi Tse

Thank you a lot dear sir JJMack. But when I'm here: Intel® Download Center I have to choose what to download... Is it: Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator Driver, Windows 7* 64, Windows Vista* 64, (zip) that I must download? It is the GPU driver, isn't it? Because I don't see ''GPU'' anywhere...
I'm deeply sorry to be so noob, but on the top of that I'm french, so it's incredibly difficult for me, trying to understand something I don't even understand in french... (GPU, driver, etc.).
I hope you won't leave me, until the resolution of my problem

Yes. I'm running v4.0.2. According to v4.2 release notes,
You can install Xcode 4.2 for Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard only if you have purchased an earlier release of Xcode.

  • Which combination of xarch/KPIC/xcode flags for 64-bit ?

    Hi,
I am using CC 5.3 (Forte6 U2) and man CC says to look at READMEs/64bit_Compilers
when building 64-bit binaries. There, one can read :
    * When building shared dynamic libraries with -xarch=v9,v9a, or
v9b in a 64-bit Solaris environment, the -Kpic or -KPIC
option MUST be specified. See also the new
    -xcode=abs32|abs44|abs64|pic13|pic32 option for specifying
    code address sizes.
But in man CC, there is also :
-KPIC (SPARC platform) Same as -xcode=pic32.
and in the -xcode section :
The default is -xcode=abs64 for SPARC and
    UltraSPARC V9 processors (with
    -xarch={v9|v9a|v9b}).
So if I use -xarch=v9 -KPIC, will I get abs64 or pic32 ? Is there a way to know which
values has been used ? Also, what are the consequences of using pic32 rather than
abs64, particulary in terms of maximum allocable block size ?
    Thanks for any hints,

It's confusing, I'll grant you that. To answer your question:
So, if I use -xarch=v9 -KPIC, will I get abs64 or pic32?A: You will get pic32. Why? The default for -xarch=v9 is -xcode=abs64. The abs code model uses absolute positionability. In other words, the addressing in the executable is absolute (static). When you select either -Kpic (pic13) or -KPIC (pic32) you are telling the compiler to generate position independent code.
What the documentation is trying to say (perhaps a bit obtusely) is that the default compilation model, if you select -xarch=v9, is absolute, 64-bit, static addressing.
By selecting either -Kpic or -KPIC you are saying, "Use the V9 instruction set but make the code position independent". I think the -xcode=[pic13|pic32] options are exact duplications of the -Kpic and -KPIC options. The -xcode=[abs32|abs44|abs64] appear to be a way to exercise finer control over the static code generation model.
There is a good discussion of this topic at this url if you are interested in the finer points :

  • How can I use OpenGl for iPhone games??

Hi! As you know I really want to be an iOS developer. I know how Xcode works. But I don't know for the graphics and animation. I've heard that OpenGl can be used in games. But how? I mean like connecting the animations in OpenGl to the program written in XCode. I don't understand that part yet. So please can you guys explain me about that. I thank you all.

    Hi Eric,
it would help me frame answers if you give the background information:
    - do you know any 3D computer graphics theory? E.g. viewing transformations.
    - do you know any openGL already?
    - do you already know objectiveC and ios programming?
    To answer your questions:
    - the OpenGL ES libraries are already included as part of the iOS SDK, so if you have that you are set.
    - I am using an Air myself, works fine for developing for iOS, including code using OpenGL ES.
    - OpenGL ES is based on OpenGL 3.0, so is very similar. Almost the same.
    - read the post I linked to:
    http://db-in.com/blog/2011/01/all-about-opengl-es-2-x-part-13/
He explains how to hook things up quite well. However, you do already need to understand how to develop for iOS.
As I mentioned above, it helps to know 3D Graphics principles. If you do not know that then it is difficult to animate using openGL (or any other SDK). There are third party tools available (e.g. Corona, Unity, project Anarchy) that can make life easier, but at some point you simply have to learn 3D graphics. Trying to do animation without understanding graphics is like trying to write native apps without understanding programming. You can cheat to do basic stuff, but nothing useful or deep.
This is not easy stuff, you will have to put some work into it. Start with the above link as an intro, and also the apple docs pointed to by teacup.
    Good luck!

  • Can I use another Mac's system restore disc on my Mac?

    Q. Can I use the grey coloured System Restore discs that shipped with Mac A to install OS X onto Mac B?
    A. In most cases, due to technical and licensing reasons, the answer is no. The answer is definitely no if any of the following apply:
Any part of the software on the system restore disc is currently installed or in use on Mac A, or on any other computer1
The OS on the disc is any version of Leopard (10.5.x), or is any version of Tiger later than 10.4.42
Either of the two Macs has an Intel processor3
The system restore discs from Mac A contain an older version of Mac OS X than the version of Mac OS X that was on the install discs that would have shipped with Mac B4
However, an installation attempt may be successful, and compliant with all OS X licensing terms, if all of the following conditions are met:
No part of the software on the system restore disc is currently installed or in use on Mac A, or on any other computer1
The OS on the disc is Tiger 10.4.3 or earlier, or is an earlier version of OS X (10.3.x, 10.2.x, etc)2
Both Mac A and Mac B have PowerPC processors (G3, G4, or G5)3
The system restore discs from Mac A contain a newer version of Mac OS X than the version of Mac OS X that was on the install discs that would have shipped with Mac B4
All terms of the Mac OS X Software License Agreement are followed, particularly sections 2 and 3 regarding permitted usage and transfer.
Even if all the above conditions are met, software restore discs contain computer-specific releases of Mac OS X, and may not install or work properly on a Mac that has a hardware configuration that is significantly different than the original.
    Notes
The license agreement for single user copies of all versions of OS X, including all versions that ship on system restore discs, do not permit any part of the software to be installed or used on more than one computer at the same time.
The provision restricting the use of grey coloured system restore discs to the same Mac with which they shipped was introduced with the 10.4.4 Software License Agreement, and has been carried through to the 10.5 Leopard Software License Agreement. This restriction was not present in the Software License Agreement for earlier versions of Tiger, nor for earlier versions of Mac OS X.
All Macs with Intel processors shipped with a Mac OS X EULA restricting usage of the software restore discs to that Mac only. The license that shipped with G3, G4, or G5 Macs that shipped with 10.4.3 or earlier permit the transfer of OS X to another Mac, provided that all terms of the license agreement are followed. Furthermore, the architecture of PowerPC and Intel systems are incompatible enough that neither platform's system restore discs will install on the other.
Mac OS X system software will not properly run on, and may not even install on, any Mac that is newer than it, because the software lacks the hardware drivers to run properly on the newer hardware. Details are in this document: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2186

Gray Install Discs are Machine specific, so even if both were Intel iMacs they'd have to be the same Models.
Leopard 10.5.x is another possible option besides Tiger/10.4.x.
    Tiger Requirements...
To use Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger, your Macintosh needs:
    * A PowerPC G3, G4, or G5 processor
    * Built-in FireWire
    * At least 256 MB of RAM (I recommend 1GB minimum)
    * DVD drive (DVD-ROM), Combo (CD-RW/DVD-ROM) or SuperDrive (DVD-R) for installation
    * At least 3 GB of free disk space; 4 GB if you install the XCode 2 Developer Tools (I recommend 20GB minimum)

  • Can I use a 21" iMac as an external monitor?

I'm considering getting an iMac or Mac Mini so I can run Xcode.
My budget is low, so I'm considering just getting a Mini and using it with an old VGA/DVI monitor.
However, as the iMac includes a monitor, mouse, and keyboard, it's actually the same price as a Mini with a mouse, keyboard, and monitor.
Plus, the iMacs are more powerful.
I don't intend to do much on it, just Xcode and maybe some gaming. Gaming is not the deciding factor here.
I've been searching for an answer for hours, and all I found were outdated threads.
    My question is:
Are 8GB of RAM really necessary for Xcode, and is the quad-core CPU of the iMac needed?
I also read that an iMac can be used as an external display, but only the 27" models.
    I am looking at a 21" 2013 model.
I currently use a Windows gaming desktop, and have lots of extra monitors lying around.
Multi-display support is a must for me, and the iMac screen is way better than anything else I have.
Is it possible to use a 21" iMac as an external display for a Windows machine using a DVI/DisplayPort adapter?
I've read in different forums that "it has to be Thunderbolt". "It has to be a 27" not a 21". "It has to be 2010 or older".
    Basically:
Can I use an iMac as an external display for my Windows desktop, and can it be the 21" model?
I'm not getting a Mac very soon, so please take your time.
    -Thanks a lot,
    Nick
BTW: This is my first post, so it's probably horrible.

Hello Nick, A a warm welcome.. great 1st post too!
I'm afraid using the iMac for a PC Monitor is out, unless it might be a newer PC that has a thunderbolt prt & can output Video through TB port. 2009/2010 iMacs can use MDP. But 21.5" iMacs work as well as the 27" ones for either method.
Not sure DVI or even DisplayPort converters work though.
Here's how it's supposed to work...

Are 8GB of RAM really necessary for Xcode, and is the quad-core CPU of the iMac needed?
Well, problem is twofold, 4 GB is barely enough for the OS & one App, & you can't really upgrade the RAM yourself later.
I'd go for the Quad core, computers always get slower over time!
Might be some 209/2010 options here...

  • How can I use AppleScript Studio to display an image

How can I use AppleScript Studio to display an image in a dialog?

Add an image well to your window in Interface Builder.
You can also add an image file to the Resources group of your Xcode project and then set the image to be displayed inside the image well directly in Interface Builder. No AppleScript code is needed if the image is contained within your app bundle and can be set ahead of time like this.
If the image is contained in your app's bundle but you need to set or change the image at run time then you can use a line of AppleScript to load it into the image well using just it's filename:
set image of image view "yourImageView" of window "yourWindow" to load image "YourImageFile.jpg"
If you need to load an image from an arbitrary location outside your app's bundle then use a path to the image file...
set image of image view "yourImageView" of window "yourWindow" to load image "/path/to/YourImageFile.jpg"

  • Can't use iPad for testing app

When I tried to run an app under development on my iPad 1, I get a message "a valid provisioning profile for this exectable was not found."
Under General > Profiles > the Develop App Games and Developer Provisioning are both green ticked as Verified.
So I can't use my iPad for testing the app, which was no problem when I was running OS Lion with XCode 4.2.
I'm now using Xcode 4.6 on Mountain Lion 10.8.2.
What could be the problem? Thank you.

  • HT1751 I need to uninstall and reinstall iTunes (it won't let me update). So, how do I copy or back up my iTunes library of over 1,500 songs? Can I use a Flash Drive to do so?

I need to uninstall and reinstall iTunes (it won't let me update). I have IE 8 on Windows XP, and iTunes 10 something. In my Program files list I see iTunes and iTunes (2) and even iPod and iPod (2) where a tech had to back up and do this for me before. I'm just trying to fix it all. I keep getting the "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable. Click OK to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package 'iTunes.msi' in the box below." I can even run a search and find the folder, but it gives me the same error message. I was planning on using the Microsoft Fix-It tool  to help uninstall then Reinstall iTunes. But I need to backup my library. So, how do I copy or back up my iTunes library of over 1,500 songs? Can I copy the folder to desktop or can I use a Flash Drive to backup my music? I don't want to do anything until I know for sure how I can backup my songs, and then reinstall them into iTunes. Thanks for any help.

Ok, thanks that helps. I don't have an external hard drive though. What about backing up through 'the cloud'? I'm just wondering since my husband syncs his iPod to the PC through iTunes and he's worried that he will lose all the songs on his iPod if the library is lost from iTunes and he tries to 'sync' it up again. I'm not exactly sure how to  'copy the entire iTunes folder' either. I kinda suck at this unless I have step by step instructions, which I haven't found yet on iTunes help or other sources.
The only way I know how to back anything up is by going back to a restore point, etc. (as stated before, we don't have an external hard drive.)
    Thanks for the info.

  • How can I use 2 Apple IDs in Itunes? I have 2 IOS Devices. They each have there own AppleID. What is the proper way to sync both of them to Itunes?

How can I use 2 Apple IDs in Itunes? I have 2 IOS Devices. They each have there own AppleID. What is the proper way to sync both of them to Itunes? I wanted my teenager's AppleID to be different from mine so that she couldn't charge stuff to my AppleID, therefore I created me another one. Now when I go to Sync either device, it tells me that this IOS device can only be synced with one AppleID. Then I get a message to erase it, not going to do that, lol. If I logout as one ID and login as the other, will it still retain all synced information on the PC from the first IOS device? If I can just log in out of the AppleID, then I have no problem doing that as long as the synced apps, music, etc stays there for both. I am not trying to copy from one to the other, just want to make sure I have a backup for the UhOh times. If logging in and out on the same PC of multiple AppleIDs is acceptible then I need to be able to authorize the PC for both devices. Thanks for the help. I am new to the iOS world.

    "Method Three
Create a separate iTunes library for each device. Note:It is important that you make a new iTunes Library file. Do not justmake a copy of your existing iTunes Library file. If iTunes is open, quit it.
This one may work. I searched and searched on the website for something like this, I guess I just didn't search correctly, lol. I will give this a try later. My daughter is not be back for a few weekends, therefore I will have to try the Method 3 when she comes back for the weekend again. "
I forgot to mention that she has a PC at her house that she also syncs to. Would this cause a problem. I am already getting that pop up saying that the iPod is synced to another library (even though she is signed in with her Apple ID to iTunes) and gives the pop up to Cancel, Erase & Sync, or Transfer Purchases. My question arose because she clicked on "Erase & Sync" by mistake when she plugged the iPod to her PC the first time. When the iPod was purchased and setup, it was synced to my PC first. When she went home, she hooked it up to her PC and then she erased it by accident. I was able to restore all the missing stuff yesterday using my PC. However, even after doing that it still told me the next time I hooked it up last night that the iPod was currently synced with a different library. Hopefully, you can help me understand all this. She wants to sync her iPod and also backup her iPod at both places. Both PCs have been authorised. Thanks

  • Can I Use iTunes Store without Storing Bank Accounts, etc, in my Profile?

    Hi
Today a fraudulent charge of $89.99 appeared on my iTunes account. This suggests that a hacker has obtained my password, and hence access to all information in my iTunes account, including credit card or Paypal account information. I can deal with having to claim refunds for fraudulent iTunes purchases, but I cannot afford to risk ID Theft, or to have my back account information in the possession of hackers.
    (1) Is it possible to maintain an iTunes account that does not store bank accounts, and ideally stores no personal information other than my email address?
    (2) If I can do this, I assume I'd then have to enter that information for each purchase. Will this information be expunged once the ourchase is complete? Or would it remain on the system in some form, accessible to hackers?
    (3) If (1) is not possible, how do I cancel my iTunes account? There does not seem to be such an option on the iTunes Account Management screens.
    Thanks,
    Chris

You can remove your credit card from your account. Go into the account, click "Edit payment information" and you will see the option under credit card to click "None."
For purchasing, you can either enter the card info per transaction, or you can start using iTunes gift cards which are readily available.

  • How can I use apps downloaded by different users on the same iPad?

I have a 'work' iPad so the apps on it have been downloaded using two different accounts. Which was fine until I did an update at the weekend and suddenly I can only use the one's I downloaded. Is there anyway of 'sharing' these apps so who logs in can use all the apps?

No, I don't think there is. As far as I know the iPad is meant to be a 'one per Apple ID' device...and isn't really meant to have multiple Apple ID's  downloading apps to a singular device.
I think the simplest way around your issue is to use only one Apple ID to download everything.
