Can't use Desktop

Hey all,
I can't use my desktop. Get the information on the screen that I can drag files to the Desktop, but I can't see them.
This problem occured when I was searching a file on my TimeCapsule.

Click on the desktop and choose Get Info from the File menu. Under Ownership & Permissions, change the settings so that you have Read & Write access to that folder; you may need to change the owner to yourself to do this. If this folder's Locked box is checked, open the Script Editor in the /Applications/AppleScript/ folder and run the following:

ARD 2.2 is not supported on Leopard. At least one user (raus), though, posted here that he got ARD 2.2 to work in Leopard. It's the same work-around Apple provided for ARD 2.2 to work on Intel Macs using Tiger. From the finder, navigate to:
/System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteMangement
From the folder, delete (or move) the ARDAgent v3.X file. Install the 2.2 update for ARD on the Apple site. (This may be optional; the original poster just reinstalled the update to be safe.) You can reportedly now run Remote Desktop 2.2 in 10.5. This works for PowerPC and Intel Macs.
Note, though, that this is completely unsupported by Apple and may or may not work, or may cause issues. For proper support for Leopard, you need ARD 3.2.

Can I use Desktop.getDesktop().open(file) to open a file instead of Applet

Hi
I was assigned a task in which a file has to be downloaded from a server. Right now, the code was already there which is written using applet. That is file is downloaded to local directory then it will get opened. Why cant I code in the following way.
1. Reading the file from the server and writing it to a local directory.
2. Opening the file from that directory using Desktop.getDesktop().open(file)
Since I am a newbie to java i could not understand the difference between these two things.
can anyone please explain me so that i can proceed with the right way.

So what do you want to code differently? And WHERE do you want to run this code? There must be a reason why it is right now an applet. Are you talking about a web environment like servlets/JSPs?

Desk top repair - can't use desktop

I have been having a variety of problems with my eMac. I wasn't able to download from safari and then realized downloading was not the problem but where I was downloading to. I can't download to the desktop and can't add a new folder to the desktop. It says I don't have enough access privleges. I used disk utility to repair permissions a number of times but I still have the problem. Does anyone know how I can fix this problem and what the problem truely is?

How can i use my old iMac as a extended desktop display for my new iMac?

I recently purchased a 21.5 in iMac and wanted to use my old iMac as a extended desktop. My new iMac has thunderbolt and USB 3.0 connections while my old iMac has firewire (400 and 800), USB 2.0 and mini-DVI. Is this posible?

If your iMac has got Mini-DVI, you have a 17, 20 or 24-inch iMac that doesn't support Target Display. Late 2009 and Mid 2010 27-inch iMacs, and iMacs with Thunderbolt can be used as external displays. Read > http://support.apple.com/kb/PH11302?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
If your old iMac doesn't support Target Display mode, you can use ScreenRecycler to use your old iMac as an extended display for the new iMac. The only thing you need is that both Macs are connected to the same network

I have a desktop that operates using with Vista.
I downloaded 10.5 and sought to sync my two iphones and two ipads with the desktop in order to use ICloud. However I got warning messages that if I synced with this computer that had none of my extensive library of apps, music, podcasts, etc. would be on it, I would lose it all.
I did authorize the computer. I knew enough to do that but am terrified that I will lose everything that I have accumulated and still won't be able to use ICloud.
Isn't there a way to do this? Shift my library FROM my devices to the desktop?

This is a tedious solution, which is stupid! And some users report an inability to reauthorize a computer after an "en masse” deauthorization. I can’t believe Apple doesn’t provide a list or menu to find out which computers you’ve authorized! Obviously, APPLE knows (or else they couldn’t tell us how many computers we have authorized)--so why can’t they give us access to that information about our own computers??!!!
And for an already-authorized computer with a hard drive that’s since been replaced and upgraded from Mavericks to Yosemite, would it be recognized as a “new computer” and require authorization? Would its previous incarnation (i.e., with the old hard drive and OS) be considered a separate computer? Some users report they can’t authorize a computer after an OS upgrade because of that. Can’t believe we have to do such a bass-ackwards kludge!

You can use the Time Machine backup files of the iMac onto your MacBook without any problem because your MacBook has got a newer version than the one the iMac has got. However, you shouldn't do it in your iMac, and if you do that, you might damage OS X because your Time Machine apps will replace Lion apps.

Here are the specs for your HP TouchSmart 520-1070 Desktop Computer. As previously stated your computer Doesn't have a HDMI output, instead it has a HDMI input. This is designed to let you connect a game console, a DVD/Bluray player, etc. to use as a monitor.
If you wish to conect a second monitor to your computer, you will need to use a USB-to-video adapter such as the EVGA UV Plus+ UV39 or EVGA UV Plus+ UV19. Using an adapter like these with the touch feature of your computer may cause issues with pointer control and you may need to disable the touch feature to use "extended desktop".

Remote Desktop windows 7 ultimate can't use two monitors

i have two computers in another office that remote into two other computers here at my site, all 4 computers run windows 7 ultimate, about a week to 10 days ago the two remote computers can still connect to the computers at my site but can only use one monitor
not dual monitors as before the 10 days or so. The use all displays box is checked in the remote desktop client, i have two sonicwall firewalls with a site to site vpn connection between the offices that they use to remote
can't get the dual monitors to work, any help would be appreciated

If its a fresh installation, RDM might not work at first.
1. You need to check firewall and allow Remote Desktop. To be specific, communication to port 3389 TCP
2. Right click My Computer --> Properties --> Remote tab

Allow connections to this computer
Click users and grant the permissions for the users. By default, Administrators do have the permission. An also, the users who are members of the 'Remote Desktop Users' security group also have the permission

Using Desktop Software for Mac with an 8703e - Can it be done?

I downloaded the new BB desktop software for Mac but it doesn't seem to work with my 8703e device. And since I had to erase the PocketMac software to install the new BB software, I now have no way to synch my Mac and BB. Can anyone shed any light on this?

You might check out the FileBrowser app on iTunes. I haven't used it, but it sounds like what you're after. When you say you can't use the Sierra iG2 with your iPad, I'm assuming you mean you can't plug it into the iPad. If it's plugged into a laptop and offering a WiFi hotspot, the iPad should be good with that. I use the Apple Camera Connection Kit to carry extra movies on an SD card. It uploads only to the Photos app, so no books, etc.

Scroll all the way to the bottom of the screen in the mobile site. There is (or at least there used to be) a link to the standard site.
Really, though, the experience through the Gmail app is much better.
